Clothes in Victorian Period
The period of the Victorian style is from 1837 to 1901, during the reign of the Queen. In the conservative Victorian era, the need for pure culture, women must keep themselves tightly wrapped. So the characteristics of women’s clothing in that era is the extensive use of collar(立领), multi-layered cake cutting(多层次蛋糕裁剪), lotus leaf(荷叶边), high waist,(高腰), bows(蝴蝶结), leg of mutton sleeves(羊腿袖)and wrinkle(褶皱).Corset
Women with high social status would wear corsets, which drags to the ground with a long skirt, and fastens the waist.Wearing this tight-fitting suit seems elegance.Bowler hat(波乐帽)
The most famous dress in England is the English gentleman's bowler hat.It is also known as a coke hat, is a hard felt hat with a rounded crown originally created in 1849.Traditionally, the British nobility, have to wear this hat.Today, in the streets of major cities, such hats have been rare, but not disappeared.Besides, many women like wearing some inflated hats to express their own point of views of fashion.Tailcoat(燕尾服)
Tailcoats originated in the United Kingdom, in the 18th century, evolved
from the cavalry service. The historical reason is that the coat was cut to make it easier for the wearer to ride a horse. But it is extremely beautiful. This makes the other branches to follow up.Thus, tailcoat had become fashionable among civilians and officials and it’s popular in Britain and its colonies.Scottish kilt(基尔特)
The kilt is a knee-length garment with pleats at the rear.Originated in the traditional dress of men and boys in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century.Since the 19th century it has become associated with the wider culture of Scotland in general. When Scottish celebrating their festivals, they always wear a nice kilt, dancing and playing cheerful music with bagpipes. It’s interesting that the lattice is the most important thing for them.In Scotland, different clansmen have their own style of lattice and it can be used as an identity card.We can also said that the lattice represents the history of Scotland.Maybe you will be curious about why Scottish all like wearing skirt. In the eyes of Scottish, the kilt is the sign of Scotland culture and people in Scotland wear this skirt suit to show the resist of the England and the desire for national independence. In many formal occasions, daily entertainment occasions, Scottish people
will choose to wear this dress to attend. Some schools also choose this kind of dress as uniforms. We can see that skirt has been an indispensable part of people’s life.British Style(英伦风)
London is the prime area in England, so British Style is generally originated from England Oxford, Cambridge and other famous universities of students in the usual costumes, mainly in stripes and grid-based.Compared to other countries, the British Style always seems to be sided with the temperament. And sensibility is the nature of British fashion.
First of all, I'd like to say thank you.Thank you for not only accepting me as your Patron but thank you also for inviting me here today. You have all made me feel so welcome and I feel hugely honoured to be here to see this wonderful centre.I am only sorry that William can't be here today;he would love it here.A view of hisis that through teamwork, so much can be achieved. What you have all achieved here is extraordinary. You as a community have built the Treehouse;a group of people who have made every effort to support and help each other. When I first visited the Hospice in Milton, I had a pre-conceived idea as to what to expect.Far from being a clinical, depressing place for sick children, it was a home. Most importantly, it was a family home, a happy place of stability, support and care.It was a place of fun.Today I have seen again that the Treehouse is all about family and fun.For many, this is a home from homefeelings of love and of hope-offer a chance to families to live a life they never thought could be possible. So thank you again for inviting me here today.I feel enormously proud to be part of East Anglia's Children's Hospices and to see the wonderful life-changing work that you do.Thank you.
David Cameron has led a one nation government and it is in that spirit that I also plan to lead.Because not everybody knows this, but the full title of my party is the Conservative and Unionist Party. And that word Unionist is very important to me.It means we believe in the Union. That precious, precious bond betweenEngland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
But it means something else that is just as important. It means that we believe in a Union not just of the nations of the United Kingdom, but between all of our citizens.Every one of us, whoever we are and wherever we are from.
That means fighting against the burning injustice that if you are born poor, you will die on average nine years earlier than others. If you're black, you're treated more harshly by the criminal justice system than if you are white.
If you're a white, working-class boy, you're less likely than anyone else in Britain to go to university. If you're at a state school, you're less likely to reach the top professions than if you were educated privately.
If you are a woman, you will earn less than a man.If you suffer from mental health problems, there's not enough help to hand.If you're young, you'll find it harder than ever before to own your own home.
But the mission to make Britain a country that works for everyone means more than just fighting these injustices.
If you're from an ordinary working-class family, life is much harder than many people in Westminster realize. You have the job, but you don't always have the job security.
You have your own home, but you worry about paying the mortgage. You can just about manage, but you worry about the cost of living and getting your kids into a good school.
If you're one of those families. If you're just managing.I want to address you directly.I know you're working around the clock, I know you're doing your best, and I know that sometimes, life can be a struggle. The government I lead will be driven not by the interests of a privileged few, but by yours.
We will do everything we can to give you more control over your lives. When we take the big calls, we'll think not of the powerful but you. When we pass new laws, we'll listen not to the mighty, but you. When it comes to taxes we'll prioritize not the wealthy, but you. When it comes to opportunity, we won't entrench the advantages of the fortunate few.
We will do everything we can to help anybody, whatever your background, to go as far as your talents will take you.
We are living through an important moment in our country's history.Following the referendum we face a time of great national change. And I know because we're Great Britain, we will rise to the challenge.
As we leave the European Union, we will forge a bold, new positive role for ourselves in the world. And we will make Britain a country that works not for a privileged few, but for every one of us.
That will be the mission of the government I lead, and together, we will build a better Britain.
