第一篇:傲慢与偏见 英文读后感

Jane Austen(16 December 1775-18 July 1817)was born in Steventon, Hampshire, where her father was a rector. She is one of the best-loved writers in English literature. She was tutored at home by her parents and older brother. As they were avid readers, Jane received a broader education than most women of that age.The support of her family was critical to Austen's later

development as a professional writer. She started writing for family amusement when she was a child.Jane was unmarried all her life, but her social life was active. She was connected with the middling-rich landed gentry that she portrayed in her novels.Austen's works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the eighteenth century and are part of the transition to nineteenth-century realism.Austen's plots, though fundamentally comic, highlights the dependence of women on marriage to

secure social standing and economic security.Like those of Samuel Johnson, one of the strongest influences on her writing, her works are concerned with moral issues.Pride and Prejudice which was published in 1813 is one her greatest major novels.Mr.Bennet is an English gentleman with five

unmarried daughters, and Mrs.Bennet has been keen to seek husband for her daughters with great enthusiasm. One day the Bennets has a new neighbor called Bingley who is a wealthy bachelor, and he is soon considered the target of Mrs.Bennet.At a ball,Bingley is immediately attracted to Jane Bennet— the oldest of the five sisters.—which makes Mrs.Bennet go mad with joy.Bingley’s friend Darcy also comes to the ball,he is handsome, rich, and proud. Many girls are attracted by him, but Darcy thinks that none of them could suit his preference, including Elizabeth(second oldest daughter in the Bennets). On the other hand, Elizabeth is disgusted by his pride and has a prejudice about him, because she thinks that Mr.Darcy always shows others an impression of pride and is of no respect to others.Later, at the next dance after witnessing the sharpness of her mind, Darcy displays an attraction to Elizabeth at a second ball, but she refuses him because of how the insults he heaped upon her before. As time goes by, Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth Bennett because of her lovely behavior. The official Wickham is welcomed by the villagers, and Elizabeth also admires him.One day, Wickham tells Elizabeth that his father was once the

steward of the Darcys.Darcy’s father regarded Wickham as his own son and showed more love to him than to Darcy. After Darcy’s father died, the property should be inherited by Wickham, but it was all deprived by Mr.Darcy.All this increases Elizabeth’s prejudice about Mr.Darcy.At another ball, Mr.Darcy invites Elizabeth to dance with him, but Elizabeth refuses him.Elizabeth’s elder male cousin Mr.Collin comes to Hertfordshire to inherit the Bennet's property by rules, he wants to marry one of the Bennets.Knowing that Jane was already engaged with Mr.Bingley, he asks Elizabeth to marry him but was seriously rejected. At last he proposed to Charllote who was Elizabeth’s friend.Mr.Collins is good at flattering and he got the pastorate with the help of Lady Catherine. One day his family was invited to Rosings Garden by Lady Catherine.Elizabeth also goes there with Mr.Collin and Charllote. There she again meets Mr.Darcy who’s Lady Catherine’s nephew.Later in a garden, Sir William tells Elizabeth about Mr.Darcy’s latest act of dissuading Mr.Bingley’s marring Jane Bennet which causes Elizabeth’s exceedingly anger. Then Mr.Darcy comes to the Collins’ and confesses his love for Elizabeth, but he was rejected impolitely by Elizabeth. She

cites both Wickham's story and Jane's broken heart as the two primary reasons for anger. This is really hard for Mr.Darcy, he left with a letter to Elizabeth which removes Eli’s misunderstandings of him.Elizabeth has a guilty conscience for wronging Darcy, and she is also ashamed of her mother’s and sisters’ behavior.Elizabeth goes to Darcy’s Pemberley Garden with her uncle and aunt.Elizabeth’s uncle and aunt are also impressed by Darcy’s politeness.Elizabeth finds that Darcy has changed a lot.Gradually Eli’s prejudice of Mr.Darcy disappeared. At the same time, Elizabeth receives a letter from her family, saying that Lydia Bonnet has run away with Wickham which really embarrassed Elizabeth. She thinks Darcy will look down upon her family. But it’s revealed that Darcy actually finds them eventually and helps to pay the dowry for Wickham to take Lydia in marriage, an act that impresses Elizabeth greatly, her prejudice for him turns into sincere love.Shortly thereafter, Lady Catherine visits Longbourn and tries to strong-arm Elizabeth into rejecting any proposal from Darcy.Elizabeth gets mad – why is this woman trying to control her? – and basically tells her to get lost. When Darcy heard the news, he knows that Elizabeth

has already changed her attitude to him.He goes to Elizabeth and proposes to her sincerely. All shall be well, and Jack shall have Jill.Pride and prejudice is one of my favorite novels.By the description and discussion of the four marriages in the novel, we can see that Austen fully expresses her views on love and marriage.Only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also by satirizing the marriage founded on the basis of origin and desire.Love and marriage is closely associated with property and society, but love and marriage can not only be decided by the property and social status. She rejects the marriage based only on

wealth. The marriage based on social position and money can’t bring happiness in life.Aimless marriage and love are unpractical. If you only married for wealth, the rest of your life might be miserable, and your marriage will filled with endless bitterness.

Some Thoughts of Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice, in my memory, is the first foreign novel I have seen.It leads me to read more foreign works, broaden my vision, deepen my recognition and lets me have a new

understanding of love and marriage.Jane Austin, the “Most Perfect Female Artist”, the author of the Pride and Prejudice, with her female's unique meticulous observation, represented a truthful picture of their little world around themselves, especially the marriage and the love storm between the gentleman and the lady. The style of her work is easy, humorous, and imbued with comic conflict. Thus, her works are popular with readers all around the world.Pride and Prejudice is a classic one of those.“Pride and Prejudice” is one of the most famous masterpieces written by Jane Austin, which was first published in January 1813.Jan Fergus calls it “her most popular novel, both with the public and with her family and friends”.It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature. In 2003, the BBC conducted the largest ever poll for the “UK's Best-Loved Book” in which Pride and Prejudice came second, behind The Lord of the Rings. What’s more, looking at Jane Austin’s novels, we find that irony is the key stone which supports her art building. In Pride and Prejudice, I think, irony is one of the most fascinating characteristics appealing to readers.Meanwhile, in the history of English literature, it was the one which comprehensively discussed the situation and problems of the women status, claiming that women independent personality, equal right, and putting up that the female consciousness and thoughts is progressing with the developmentof the society for the first time. The great work not only attracted a large number of readers at that time, but also has a great many fans now because it providesthe readers with unique artistic taste of relaxation and comedy by using the irony and her witty humor, and retains a fascination for modern readers, though the story is set at the turn of the 19th century. In my opinion, the plot of the novel is driven by the particular situation of the Bennet family that Mr and Mrs Bennet have no sons and have only five daughters, which worries Mrs Bennet that she and her daughters have to leave home and have no income if Mr Bennet dies accidently. The character in this work impresses me deeply is its female leading role, Elizabeth Bennet, later Elizabeth Darcy.Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of her father, a country gentleman, living near the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, near London. She is intelligent, lively, attractive, and witty. Her bravery and intelligence leads her to dare to challenge the secular, dare to pursue her love, and dare to refuse the person who offends her although that person is so good.As we all know that nobody is perfect, Eliza has a tendency to judge someone on first impression and perhaps would be a little selective of the evidence upon which she bases her judgments. The sentences I like most are “Marriage should not be driven by thoughts of money” and “Only deep love will persuade me to marry”, a dialogue between her sister Jane and Elizabeth.I think it is not only her vision of love, but also the author’s.Moreover, Jane portrays four different types of love and marriage with a witty and humorous language in the work.Among them, the marriage between Elizabeth the hostess and Darcy the host is the most successful one. It’s also the perfect pattern of love and marriage that Jane Austen had dreamed of in her entire life.In her eyes, according to what I understand, a happy marriage should be combined with material, morality, sense and sensibility. All of them constitute perfect love and marriage. This perspective until today has high value.Synchronizing with the development of society, more and more love is just established in money and lust, not the pure love. This book shows the author Jane Austin’s pure mind. Here, I sincerely recommend you to read this book. The book is really giving us a baptism of the soul and lets us catch a glimpse of the real and pure love and marriage.

Impressions of Pride and Prejudice

I’ve read a book called Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen during this semester.Jane Austen was unmarried all her life. She was born in a mid-class family and was brought up in a comfortable environment with harmonious surroundings, so there’s not too many conflicts in her sight neither in her novel. In Pride and Prejudice she talked different ideas about love and marriage through different characters. The novel has told an interesting story: Mr.Bennet is an English gentleman with an estate in Hertfordshire. He has five unmarried daughters but no sons while his inheritance must be inherited by a male, so Mrs.Bennet has been keen to seek husband for her daughters with great enthusiasm. One day the Bennets had a new neighbor called Bingley who was a wealthy bachelor and followed be the target of Mrs.Bennet.At a ball Bingley fell in love with Jane Bennet who’s the oldest daughter of the Bennets.Bingley’s friend Darcy also came to the ball and struck the sights, many girls liked him while he thought all of them couldn’t suit his preference, including Elizabeth.Mr.Darcy always shows others a impression

of pride, having found this Elizabeth began to hate Mr.Darcy.Before long Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth Bennett(second oldest daughter in the Bennets)because of her lovely behavior, while Elizabeth is disgusted by his pride and has a prejudice about him.The official Wickham was welcomed by the villagers, and Elizabeth also took a shine to him.Wickham told Elizabeth that his father had been the steward of the Darcys. The old Darcy had regarded Wickham as his own son and showed more love to him than to Mr.Darcy.After the old Darcy died, the property should be inherited by Wickham was all deprived by Mr.Darcy, also was his pastorate. All this increased Eli’s prejudice about Mr.Darcy.At another ball Mr.Darcy invited Elizabeth to dance with him, but Eli refused him.Eli’s elder male cousin Mr.Collin came to Hertfordshire to inherit the Bennett's property by rules, he wanted to marry with one of the Bennets.Having known that Jane was already engaged with Mr.Bingley, he asked Elizabeth to marry him but was seriously rejected. At last he proposed to Charllote who was Eli’s friend.Mr.Collins was good at flattering and he got the pastorate with the help of Lady Catherine.Once his

family was invited to Rosings Garden by Lady Catherine.Elizabeth also went there with Mr.Collin and Charllote. There she met Mr.Darcy who’s Lady Catherine’s nephew.Later in a garden, Sir William told Eli about Mr.Darcy’s latest act of dissuading Mr.Bingley’s marring Jane Bennet which caused Eli’s exceedingly anger. Then Mr.Darcy came to the Collins’ and confessed his love for Elizabeth, of course he was rejected impolitely.Afterwards Mr.Darcy wrote a letter to Eli in order to remove her misunderstandings of him.Elizabeth’s uncle and aunt were also impressed by Mr.Darcy’s politeness.Gradually Eli’s prejudice of Mr.Darcy diappeared.Eventually they became couple. The writer Jane Austen disclosed mid-class young ladies’ different ideas of marriage and love through describing the different ways in which the Bennet girls doing with their marriage problems ,and this undoubtedly shows the writer’s idea about love and marriage: it’s wrong to get married just for property, wealth and status while neither would it be without caring about those elements.Jane Austen just attached great significance to marriage through her novel by telling people that marriage should

be regarded carefully cause it is not a game you could just enjoy without prudent consideration. She also wanted to deliver information that marriage should be based on real love between the lovers. The female subject Elizabeth is a mid-class girl, and Darcy proposed to her regardless of the gap between them, but Elizabeth refused because of his pride had formed Eli’s prejudice.Cause Darcy’s pride was a suggest of status gap between he and Eli, he wouldn’t have the same thought with Eli and consequently the ideal marriage. But later Darcy’s doings especially his change of the prideful manner eliminated Eli’s misunderstandings and prejudice about him, and Eli accepted his proposal. Those two opposite attitudes reflect female’s pursue of independent personality and equality.I think Elizabeth has personality ethic which caused her independent idea about love and marriage and in consequence she earned a happy life. There’re also Eli’s sisters’ love stories served as contrasts to the female subject’s ideal marriage, such as Charlotte and Collin’s life: they do had a luxury life, but there’s noreal love between them and this kind of marriage is surely a tragedy of society.

第四篇:傲慢与偏见英文读后感

The Most Beautiful Love

Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this movie is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters. The characters have their own personalities.Mrs.Bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters.Mr.Bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, Mr.Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior.Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different.Jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others.Elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion.Mary likes reading classic books.(Actually she is a pedant.)Kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia.Lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When I read the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. That is why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britain in the 18th century. The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favourite topic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can find these from the very beginning of this book. The first sentence in this book is impressive. It reads: “It is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”.The undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.Pride and Prejudice was an absolutely fantastic film.A great cast, and Keira Knightly did an excellent job and Matthew Macfadyen was a wonderful in the role of Mr Darcy. The cinematography was so ridiculously good, there were some fantastic shots and the costumes were also fantastic. The script was fairly good, it is true to the classic by Jane Austen, Mr Wickam could have made more of an appearance, and had a striking resemblance to one Orlando Bloom. The movie moved fairly fast but trying to fit such a novel into two hours had to be hard anyway, so I say well done to all involved, as such a beloved book can be a hard project to take on, but after watching it I really can't wait until to see it again!!

第五篇:《傲慢与偏见》英文读后感

The abbreviation of the novel. This is a story happening in a Bennet.Mr.Bennet, a countryside gentleman in England, had no sons but five girls.According to the law, the girls in Bennet’s could not inherit their father’s fortune but could only get 5,000 pounds as dowry and the possession was to be inherited by Mr.Bennet’s nephew, Collins,square-toes and good at flattering flattery. So, how to help them marry a rich gentleman was the top agenda to Mrs.Bennet.And when Collins wanted to propose one of the girls in Bennet’ and he chose Elizabeth, for the eldest but most beautiful girl, Jane, was not available.Elizabeth refused him and he proposed her close friend, Charlotte.Although Charlotte did not like Collins, she married him for she was already 27.As for Jane, she met a handsome young man with a plenty of money named Mr.Bingley.They felt in love at first sight at a ball.Mr.Bingley showed great passion on Jane, while Jane did not though she did love him.Mr.Darcy, a very good friend of Mr.Bingley, was also a wealthy and attracted young man.At that ball,at first Mr.Darcy was very pride and prejudice to Elizabeth, but after dancing with her ,he felt in love with her.But Elizabeth did not like him because of his air.And Elizabeth treated Mr.Darcy worse because he persuaded Mr.Bingley to give up her sister, Jane.So at the first time when Mr.Darcy proposed, she refused.Lydia, Elizabeth another sister, was too young and innocent to tell a delusion and ran away with a young and handsome military officer,Wickham, who actually was a gambling addicts and had a numerous debt. When Mr.Darcy paid Wickham a lot of money to get Lydia a complete marriage, and managed to make Jane and Mr.Bingley get together, Elizabeth did not misunderstand him anymore and accepted his second proposal.Appreciation

‘It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.’ The first sentence in the novel and sets the ground and tone for the novel.During that time some people were timeservers and flatters ,hypocritical and stupid, like Mr.s Bennet, while some were smart and independent, like Elizabeth. And this conflict makes the whole story full of humorousness and irony, and the readers think more beyond the lines, making the author outstanding at her age.Apart from that, Jane Austin’s concept of marriage, which we can refer from the lines, is totally different from the convention and has been attracted by the readers over the years.I think, there are two points in her new concept. The first one is that a marriage does need a monetary foundation but more importantly should be built on true love and self esteem. At that time a woman was supposed to marry a rich man although she did not like that man.So that’s why Mrs.Bennet asked Elizabeth to marry Collins. But Elizabeth refused for she did not like him. However, her friend Charlotte chose to married him because

Charlotte was too old to care about too much although Charlotte was also an acknowledged lady and could not regardless the convention. Therefore,in the author’s eyes, their marriage would not last for long because it was not built on love. So, the marriage, like Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy’s, should be encouraged, and we should be negative about marriage, only built on money, like Collins and Charlotte’s, Lydia and Wickham’s.The second is that women and men should be equal. From Elizabeth turning down Collins and Mr.Darcy,we can see that, in author’s mind, a marriage should not be decided by the man but both ,and women are not the accessories of men’s but should be independent, having their own feelings, voice and decisions. And this can reflect some ideas about Jane Austin’s feminism, which also has made her distinguish for years.I think this is also suitable for today.Women, having more power than ever, should be more independent not only in marriage but also in the society.
