“口语”是人们口头上交际使用的语言,它与书面语相对,是人类重要的交际工具之一。口语既我们俗称的“说”。“说”作为学习和运用语言必备的四项基本技能之一,是语言教学中的一个重要环节。“说”的过程是语言输出的过程,是运用口语表达思想、输出信息的过程,是语言不断内化后主动生成的结果。只有在不断的“说”的练习中,听、说、读、写的能力才会得到进一步的巩固和发展。那么,在教学中该如何提高学生的口语交际能力呢?笔者根据自身教学经验,总结了一些策略和方法。
一、立宽松和谐的语言环境和寓教于乐的学习气氛,通过生动有趣的教学活动激发学生想说的欲望。加强文化导入,无论是讲课、做练习,还是进行口语交流,应当严格要求学生用英语思考和交际,逐渐培养学生们英语输出的无意识行为,这样天长日久,他们会很自然地运用英语,而不再依靠本族语作媒介。另外,创造一种轻松、活跃的气氛也是发挥学生潜力的重要因素。语言学习需要一定的环境,缺
少语言环境的外语学习,对抽象能力较弱的小学生来说具有一定的难度。这就需要教师把英语课堂设置成生动活泼、色彩斑斓的社会活动舞台,模拟真实情景,将枯燥、抽象的内容寓于一个悦耳、悦目、悦心的情景中,让学生在情景中学,在情景中用,在用的过程中认识语言,领悟语言,激发兴趣,启发思维。
小学生具有好动、好胜、不怕羞的特点。教学实践告诉我们,将游戏和竞赛这种学生喜闻乐见的活动引入课堂,让学生们玩起来,动起来,说起来,能够充分调动学生的积极性,把“说英语”变成一种愉快的体验。在活动过程中,学生主动参与和进行简单的语言交际,从而获得初步的交际能力。
二、英语教师的教学观念应跟上时代步伐。实验表明,每堂课大约只有20分钟时间适宜学生集中精力输入知识,而其余20分钟,学生已不能保持全神贯注,所以我们应当适时采取灵活的教学方法,充发利用课堂时间使学生积极参与,练习口语。我们还应该认识到良好的口语水平是通过实际练习获得的而不是靠灌输。学生只有反复实践才能熟练,熟才能生巧。因此,教师必须牢固树立以学生为中心的观念,而自己只是活动的组织者、参与者和协调者。
三、丰富语言材料的呈现方式。运用图片、投影、录像等,激发学生浓厚的兴趣。特别是图片的运用,既简便易行,又丰富多彩。小学生的形象思维能力强于抽象思维能力,他们对色彩颜色的画面特别偏爱。在小学英语口语教学中,由于处于语言学习的初级阶段,学生学习的实义词较多。图画是传递语言信息的重要载体,通过图画,教
师可免去烦琐的母语翻译,减少母语对英语学习的干扰,培养学生用英语进行思维的习惯。此外,通过图画,教师还可以开展丰富多彩的语言活动或游戏,如看图说出单词或短语。图片还可以帮助教师创设特定的语言场景,展示语言交际的背景材料。
四、从学生的学习兴趣、生活经验和认知水平出发。课程标准强调课程应从学生的学习兴趣、生活经验和认识水平出发,倡导体验、实践、参与、合作与交流的学习方式和任务型的教学途径,发展学生的综合语言运用能力,使语言学习的过程成为学生形成积极的情感态度、主动思维和大胆实践、提高跨文化意识和形成自主学习能力的过程。教师在进行口语活动设计时要本着体验学习、合作学习、思维学习的教学理念,将语言学习和多种能力的培养渗透到课堂活动和教学任务中,努力为孩子们提供一个不断感知、不断探索、不断提高的成长空间。
五、正确对待口语交际活动中的错误。任何语言学习过程都是不断假设、检验、分析、类比的过程。外语学习正像儿童习得母语过程一样,存在一个过渡阶段,语言错误的出现不可避免。要求自己每句话都正确是不实际的,容易导致畏惧情绪,失去学习的信心。事实上学习中的错误能够反映出许多东西,对所犯的错误要进行分析,属于哪一种类型,是语言能力错误还是语言运用错误。如属于语言能力错误,则及时系统地学习,以便在今后交际活动中消除此类错误;如属于语言运用错误,比如由于紧张出现的口误则可以置之不理。
六、了解文化差异,消除文化隔阂。不同的国家和民族有着不同的风俗习惯、行为准则和价值观。语言具有丰富的文化内涵。在外语教学中,文化是指所学语言国家的历史地理、风土人情、传统习俗、生活方式、文学艺术、行为规范、价值观念等,接触和了解英语国家文化,有助于对英语的理解和使用,有助于加深对本国文化的理解与认识,有助于培养世界意识。在教学中,教师应根据学生的年龄特点和认知能力,逐步扩展文化知识的内容和范围。在起始阶段,应使学生对英语国家文化及中外文化的异同有粗略的了解,教学中涉及的英语国家文化知识,应与学生身边的日常生活密切相关,并能激发学生学习英语的兴趣。在英语学习的较高阶段,应通过扩大学生接触异国文化的范围,帮助学生拓展视野,提高他们对中外文化异同的敏感性和鉴别能力,进而提高其跨文化交际能力。
七、模仿性的训练与创造性的表达想结合。儿童学习说话使用了很多学习手段,从简单的模仿、练习、巩固到复杂的传递、迁移、概念形成。儿童不仅模仿语言,而且创造性地使用语言,因此语言学习不仅仅是模仿。每个人与他人讲的话以及同一个人在不同的时间、地点、场合,针对不同事件,在不同心情下讲的话都不完全一样。语言的使用过程就是再创造的过程。在口语能力训练过程中不仅要模仿、背诵,还要根据不同的情景和话题创造性地说话,运用已学语言解决实际生活与模仿生活情景中的问题。
八、采用多种口语训练形式。无论采用何种形式训练英语口语,教师应以培养学生的兴趣为出发点,并自始至终热情地激励同学们的参与。为了摸清同学们各自的兴趣所在,有必要通过问卷调查等形式
进行了解,并以此为根据设计口语交流活动。
1.组织兴趣小组,以小组为单位进行口语交流活动。这种形式最能激发学生学习英语的兴趣。学生自由组合,自选话题,从自己的兴趣出发强化口语。一方面学生课下进行自己感兴趣的相关活动,另一方面教师可以组织各个小组在课上用英语汇报课外活动或描述自己感兴趣的所见所闻。教师还可以利用同学们的竞争心理和集体荣誉感设计、组织小组间的竞赛活动。
2.学生自编自演短剧节目和角色扮演。实践证明,同学们参加这种形式口语活动兴致非常高、训练效果也堪称最佳。这种活动的另一优点是它能有效促进班级的内部和谐和师生间的亲密关系。教师应努力创造接近真实的交际情景。无论是短剧节目还是角色扮演,都应在轻松的气氛中,真实的情景下让同学们自由发挥,这样才能挖掘出同学们的潜力,提高临场解决问题的能力。
3.积极开展多种形式的课外活动。同学们在课外英语活动中更能放得开,融得进。活动组织者应注意为同学们提供良好的文化氛围和语言氛围。这些课外活动可以包括:英语角、英语沙龙、英语演讲、英语出游等。这里需要强调的是课外英语活动应具有长期性和规律性,让同学们养成定时参与的习惯,实现英语口语持续性的促进和提高。
总之,语言是一种交际工具,作为启蒙教育的小学英语教学要遵循交际性原则,充分调动小学生学习英语的积极性,培养和保持他们学习英语的兴趣,使学生在生活化的教学场景中学习、使用语言,为
他们将来更好地成长、成才奠定坚实的基础。
