Chinese Dream,My Dream
--------Calss1103
ZhouWeiye George Distinguished judges ,honorable teachers ladies and gentlemen: Good evening,My name is George.Standing on this magical stage and facing my respected teachers and dear classmates here, I am very excited to be of participating in this speech contest. Here and now, we can see a group of gifted and motivated students to present us different points of views on different topics, of course, I am one member of this excellent group that I just mentioned.Today my topic is “Chinese dream, my dream”.The sunrise is bringing the world a new flavor, a new century of China is coming towards the world’s citizens. As time passes by, the passion in the hearts of Chinese people never cools, but with more rational minds, we are carefully spurring on China's renewal.Dreams are the strongest desires hidden deeply in people's hearts, they are also the lifeblood for people on the road to success. Each person has his own dream, desire and pursuit. As a nation, a collective dream also exists. Our national president Xi said “To realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is the greatest dream in modern times.” In order to realize this dream, we constantly make contributions to human civilization and regard it as our national responsibility. Our nation has more than five thousand years of civilization, it has greatly promoted the progress of mankind. We are immersed in dreams and rise after trials, with strong ability and then stand proudly in the big family of nations. We, the Chinese people are willing to make new, even greater contributions to humanity.Beginning with “national independence and liberation” as the dream, to the dream of a “country prosperous and people rich”, and now the dream of “the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”, the “Chinese dream” is founded on 1.3 billion Chinese people's dream. To realize the dream of the Chinese nation, we need the efforts of several generations. In the near future, we will become the mainstay of the dream.Only with a hardworking spirit, will our dreams come true.As a contemporary college student, and I have my own dream.I hope I can have the chance to be a teacher in the poor places of western China,to be a volunteer,to train myself in the most difficult environment,to contribute what I have to my country.Although it is limited, I believe there will be more and more people who want to join the team, for those lovely children, for their better future, for a more beautiful homeland. So my dream is the Chinese dream, China’s dream is my dream.Looking up at the starry sky is good, but it also requires a down-to-earth attitude. To make the dream come true, I need to better myself with actions. The road is very long, and there is a lot of sweat to pay for it.To realize my dream, I will never give up.This is my speech, thank you for listening.Questions and proposals are welcome.Thank you!

For Which Way Shall We Be Headed
----Culture Smart or Science Intelligent
Over the past few thousand years of human history, many a conflict between culture and science had been taking place. And it was these conflicts that had long been debated: Which, on earth, should be counted as the superior one, culture or science? Up to present, the two of them haven’t yet reached a compromise. So now the problem we’re still facing is, for which way shall we be headed, the cultural one or the scientific one?
Dating back to the Ancient Society, deniably speaking, the cultural atmosphere then was quite strong. Our ancestors then were quite smart, they created different kinds of language, Chinese, English, French, and so on, which had helped human being greatly in stepping into the Cultural Age;they created the notes and did the very first piece of music, which was a milestone for the modern music;they created the rough but important laws or rules or disciplines for the societies, some of which are still working today.Maybe we could say, our ancestors then had done everything to perfect culture, which surely, was good, but, not perfect. They should have paid equivalent attention to science, while they didn’t.As a consequence, the human society hadn’t been developing very fast for the past few thousand years.Let’s check out another instance, the discovery of the DNA Double-helix Structure.Imagine, if Crick and Watson were not cultivated but that sort of person who could only do scientific experiments, who cared nothing but their personal benefits, who knew nothing about responsibility and morality, what would have happened? Maybe this significant discovery would have been a fatal disaster to all human being. But lucky enough, they were cultivated and moral, which led to a good result that had been benefiting all mankind from the day DNA was discovered. In which case, culture had played a very crucial part.As far as I could tell, from an undergraduate’s angle, culture and science are the two invaluable parts that neither of them could be ignored.Just like peas and carrots, both of them are indispensable factors for the development of every singe country or society. And only by combining the two of them can we hope to be headed for a brighter future.WELCOME TO 2009 CCTV CUP ENGLISH SPEAKING CONTEST
My appreciation.Jack

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.Today I would like to begin with a story. There was once a physical 1)therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a 2)census about mountain 3)gorillas.These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world;this put them severely under threat of 4)poaching and being put into the zoo.She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas 5)cuddled their babies.Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs.Dian Fossey, who spent most of bet lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a 6)timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our ecoenvironment.Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go.It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur---natural scenes aren't natural anymore.Deforestation to heat lodges is devastating Nepal.Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica.Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks. All these 7)appalling(令人震惊的)facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been 8)eroding(侵蚀)our resources.Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made 2002 the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the
benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our ecoenvironment. Now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection organizations an: receiving donations--big notes, small notes or even coins--from housewives, 9)plumbers(水管工人), ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and 10)invalids(残疾人), Some of them can not afford to send the money but they do.These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care.Because they still want their Mother Nature back.Because they know it still belongs to them. This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it, it's all coming from a scene to remember, a scene to recall and to cherish. The other night, as l saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs.I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to some-thing else, someplace else.a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seem to have been except the deer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's lime for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.Once again, I have come to think of Mrs.Dian Fossey be-cause it's with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our ecoenvironment that we are taking our next step into the world. And no matter who we are, what we do and where we go, in our mind, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it.Thank you very much.
