我们总结了过去一年的几点申请经验，在此与大家分享，希望能对各位还在做留学申请准备的同学有所帮助。
1.申请需要早做准备
早？到底要多早？如果条件允许的话，从大一开始就可以准备起来了。
大一：大一相对来说能自我支配的时间最多，所以可以尽可能多地参加一些实习和社团活动。丰富的社团经历可以在扩充CV的同时，也提高了自己在团队合作和领导力方面的软实力，而这些恰好是招生办老师所看重的。至于实习，虽然对于实习生的具体工作，大家都有些心照不宣，无非是一些打杂跑腿的琐碎事，但是积极了解自己所在部门的日常职能，细心观察也能学到很多有用的东西。在这里要和大家强调一点，无论是实习还是社团活动，如果能让自己参与到具体的项目中去，了解自己在整个项目的筹备，实施和后续等各个阶段所起得作用，通过一个个具体的实例来阐述自己的心得体会，必定更具有说服力。当然同学们也要注意平衡自己的学业和课外活动，在积累实践经验的同时，也不忘打好语言基础，为往后的学习开个好头。大一的暑假要好好利用起来，有二外的同学，可以去参加一些培训班，提早做好准备，特别是那些二外占了20个学分的同学，有个好的二外成绩，对于平均分的贡献是非常大的。另外FAM或者其他IB专业的同学，有志于考注册会计师的，也可以利用暑假准备起来了。
大二：大二的学习会紧张一点，并且因为大二的成绩会最终影响到同学们exchange/study abroad的选拔，因此在大一身兼社团数职的同学们需要好好权衡，放弃一些相对不太重要的社团职位了。当然可能有些同学到了大二，能够跻身到社团的管理层，如果你有这个机会，就不妨好好把握，争取做出成就来。大二暑假的时候，大家可以去尝试申请一些名企、外企（如四大、咨询、投行等）的实习，因为这些实习相对含金量高，有的甚至能为实习生提供专业的培训，所以要是有了这些实习经历撑腰，相信必定会为你的申请增色不少。另外，想要考GRE或者GMAT的同学们，也可以在这个时候准备起来了，报名参加相关培训班是不错的速成途径。
大三：大三成绩占最后学位总成绩的30%-40%，同时也是在大四上申请研究生时招生办老师最看重的成绩。所以大三需要尽量在学习上多花点功夫，争取拿到一份不错的成绩单。有Exchange或者Study Abroad机会的同学，一方面可以好好体会下异国他乡的氛围，到处走走看看，思考下这种学习生活环境是否真正适合自己。另一方面可以跟授课老师搞好关系，为今后可能需要的推荐信做好铺垫。在拿到大三成绩单后，同学们就可以正式开始考虑申请的具体事宜了。当然最主要的是先把自己感兴趣的专业给定下来，否则完全没有方向性地乱找，只会浪费自己的时间和精力。一旦申请的方向确定下来之后，同学们就可以利用剩余的时间，进行相关的实习，考G或者考语言，总之就是尽一切能力丰富个人简历，提高自身的竞争力和综合实力。
2.不定一轻视语言成绩
我们说，虽然UNNC是全英文教学，全英文论文，全英文考试。但是，语言考试还是有它的特殊性的。就雅思来说，写作和口语两大块，很多UNNC学生会翻船（单科到不了6分）。所以，尽管大部分英国学校都是可以先给con了雅思要求的预录取通知书，给同学们大四考雅思留出时间。但是不同于其它中国高校，UNNC的大四是最繁忙最重要的一年。很难再抽出充足的时间去备考雅思。我们在咨询过程中已经屡次遇到有同学拿到了一个比较好的offer（比如帝国理工，巴斯，杜伦，兰卡斯特，布里斯托等等），但是最终因为雅思不过关而失之交臂。考了5,6次雅思也还是没考到要求的例子也是屡见不鲜。所以在此提醒同学们一定要引起足够的重视，不要因为觉得自己英语还不错就把雅思考试拖到很后面，否则很
有可能追悔莫及，真地真地要吸取前人血的教训啊！
当然，也不是说雅思考不到要求就一定去不了该校了。大部分学校（包括剑桥，帝国理工）都开设有自己的提前语言班课程（即pre-sessional course）。一般雅思单科或者均分差个0.5分，读这个提前语言班课程（4-5周左右）就能抵消那个半分的不足。所以，如果觉得自己实在考不到雅思要求的同学也可以选择这个Plan B。但是一定要记得尽早申请，因为这些热门的语言班课程往往6月底这样就都截止了。
有志于申请美国的同学，更加需要在托福考试上多下功夫。总分上，100分是个坎儿；单科上，口语24分是个坎儿。许多优秀的美国院校(如雪城，凯斯西储)会直接卡掉未达到这两个标准的申请者。所以想去美国的同学，托福上请务必努力。
3.戒骄戒躁，放平心态
戒骄：也许你的分数已经在本校的专业里排名很Top了，但是，请不要忘记你是在跟全球所有的申请者在竞争。尤其是在申请顶级名校的时候，大把大把的高分选手，一群一群的职场人士，全都为了站上最高领奖台而拼个“你死我活”，留学申请，那就是一场没有硝烟的战争。如果,你不幸地变成了台下的那个分母，请不要灰心，请不要气馁，也许，是你的准备还不够充分，也许，是对手过于强大，也许，是裁判的问题„„
戒躁：申请前，要尽量好好准备自己的申请材料，不要为了赶那个所谓的申请开放日而不惜牺牲材料质量。相信我们，质量远比赶时间重要。尤其是申请顶尖名校，晚于申请开放日一个多月递交，也是非常正常的事情。当然啦，如果你能在大三暑假期间就把大部分材料都能保质保量地准备完成，那无疑是最好的。
申请递交之后，也要注意放平心态，不要才过两三周就开始进入女性更年期状态。说实在的，那些在一个月内发来的申请结果，往往都是拒信„大部分学校给offer的时间，基本都需要6-8周，最好的那批学校，拖个3,4个月也是很正常的。所以，有句英语俗话说的还是很对的，No news is good news！
4.学会定位，切忌海投
有部分同学缺乏对自己的合理定位，因此申请的时候处于比较盲目的状态，往往一申就申个十几所。留学申请是一个比较耗费时间和精力的过程，如此海申，只会分散自己的精力，到最后很有可能造成应接不暇的情况。假如你是一位高分选手，也如此海申的话，还是比较伤RP的，因为可能其中很多学校，你申到了也不会去，只是白白地把别的同学位置占掉了。其实，只要合理定位和选校，一般申请5-6所就已经足够了。
5.社团和实习经历对申请的帮助
我们一直在建议同学们能多参加一点社团活动，多在暑假找一些实习机会。那么，这些经历到底有多重要呢？海阔天高在2011-2012成功帮助一位大三均分62分，大四上学期均分65分的同学成功申请到了LSE的两年制管理学专业。在学术分数不是很占优势的前提下，我们认为该同学书友会会长的leadership经历，对于申请管理学还是非常有裨益的。另外，我们还帮助了一位大三68分的FAM同学成功申请到了LSE的管理科学和运筹学研究专业，并且拿到的是con了二等上offer。而据我们所知，大部分拿到该专业offer的同学，都被con了一等的学位。该同学的均分跟其他高分同学比起来还是有一定差距，然后又没有GMAT成绩，她的亮点在于有过中信证券和国泰君安两个公司的实习经历，然后在实习的过程中接触到了很多跟运筹学有关联的商业财务软件，因此在PS的写作上就能突出自己对于运筹学的了解与钟爱。
6.All about 推荐信
首先，大部分的中国院校，往往都是学生自己写好推荐信，跟老师知会一声签个名就行。而UNNC不同，几乎所有的老师都是要求自己亲自执笔，而且基本是连看都不让你看过，所以推荐信的内容就变得不那么可控了。
其次，因为僧多粥少，好粥更少，怕好粥被疯抢，所以UNNC现在采用的是推荐人分配制度，凭运气，分配到哪个老师就是哪个老师。如果被分配到的老师完全不认识你，那也是很正常的。但是我们说，规矩是死的，人是活的。前文也已经提过在前三年的学习中要尽量跟老师搞好关系，弄弄熟络。如果跟某老师关系已经很不错了，再加上你的成绩也蛮好的话，那应该还是有可能请求那位非分配老师赐一封推荐信的。不过总体而言，UNNC大多数老师的推荐信的Level都差不多（除去少许大牛人物，比如YANG FUJIA），所以大家不需要在这里过于纠结钻牛角尖。一般来说，如果要在title和对你的熟悉度里面两者选一的话，还是以熟悉度为先，当然最好你的推荐人能至少有一个Dr.的头衔。
7.突出自身优势，可以适当“不走寻常路”
申请英语国家院校的清单与流程，其实可谓大同小异：PS,CV，推荐信，Open Questions, 最多加上面试等等。除了尽可能准备好这些内容，对于某些特点非常突出的同学，可以适当的另辟蹊径。比如海阔天高曾经有一位学员，本科学习英文，研究生想转读中国文学。我们就精心把这位同学自己平时写的诗歌、散文等编纂整理之后一同发给学校，终于喜获通知书。今年有一位IS同学希望冲刺牛津大学，在传统的申请材料之外，我们指导她认真准备了一份针对牛津大学专业的Research Proposal。这一不属于学校官方要求的额外材料成为了该同学被最终录取的重要砝码。当然，此类材料的准备需要经过深思熟虑，务必切中申请专业的主题，同时应该专注于质量而非数量，否则很有可能适得其反。听说曾经有申请者将自己的申请资料满满的编篡成一本书寄给学校，结果很快就被拒了。其实换位思考一下，如果你是主审官，每天已经要看几十篇PS,又收到一堆和主题不符合的申请资料，自然是很容易产生反感的。所以每个同学的情况还是需要具体案例具体分析，欢迎同学们联系我们详细讨论。
8.大三成绩不理想同学的出路
在咨询过程中，我们也经常会遇到一些大三成绩不是很理想的同学（比如未到60分的同学）。对于这部分同学，一般我们的建议是，可以在大四开学的时候申请一些2:2的专业保底。如果大四上学期的成绩有较大突破的话，可以再冲刺一些2:1的学校和专业。有些同学可能会说，没事的，我大四开学就不申了，直接大四上考完再申。但是我们说，天有不测风云，人有旦夕祸福，没有人有100%的把握一定能把大四上的成绩提高。相反，我们已经遇到好多高分选手大四上翻船的情况了。所以，如果你无论如何是想去读研的话，建议还是采取保守点的策略。
9.2+2理工科类同学的优势
2+2理工科专业的同学，申请名校成功的可能性相对UNNC 4+0的同学较高。一来本部理工科专业的分数都比较给力，70+往往是大把大把的，“人口基数”也比UNNC的商科专业要少，“内耗”不会太严重。二来从目前来说，理工类的研究型硕士和金融、管理类专业相比还是后者更加热门，申请难度也是后者更高。像剑桥，帝国理工，UCL还有美国大多数院校都开有很多适合理工科学生继续深造的专业。海阔天高到目前为止总共帮助过20位AEE，CS/CSM和CE的同学申请，其中有4人进了剑桥，9人进了帝国理工，3人进了UCL，1人进了香港大学，1人进了香港科技。可以说，每个同学的归宿都很棒，海高也积累了不少此类专业申请经验。
值得一提的是，2+2的同学如果想在研究生申请时转读商科类课程也是可以的。作为海阔天高的强项，我们曾经帮助一位AEE的同学和一位CE的同学申请到了剑桥的MPhil Management, 另外也有帮助过CSM的同学申进美国排名25的维克森林大学的MA Management。今年我们还有帮助学员成功申请到剑桥大学的经济学项目以及帝国理工的金融硕士课程。并不想一路理工科学到底的同学，可以作为参考。
