考研英语作文的分值从 20分增加到了30分，总词数达300词左右，由此看出，写作能力的考察已成为考研英语的重点。要想突破作文高分，就要在以下几个方面做好充分准备。了解命题规律。2.掌握写作技巧。3.背诵相关范文。4.有针对性的写作练习。
内容上 : 1991-1996 年的命题主要集中在人际关系，生活方式，娱乐，教育，健康等方面；1997-2007年的命题主要关注社会热点，如：企业的虚假承诺，献爱心，子女教育，赡养老人，偶像崇拜，自信等。
形式上： 1991-1996 年的作文为直接命题并给出要点； 1997-2004 年的作文为给出图表（图画）及提纲要点，要求对其进行描述分析； 2005-2007 年的作文在图表作文的基础上增加了约 100 词的应用文写作。由此看出，英语实际应用能力的考察已经开始受到关注。以下我们将对应用文写作进行具体分析。

申请信写法：
开头：说明写信目的(申请原因)，信息来源，对所申请工作或学校的认识，自己的打算。主体：着重介绍自己的背景（教育情况，工作经历，兴趣爱好，特长等）。求职信先介绍工作经验，要突出个人能力及工作业绩；求学信要重点介绍自己受教育程度。总之，要努力使自己的介绍引起对方的兴趣。
结尾：表达自己的愿望，如希望得到面试机会等。要自信而坚定。
