When I am reading “Walden” , I feel I am listening to a wise man's talking.Furthermore , I am not only deeply impressed by those beautiful and marvellous words about the nature in the book, but also inspired by the wisdom and philosophy which lie in every sentence. The attractive description about the nature, such as the small pond, beckon me to follow the perchance, then experience the beauty of nature. As I read more, I realize that Thoreau thinks highly of spiritual world, not the material needs. He says: A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone. In some way, this idea also reflects Confucius's thinking on the mental world. As we know, Confucius, the great educationalist of ancient China, once pointed out: "Simple needs, drinking water, bending the arm on a pillow, happy enjoying in life.Riches and honors acquired by unrighteousness are to me as a floating cloud. In the meanwhile, Thoreau advocates respecting and loving our nature, which is similar with Lao Tse's idea---人法地,地法天,天法道,道法自然。No exaggeration to say that, for more than 2, 000 years, China, even the Europe, was guided by those greatest teacher and moral philosopher, like Confucius,Lao Tse and so on.Now their opinions is spreading over the whole world. After reading the whole story, I find I am absorbed in the wonder of nature, and the life upon it.Facing with a dense wood, if we just measure about the business value of tree, can we gain any improvement or satisfaction in our spiritual world.? Of course, the answer is obvious. The gratification of our material life is not the only measure of our happiness.Anyway, it's more important to build our spirit than to mold our material life.
You Make Me Calm Down In my opinion, you can’t read this book clear if you can’t keep heartsease. As Kung Fu Panda said, you need keep inner peace.Reed this book is read the writer’s life style, it just like you practice Kong Fu;you wouldn’t play it well unless you concentrate on it.Walden is a masterpiece written by Henry David Thoreau(1817-1862),who was born in Concord, Massachusetts. In the Walden, Thoreau not only advocated the protection of nature, but also encourages people to comprehend and return to nature. He told us using his own experience that by living a simple life close to nature, we human beings will find out the true value of life and significance of existence. After reading, what impressed me most are the shocking poets, especially this short poet: “There was a shepherd that did live, And held his thoughts as high
As were the mounts whereon his flocks Did hurly feed him by.”
He lives in such a liberty life that beyond thought, it just wash, wash his entire mind, it’s the dream that we can’t forget.Thoreau's though of enjoying a simple life has a more realistic significance and have become a valuable spiritual wealth in our modern society. With the development of the material civilization, people's desires are swelling limitlessly and many people are busy with the pursuit of wealth and luxurious life by any means, including at the expense of nature. However, even in the society materially affluent and technologically advanced , people are not be more happier than those people who lived centuries ago, but even feel less satisfactory and complaint more about their present life as a result of having unbounded desires of getting more and better. Therefore, many people who possess a lat have become slaves of machine, working more but do not have the ability to enjoy what they have.Reading this book is like having a tranquil steam flow through my heart, washing the dust in my mind.It teaches me how to keep a pure spirit in the complex society, set proper goals for my life as well as enjoy the endows of nature. In short, I feel it quite worthwhile to read the book Walden.I sincerely hope more and more people would like to read this book and receive benefits from it.He attempted to encourage people to simplify the life and spare the time to go deep into the real life.At the same time, he let them enjoy it.He told people not to be confused with complicated life by his own experiences. In the direction of Thoreau, they would not lose a flash of hope or lose their way in life. They should be a rudder of the life thus start on a new journey. He thought that if people were able to set the simple life by universe regulation, it would not arouse many anxieties which disturbed the inner peace of the heart. The so-called tomorrow would not approach in spite of the ending of the time.We regarded a flash of light as darkness. As we were sober, the first light of morning was going to break. He calls on people live a simple life that is in order to make people experience something new instead of saving money.Maybe this is the value of a person. There’s not any pretence, only be surrounded with solitude and quietness. At the shore of Walden, the author exactly chased for depth, rather, it was pursuing the depth. In a lonely state of mind, he thought about the life and explored the real meaning.Solitude inspired his profound thought.“Do not give me love, money or reputation, please give me the truth.” This was what he was calling in his heart.Though we can’t live a life in woods around the mountain and Walden has disappeared forever, it’s impossible to hinder us have a Walden of our own.Our heart need being clarified as Thoreau has said that let your spirit set out to explore. However, every one lives in a certain society thereby one's behavior is more or less influenced by forces not of their own making. And to operate normally, every society has its laws, though many times have differences among them.It is true that humanity plays an essential role in ruling individuals' behaviors;yet laws are necessary.Under the control of laws, people who have little individual responsibility would probably not dare to do any crime in fear of law punishment.Besides laws, for example in school, rules are also an important factor as well as individual responsibility.Nowadays, in most universities, a student who does not pass some certain courses in his four years college life would not get his diploma of bachelor's degree. So even if a student does not like his discipline, or dose not care about his GPA, the pressure of graduating forces him not to playing computer or basketball all the time.Read over, although I may not live a life just like Thoreau, I’m really calm down and live a simple life. This, I think, is author’s except for.
The Attitude of Life in Walden英语论文
The Attitude of Life in Walden
Henry David Thoreau was born in Concord, Massachusetts. He
attended Concord Academy, and went to Harvard. After graduation,he worked in his father’s pencil factory and taught at school for a
short time, and ran a private school for two years. He was a faithful
follower of Emerson with whom he kept a lifelong friendship.Thoreau had a love of thrift inventiveness, and the ability to meet
challenges. He insisted that the price for material progress was too
high and therefore simplification was the remedy for the problems in
modern civilization. He became a major voice for the 19th century of
America. His primarily works include Civil Disobedience, A Plea for
John Brown, Walden / Life in the Woods and The Maine Woods.Walden, published in 1854, is now considered one of the
best-selling books in the history of American literature, and its
critical reputation continues to grow as much as its popular
acceptance.Walden describes Thoreau's about two-year life in a cabin near
Walden Pond.He first wrote that a lot of common people were trying
their best to earn money and get their necessary things of life, such as
food, clothes and houses. While, unlike them, Thoreau went to the
woods to build a cabin which cost nearly little money and need little
furniture. After arriving there, he cultivated himself, and tried to live a self-sufficient life without any help from the outside world. Then he began observing Walden Pond, thinking about life, reading some books, and listening to the sound of nature.Thoreau also mentioned that the noise in the town and the whistle of train disturbed the quiet life. However, when he lived in the rather quiet woods, he could enjoy himself to listen to animals' sounds, such as bird's singing, owl’s hooting, and cockerel’s crowing. He lived with animals friendly. It’s his hope to isolate himself from society in order to gain a more objective understanding of it.The author also vividly described the pond in four seasons.Sometimes, when the water was flowing, the pond looked like a huge blue mirror. Then everything was frozen and everywhere your eyesight reached was white and holy.Just like the pure green water, the ice was always green and looked like precious diamond.Thoreau also wrote a lot of beautiful scenery, the woods, the birds, and the hills. In Thoreau’s eyes, Walden Pond was the vitality and tranquility of nature and it can purify people’s soul.People those who came here would be more happy than in any other places. We often make ourselves unhappy by wishing for whatever is not true.If it is hot, we long for winter, and if it is cold, we long for summer.Thoreau shows here his ability to enjoy the weather he is experiencing rather than longing for some other weather.Reading Walden, is just like listening to a wise man’s talking. The words and phrases about the nature especially the Walden Pond
are beautiful and fascinating. The sentences are full of wisdom and philosophy. And it reminds us of those people who work hard to earn money, waste lots of money to buy luxury and expensive things, waste time to entertain themselves. They may easily lose themselves, and though their bodies are full, their minds are empty. The real life is to make every complicate thing to be simple and enrich our heart and soul.In Walden, Thoreau saw nature as a genuine restorative, which has healthy influence on man’s spiritual well-being, and regarded it as a symbol of spirit. As a main resister against the materialism of his day, Thoreau determined to live in the hut, devoting his time to observations and reflections and refusing all the materials from the modern society. He wanted to prove how far he could free himself from the hypocrisies and unnecessary complexities of the commercial society. It was his firm belief that ”natural objects and phenomena are the original symbols or types which express our thoughts and feelings”.The ponds in Walden were beautiful and devine, and the author gave a lot of meanings to it.In Walden, Thoreau wanted to show us such a fact that people can live a simple life and get happier emotions from nature than the industrial world. They should be more friendly to nature rather than pollute it.The harmony between nature and human society was very significant, and effective actions should be taken without hesitation. This book begins with the beautiful and charming
season-----spring, then summer, autumn and winter, on the end, spring comes again, this is just a life cycle, and the end is the starting point when all life begin to recover. It is a quiet, tranquil world which is full of wisdom. The analysis of life, critical attitude of the traditional customs, and the unique opinions of the world impress readers deeply. Many images and scenery portrayed in some articles, are really beautiful and meticulous, transparent like pure water, such as the lush green mountains;some also have reasoning thought, very insightful and enlightening. Here the air is clean, the nature is without environmental pollution caused by industrial society.Reading it, readers will feel the soul of the purity, and get spiritual sublimation.Thoreau talks about a spiritual awakening. The place and time are unimportant, and “the place...is always the same”;that is, not a physical place but a spiritual location.Usually, unimportant and temporary conditions are the events which we allow to cause these moments of awakening. But these conditions are a distraction rather than the spiritual reality itself.Thoreau says that we are closer to our creator than to his creations, a creator who is not someone to talk with but someone who is directing us(The quoted passages are from Confucius).Thoreau’s ideas are much ahead of his time. For half a century after his death, he remained in obscurity;but his reputation rose steadily in the 20th century. His works have been edited, published and reverently commented on.His influence even goes beyond
America. His statue was placed in the Hall of Fame in New York in 1969 alongside those of other great Americans.
