The thought Matilda bring to me----My different views about Matilda in The Necklace and the analysis of some

present social phenomena

The Necklace is a short story, written by Maupassant, which was built around simple episodes from the human life of every day.However, after reading it a second time, I get the different sentiment.This time, I deeply analyses the character who was criticized because of the so-called vanity and think over a series of social facts occurred recently.This article tells a woman named Matilda who was full of vanity.In order to catch others’ eyes and be the highlight at the banquet, she deliberately borrowed a diamond necklace from her girlfriend.When she appeared at the banquet wearing the diamond necklace, she received praise and flattery of the people, her vanity has been greatly satisfied.Unfortunately, the way home, this necklace was missing.For this compensation of the value of 36,000 francs diamond necklace, she scrimped and saved to pay off the heavy debt.While, when she met her friend again, she was told that the missing necklace is false.This is the ironic part of this article.For this story, many people hasten to show their disapproval and probably take it to be a reflection of the Matilda ' vanity and superficiality.And they may lecture her on the ill-advised approach to show the virtue of being thrifty.Even they hold a view that she should suffer and abide by the consequences.They condemn this personality filled with vanity.That also was my thought after first reading the article.While，with my growing up , When I read the story a second time in the background of social practical condition , something in-depth can be obtain form the other hand.Firstly,” The love of beauty is common to all," In real life, as a beautiful young lady, pursuing the beauty and praise is worth understanding.To think of ourselves in practice, when we are invited to a party, we also make up and wear the most satisfying clothes or some headgears and so on.What we did all is to make ourselves be charming in this party.The only difference is that we don’t encounter the unfortunate matter.So, if we ignore the chief clou that the story tried to convey and view form the practical situation, it seems too reasonable.So, I think, we should also give Matilda some sympathy and forgiveness except many condemnations of her action.爱美之心人皆有之。

Secondly, although Matilda was vainglorious, when she face with the precipitate doom, she didn’t flee or cheat her friend, in order to make up this mistake, she borrowed money form others and bought a real diamond necklace for her friend, she kept her promise and returned the necklace next day on time.Seen form these things she did, she was a kind, pure-hearted and faithful woman.While，considering some people in the real society，to obtain or protect their own interest and benefit form being harming , they escape from their mistakes and misdeed irresponsibly.And even break from their friends and relatives.Such as the smuggler, Lai changxing, is in Xiamen, Fujian province.the director general, Wen qiang, is in Chongqing.Therefore, this is the saving grace of Matilda.真诚。敢于承担责任。

Thirdly, as to the heavy debt resulting from the borrowing the diamond necklace, she spend a full decade to pay it without any unreasonable ways.Ten years, for a woman, is valuable to enjoy a happy and comfortable life rather than living a miserable and indebted life.During this process, I think, few of persons can persist to the end.Nowadays, there is a tendency in our society that more and more young women want to live a rich life without any hard efforts, so they tend to choose the moneybags or moguls with various methods in spite of these men are much older than them and even these men have their own family.This kind of women is disgustful.Part reason of this way of living, I think, proceeds from vanity.“Keeping up with the Joneses” is the common conviction.Compared with these women, Matilda should be respected rather than be animadverted as a typical vain person.Last but by no means the least，about the vanity, I beg to differ.In conventional parlance, vanity is portray as a negative aspect of the human nature, many people indeed possess this special ability and are proud of it.Vanity derives from one's greed;it had people buying, earning and even robbing flashy items to decorate themselves so as to attract attention from the crowd.Although we all agree that vanity could have many fallen into the bottomless pit of greed, there are helpful aspects of this intrinsic evil that could not be ignore.Someone with a heart full of vanity could work really hard to get the attention he wants and the things on his wish list.Therefore, the nature of vanity could be more than what we though it could be.Please remember that the character shapes one’s fortune and the destiny really makes fun of people.Keep everything in moderation.Otherwise, fall into abysm
