A reading of THE LAST LEAF

Recently I read a short novel named The Last Leaf.This story happened between an old failed artist and two young girls who were so congenial that they became good friends and lived together.But one day, a disease called pneumonia came to the small village and one of the two girls, named Joanna, was serious ill.After she heard the bad news, she was very sad.Besides their house there is an old ivy vine.Joanna liked counting the leaves and she thought when the last leaf fell down, she would go too.Sue, another girl, found an old failed artist and told him Joanna’s thoughts.The old man was very angry about the girl’s ridiculous thoughts.One night with the heavy rains and winds outside, Joanna thought the leaves would go the next day.On the contrary, the last leaf was still in the vain.Joanna was very surprise and she even feels very guilty.At last, she knew that the last leaf was printed by the old artist and he was died because of the pneumonia.After reading this novel, I thought about many things.The following concerns my opinions.The two girls, Sue and Janna, are just like us, young and passionate.But when the troubles come, we may feel sad and hopeless, just like Janna.But we must know we are young and our whole life lies ahead of us.We should not lose the faith of life and keep ourselves with ourselves, just like the princess of sadness.There is a sentence goes like this: The most sadness person in the world is a man whose heart has already died.So no matter how hard you are, you should always keep a positive attitude.Where there is hope, there is way.The life can be hard, but we must be happy and optimistic.We can think about that if a person is a tree and the faith must be the root.Without it, how can we grow up healthily?

The old man in this novel was described as a failed artist, but in my heart he is a successful one and he has the ability to become a famous artist.Although he has no relationship with the girl, he still helped the girl to build up her confidence after knowing the bad news.The last leaf drew by the old man was the most beautiful leaf in the world.It repents a strong desire of life.The heavy wind and rain are just like the troubles around us.Although the night is full of wind and rain, the leaf can still be there.So does the life.Everybody needs the sprits, and the leaf conveys these sprits to the weak girl.Who did this? Yap, the old artist did.Printings are these things which can give people a kind of power to overcome the troubles.This is what the leaf does.Even though the old man didn’t say anything to the girl, she can feel the faith though the leaf.That’s enough.Lastly, I want to talk about the last leaf which is the title of the novel.The last leaf has already fallen down, but it still in the tree.When Joanna knew that she was serious ill, she felt helpless and wanted everything be over quickly.So she regarded herself as the tired leaves and she thought she would go with the wind just like the leaf.Actually the last leaf has fallen, but with the help of the old artist, it still is there.This leaf is not as similar as the truly leaf.It’s a kind of sprits when the life becomes harder.With the encouragement of this leaf, the girl is recovery.It tells us that when the life becomes worse, we need the leaf’s sprits to go over the bad situation.What the most important thing is the deepest faith in our heart.It is a person’s powerful heart that helps the person to overcome the troubles.
