Write a short essay to describe a rite of passage in China.Think about What is the event, and where does it take lace? In what way can it be seen as a rite of passage? Who takes part in it? What happens afterwards? Has the event changed at all in recent years? : students can refer to the topic on the page 15, students' book A rite of passage in China

In the ancient, it was intensely popular to hold the Mitzvah for people who had been becoming an adult in China. It is reported that the earliest Mitzvah was launched before about 3000 years. The Mitzvah usually took place in the ancestral hall, owing to the great importance of it.There are some difference in the rite of passage between boys and girls. For instance, boys’ Mitzvah was arranged when they are 20 years old, while girls’ was conducted at age of 15.In addition, boys would crown in their Mitzvah, yet girls would coil their hair and wear hairpins.A rite of passage may stand for qualifications of marriage and responsibility to support a family. Therefore, there is no doubt that a rite of passage was pretty significant in people’s whole life.Great changes have taken place in a rite of passage in China with the changing times.Only a few people take part in the Mitzvah. It is obvious that a rite of passage is far less epidemical than that in the old times.People at age of 18 often wear Han Chinese clothing with serious face and in high spirit now.A rite of passage represents the independence of children.Besides, even some children would receivegifts and congratulations from their parents and other relatives. In recent days, there is a trend to hold a rite of passage for all 18-year-old children for the hope that children will be more responsible and brave in the future.

In August 1973, the first national environmental protection conference was held in Beijing. In December 1978, the central committee of the communist party of China turn the fourth meeting of the leading group of environmental protection under the state council by the environmental protection work report points. In September 1979, the environmental protection law of the People's Republic of China(try out)“promulgated, the first legally required all departments and all levels of government in formulating the plan for national economic and social development must consider environmental protection plan as a whole, in order to achieve environmental and economic society coordinated development provides legal protection. The law of the People's Republic of China on the prevention and control of water pollution(May 1984), the law of the People's Republic of China on the prevention and control of atmospheric pollution(September 1987), the grassland of the People's Republic of China ”(June 1985), the law of the People's Republic of China on water act(January 1988), and other environmental protection single have enacted laws and regulations. In December 1989, the environmental protection law of the People's Republic of China issued and implemented formally. From then on, the environmental protection law has become an important role in promoting the environmental protection work in China, as an important part of socialist legal system in our country. In 1990, the state council issued by the “decision on further strengthening of environmental protection”, emphasize the strict environmental protection laws and regulations, take effective measures to prevention and control of industrial pollution in accordance with the law, fully implement the responsibility system for the environmental protection goal, the comprehensive improvement of urban environment quantitative appraisal, the discharge of pollutants permit system, pollution control, time limit, environmental impact assessment system, the “three simultaneity” system, pollution charge system, and so on eight environmental management system, and the implementation of environmental protection on the target responsibility system.

The rich moving out of China According to a recent Hurun report, among the rich worth more than 10million RMB, 14 percent either have already migrated or are applying for migration to a foreign country, and nearly half of them are considering joining the group. It is also said that China has become the largest emigration country in the world.US Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS), the number of Chinese applicants for investment immigration has exceeded applications from any other country or region. So why do so many of the rich in China choose to move out? How will this country be affected by the so called “migration tide”.Better education and robust law system are among what they are looking for overseas. In a violent contrast to Chinese rocketing economy, our education level is still left far behind that of some foreign country, especially the US.People who have made wealth in the past 30 years and subsequently seek better education for the future of their children, join the migration army.Secondly, unlike some who concern about children education much more, other rich people pay more attention to the security of their asset. They are worrying about their asset safety in China, and strongly believe that, under the protection of foreign laws which are nearly to perfection, they will live a life of ease.It can be seen that after obtaining great deal of wealth, rich people in China are obviously pursuing a better living condition, either for their children or themselves. So the question is raised that will this emigration affect China negatively.I say yes, but not as seriously as many think.China witnessed two migration tides before, one in the late70’s, another early 90’s.From these two, the nowadays migration differs in some aspects. The emigrants are no longer poor students only with a resolution to bring back to their motherland cutting edge science and technology overseas, instead they wave goodbyes to China taking with them substantial wealth and many of them are still top-notch intellectuals. It is almost certain that, from this perspective, emigration will undermine China on the way to her rise. However, in my perspective of view, this kind of migration will in some way make China much more influential in the world. The current western world still knows China too little, especially in terms of common citizens.Citing India for example, we can see a similar tide took place in India in the 60’s, which once drew attention and concerns in Indian government and society.Several decades later, these Indian emigrants still keep in bond with their motherland, and improve the image of Indians, thus lift the status of India in the world. So I expect Chinese emigrants will also contribute to China’s success in a different but profound way.Migration tide this time indicates that China, who is on the way of great economy increase, still has more flaws to be perfected, when compared with some developed countries. But we needn’t worry too much.Maybe it’s not a bad thing when looking back several decades later.
