Together, We Make A Better World

Hi, everyone.My name is ×××, you can call me Zoey.I am honored to be here to give you a speech.The topic for my speech today is “Together We Make A Better World”.I’d like to talk about why we are supposed to work together to make a better world.In the second part I will talk about how to make a better world from my perspective.When asked who can make the world better, it’s understandable to think, “I’m only one person;what can I really do?” However, if every person thinks that, nothing will be achieved.The world consists of individuals.Joint efforts only can drive the world forward and make a better world.That is the reason why we all are expected to join together and be involved in daily deeds.Next, I want to talk about how to make a better world from my perspective.1)Firstly, we should be always ready to help a stranger in difficulty.When we shop in a supermarket, we can give a hand to those carrying heavy goods by holding the door for them.When taking a bus, we can give our seat to those in need.Last year I applied to work as a volunteer for a month, helping passengers with their check-in in Nanjing Lu Kou International Airport.Whenever I find passengers who could not find where the check-in counter was, didn’t know how to check luggage or came across something urgent, I was always glad to give a hand to them.Sometimes even a word of my comfort could make the passengers feel less anxious.I firmly believe that one good turn deserves another.When I am in trouble one day, there must be someone who can pull me out.Thus a better world could be expected.2)Secondly, we college students should volunteer to tutor kids in need of help in learning.Since I am a college student, the most direct and efficient way to better the world is to tutor kids who need help in learning.Last summer vacation I was sent to work as a volunteer tutor in Tang Zhuang Village, Qing Pu District, Huai An.Kids there can’t turn to parents for help in academic learning after class as most of their parents have left for cities and worked there.They stay away from home and can give their children little help in learning.We were warmly welcomed by them and spent a whole month together.I taught them English, Math and some other subjects.In the break time, we sang songs together, danced together and laughed together.We came to know each other and developed a close friendship.In a word, we can not only struggle for a better world on our part, but also encourage people around to join us.Only when we all are involved can we expect a better and better world.Let’s join together!Thank you!

海选时，采取突然淘汰法，即准备不充分、语音语调差的直接淘汰。反之，直接晋级。只是.......要麻烦大家背诵了！其实.......你有把握前两段就打动评委，那.......（不说了）。we are the world,we are the future someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”.i don’t know who wrote these words, but i’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be.we are all in the position of the farmers.if we plant a good seed, we reap a good harvest.if we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.we are young.“how to spend the youth?” it is a meaningful question.to answer it, first i have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind.it’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees.it’s the matter of the will.it’s the freshness of the deep spring of life.a poet said “to see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour.several days ago, i had a chance to listen to a lecture.i learnt a lot there.i’d like to share it with all of you.let’s show our right palms.we can see three lines that show how our love, career and life is.i have a short line of life.what about yours? i wondered whether we could see our future in this way.well, let’s make a fist.where is our future? where is our love, career, and life? tell me.yeah, it is in our hands.it is held in ourselves.we all want the future to be better than the past.but the future can go better itself.don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.from the past, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher.we’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it.failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way.failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.as what i said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”.the past has gone.nothing we do will change it.but the future is in front of us.believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us.and from today on, let’s be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “we are the world, we are the future.”

我们所有人都希望未来能比过去更美好，但是未来能自己变得更好。不要因为结束而哭泣，微笑吧，为你的曾经拥有。从过去来看，生活是艰苦的，但我们是更坚强。我们知道我们不能选择感觉，但是我们能选择和它相关的东西。失败并不意味着你不拥有成功，它只意味着你应该用另一种方式去做这件事。失败并不意味着你应该放弃，只意味着你应该更加努力。

一、大赛介绍

“‘外研社杯’全国英语演讲大赛”、“‘外研社杯’全国英语写作大赛”和“‘外研社杯’全国英语阅读大赛”是由外语教学与研究出版社和教育部高等学校大学外语教学指导委员会、教育部高等学校英语专业教学指导分委员会联合举办的公益大赛。

“‘外研社杯’全国英语演讲大赛”于2002年创办，在国内外广受关注，已成为全国参赛人数最多、规模最大、水平最高的英语演讲赛事。

（二）写作大赛

“‘外研社杯’全国英语写作大赛”于2012年启动，旨在推动英语写作教学，提高学生英语写作水平，引领高校外语写作教学的改革与发展。

（三）阅读大赛

“‘外研社杯’全国英语阅读大赛”于2015年全新举办，旨在通过比赛的形式，激发大学生的英语学习热情，为他们提供阅读实践的机会和自我挑战的舞台。

三项大赛以高远的立意和创新的理念，汇聚全国优秀学子，竞技英语表达与沟通艺术。同一赛场，三个舞台，既各具特色，又互促互进，为全国大学生提供展示外语能力、沟通能力与思辨能力的综合平台。

复赛时间：2015年10月17日、10月24日、10月31日，时间均为9:00－11:00。同一时间比赛的省采用相同赛题。

比赛题目：比赛开始时当场公布。赛题为议论文写作1篇、说明文写作1篇，每篇长度为500词左右，写作时间共两小时。

比赛方式：现场写作，使用大赛专用写作评阅系统进行操作。比赛不允许携带电子设备，不允许使用网络。

决 赛

复赛结束后，各省大学外语教学研究会将获得决赛资格的3名选手向大赛组委会秘书处报名参加全国决赛。大赛组委会不接受选手个人直接报名。

比赛地点：北京

比赛时间：2015年12月9日9:00－12:00 比赛方式：现场写作，使用大赛专用写作评阅系统进行操作。比赛不允许携带电子设备，不允许使用网络。组委会统一提供词典。

“‘外研社杯’全国英语阅读大赛”分为“模拟赛”和“大赛”两个阶段。

一、模拟赛

正式比赛前，大赛组委会将举办模拟赛。学生自愿报名，在大赛官方网站注册后直接参加模拟赛。

比赛方式：登录大赛官方网站，在“外研社杯”全国英语阅读大赛赛事系统中线上参赛。每次模拟赛持续三天，选手可以在三天内选择任意时间上网参加模拟赛。（详情见每次模拟赛具体通知。）

Today my topic is ’Nuclear power: a blessing or a disaster?’

When the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, the world was thrust into atomic age.Meanwhile in the commence of cold war and during its long term, it had set the world into fear and panic of nuclear war many times.But over the years, nuclear power has found its way to promote goodness for humankind.It promises to provide clean and efficient energy for the centuries to come.So whether nuclear power a blessing or a disaster?

There is no firm answer for this question from my own perspective.Ladies and gentlemen, my very initial contact with nuclear power was from a TV programme called Green Space where I saw for the first time how nuclear power had changed people’s lives and what it had left for the residents’ living around Chyrnobil nuclear power plant.Unfortunately, It was a sad story.My heart sank when I saw a boy infant appear on the screen smiling with big blue sparkling eyes.He was so cute and adorable just like all the other kids but he was blinded.What’s more, he had to receive medical treatment everyday to alleviate radiation damage, but still stood little chance of growing up.Later I learned that inappropriate operation and equipment design defect was responsible for the tradegy.Eight years has past, but the picture of that boy’s smile still appears infront of me and reminds me that nuclear power can be a living devil.However, with the increasing depletion of resources and the instant demand for energy, clean and efficient nuclear power may seem the best choice.As an old saying goes ’Every sword has two blades.’ Nuclear power is dangerous, yet efficient;environmental devastated yet clean;expensive yet sustainable.It is a matter of how we use and how we treat it.While let’s beyond all this ,whether nuclear power a blessing or a disaster, it’s ours’ choice.Thank you for listening!

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.My topic today is “Environment is my top concern”.When talking about Environment, what’s the first thing that has come to your mind? Is it the Copenhagen climate change conference, or the Gulf Oil Spill, or the leak of toxic sludge in Hungary？ Different people may have different answers.Let’s check out how serious the environmental situation is in the world.Recent years have seen an increasing number of reports on the extinction of species, soil erosion as well as air pollution.The history of industrialization and urbanization has been a history of declining environmental quality.We may be satisfied with our so called modern life, but please do not turn a blind eye to what’s happened around us.Water is polluted.Animals are killed.Resources are devoured.And farmlands turn into desserts.Ladies and gentlemen, this is the world we now live in.It’s not a wonderland.It’s not a safe haven.It’s a planet damaged by human beings and the situation is getting even worse.We need to change.We need to do something about it.We need to shoulder our responsibility.Otherwise, the end of world may come just as the film 2012 showed us.Now is the moment;Now is the time;Now is the only chance we can have to save our world.Then you may ask “what can we do”? I have listed three answers to this question for all of you.Firstly, the governments should take a leading role in publicizing knowledge and raising people’s awareness.They are supposed to use economic and administrative leverage to monitor and regulate the environmental protection.Secondly, companies should raise their ability of independent innovation.They should encourage scientific and technological advances, and use new methods to reduce wastes and pollution.And thirdly, we people, as individuals, must take some actions.We should keep firmly in mind that every enormous change starts from the very first step.Ladies and gentlemen, the earth is in our hands.Save it, or destroy it, it’s our choice.Our efforts will be powerful enough to save the world.If everyone, including you and me, is engaged in this world-saving project, environment will never ever be my top concern.
