第一篇:英语演讲比赛稿之社会责任感
Social Responsibility
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am so glad to stand here as a lecturer of English speech contest. Now I am a graduate student in college of chemistry and chemical engineering. As a citizen with a sense of social responsibility, one should mainly possess the following characters—sticking to the right moral proposal or truth;sticking to the principle of justice;hoping to make dedication and sacrifice for others.Nowadays, less and less people have a sense of social responsibility and they hardly take it into consideration. What a pity! Our country is really big, but not strong enough. As we all know, a country’s prosperity has a close relationship with people’s social responsibility. If we don’t have a strong social responsibility, how can we Chinese beat back the Japanese aggressors and liberate our country? How can we conquer natural disasters? In contrast, because of the lack of social responsibility, people are not as honest as they are once and this causes the appearance of anti-social phenomenon. In our human history, there are so many people with strong social responsibilities, from Confucius to Marx and Engels, from Einstein to Hawking. Each of them has made a great contribution to the development of society and the advance of humans. We praise those people have a strong social responsibility and we also criticize those who don’t.Nevertheless, it is better for us to take actions from our own.No matter how important the thing is, we should always do it with strong responsibility. If every citizen on the earth presents a strong social responsibility, we humans will not fight any more and our world will be more harmonious, no poverty, no starvation, and no AIDS.And if we Chinese have a patriotic sense of social responsibility, people will live more happily, our country will become stronger and receive more respects from different foreign friends. That’s all.Thank you very much.

to me march 28th was a lucky day.it was on that particular evening that i found myself at central stage, in the spotlight.winning the “21st century·ericsson cup” seventh national english speaking competition is a memory that i shall treasure and one that will surely stay.
more important than winning the cup is the friendship that has been established and developed among the contestants, and the chance to communicate offstage in addition to competing onstage.also the competition helps boost public speaking in china, a skill hitherto undervalued.for me, though, the competition is a more personal experience.habitually shy, i had been reluctant to take part in any such activities.encouraged by my friends, however, i made a last-minute decision to give it a try.in the course of preparation i somehow rediscovered myself, a truer me.i found that, after all, i like communicating with other people;that exchanging views can be so much fun—and so much rewarding, both emotionally and intellectually;that public speaking is most effective when you are least guarded;and that it is essential to success in every walk of life.at a more practical level, i realized knowing what you are going to say and how you are going to say it are equally important.to take the original ideas out of your head and transplant them, so to speak, to that of others, you need to have an organized mind.this ability improves with training.yet there should not be any loss or addition or distortion in the process.those ideas that finally find their waysintosanother head need to be recognizably yours.language is a means to transmit information, not a means to obstruct communication.it should be lucid to be penetrating.in china, certain public speaking skills have been unduly emphasized.will it really help, we are compelled to ask, to bang at the podium or yell at the top of your lungs, if you have come with a poorly organized speech, a muddled mind, and unwillingness to truly share your views?
above all, the single most important thing i learnt was that as a public speaker, you need to pay attention, first and foremost, to the content of your speech.and second, the structure of your speech: how one idea relates and progresses to another.only after these come delivery and non-verbal communication: speed control, platform manner, and so on.pronunciation is important, yet of greater importance is this: is your language competent enough to express your ideas exactly the way you intend them to be understood?
i was informed afterwards that i was chosen to be the winner for my “appropriately worded speech, excellent presence and quick-witted response”.in so remarking, the judges clearly showed their preference: they come to listen for meaningful ideas, not for loose judgments, nor easy laughters.some contestants failed to address their questions head on.some were able to, but did not knowswheresto stop—the dragging on betrayed their lack of confidence.the root cause was that they did not listen attentively to the questions.or they were thinking of what they had prepared.as i said in my speech, “it is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking...to take them [issues like globalization] on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way”.we need to respond honestly.a competition like this draws talented students from all over the country.and of course, i learnt more things than just about public speaking.since in the final analysis, public speaking is all about effective communication.and this goes true for all communications, whatever their setting.and the following is the final version of my speech:
globalization:
opportunities and challenges
for china's younger generation
thirty years ago, american president richard nixon made an epoch-making visit to china, a country still isolated at that time.premier zhou enlai said to him, “your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world—twenty-five years of no communication”.thirty years since, china and america have exchanged many handshakes.the fundamental implication of this example is that the need to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.as we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonetheless cripple the world economy, and politicians and diplomats are getting together to discuss the issue of combating terrorism.peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we are striving for all over the world.underlying this mighty trend of global communication is the echo of e.m.forster's words “only connect!”
with the it revolution, traditional boundaries of human society fall away.our culture, politics, society and commerce are being sloshedsintosone large melting pot of humanity.in this interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of the globe.we have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure.china is now actively integratingsintosthe world.our recent entry to the wto is a good example.for decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order.from a precarious role in the world arena to our present wto membership, we have come a long way.but what does the way ahead look like? in some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization.are they justified, then, in criticizing the globalizing world? instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables the developed nations to swallow the developing nations' wealth in debts and interest.globalization, they argue, should be about a common interest in every other nation's economic health.we are reminded by karl marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity.this has become a reality.multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favourable policy.they are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market and a devastating presence to local businesses.for china, still more challenges exist.how are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? how to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? how to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? and how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? globalization entails questions that concern us all.like many young people my age in china, i want to see my country get prosperous and enjoy respect in the international community.but it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough.it is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues.there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way.this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech.

梦想与现实英语演讲比赛稿
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen;when I was in the primary school, I had a dream,I want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. When I was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. And when eventually I got into the university, my dream was to graduate. How pathetic! When we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. Why? Why do we have to change our dreams, so, so in order to let it be “fulfilled”? Why do we have to surrender to the so-called “reality”? What is the reality actually? Ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real.It is barrier keeping us from all possible fantasies.Flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years.A hundred years ago, “man could not fly” was still regarded as the “reality”.Now if that was really the reality, what did the Wright brothers do? How did some of you get to Macao? Only when we believe that the reality is not real can we soar with our dreams.People say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. And if, unfortunately, Mr.Reality wins this war, then I see no future of mankind at all.AIDS will never be curable as this is the reality;People living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this is the reality;Disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance is the reality.Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? Please raise your hands.Oh, quite a number of you!Actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task.Every one of us has to make a living, right? Anyway I hope your task will be accomplished. How many of you think hat you have already fulfilled your dream and that you don’t dream anymore? Dear adjudicators, what do you think? C.S.Lewis once said, “You are never too old to dream a new dream.“So for our future, please dream and be unrealistic. Now that I am university student, my goal is to graduate with excellences. But at the same time, I have dream deeply rooted in our future. One day, people living in the areas now sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. One day, from the rich countries are willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries and those from the countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. One day , different cultures in this age of globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations among them will be eliminated. One day, the globe will share the dream with me and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. One day, our dream will defeat the reality!第一篇
Do you know what is the most precious and everlasting thing in the world ?Money? You may lose everything you have if you don't use money carefull enough.Youth? In one's long life youth is like a flash in the pan and no one in the world has the secret to keep his youth forever.Beautiful look? Many people pray that they can get hold of beauty, but it disappears far more quickly than they can imagine. And when they are in real trouble beauty itself feels helpless.A good job?As you grow older and your brain and hands can't work as fast as before. It will become other people's wealth. Then what is the most precious and everlasting thing in the world? When you are far away from your family and feel especially lonely,Who will you think of?When you stand on the crossoad in your life and don't know which way to choose, who will you think of?When you encounter greater difficulties than ever and need other's encouragement, who will you think of?When you decide to make the greatest decision in your favorite course, who shed cheerful tears when see you get achievements?Whose wholehearted blessing will be always with you no matter how far you will go? Yes,it's mother who you will always think of and it's mother's love that willbe always be with you.I once heard a moving story about a mother. Two childrens were drawn into the flood and the situations was very dangerous.Their mother jumped into the water without hesitation. But the mother couldn't swim at all.Jumping into the water means she might lose her life. But at that time she had no time to think about herself. She just wanted to try all means to save her children.Maybe her courage touched the God.The miracle happened. She finally succeeded in saving her both children. And she,of course, felt extremely exhausted. My friends, mother's love is the greatest love.Mother's love is the safest love.No matter you are happy or depressed ,rich or poor ,mother's love will always stay with you.第二篇
Good morning. In just a few days, Americans will choose who will lead our country during a time of war and economic opportunity. And the choice on Tuesday comes down to a few issues of GREat consequence. The first choice is the most important, because all our progress depends on our safety.Since September the 11th, 2001, I have led a relentless campaign against the terrorists. We have strengthened homeland security. We removed terror regimes in Afghanistan and Iraq.We are on the
My opponent has a different view.Senator Kerry says September the 11th didn''t change him much, and his policies make that clear. He says the war on terror is “primarily an intelligence and law enforcement operation.” He has proposed what he calls a “global test” that would give foreign governments a veto over American security decisions. And when our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq needed funding for body armor and bullets, Senator Kerry voted against it.the direction of the war on terror is at stake in the election of 2004.And when you go to the polls on Tuesday, remember this: I will do whatever it takes to defend America and prevail in the war on terror, and I will always support the men and women who do the fighting.the second choice in this election concerns your family budget. As a candidate, I pledged to lower taxes for families, and I have kept my word.We doubled the child tax credit, reduced the marriage penalty, and dropped the lowest tax bracket to 10 percent. Now working families keep more of their paychecks, and America''s economy is growing faster than any other among major industrialized nations. My opponent voted against all our tax relief for working families. His votes would have squeezed about $2,000 more in taxes from the average middle-class family. Now Senator Kerry is promising to increase federal spending by more than $2.2 trillion. And to pay for all that new spending, he would have to raise taxes on American families.I will keep your taxes low because I know it''s not the government''s money, it''s your family''s money.the third choice in this election involves your quality of life.As President, I signed historic education reforms to bring high standards to the classroom and make schools accountable to parents, and our children are making proGREss in reading and math. We''ve strengthened Medicare, created health savings accounts, and expanded community health centers to help more Americans get health care.I''m proposing a series of practical reforms to make health care more affordable and accessible by expanding health savings accounts, allowing association health plans, and protecting patients and doctors from junk and frivolous lawsuits. My opponent has a different approach.Senator Kerry voted for the No Child Left Behind Act, but he has pledged to weaken the accountability standards. He''s voted 10 times against medical liability reform. And now, he''s proposing a big-government health care plan that would do nothing about rising health costs, and would cause millions of Americans to lose their private health insurance and end up on government programs. Finally, this election presents a choice on the values that keep our families strong.I believe marriage is a sacred commitment, and I will always defend it.I will continue to appoint judges who strictly interpret the law.And I will keep working to move this good-hearted nation toward a culture of life.On these issues, my opponent and I are miles apart.Senator Kerry was part of an out-of-the-mainstream minority that voted against the Defense of Marriage Act.He believes there ought to be a liberal litmus test for judicial appointments. He voted against banning the brutal practice of partial birth abortion.I believe that reasonable people can find common ground on difficult issues, and I will continue reaching out and bringing Americans together to protect our deepest-held values. All of these choices make this one of the most important elections in our history. These past four years, you have seen how I do my job.Even when you might not aGREe with me, you know where I stand, what I believe, and what I intend to do.Soon, the decision will be in your hands. And however you decide, I urge you to get out and vote on Tuesday.Thank you for listening.第三篇
Mo Junhua S-U-C-C-E-S-S.SUCCESS.Success is the catch-word of the times. It goes without saying that almost all of us want to be successful.Like it or not, however, we must admit that it s not easy to achieve success.More often than not, we have to deal with its opposite, namely failure. But first of all, what is failure? It is hard to define, because dif-ferent people have different answers. However, as far as I'm con-cerned, I think real failure is not to try hard. It's commendable that you set your mind on the best and con-stantly strive for it.At many times, however, it's unlikely that you'll do the best, because of the scarcity of No.1 and because of the fact that the attainment of the very best involves many things, some of which are beyond your expectation. In addition,to your own merit, that of your competitors also plays an important part.So it is a more sensible, but no less commendable thing for you to compete with yourself, not with others. You don t have to do best. But you should always try to do your best in whatever you are determined to do.If you have given it 100 percent, you are not a failure, even though you are outplayed by others.Because you have given it 100 percent, there s nothing to regret, nor is there any need to blame yourself.Instead, you should give credit to yourself for trying.I don t like finding excuses for our failures, because we haven t failed at all.Take myself for example.Last year, I enrolled for the Sports Meet in my university and competed in the 3,000-meter race.I did this not because I m gifted in or good at running, but because I wanted to fulfill a childhood dream.I had been an in-competent student of physical education or P.E., ever since I was a primary school student. As a weak student of P.E., I never got a chance to participate in a sports meet.I envied my classmates who were good at sports.I used to dream of becoming one of them and displaying my skills in a sports meet. After I entered university, I spent much of my spare time on physical exercises, such as running, the long jump.Although I can run much faster than before, I m not capable of winning a prize or a good place in a campus-wide run-ning competition. In spite of that, I still entered for the event, be-cause I wanted to challenge myself and fulfill my athletic dream.I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not going in for this race. But I chose to accept the challenge and face the difficul-ties.I trained hard for the race, so when I came out last but one in the competition, I didn t call my attempt a failure, because I had tried and struggled.Real failure is not to try hard.“I will forgive myself if I fa;I won t forgive myself if I don't try”, because “It's better to hav fought and lost than not to fight at all”.Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic movement once said:“the most important thing in Olympic Games is not to win, but to take part, just like the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well.”But what if we did fail in something? Simple.First, don t panic, because failure is not the end of the world. As the English saying goes, he who falls today may rise tomorrow.Second, try, try again, because nothing is really over until the moment we stop try-ing.So long as we persist and never give up, we will succeed eventually. No failure is sweet. However, just as bitter medicine cures sickness, failure may prove to be very instructive, so long as we can put it in perspective. There is a saying that failure is the mother of success. It's natural for us to get depressed for a certain period of time, but we shouldn't inflate the importance of our temporary setback and be disheartened by setbacks, even never recover. We should be undaunted by failures and motivated to strive even harder to succeed.Real failure is not to try hard.It is my firm belief that one's earnest efforts will not be wasted. They will pay off either in other ways or at other times. In this sense, today's failure prepares tomorrow's triumph. At last, let's bear Goldsmith's remarks in mind:“Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but rising every time we fall。”
Thank you all!

Crossing the Sea Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. The title of my speech today is “Crossing the Sea”.An English poet by the name of Rudyard Kipling once wrote in his poem “We and They”: “All the people like us are We And everyone else is They We live over the sea While They live over the way We eat pork and beef with cowhorn-handled knives They who gobble their rice off a leaf Are horrified out of their lives.” When these lines first caught my eyes, I was shocked-how could two peoples remain so isolated and ignorant of each other in the past? Today's society, of course, is an entirely different picture. Those people who used to eat with cowhorn-handled knives might be very skillful in using chopsticks, and those people who used to gobble their rice might be as well have taken to fish and chips.Indeed, just take China as an example: Our modern life has been influenced by Western style of living in so many ways that it's no longer surprising to see teenagers going crazy about rock-and-roll, whole families dining out at McDonald's and even rather elderly people dressed in Apple Jeans. However, these are only some expressions of the cultural changes taking place in our society today. What is really going on is a subtle but significant restructuring of the nation's mentality.Just look around. How many college graduates are ready to compete aggressively for every job opportunity, whereas not long ago they were asked just to sit idle and wait for whatever was to be assigned to them by the government? How many young people are now eager to seek for an independent life whereas only two decades ago they would rely totally on their parents to arrange for their future? Ask anyone who participates in today's speech contest.Who has not come with a will to fight and who has not come determined to achieve self-fulfillment in winning the game? And I'm quite certain that if Confucius had lived to see today's China, he would have been horrified to see young lovers kissing each other in public places in an unreserved expression of their passion. It is therefore evident that we as descendants of an ancient Eastern civilization are already living under strong inf1uence of the Western culture. But it is not only in China that we find the incorporation of the two cultures.Take the United States as an example: During the 1980s,in face of the overwhelming competition from Japan, many American companies such as the Ford began to adopt a teamwork management from their rivals, the essence of which, lay at the very core of Eastern culture.Take the Chinese acupuncture as another example: This traditional treatment of diseases is finally finding its way to the West and hence the underlying notion that illness is resulted from the imbalance between Yin and Yang within the body--an idea which would strike any Westerner as incredible in the past!Ladies and Gentlemen, we live in a great epoch when the global integration of economy and the information revolution have brought cultures of the world closer than ever before. We live in a particular era when countries, East and West, find themselves in need of readjusting their traditional values. We live, at the same time, at a critical juncture of our evolution because such problems as ethnic conflicts and regional unrest are increasingly posing a threat to the peace and happiness of the whole human race.To cope with such an era and to embrace an even brighter future, we need to learn to live more harmoniously in a world community which is becoming smaller and smaller. My dear fellow students, our command of the English language renders it possible for us to gain an insight into Western culture while retaining our own cultural identity. Therefore, it is our sacred responsibility to promote the cultural exchanges and hence the mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world. It is my happiest dream that the new generation of Chinese will not only grow up drinking Coca-Cola and watching Hollywood, but also be blessed with the far-reaching benefits of multiple cultures;benefits that our forefathers had never, ever dreamed of.To end my speech, I would like to quote Rudyard Kipling again: “All the people like us are We And everyone else is They But once you cross over the sea You will end by looking on We As only a sort of They” Thank you!

Man’s life is a process of growing up, actually I’m standing here is a growth. If a person’s life must constituted by various choices, then I grow up along with these choices.Once I hope I can study in a college in future, however that’s passed, as you know I come here, now I wonder what the future holds for(= what will happen to)me.When I come to this school, I told to myself: this my near future, all starts here.Following I will learn to become a man, a integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job.Once my teacher said :” you are not sewing, you are stylist;never forget which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft.” I will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these process I will combine learning with doing. If I can achieve this “future”, I think that I really grow up.And I deeply believe kindred, good-fellowship and love will perfection and happy in the future. How to say future? Maybe it’s a nice wish.Lets make up our minds, stick to it and surely well enjoy our life 第六篇
Good evening,my honorable judges and my fellows! My name is Li Ze You,and I'm from English major 073.It's my great honor to stand here to give a speech,my topic is“Culture Smart or Science Intelligent”.To be culture smart or to be science intelligent, that would be a question. And in my representation,I will alter the“Culture Smart”to “EQ”;“Science Intelligent”to “IQ”.So,“EQ”or“IQ”,what's your opinion?
“EQ”,as we all know,is short for “Emotional Quotient”,and “IQ”means “Intelligent Quotient”.It has been a burning issue that which one is more important to success.Certainly,I'll vote for the former on condition that a person has an average “IQ”.Just like a saying goes, the person with high “EQ”will be the employer;the person with high “IQ”will be the employee.Just take myself for example, let me tell you something about my part-time job in the summer holiday.I did a part-time job as a teacher, and I had been tried my best to be a good one.To be honest,I taught my students well. But I got a problem,I find it hard to get along with my boss.Naturally and finally,I didn't get a bonus, while others did. That's a matter of fact,“EQ”counts all the time. For this moment,I recalled a story. One day,the former U.S president George Bush paid a visit to Yale University. He said to those students who failed their exam “You can be the president”.So,it's the “EQ”that makes the person like the president of the United States.第七篇
Good afternoon, honorable judges, dear teachers & friends.I'm Lai Senhan from the University of International Business & Economics.Do you know what date is it today? Today is the Olympic Date.I'm so glad to stand here today to share my idea about Beijing Olympic Games together with you all.The title of my speech is: what can we do for Beijing Olympic Games? First of all, let me tell you a story that happened 2 years ago.At the end of August, 2004, when I decided to come to Beijing for study, my friends hel* * **rewell Party for me.They said: after your graduation, you should look for a job in Beijing, and then in 2008, we shall go to visit you during the Olympic Games.I laughed and answered: OK, no problem!Time flied and 2 years passed. Now I am a graduate. My teachers and classmates always ask me: what's your plan after your graduation? Go back home, stay in Beijing, or go to some other places? And I always answer: I will stay in Beijing.I make this decision not because of my promise to my friends 2 years ago, but because: I've fallen in love with Beijing!I'm eager to welcome the coming Olympic Games together with my fellow countrymen, and I wish I could do something for the Olympics & for the city.As we know, Beijing will host the 29th Summer Olympic Games in 2008.As a Chinese, I think many people are thinking: what we can do for Beijing Olympic Games. Most of us are not athletes, we cannot take part in competitions directly;we are not officials either, we don't need to do the preparatory work.We are only ordinary people, what we can do!There are still so many things we can do!For example, for me, I am a graduate majoring Business English. As far as I am concerned, I will keep on learning English hard, and apply for being a volunteer.I will use English to serve the Games together with other volunteers. And also, as a businessman at that time, I will avail myself of the GREat commercial opportunities that the Olympics brings to us, make more efforts to offer my contribution to the growth of our national economy. And for all of us, with the goal to host a “GREen Olympics”, we shall plant more trees, grass & flowers.Don't waste water. In order to alleviate the problems of air pollution & traffic congestions, we shall take buses & subways more. With the goal to host a “People's Olympics”, and in order to make our Olympics more attractive and to make our Beijing more beautiful, we shall help everyone we meet who needs help, we shall abide by traffic rules, don't smoke in public and no spitting. The most important way for our Chinese to support our Beijing Olympic Games, in my opinion, is to work hard on our duties.第八篇
I’m studying in a city that’s famous for its walls.People who visit my city are amazed at the imposing sight of its walls, especially when silhouetted against the setting sun with gold, shining streaks. The old, cracked bricks are covered with lichens and the walls are weather-beaten guards standing still for centuries. Our ancestors liked to build walls. They built walls in Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing and many other cities, and they built the GREat Wall, which snakes across half our country. They built walls to protect against enemies and evil spirits. This tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public. For a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world to me.My perceptions, however, changed after I made a hiking trip to the eastern suburbs of my city.My classmates and I were walking with some foreign students. As we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by tall trees, which formed a wide canopy above our heads.Suddenly one foreign student asked me, “Where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”
“We’re already in the eastern suburbs,” I replied. He seemed taken aback, “I thought you Chinese had walls for everything.” His remark set off a heated debate. At one point, he likened our walled cities to “jails”, while I insisted that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in China that had no walls. That debate had no winners, but I did learn a lot from this student. For instance, he told me that some major universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls.I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we develop our country, we must look carefully at them and decide whether they are physical or intangible. We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede our development.Let me give another example.A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. However, the librarian coldly rejected my request to borrow it, saying, “You can’t borrow this book, you’re not a student here.” In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan to buy a copy.Meanwhile, the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf. At the beginning of this semester, I heard that my university had started to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other universities, so my experience wouldn’t be repeated.Barriers would be replaced by bridges. An inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any library. With globalization and China integrated into the world, I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.I know that globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad.But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to China’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their role in the modern world. And how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? Should we tear them down? Definitely not.My city, like Beijing and other cities, is actually making a GREat effort to preserve the walls. These walls attract historians, archaeologists, and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and cultural heritage.Walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls. They are now bridges that link East and West, South and North, and all countries of the world. Our cultural heritage will survive globalization.第九篇
In my 18 years of life, there have been many things.University days are the best part of them.I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university.I was impressed by its garden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere.I at once fell in love with it.After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, I made remarkable progress. Now I've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.Learning is a long process;I'll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. This summer I got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world.A publishing house offered me a part-time job in compilation and revision. At the beginning I was belittled by my colleagues. But they were really surprised when I translated seven English articles over 5,000 words on only one day.Gradually, they began to look at me with respectful eyes.In their opinion I turned out to be a useful and trustworthy colleague.I also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be truly happy. So I often take part in activities concerning public welfare.I once went to a barren mountain village with my classmates. We taught the kids there who could not afford school. While showing them how broad and how civilized the outer world is, I was deeply touched by their eagerness to learn, their honesty and their purity.I couldn't control my tears on the day when we left. The precious experience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility on the shoulders of us, future teachers.Besides study and social practice, there are entertainments as well.I do body building every day, hoping to keep healthy and energetic. We also write a play and put it on in our spare time.Campus life is the most splendid time. But different people have different choices. The majority of students cherish their beautiful season and cherish the hope that one day they'll become outstanding. But there are indeed some students still under ignorance. They gather together for eating, drinking or playing cards. They're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. They forget completely about their mission as college students and the hope of their motherland. Finally, I do hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy citizen of the country.I do hope everybody can become the backbone of our nation and make GREat contributions to society 第十篇
What is success? Different people have different ideas. You may say success is the realization of one's hopesand justified goals.Under such notion, however, people have different understanding of success because the hopes and goals they cherish vary from one another. There may ba so mangy kinds of success in the world that i can't enumerate them all.So maybe it's difficult to set a defination for success. But ,in my opinion,it's easy to define what is failure---there is only one failure called never try.Everyone has his dreams but not all of them dare to make it come true.Just like a huter aimed at his game but never fire or a soldier who crying out but never toward. They are afraid of failure that they might encounter. That reminds me of a game we used to play.We put the chairs in a circle. And the player must pass through th barriers made by the chairs with his eyes covered up.He would be allowed to memorize the positions of the chairs. But as soon as his eyes is covered,we will remove all the chairs.Sometimes, our life is just like such kind of game.We tried our best not to bump against the barriers. But these things turn out to be existing only in our minds. And sometimes,we made them for ourselves. We dare not to participate a competition or get cold feet to call the boy or girl we love.It turns out that the barriers we made for ourselves lead to the loss of a lot of things.Don't give up trying untill you really bump against the chairs.Even so,at least you have a place to sit on.Some people would say i tried but i failed to pass an exam or to find a job.I'am a failure. But on the contrary,i prefer to call these things setbacks instead of failures. There is no failure in a winner 's dictionary. It doesn't matter i you have a tumble , what really matters is that you lose the courage to stand up and give it another try.The process is full of tears and pains.Just look back on how we learn to walk when we are young. If we gave up easily, today we may only crawl. If Tomas Edison gave up easily in finding a proper material to make a bulb, maybe we will live in the darkness after the sunset.Perhaps we need some torches to go on with our competition.I,myself,a shy person by nature who easily suffers from stage fright, had to get up my courage to take part in this speech contest like this.I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not coming here. But i chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties. Now here i am.I will try my best because i know i would broaden my horizon and make a lot of friends here.
