Despite the competition, which is still fierce for people like Yang craving for a career in civil service, the number of applicants for this year's exam is estimated to be down compared to previous years.尽管竞争仍很激烈，但还是有很多像杨阳一样的人非常渴望成为公务员。但今年考试报名的人数估计比过去有所降低。
“People are becoming more and more rational and cautious in taking part in the civil service exam,” said Zhang Hongjun, a civil service exam training expert with Beijing Offcn Future Education Consulting Co.,Ltd.“人们参加公务员考试越来越理性和谨慎，”张红军说，他是中公未来教育咨询有限公司教育专家，中公教育是北京一家专门从事公务员培训课程的辅导机构。

对于刚毕业的年轻人来说，选择基层职位可以是一个好的开始。公务员的职业生涯也给人提供了从最初的小角色成长为高级公务员的可能性。

“If I fail this year, I will continue next year because I want a Beijing hukou(household registration)so badly, and I think many of people who take part in the national civil service exam do so for the same reason,” said Yang, who can receive a hukou through a job as a civil servant.“如果今年我失败了，明年我还会继续，因为我特别想要一个北京户口，而且我认为很多人参加国家公务员考试都是为了同样的理由，”杨说。如果她能成为公务员，就能得到一个户口。
“I myself don't have any noble goals such as devoting my whole life to the nation or the people,” said Yang.“我没有将我的一生都献给国家或人民这么高尚的目标”杨说。
