第四篇:英语口语要求
Dec.3,2013
Dear students,The following topics and related tips are for our oral English exam in the 16th week.Considering the time limit, I’m not sure if I’ll have enough time to listen to your answers one by one.And I’m not sure if all of you are willing to talk with me in English about such serious topics related to the texts we learned. So now I’m going to give you several choices about the oral English exam.To make everyone understand, I tell you in Chinese:
Opportunities always belong to those who are well prepared.God helps those who help themselves. There is no shortcut to success.Diligence is an inevitable way to success.God bless all of you!
Yours sincerely,刘子英(Ida)
Topics for the Oral English Exam
1.Your college English learning(your difficulties, your successful or unsuccessful experiences, your worries about the exam or your confidence in it, and conclusion)(For group work: Several students are talking with their high school head teacher about their college life, including their confusion, frustration and challenges and the teacher is trying to encourage them and give them some advice.)
2.What tips can you give now as to how to bridge the generation gap?(For group work #1:
A father and a son or a mother and a daughter are quarrelling with each other about the son’s/daughter’s clothing, hairstyle, music, etc.and later one of them realizes that he/she needs to understand the other person more and says sorry for his/her own attitude. For group work #2: Several mothers/fathers are talking with each other about their children who are in high school. These parents are trying to sympathize with each other, reflect upon themselves(反省自我)and encourage each other to take the initiative to bridge the generation gap between their children and them.)
3.What impressed you most about the crippled father in Section A of Unit 3?(For group work: A college student is talking with his/her close friend about the good example of his/her severely crippled parent who has been gone for several years and the friend is greatly encouraged so that he/she decides to study harder to repay his/her parents one day.)
4..Can you give some tips to your classmates who are speaking in front of us and want very much to make a good impression on their teacher and classmates?(For group work: : a job interview)
5.What lessons can you learn from the Olympic diver’s misfortune described in Section B of Unit 5?(For group work: A news reporter is interviewing Greg Louganis, the Olympic diver who has to quit diving professionally after the Olympics.)
6.What have you learned from the trashman and the company man?(Unit 6)(For group work #1: A news reporter has heard of the trashman and wants to write a report about him.So now he is interviewing the trashman. For group work #2: A friend is talking with the son/daughter of the company man who worked himself to death.)
下面几个话题留给愿意的同学去思考,主要是关于最后没有上的那几个单元的话题。想要下学期能更容易并且指望大二过4、6级的同学一定要自学最后4个单元。
7.What are you going to say to those students who think they have chosen the wrong major at college?(Section B, Unit9)
8.How can students make easier success at college according to Section A of Unit9?
9.What is integrity and what are the three principles to test whether one is a person of integrity?
10.How did you feel after you watched the 25-minute-long video entitled “Life without Limbs”?
11.What have you learned from the film Joseph, King of Dreams?
Tips about the first 6 questions:
1.You may talk about your specific weaknesses in English and your own way of learning, your efforts to change the situation, and the result.2.show respect;listen more than you talk;ask whether your child wants to hear it before sharing your point of view;think “we” instead of “you”;keep calm;don’t apply double standards;admit your own mistakes and talk about what you’re learning from them;enjoy them.3.What impressed me most is the father’s self-acceptance about his disability and his son’s immaturity. He is proud of his son in spite of the son’s imperfection. The father’s optimism, enthusiasm, perseverance, and his positive attitude toward his life, work and people are also very impressive to me.4.You are the message(Your physical appearance, energy, rate of speech, pitch and tone of voice, gestures, and expressions through the eyes…);be yourself consistently, at your best;use your eyes;lighten up.5.When his peers called him names and mugged him, he chose to take drugs. This is the beginning of his destruction. He shouldn’t have taken that so seriously. He has to make wise choices about life, because he is the only person who has to face the consequences of each choice of his own.If he had not built his own identity on others’ opinion, he might have been a very happy person with such success in diving. So when others speak evil of us, do not pay attention if they are wrong. If they are right, correct yourself if possible. And If what they say about me is wrong, it will not become right because they all say so.If what they say is the fact and I cannot change it, who is hurt if I can accept the fact? Accept our own unchangeables and take advantage of our present chances to prove ourselves a worthwhile human being who may contribute to the happiness of others. If other people talk, let them be.Whatever we do, people would talk.As Mr.Bennet says in the film Pride and Prejudice, “What do we live for but to make sport for our neighbors and laugh at them in our turn?(我们活着是为了什么?不就是给邻居当笑柄再反过来笑他们吗?)”
6.Section A and Section B present us with a sharp contrast between two men of two different kinds of jobs: the contented trashman and the workaholic company man.I would prefer to be the child of the trashman rather than the company man if I had to choose of the two men as my father. And I’d rather choose to be a trashman who feels proud of his job than be a company man who is a workaholic living under great strain of promotion while ignoring all his family members and others. The value of a person does not consist in what kind of job he is doing, but in what character qualities he is demonstrating while he is doing the job.His attitude toward the job and the people in contact with him represents the way he looks on himself, that is, his self-esteem, or his self-worth.People from all walks of life are needed in the society to make the world function effectively. We shouldn’t admire one profession while despising another, just as we should not look down upon our left hand for the deftness of our right hand.

Good morning(evening), every one
My name is Yuelang from Fensiting primary school, I am in grade four.As we all know, there are lot of people in the world who like animals so much, they think animals are our friends, they help animals and protect them.I like animals too.I want a cute doggy to be my buddy. So I always beg my parents to let me
have a dog in our home; But Mom always turns me down. She says, “We cannot keep a dog in home because we cannot provide what they need. For example, most of animals need a big space, need to be free outside for hours. If we forced them to stay in our small apartment every hour, everyday, without company, they would just like miserable
prisoners.”
Mom also says, “Dogs also need to be taken good care of.You should wash it every day, you should feed it every day, and you should walk it every day.As for walking a dog, the important thing is that you should remember to remove its shit into a trash can with your hands, if not, our environment will be dirty and messy.”
I still love dogs although I don’t like to remove its shit with my hands.I also understand it is not convenient to keep a dog in our home, because I am too busy to take care of it.But, some day, if we have a big house with a small dog’s door beside our front door, if I grow up to be an adult, I will be a civilized owner of a dog, I will never let dog’s shit on the ground to mess
our neighborhood, I will never let my dog feel like a miserable prisoner..Right now, I will be happier if I can be a volunteer of environment protector.I’d like to ask every owner of pets not only take good care of pets, but keep our environment be beautiful and clear. Then, our neighborhood will be a paradise for both animals and humans. Then, pets and
humans will live together in harmony. That is the true love of pets and animals. That is all
