Good morning, everyone!

I am Ma Haidong of the 2 class of martial arts science. It is a great honor to stand here, representing the 20xx graduates of the Institute of animal science and technology, to say goodbye to our alma mater, to teach our teachers tirelessly, to say goodbye to the classmates at sunset, and to say goodbye to this unforgettable time. First of all, let me, on behalf of all the graduates, express our heartfelt thanks and respect to all the leaders and teachers who have worked hard.

Four years, more than 1400 days and nights, it sounds so long, and when we face today, we feel that it is so short. Some people say that time is a book that is too hasty. Now when it hastily passes, these more than 1400 nights carry too many memories. I cant forget the freshness and confusion when I entered the school. I cant forget the figure of my learning building in the teaching building. I cant forget the laughter and laughter of your bedroom, and I cant forget you and me on the sports field. We will say goodbye to the students who get along with each other, say goodbye to the teacher, bid farewell to the beautiful picturesque campus, and step on a new journey. david brooks writes today that there are large class differences in parenting styles. these different parent styles may explain the continued success of the upper class. hey, this fits in very well into the parenting theme week at 11d. thanks, davey. (and thanks, jeremy, for the early morning e-mail.)

david picks up on the work of annette lareau who finds that although working class children are more innocent and enjoy more freedom, they havent been prepared for economic success as well as upper class kids. (i have copied the whole article below the flap. take that, times select)

the funny thing about academics is that although they are highly educated, they are poorly paid. they are socio-economic anomalies. they either reside as the poor shlubs in wealthy neighborhoods or as the weirdoes in working class towns. we’ve been the class outsiders for my whole life, and i’ve had the chance to observe both life styles closely.

there are huge differences between the parenting styles between the upper and working class families. poor families respond less quickly to learning problems and are less aggressive with the school bureaucracy. they are less likely to verbally interact with their kids. they are less involved in homework activities. middle and upper class parents are more likely to reward independent thinking. all those factors will definitely impact on their kids’ futures.

but i hope that brooks and his pet academic aren’t insinuating that parenting styles alone impact on a child’s economic success. way too many other factors there. poor families are also likely to live in towns with poorer schools. peers will be more troubled. the poor families will be coping with a variety of problems that make it hard to be good parents – financial stress, drug and alcohol problems, lack of health care, depression. and really smart kids can in many instances over come all that and succeed, though even the smart ones still face obstacles. i would love to know if the researchers controlled for all that.

these parenting differences also don’t negate our obligation to helping these groups reach their potential.

that said, i’m sure that parenting styles are one factor among many that determine a child’s socio-economic future. my kid is already on such a different path from some of his buddies from school. at six years old, their futures are already written on their faces.

what i would like to do is to take the best parts of both parenting practices. somehow combine the respect for adults, the freedom, and the innocence of working class homes with the value for education, the aggressive independence, and confidence of the upper class. it’s a tricky line to navigate, but that’s what i’m going for.

4 years seems very long but 4 years seems very short. from now on, we all will go into the society. the society is broad and wide for us. we will shoulder heavy responsibilities; we will work diligently; and we will expect to be informed of good news from one another. now, i beg you all to cherish the occasion; to remember the names, the status, appearance and the character of the person around you. now let’s be hand in hand together; let’s present the rose to each other. may the rose carry our appreciation and blessing! we are very closely linked no matter what the world may be. may the fresh rose in our hands keep its fragrants!

Cutting through complexity to find a solution runs through four predictable stages: determine a goal, find the highest-leverage approach, discover the ideal technology for that approach, and in the meantime, make the smartest application of the technology that you already have — whether it’s something sophisticated, like a drug, or something simpler, like a bednet.

The AIDS epidemic offers an example. The broad goal, of course, is to end the disease. The highest-leverage approach is prevention. The ideal technology would be a vaccine that gives lifetime immunity with a single dose. So governments, drug companies, and foundations fund vaccine research. But their work is likely to take more than a decade, so in the meantime, we have to work with what we have in hand – and the best prevention approach we have now is getting people to avoid risky behavior.

Pursuing that goal starts the four-step cycle again. This is the pattern. The crucial thing is to never stop thinking and working – and never do what we did with malaria and tuberculosis in the 20th century – which is to surrender to complexity and quit.

The final step – after seeing the problem and finding an approach – is to measure the impact of your work and share your successes and failures so that others learn from your efforts.

You have to have the statistics, of course. You have to be able to show that a program is vaccinating millions more children. You have to be able to show a decline in the number of children dying from these diseases. This is essential not just to improve the program, but also to help draw more investment from business and government.

But if you want to inspire people to participate, you have to show more than numbers; you have to convey the human impact of the work – so people can feel what saving a life means to the families affected.

I remember going to Davos some years back and sitting on a global health panel that was discussing ways to save millions of lives. Millions! Think of the thrill of saving just one persons life – then multiply that by millions. … Yet this was the most boring panel Ive ever been on – ever. So boring even I couldnt bear it.

What made that experience especially striking was that I had just come from an event where we were introducing version 13 of some piece of software, and we had people jumping and shouting with excitement. I love getting people excited about software – but why cant we generate even more excitement for saving lives?

You cant get people excited unless you can help them see and feel the impact. And how you do that – is a complex question.

Still, Im optimistic. Yes, inequity has been with us forever, but the new tools we have to cut through complexity have not been with us forever. They are new – they can help us make the most of our caring – and thats why the future can be different from the past.

The defining and ongoing innovations of this age – biotechnology, the computer, the Internet – give us a chance we’ve never had before to end extreme poverty and end death from preventable disease.

Sixty years ago, George Marshall came to this commencement and announced a plan to assist the nations of post-war Europe. He said: “I think one difficulty is that the problem is one of such enormous complexity that the very mass of facts presented to the public by press and radio make it exceedingly difficult for the man in the street to reach a clear appraisement of the situation. It is virtually impossible at this distance to grasp at all the real significance of the situation.”

Thirty years after Marshall made his address, as my class graduated without me, technology was emerging that would make the world smaller, more open, more visible, less distant.

The emergence of low-cost personal computers gave rise to a powerful network that has transformed opportunities for learning and communicating.

The magical thing about this network is not just that it collapses distance and makes everyone your neighbor. It also dramatically increases the number of brilliant minds we can have working together on the same problem – and that scales up the rate of innovation to a staggering degree.

At the same time, for every person in the world who has access to this technology, five people dont. That means many creative minds are left out of this discussion -- smart people with practical intelligence and relevant experience who dont have the technology to hone their talents or contribute their ideas to the world.

We need as many people as possible to have access to this technology, because these advances are triggering a revolution in what human beings can do for one another. They are making it possible not just for national governments, but for universities, corporations, smaller organizations, and even individuals to see problems, see approaches, and measure the impact of their efforts to address the hunger, poverty, and desperation George Marshall spoke of 60 years ago.

Members of the Harvard Family: Here in the Yard is one of the great collections of intellectual talent in the world.

What for?

There is no question that the faculty, the alumni, the students, and the benefactors of Harvard have used their power to improve the lives of people here and around the world. But can we do more? Can Harvard dedicate its intellect to improving the lives of people who will never even hear its name?

Let me make a request of the deans and the professors – the intellectual leaders here at Harvard: As you hire new faculty, award tenure, review curriculum, and determine degree requirements, please ask yourselves:

Should our best minds be dedicated to solving our biggest problems?

Should Harvard encourage its faculty to take on the worlds worst inequities? Should Harvard students learn about the depth of global poverty … the prevalence of world hunger … the scarcity of clean water …the girls kept out of school … the children who die from diseases we can cure?

Should the worlds most privileged people learn about the lives of the worlds least privileged?

These are not rhetorical questions – you will answer with your policies.

My mother, who was filled with pride the day I was admitted here – never stopped pressing me to do more for others. A few days before my wedding, she hosted a bridal event, at which she read aloud a letter about marriage that she had written to Melinda. My mother was very ill with cancer at the time, but she saw one more opportunity to deliver her message, and at the close of the letter she said: “From those to whom much is given, much is expected.”

When you consider what those of us here in this Yard have been given – in talent, privilege, and opportunity – there is almost no limit to what the world has a right to expect from us.

In line with the promise of this age, I want to exhort each of the graduates here to take on an issue – a complex problem, a deep inequity, and become a specialist on it. If you make it the focus of your career, that would be phenomenal. But you dont have to do that to make an impact. For a few hours every week, you can use the growing power of the Internet to get informed, find others with the same interests, see the barriers, and find ways to cut through them.

Dont let complexity stop you. Be activists. Take on the big inequities. It will be one of the great experiences of your lives.

You graduates are coming of age in an amazing time. As you leave Harvard, you have technology that members of my class never had. You have awareness of global inequity, which we did not have. And with that awareness, you likely also have an informed conscience that will torment you if you abandon these people whose lives you could change with very little effort. You have more than we had; you must start sooner, and carry on longer.

Knowing what you know, how could you not?

And I hope you will come back here to Harvard 30 years from now and reflect on what you have done with your talent and your energy. I hope you will judge yourselves not on your professional accomplishments alone, but also on how well you have addressed the worlds deepest inequities … on how well you treated people a world away who have nothing in common with you but their humanity.

i am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world.i never graduated from college.truth be told, this is the closest i've ever gotten to a college graduation.today i want to tell you three stories from my life.that's it.no big deal.just three stories.the first story is about connecting the dots.i dropped out of reed college after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before i really quit.so why did i drop out?

it started before i was born.my biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption.she felt very strongly that i should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife.except that when i popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl.so my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: “we have an unexpected baby boy;do you want him?” they said: “of course.” my biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school.she refused to sign the final adoption papers.she only relented a few months later when my parents promised that i would someday go to college.and 17 years later i did go to college.but i naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition.after six months, i couldn't see the value in it.i had no idea what i wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out.and here i was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life.so i decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out ok.it was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions i ever made.the minute i dropped out i could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.it wasn't all romantic.i didn't have a dorm room, so i slept on the floor in friends' rooms, i returned coke bottles for the 5 deposits to buy food with, and i would walk the 7 miles across town every sunday night to get one good meal a week at the hare krishna temple.i loved it.and much of what i stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on.let me give you one example: reed college at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country.throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed.because i had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, i decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this.i learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great.it was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and i found it fascinating.none of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life.but ten years later, when we were designing the first macintosh computer, it all came back to me.and we designed it all into the mac.it was the first computer with beautiful typography.if i had never dropped in on that single course in college, the mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts.and since windows just copied the mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them.if i had never dropped out, i would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do.of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when i was in college.but it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.again, you can't connect the dots looking forward;you can only connect them looking backwards.so you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.you have to trust in somethingthe macintoshthat i had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me.i met with david packard and bob noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly.i was a very public failure, and i even thought about running away from the valley.but something slowly began to dawn on me – i still loved what i did.the turn of events at apple had not changed that one bit.i had been rejected, but i was still in love.and so i decided to start over.i didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.the heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything.it freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.during the next five years, i started a company named next, another company named pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife.pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, toy story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world.in a remarkable turn of events, apple bought next, i retuned to apple, and the technology we developed at next is at the heart of apple's current renaissance.and laurene and i have a wonderful family together.i'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if i hadn't been fired from apple.it was awful tasting medicine, but i guess the patient needed it.sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick.don't lose faith.i'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that i loved what i did.you've got to find what you love.and that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.and the only way to do great work is to love what you do.if you haven't found it yet, keep looking.don't settle.as with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.and, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.so keep looking until you find it.don't settle.my third story is about death.when i was 17, i read a quote that went something like: “if you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right.” it made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, i have looked in the 作为一名语文老师，我想在此和大家说说学习语文的重要性。语文不但是人们在日常生活中交流的基本工具，而且是进行一切学术研究的基础。对此，我国著名数学家华罗庚和苏步青的观点非常有说服力。华罗庚认为：“要打好基础，不管学文科学理科，都要学好语文。因为语文天生就重要。不会说话，不会写文章，行之不远，存之不久。”苏步青曾说：“如果允许复旦大学单独招生，我的意见是第一堂先考语文，考后就改试卷。不合格的，其他的科目就不必考了。语文你都不行，别的是学不通的。”

我再给大家打一个比方：语文对于其他学科来说，就像跑步对于整个体育运动一样。表面上看，跑步往往给人简单、含金量不高的印象，似乎并不需要太多的技巧，不像足球、篮球那样精彩，也不如体操、跳水那样专业。但实际上，跑步对体能和技巧都有很高的要求，并且是其他体育运动得以进行和出色表现的关键。说白了，跑步跑不好，足球、篮球你抢不过人家，跑步跑不好，体操、跳水你没有爆发力。所以，跑步是整个体育运动的基础，语文是所有学科的基础。可见学好语文是多么的重要！

我是六（一）班朱仲恒的妈妈，非常荣幸能在这里代表学生家长发言。今天对于我们所有的人，都是个意义非凡的日子。看着孩子们的一张张笑脸，一下子让我想起六年前，20xx年9月1日，记得那个早晨，我把朱仲恒送进附小这个陌生的校园，他那时是那么幼小、稚嫩，而且胳膊还骨折了，对未来的学校生活既好奇，又忐忑，我的心情也是既高兴，又担心。光阴似箭，六年时间转瞬即逝，六年前的稚嫩的小树苗，在各位老师的精心呵护下一天天茁壮成长了，已经长成了一棵棵生机勃勃的小树。看，他们朝气蓬勃，风华正茂，对未来满怀信心，充满希望。

六年来，作为家长，我们密切关注着孩子们的每一点成长，每一点变化，每一个进步，我们看到孩子们，告别了天真，走向了沉稳；脱去了稚气，获得了自信；抛弃了依赖，学会了选择，懂得了自尊、自立、自强。

在为孩子的健康成长感到欣慰的同时，我更想说的是要衷心感谢学校和老师，在这六年里，你们的辛苦与无私的奉献，我们有目共睹。我们的郭明苹老师、孔素莲老师陪伴了孩子们六年，蒋玲老师、周丹红老师、周国强老师带领孩子们在语文的王国里遨游，朱扬丹老师、钱云月老师帮助孩子们认识了神奇的ABC，还有刘平老师、皮庆媛校长、陶筱青校长、牛金娟老师、郭佳老师、李琦老师、储老师，你们不仅引导孩子们在知识的海洋中汲取养分，更教给孩子们做人的道理，让他们明善恶、辨是非，关心他们的身心健康，让孩子既成才，更成人。

学校的各项课外活动，元宵的灯会与猜谜、运动会、春秋游、歌咏比赛、拔河跳绳比赛、跳蚤市场、参观部队、参加电视节目的录制、红领巾电视台的编演、外出采访，丰富的课外活动，让孩子们更聪明、更乐观、更团结、更自信。

我同样要感谢我们的孩子们。这六年，对你们来说，是非常不容易的六年。你们原本懵懵懂懂，现在学习了那么多的知识，懂得了那么多的道理；你们原本是家里的小太阳，现在学会了集体生活，学会了结交朋友。你们有快乐，也有烦恼；受到过表扬，也受到过批评；经历过成功，也体验过失败。我相信，你们每一个人都品尝过各种各样的酸甜苦辣。无论学习成绩如何，你们每一个人都是优秀的、成功的，因为你们都已经变得更加独立，更有思想，更加强壮。所以，衷心感谢你们的勤奋和努力。

再过两个月，你们就要跨入中学了，从此开始人生的另一段新篇章。我的心情就像六年前一样，又一次充满了期待，也有些许的紧张，但我知道，你们已经不再是那时的你们了，你们长大了，能够面对任何挑战。我相信你们能做到：今天我以附小为荣，明天附小以我为荣。

今天是个喜庆的日子，阳光灿烂，天人感应。现在，我要送君送到南大门外，有句话儿要交代。

我在开学典礼上讲过话，那场合的心情是收获的兴高采烈。毕业送行是什么心情呢?十分复杂，百感交集。如同送女儿出嫁，有各得其所的欣慰，依依不舍的亲情;还有学生出师的如释重负，有儿行千里的母担忧，还有开闸放水的畅快、送部队出征的激昂。总之，悲悲喜喜那都是老师们的事，诸君只管满怀豪情地出发吧!

走出校门，海阔天空，有千千万万的门等你。有写字楼门，工厂门，机关门，军营门，国门都是敞开的。一切刚刚开始，一切都有可能。

社会是比较复杂的，必须勇敢面对。如同从温室里移到大田，风吹雨打日晒，躲不过去，谁也替不了你。就业、创业是一个新世界，很有挑战性。当然也很累，累了可以躺平歇会，可不敢一直躺平啊!躺的了初一，躺不到十五!我相信各位同学是不会躺平的，刚刚开闸放出的水，正是新一波的后浪。

社会是比较复杂的，建议简单应对。简单不是单纯，“以不变应万变”就是简单，“有所为有所不为”就是简单，“不忘初心”就是简单，“一根筋”就是简单。“天下本无事，庸人自扰之”，我们当然不是庸人。我喜欢把复杂的事情简单化，结果，许多复杂的事情真的就简单了。长期以来我业余自费琢磨两个问题，一是长寿的秘诀，二是成功的秘诀。我破解了。破解以后，其实很简单。长寿秘诀就是生活规律;成功秘诀就是坚持不懈。成功有时不需要精明，更依赖坚持，稳重坚守就是成功。

大学毕业，您就不是平民了。因为，带上学位帽，您就是士人了，就是知识分子了;因为，在八朝古都、百年老校受过高等教育，您有了人文情怀，或者说应当有人文情怀。什么叫人文情怀?有畏惧心，有羞耻感，有良知，有天下情怀，能够承担社会的责任和痛苦，有独立思考能力。无论作为知识分子还是老板，千万不要泯灭与生俱来的善良，不要丢掉藏在心底的纯真，因为，那是作为人的基因和理由。纯真辟油腻，善良辟什么呢?善良辟邪!

我小的时候喜欢上房，年轻时常常登山，现在能上树。忘不了在泰山顶上俯瞰泰安城，感到那些高楼大厦很渺小，感到那些滚滚红尘很无聊--我超脱了。换个角度看人生，能够得到更新，加油。我的意思是，各位前程远大，见识不凡，玉树临风，理应高瞻远瞩，不会汲汲于眼前的蝇头小利，追求的是大目标。河大铁塔牌的学生有个特点，那就是慢热型，有后劲!让我们微笑着仰望近几年的暴发户，不急不燥不泄气，积蓄力量，伺机发力。我们总是笑到最后的人。

昨天晚上，我梦见了祖籍开封、在开封讲学，收了程颢程颐为学生的张载，委托我给大家赠送四句话：“为天地立心，为生民立命，为往圣继绝学，为万世开太平。”他的宋代口音是不是很难听懂?好吧，我用当代话重复一遍，那就是：探讨自然与社会的基本规律，为民众摸索出一条共同遵行的大道，继承优良的传统文化，为后世开辟永久太平的基业。概括而言，就是探索精神，担当精神，奉献精神，使命精神。很高大上吗?不，这只是读书人本份而已。

俗话说：师傅领进门，修行靠个人。今天我要加上一句：师傅送出门，母校伴终身!人生路上，母校已经给各位交纳了首付，以后房贷的月供就靠自己了，努力工作，多多挣钱是必须的，实在不行了，回来充充电(值)。我当然希望看到你们成功、发财，更希望看到你们高兴，哪怕是傻高兴。

大家早上好！

今天我踏上校车时，突然意识到这将是我作为小学生，最后一次乘搭沪江维多利亚学校（VSA）的校车了。校巴上一如既往熙熙攘攘。同学们有的叽叽喳喳说笑，有的窃窃私语，还有的讨论著学社之间的竞争。我的心情既不舍又激动。我不舍得离开可爱可亲的老师们，不舍得离开帮助我、包容我的同学，不舍得总是在耳边叮嘱我们“善待他人，善待自己”的校长。

三年前，我首次踏上VSA的校车时，紧张得心都绞成一团。那时候，我刚刚从上海转学到香港。我很担心只会说普通话的自己在新学校找不到朋友，我很担心会在偌大的校园里迷路，我很担心不能跟上繁体字的教学。后来我才发现，这些担心都是多余的。VSA非常尊重不同的文化，要求学生了解文化的差异，鼓励我们和不同文化的人进行交流。在这种文化融合的气氛下，我不仅很快适应了新的生活，还成为了学社的社长，圆满完成了小学学习。今天我要借这个机会来感谢校长、老师和同学们。

在攀登科学险峰的道路上，我们必定会经历重重困难。有的困难可能让我们迷失方向，有的困难可能会像巨石一样把我们压得喘不过气来，有的困难甚至看起来永远无法逾越。那个时候，请想一想老师教导我们如何运用成长性思维吧！正面对待问题，关注自己可以影响的部分，一步一步坚持往前走，总会穿过黑暗，走向光明。当取得暂时的成就时，我们应该把目光放得更远，更高。学海无涯，科学的探索和真理的追寻是没有尽头的。

我们的世界面对着很多的挑战，小问题有我们身边的孩子无法得到好的教育、学校旁边的海滩受到塑胶污染等等，大问题有全球变暖、水污染和贫富差距悬殊等。我们学到的知识，都是用来回馈世界的。不积跬步，无以至千里；不积小流，无以成江海。同学们，不要等待明天才开始你的善行，让我们从小事开始，关心我们的社区，服务身边有需要的人，践行服务世界的使命。

与厦大结缘始于XX年，除去一年的工作时间，厦大始终是我生活的重心。六年的厦大学习时光沉淀了太多值得回味的故事和情景，忘不了那绚烂至极的凤凰花，忘不了那沁心幽远的芙蓉湖，更忘不了行走在树下、湖畔的身影。这其中，有你也有我。我们或在忙碌紧张地准备着实验，或在进进出出翻阅着资料，或在实验室、食堂和宿舍之间来回穿梭……我们流过眼泪，却伴着欢笑，我们踏过荆棘，也收获硕果。老师们的谆谆教诲、同学间的无私帮助，让我们在“自强不息，止于至善”校训的浸润下不断成长。

在厦大的六年，作为一名理科生，我亲身感受到了厦大自然科学的发展与壮大，见证了本部楼群的焕然一新，我们的实验设备越来越先进，我们的学习环境越来越优越。从最初院系之间的各自为政到现今大学部的形成，从最初南方之强的地位到现今向世界知名研究型大学迈进的目标。我们欣喜不已，我们责任在肩。

自然科学贵在探索，但我们从未止步于探索。芙蓉湖畔我们悉心聆听大师的谆谆教导，白城边上我们共同探讨自然科学的奥妙。我们注重理论探索，我们也注重实际应用；我们关心实验结果，我们更关心地球和生命。

自然科学重在踏实，但我们从未囿于象牙塔的围墙。从微小的粒子到浩瀚的宇宙，都是我们研究的对象；从实验室到大洋科考船，都能看到我们的身影。学校、学院举办的各类区域性、国际性的学术会议和论坛不仅极大地开阔了我们的视野，更为我们提供了宽广的交流平台。

同学们，今天你们毕业了，这是你们人生中最重要的时刻之一。对我而言，今年也是一个非常特殊的年份，作为改革开放后的第一届大学生，今年恰逢高考恢复40周年，非常荣幸作为那届考生和今天的校长站在这里，为毕业生同学们送上祝福。此时此刻，你们充满自信与期待的眼神，使我不由想起你们刚入校时的青涩与懵懂。你们的成长、成熟，正是大学生活赋予你们的最宝贵的财富。这也使我想起40年来，自己在这所学校学习、工作所经历的成长与变化，想起在一代代交大毕业生身上所彰显的品质和精神。

所以，我想在今天这个特殊的时刻，与大家聊一聊「初心」这个话题，希望对你们的未来有所帮助与启发。

于学校而言，初心就是恪守大学之道、培养一流人才、建设世界一流大学。一个多世纪以前，我们的母校为培养“铁路救国”的管理人才而诞生，1的时间里，虽然校名屡经更迭、校址多次变迁，但学校办学从未中断，一批又一批和你们一样的优秀学子从母校走向社会，成为国之栋梁与骨干。去年，我们共同分享了学校120周年华诞的荣光与喜悦，见证了历经三个世纪交大精神的传承与创新，希望这些能成为你们大学生涯中永恒的记忆。

于我而言，初心就是忠诚教育科研事业，为国家、行业发展贡献力量。40年前，恢复高考的春风使我幸运地成为了学校1977级的一名新生。当我第一次走进红果园，迎面而来的是一条横幅——“欢迎你，铁路事业未来的建设者”。这句话深深印入了我的脑海。此后，无论是读书、科研还是走上学校管理者的岗位，母校的期望始终激励着我，矢志不渝地奋战在科技创新和教书育人的战场。

那么，同学们，你们有没有认真思考过，你们的初心是什么呢？当经历了这几年大学生活的洗礼，你们的初心是否发生了改变？从今往后，当身处社会，面对比大学校园复杂百倍的环境、严峻百倍的挑战，你们又能否不忘初心、继续前行呢？

也许你们会有疑问，什么才是自己的初心？那就让我们一起来回忆以往的岁月：

初心，源于追逐梦想的决心

数年前，你们意气风发地开启大学生涯，心中一定充满梦想与期待——有读书报国的宏大志向，有出人头地的自我期许，有成家立业的现实想法，有“读万卷书行万里路”的美好愿望。但是，当时光流转，你们是不是渐渐丢掉了当初的豪情壮志、开始把所有的理想信仰当成口号？你们是不是渐渐失去了奋斗意志，开始把得过且过作为日常生活的主题？

此时此刻，面对即将开启的人生新篇，希望你们能坚定自己的理想与抱负，重拾自己的激情与斗志，涵养宏大格局、树立家国情怀、强化责任担当，从行业和区域的发展、国家的进步、人类的命运来思考与谋划未来的人生。可以预见，未来的人生路一定会充满考验与挑战，你们的梦想会一次又一次看上去遥不可及，但请你们一定不要放弃，一定要保有那份追逐梦想的自信和决心。心中有梦、不断奋进，这才是北京交大人应有的人生态度。

初心，源于勤勉实干的恒心

你们初入校园时，按时上课、认真作业、坚持自习、规律作息。你们一丝不苟地焊过很多电板、测量过很多校园的路、在天桥上数过很多车，并把这些单调的实验过程作为宝贵的学习机会。但是，当时光流转，你们是不是渐渐把“容易通过”作为选课的主要标准，把“不怕查重”作为对论文的唯一要求？是不是一面在《王者荣耀》的排名中相互追赶，一面给下滑的GPA找各种理由？是不是一面在深夜的聚会中神采飞扬，一面在早晨的课堂上昏昏欲睡？

未来，你们无论是读书深造还是干事创业，都应当始终保持积极进取的心态，用坚持不懈的奋斗与拼搏创造人生价值。坚持奋斗必然会有更多的辛苦与疲累，但那绝不应该成为你们松懈和放弃的理由。“世界上只有一种真正的英雄主义,那就是在认识生活的真相后依然热爱生活。” 踏实努力、知行合一，这是校训赋予我们的宝贵品质，你们要做 “知行”校训的践行者，把北京交大人的务实品质与奋斗精神代代传承下去。

初心，源于敬畏规则的诚心

曾经，你们会因散训而日日早起，会因形教课时常关注时事，会因月考制度而养成定期复习的习惯——你们严肃并虔诚地对待这些学习、生活上的要求，是因为你们知道这是必须遵守的规则。但是，当时光流转，你们恪守原则的定力是不是越来越弱，追求捷径的愿望是不是越来越强？你们是不是已经习惯室友帮忙答到、作业东借西抄，甚至对学术道德与诚信有侥幸的心理，而忘记了这些都属于违反规则的行为？

对规则的尊重与遵守，是一个人融入社会的基础。你们经历了多年的寒窗苦读，应成为各行各业的中坚，但如果你们因一时利益的诱惑而失去原则与底线，人生前进的航向就将出现偏离。“人，生而自由，却又无往不在枷锁之中”，只有学会在规则中生存、在秩序中前行，才能真正走向成功。希望未来的人生路上，你们都能耐得住寂寞、扛得住诱惑、管得住小节，做一个堂堂正正、自省自律的交大人。

初心，源于忠于自我的真心

青春的你们，拥有张扬的个性和纯真的情感。你们会为了心爱的人在嘉园楼下大声呼喊，会为了冬天消失的明湖神兽担心不已，会因为老教授倾毕生所有设立奖学金的事迹而感动落泪，会因为社会中出现不公平、不公正现象而义愤填膺。但是，当时光流转，你们是不是渐渐收起了自己的真诚、压抑了本有的个性？你们言不由衷的话是不是越来越多，发自肺腑的笑是不是越来越少？你们是不是越来越不喜欢表达自己的观点，更乐于做一个随波逐流的“吃瓜群众”？

当你们走入社会，可能会见识更多的人情世故，可能会被岁月磨平棱角，因失败而自我怀疑。但是，你们一定要永远保持独立思考、不懈奋斗的精神，把张扬的个性转变为人格的独立与健全，把纯真的情感转化为内心的丰盈与善良，合格地扮演人生中的各种角色。“千教万教、教人求真，千学万学、学做真人”，希望你们能够在人云亦云时表达自己的不同观点，能够在人生不易时保留做人的铮铮风骨。
