毕业了，感想特多，但其实毕业这段时间想得最多的就是英语专业的出路问题。虽然本人因为缺乏信心和胆量从而选择保研这个最中庸而省事的道路，但我的许多同学皆因最终出路问题，绞过不少脑汁也有过n夜的挣扎。最后有一大半的同学选择了考研，当然这其中还不包括保研的。究其最根本原因，无非是理科学校english majors找工作实在是难。这点在今年尤为明显，一是因为现在英语人才爆炸，阿猫阿狗的都会来几句;二是因为99年为第一年大规模扩招，僧多粥少啊!!其实现在市场上对于英语人才的需求还是蛮大。但问题是真正学的精的人少之又少，大多数人还是浮于表面。到最后真正纯粹靠英语糊口的人已然不多，大多数人都转去搞别的了，比如外贸什么的。

我细细想了想，完全和英语接轨的就业渠道有这么几种:

一，高校英语教师。要做英语教师我个人认为不是很难，难就难在如何当好一个英语教师。因为就我个人观察，有很多人选择做老师这一行多是因为待遇稳定，以及一年两次的假期。其实做老师可以轻而易举的天天混着，生活安闲也没有什么压力。可是如何调动学生的兴趣如何最大限度的利用课堂时间，这绝对不是很容易的问题。尤其在大学里，没有了高考的压力，老师要混日子更是轻松的很，在英语系就更别提了，上课光放放片子也可美其名曰多媒体教学。然而问题总是双面性的，也恰恰因为没有了高考的压力，更多的学生对大学老师的教学方式也变得更为挑剔。所以，在这样的情况下如何让学生觉得你的课worthwhile便需要花不少精力了。(补充;还必须强调的是，现在要在高校当老师，文凭这个敲门砖不可少，我毕业的时候对这一点认识还不是很深刻，以为英语专业毕业的最后总有一个救命稻草就是当老师，说实话，刚入校的时候对这条路是颇为不屑的，现在看看形势，稍微入流的大学都要求博士生。所以，研究生便又处于一个高不成低不就的尴尬阶段!其实学习语言学的研究生其研究的内容对于教学并没有太大作用，但是现在门槛节节拔高，想当老师也只能节节往上爬。许多局外人对于英语专业研究生还有很大的误解，理所当然地认为只要上了研究生英语技能就比本科生高，我想再次声明英语专业研究生注重的是研究能力，而并非提高基础技能，包括翻译，学习的也是理论，而且不是技巧方面的理论，是纯纯纯纯的理论!!!)

二，翻译。外行人一听外语系学生的名号就觉得你理所当然的翻译很棒。其实，我个人认为要成为真正的翻译好手是相当难的。首先，英语技能必须扎实，这点当然毋庸置疑，然后中文功底也必须深厚，这点也颇为明显，翻译者本来就是个桥梁，因而桥梁两边的风景都得熟悉。不过中文毕竟是母语，再怎么次，好歹也能把话说清楚。英语要掌握的那么地道就不那么容易了，这就是为什么现在中译英的译者比较难找，待遇也比较高的原因。ok，除了对中英语言的掌握以外，一个人的综合知识也相当相当重要，可以说和语言掌握能力处于相同的地位。为什么这么说呢?相信做过翻译的人都有这样的体会。翻译原文中稍微涉及到某专业的知识，翻译起来就颇不顺手。尤其当该领域对你来说完全陌生时，原文在你看来也只不过是一个个孤立的单词。其实有时候，原文并不属于非常专业的文章，只不过里面有几个单词或词组涉及到政治，经济或其它领域。其实对这领域稍加熟悉便能轻松应付。因此这就要求译者的知识面要相当广泛，任何领域都应稍加涉猎。样样懂点皮毛，样样却都不精，这样的评语并不能说是完全褒义的。但对于英语专业的学生来说如果能做到这一点对于其翻译工作却有着莫大的帮助。其实拓宽的现代社会，现在属于知识爆炸的时代，新生事物不断涌现，若能正做到这一点也已经非常不错了。唉，其实我个人就相当佩服那些知识面广的同学，欣赏他们的博学和侃侃而谈的潇洒。而我就不行了，只对自己有兴趣的话题感兴趣，像政治，经济，体育什么的，我对其了解程度真的是少的可怜哦!!!所以，这次废话中的一个精华建议就是—努力积累，积极扩大自己的知识领域。这句话不单单是对那些想从事翻译工作的同学说的，同时也对所有人适用，当今社会这点真的相当重要。这也是提高自身修养的一个重要方面，尤其在社交场合，你能根据不同的交谈对象轻松的从脑中数据库调用出相关信息，然后侃侃而谈，让你的魅力值急剧飙升。(严重警告;请注意在侃侃而谈时不要因忘形而造成吐沫飞溅。)呵呵，我这一扯就扯远了，我回头看看我该说什么了。哦，翻译!!反正，做翻译应该是英语专业毕业生干本行的一条途径，其实也是个颇能赚钱的行当(呵呵，年纪不大但已经有铜臭味了)。

可惜自称能做翻译的人多了，可真正能成为行家的却又寥寥无几。我曾经思考过这样一个问题，英语专业学生和其他专业英语学的好的学生，两者做翻译谁更有优势。结果是，如果为专业性翻译，英语专业学生丝毫无便宜可占，反倒是相关专业中英语学的好的同学，再稍加训练，做起本专业的翻译反而得心应手。英语专业学生的优势无非是英语掌握的比较扎实，做起文学翻译等非专业性翻译优势比较明显。可是专业性英语，如经济英语和计算机英语，固定的词条往往有固定的翻译，外行人恐怕很难翻对，即便想强行翻，资料便得查个半天，而且往往费了那么多事最后错误率还极高，悲哀啊悲哀。所以，你如果想从事专业翻译，光学英语是绝对不行的，还得另学专业知识，当然，你不必理解的多么透彻，但至少，基础的东西不可少。如果想从事文学翻译，嘿嘿，你也得掂量掂量自己的中文水平哦，反正我常常是看懂了英文的意思，可是却找不到恰当的中文，那种滋味，唉，真是憋得慌!!!所以我一度对翻译丧失信心。

其实我觉得语言这东西还真是讲究点天分，你还不能不承认。但除此之外我们能做的就是练，翻译也是这样。其重要性不言而喻，至少对英语专业的人来说是混饭的道路之一。那么怎么练??嘿嘿，我又要说废话了--自己一段段翻译。其实这真是傻瓜都明白，可类似我这样的傻人一类总想摸索些所谓的捷径。于是乎，我也买了几大本翻译技巧书，期望在看完前人的经验后便得道升天。只可惜，前人的经验看完了，它还是前人的，基本合上书后便不留下一丝痕迹。再说了翻译技巧中那么多的条条框框，谁能在翻译时眼前顿现如此多框架??所以哦，还是得练。那么如何练?我认为应该阅读前人经验和自己实际操作相结合。只有自己做了才能深刻体会到技巧的高妙，才能在下次遇到类似句型时立刻想到运用相关技巧。而且在翻译中通过对不同方法的捉摸和比较，我们也能自己摸索出最佳的翻译方法。具体说，我觉得应该选一本配有练习的翻译书，每天翻译一篇，然后将自己的译文和参考答案相对照。仔细捉摸不同之处，分析参考译文的优点。如果有翻译分析，那当然就更好了。最后，将那些值得注意的'地方以及自己总结出的技巧用笔记本记录下来。这样印象绝对深刻。而且这比任何翻译技巧书任何翻译教程都有用。其实自己亲自翻译是最有用的英语学习之道，这不仅仅就翻译技巧的提高而言，而且你每翻译一段文字其实是对该文字的彻底消化，无论是英文语法，句式结构还是文章的具体内容!反正，翻译是最全面最彻底的英语学习方法!!!

有朋友此时想问了，即然你将翻译练习说的那么神奇，那么你坚持多久了?呵，呵(注:苦笑声)，千万不要因为我打了这么多字就忘了我的本性—一个懒人!!!唉，其实我也是坚持了两天的，还用红笔注出我译文和参考译文的不同之处，后来因为红笔笔迹太多，而且翻译过程又太痛苦，就又放弃了。直到现在还没有勇气和毅力再重新开始，汗颜哦。不过，你们一定要相信我，这样的练习方式绝对会使你的翻译水平有大幅度提高，当然，前提是你得坚持!!两天速成是不可能的，我本人不就是个鲜活的例子吗??

反正话说那么多了，是非对错还得看官您自个儿分析，您说是这个理不?当时我练习用的是上海外语教育出版社出的《高级翻译教程》，就是英语高级口译资格证书考试系列书之一，孙万彪，王恩铭编著。这本书和其他翻译教程不一样，没有专门讲授翻译技巧，而是通过对一篇篇短文的翻译和讲解来进行实例分析。每单元一开始就是一篇文章，你可以先自己翻译一遍，翻译过程中有不懂的单词和用法可以参照文章后面的words and expressions。然后和参考译文对照，找出差别，然后结合notes and explanations分析这些不同之处，并总结经验。我感觉这本书这样用应该能达到编者预期的效果。如果只是生看，那你其实在做课文分析!!!ok，希望有志之士能照我这办法练习一段时间，我不敢说你的翻译水平能在多短时间内得到提高，但坚持数年必有好处。另外，向大家推荐两本我们任课老师向我们推荐的两本翻译教程。都是比较老，但据说是比较经典的，有兴趣朋友可以买来看看。英译汉她推荐的是上海外语教育出版社出版的《英汉翻译教程》，张培基，喻云根等编著。嘿嘿，看看年代1980年9月第一版，至今已经翻印了三十几版，可见其经典性了吧。还有本汉译英也是上海外语出版社出版的，名为《汉英翻译基础》，主编;陈宏薇

上次谈到做老师和当翻译，其实英语专业的学生还可以在一个领域拓展自己的优势，那就是—英文写作。虽然很多英语专业的同学提起英文写作仍是一幅苦不堪言的样子。但毕竟相对非专业的同学而言，我们多了四年的专业训练，还是有优势可言的。现如今，我们口语的战场已一步步沦陷，越来越多的非英语专业生的口语技能不得不让我们这些科班出生的人汗颜。不过，这也是一种趋势，而且口语这东西，只要苦心练习，必定有所成。但写作就不一样了，它需要一定时间的专业培训，一些规则和格式都需要练。当然我不否认非英语专业学生也能通过自己的努力来提高自己的写作水平。敢问什么事不能?但毕竟相对于口语而言，写作并不为那么多人所重视，而且练习写作远远要比练习口语复杂的多。而英语专业的学生由于接触英语毕竟比较多，而且也有过几学期写作的专业训练，因而在英文写作上还是有优势可言的。但俗话说师傅领进门，修行靠个人。如何将这个优势扩大，才是我们需要面对的问题。虽然有优势，但写出来的东西还是不令人满意，仍然不能符合要求，那么这种优势就根本不能叫做优秀。如果想靠写作来混饭吃，当撰稿人或编辑什么的话，就必须—练。呵呵，还是老生常谈。其实，英文写作是最能反映一个人英语综合水平的，这就反映在你写出的东西是否流畅简洁，是否像篇英文的东西。听起来简单，但做起来是多难啊。这就是为什么英文写作一直是众多英语学习者的心病。可以这样说，如果你能自如的写出比较地道的文章，那么你对英语的掌握就已经很深了。而且为什么现在做翻译中译英远比英语中难?就是因为理解中文意思容易但要将其转换为地道的英文，那就难了。所以如果英文写作能力比较强的话，中译英的能力也会相应提高。

其实，做老师，翻译或写作，这三条路都不好走。能走的人比较多但能真正走好的人不知能有几人?我个人认为还是做高校老师最容易混日子，绝对是大实话。如果要做翻译的话，我认为如果你中文功底不是相当深厚，最好不要做文学翻译，绝对是件痛苦的事!但如果要做其它专业翻译的话，建议在闲暇时间多学学专业知识，只要专业知识在手，我们翻出来的东西还是要强于非专业生的。现在口译让人感到是个很时髦很赚钱的行当。但大家要做好思想准备，压力绝对大。每次口译前都要做大量的准备工作，阅读大量的相关知识，就像全身换了一次血。

唉，其实凡事也不是那么难，不过，我向来有点悲观主义。所以，如果各位准备将英语进行到底，已决定完全靠其养活自己的话，那么就义无反顾地练练练吧!!good luck to you all!
