其实不同的颜色在不同的语境中是有讲究的。
red（红色）：无论在英语国家还是在中国，红色往往与庆祝活动或喜庆日子有关。英语里有red-letter days（纪念日，喜庆的日子），在西方一般指圣诞节或其他节日，因为这些日子在日历上是用红色标明的，所以red-letter的转义就是“可纪念的”、“喜庆的”。（普通的日子印的是黑色，但black－letter day却不是“平常的日子”，而表示“倒霉的一天”。）又如to paint the town red表示“狂欢”、“痛饮”、“胡闹”，多指夜生活中的狂欢作乐，饮酒胡闹，不是“把全城染红”。
White（白色）：对多数中国人和西方人来说，白色所引起的联想有一些是相近的：purity（洁白）, innocence（清白无辜）。但英语中的white lie 这个短语是什么意思呢？谎言还能“清白”、“无罪”、“天真”或“单纯”吗？回答是：a white lie 指“不怀恶意的谎言”。
Black(黑色)：在英语和汉语中都有不少词语表明black（黑）与“不好的”、“坏的”、“邪恶的”特征相联系。如：blacklist（黑名单），black market（黑市），black-hearted（黑心的），black sheep（害群之马）等。
Blue（蓝色）：在英语中蓝色通常表示不快。如in a blue mood 或having the blues 表示“情绪低沉”、“忧郁”、“沮丧”、“烦闷”，在a blue Monday（倒霉的星期一）中，blue 也表示类似的意思——过了愉快、幸福的周末，星期一又要上班或上学了，所以情绪不佳。如：It was blue Monday and he just didn't feel like going back to work.Green（绿色）：除了green with envy，英语中还有green-eyed monster和green-eyed，都表示“嫉妒”。可是，常用来表示“嫉妒”的汉语却是“眼红”（或“害了红眼病”），英语直译为red－eyed,恰好与英语green－eyed相反。
有趣的是，在不同的语言中对同一物体或现象却用不同颜色来加以描述。英国人喝的black tea在汉语中不叫“黑茶”而叫“红茶”。美国人谈到皮肉受伤时说be bruised black and blue, 而中国人则说“被打得青一块，紫一块”（直译为：be beaten blue and Purple，当然应译为地道的英语be beaten black and blue）。

【摘要】英语学习在我们的生活中越来越重要，英语学习的基础――词汇占有非常重要的位置。但是，词汇的学习让很多小学生倍感枯燥，繁杂。改革传统教学方式变得尤为重要。很多教师开展了多项趣味活动来充分调动学生们的积极性，同时也产生了一些问题。

伴随着中国综合国力的发展，中国正在以古老而神秘的文化向世界展示其独特的魅力。英语作为一项重要的交流工具，成为很多中国人必学的科目。著名语言学家WILKINS说过“没有语法只能传达很少的信息，没有词汇则什么也无法传达。”可见单词在英语学习中的重要性。由于英语单词浩如烟海，读音亦是变化多端，这对于初学者来说是十分困难的。这其实也在很大程度上影响了学习者对英语的掌握和生活中的社交。
一、英语教学中出现的问题
1.未对单词意义做出详细讲解。没有明确提出单词的个别意义和一般意义的区别。有的教师顾虑学生的学习能力，只会同学生讲解一般意义。但是学生在日常的阅读和生活中，难免会遇到词汇的引申义和个别意义。这样会让学生错误的认为英语学习深不可测，使他们对英语产生学习的障碍和畏惧心理。
2.未建立词汇学习环境。很多学生学习单词的时候只注意学习词汇的含义，脱离了词汇所在的环境。这样孤立的讲解不仅不利于学生的学习，而且还会影响学生对英语学习的兴趣。学生无法把握词汇的真正含义，也就无法进行真正意义上的英语学习，这也就始终让中国学生徘徊在英语学习的大门之外。
3.词汇教学的方法单一落后。教师在教学中往往忽略了小学生的年龄特点和心理特点。长时间的枯燥讲解无法调动学生学习的积极性。小学生在学习新知识的过程中应充分调动他们的眼，耳，口，手等多种感官的配合，同时使用传统方法使学生反复记忆。
二、突破瓶颈，帮助学生们学习英语词汇的方法
1.立体教学法，拴住学生们的心。小学生此时灵活好动，应该采取多种方式，来使学生们集中注意力学习。图片和实物的运用已经很普遍，课本剧和游戏走入课堂受到很多学生的青睐。比如学习关于数字的词汇的时候，教师可以使用丢手绢等游戏来使学生们参与到课堂学习中去，充分调动他们的多种感官来提高学生的积极性和学习效率，使学生们在快乐轻松的氛围中学习。
2.对比学习，高效记忆。面对英语这样的新知识，在没有英语的大环境中，学生特别是小学生很难融入英语学习中去。教师往往可以借助母语来帮助学生的学习。如Mongolian(蒙古人)可以教学生们一句顺口溜：蒙古人周一去大连。Mon是周一的简写，go是英语中去的意思，很容易记住，lian是“连”的汉语拼音。这样可以使学生的记忆变成一个有趣而富有创造力的过程。当然，我们还可以在中英文的对比中记忆单词。比如tall，short，big，small等这样的反义词，可以借助中文含义，帮助学生们记忆。还可以搞一个小型的比赛，由学生们找出一个词语的反义词，近义词，以促进学生对词汇学习的巩固。
3.联想教育，扩展学生们的词汇。英语词汇包含大量的词根，词缀，将他们串联一起帮助学生们记忆也是一个非常好的办法。比如happy，学生们可以想到unhappy，happiness 等，这样学习一个单词的同时，也很容易的就学会了另外两个单词。以点带面也是一个非常好的方法，诸如提到head，学生们可以想到hair，eye，nose，mouse这样可以简化学生们的记忆过程，真正达到感知，理解和记忆的目的。
三、英语词汇教学中应该注意的几个问题
1.开展游戏的同时注意纪律性，保证学生们的安全。小学生的心智还不够成熟，活泼好动，在游戏中难免会出现大喊大叫和追跑打闹的现象。所以教师在开展游戏活动之前要与学生们“约法三章”，同学们讲好游戏的规则。这样既是保证课堂纪律，也是保证学生们的安全，毕竟安全才是第一位的。
2.确保游戏的公平性，奖罚分明。争强好胜也是小学学生这个阶段的主要特点之一，游戏的竞争机制无疑激发了他们这一天性。游戏的结果和教师对他的评价，学生的心里是非常在乎的。不公平的结果，奖罚不够分明不仅打击了他们的自尊心，甚至会对他们的心里蒙上一层阴影。不仅在心理上对教师产生排斥还会使他们对生活中的某些事情造成错误的解读。所以，明确奖罚制度，适时的给予学生鼓励和表扬，都更有利于学生们对英语的学习。
3.注意适度的游戏，确保全班学生的参与。游戏是辅助学生学习的手段，而不是目的。很多教师在开展游戏活动的时候，游戏设置的过多，学生们很难全身心投入到学习中去。也就是学生的注意力都集中在游戏上，而忽略了词汇的学习。还有很多教师忽略了个别学生的性格特点和能力，将游戏的难度设置的过高，这就很难保证班上的每一个学生都参与到其中去。这样不仅不利于英语词汇的学习，更会让他们有一种被忽视的感觉，同样会影响学生们的心理成长。
总之，在词汇教学中，教师要从学生的角度出发，变革传统的教学方式，充分发挥学生的积极主动创造性，来让学生们不再学习“汉式英语”。
