The Million Pound Note
Written by mark twain, the million pound note tells about a notion that money is superior to everything and I thought that it also showed reliance need to be strengthened in this modern society. In the story, a poor but honest man accidentally received a million pounds from a pair of brothers who had made a bet that if a poor but honest man would have one million pounds what the end he would get.One hold the view that he would starve to death because he would not prove the pounds to public that money is his and the bank would not help him.On the contrary, the little brother insisted that the young man would live a good life with one million pounds. Then the young man began his ridiculous but comfortable, rich life.As a result, he safely had a good life and gained a romantic love.It sounds ridiculous in the real life, as no one would give one strange such a large number of money securely. So I think the pair of brothers believed in the young man and the young man kept his promise at the end.Nowadays, the confidence and trust between person and person are feeble. We had a survey about confidence and trust in the street. We gave some people bottles of water in the street.Different people have different reflect.Old people and children would receive water in a pleased smile.Young adult would say in a appreciated tone and rejected accepting it.They must think we have something poisonous into the water and they would be cheated. It showed that the relationship between people have become more and more feeble. As the development of society and economy, walls of hearts have become thicker.Brothers and the honest man set a good example for us.It is no delay to rebuild the good faith system. When the young man came to a small tailor-shop, he asked if they had a misfit suit that had been thrown on their hands. The fellow he spoke to nodded his head towards another fellow, and gave him no answer.he went to the indicated fellow, and he indicated another fellow with his head, and no words.he went to the fellow, and he said:“ 'Tend to you presently.” The young man waited till he was done with what he was at, then he took the man into a back room, and overhauled a pile of rejected suits, and selected the rattiest one for him.so he didn't find any fault on the new clothes, but said, with some diffidence:“ It would be an accommodation to me if you could wait some days for the money.I haven't any small change about me.” The fellow worked up a most sarcastic expression of countenance, and said: “Oh, you haven't? Well, of course, I didn't expect it.I'd only expect gentlemen like you to carry large change.” It shows that almost everyone in the society thinks highly of appearance at the first sight.Although the appearance is not the decisive element in doing something but at least it can help us leave a good impression on others. There are many funny scene in the story.the young man gave them a cheque for charge ,the fellow guy received it with a smile, one of those large smiles which goes all around over, and has folds in it, and wrinkles, and spirals, and looks like the place where you have thrown a brick in a pond;and then in the act of his taking a glimpse of the bill this smile froze solid, and turned yellow, and looked like those wavy, wormy spreads of lava which you find hardened on little levels on the side of Vesuvius.I never before saw a smile caught like that, and perpetuated. We found it humorous to imagine the fellow’s expression, from large smile to shock with a mouth open. Then the boss asked the young man to try the fashion clothes in his shop, and bring him so many good clothes and told him when he paid for them depends on him.a notion that money is superior to everything is obviously revealed in this.A poor man can be treated as a royal because of a piece of irredeemable cheque.Besides, in the bobbs hotel, the manager drove off the real royal and made a new decoration in that luxurious bedroom for the man who owned a 500million pounds in cheque. But when the cheque was lost, everyone doubled whether the young man had had the million cheque, and the managers who allowed him to pay his bill whenever he wanted began asking him to pay his huge bill.It is so realistic.Money was over everything in the world except in this modern society.Only through demonstrating money can we have our states in this money-oriented society. It has become a trend to through money to show our state. In the end the little brother won the bet.Not only did the young man have a good life during 30days, but get a beautiful wife and have much more money. The Million Pound Note is worth to read.
