The Reading Report of The Adventure of Tom Sawyer

Published in 1876, The Adventure of Tom Sawyer was a masterpiece written by the notable American novelist, Mark Twain.Born on November 30, 1835 in a village in Florida, Missouri and passed away on April 21, 1910, Mark Twain witnessed the development of American from a free capitalist country to an imperialist one, which shed light onto the transparent changes of his thoughts and works during his whole life.Mark Twain, also the author of The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn and The Million Pound Note, was acknowledged as the founder of American critical realistic literature and even “Lincoln in American literature”.The protagonist, Tom Sawyer’s life in this novel was filled with romance and pleasure. His happiness always endured for quite a long time whereas his worry tended to pass within minutes. He was a typical kindhearted, bravery and mischievous boy who thought highly of Robin Hood and had a great passion for adventures.Naughty as he was, Tom Sawyer just followed his heart and did whatever he could to get rid of shackles. Thus I couldn’t see what is wrong with his struggling for freedom. After

his parents’ death when he was still a child, Tom started being taken care of and brought up by his aunt, Polly. As a matter of fact, Tom was always absent-minded at class because he loathed attending school.Consequently, most of the time he skipped classes, aiming to have fun with his best friend Huckleberry Finn.Additionally, he later fell in love with Becky Thatcher, the daughter of the judge Thatcher and endeavored to go after her by all means. As we expected, Aunt Polly felt deeply upset about Tom’s unreasonable behaviors. It is obvious that Tom Sawyer was a combination of several characters in this book.Once, Tom went to a tomb and surprisingly discovered a case of murder in which Indian Joe was so irritated in a quarrel that he killed Robinson.Besides, being drunk and beaten by Joe, Porter immediately fell down in a faint. As a result, Joe put the knife in Porter’s hand, meaning to impute the crime to Porter so as to escape punishment.Unexpectedly, Huckleberry was also on the spot and sighted the murder.Out of fear and scare, they immediately swore to keep it a strict secret forever. When reading this part, I considered Tom to be a timid as well as dishonesty boy. However, what was going to happen changed my opinion completely.Tom was extremely guilty and thought it was unfair to Porter. So He finally revealed the truth to the public, which promptly proved Porter’s innocence.Tom’s act of justice made a favorable impression on me.From this matter, I could easily come to the conclusion that Tom was a boy of righteousness and honesty. In general, the main content of the novel is the growth experience of Tom Sawyer.Actually, the rich description of Tom’s growth experience conveys Mark Twain’s memory of the delightful childhood.Tom, an intelligent, active and courageous boy, is an authentic depiction of the village children in American of the same background at that time.Through the description of the adventure of Tom Sawyer, this book subtly satires and criticizes many phenomena of American society, such as the vulgar social customs, the hypocritical religious ritual as well as the rigid school education. For these reasons, Tom Sawyer is one of the most famous characters in the history of American literature, making The Adventure of Tom Sawyer one of the greatest children’s literature works all over the world.I highly recommend you to read this book because it is exactly an excellent novel that worth reading.

The Reading Report of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

I have read the The Adventures of Tom Sawyer a few days ago. It's an amazing book, I think. It is a literary masterpieces, written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain.Tom Sawyer is a mischievous young boy who lives in the small town on the Mississippi River called St.Petersburg.The story line is simple, the book reads like a biography or a memoir of a summer in Tom Sawyer's life.I believe that one of the factors that makes a piece of literature or even a movie a masterpiece is how well the reader can relate to the story. This is definitely a book everyone can relate to.Tom Sawyer was a daughty boy.Because of his behavior, such as cheating, fighting with other boys and making trikts on other people, his aunt Dolly do her duty to make him a good boy.Lazy as he was, he was bright indeed;he used the desire of human to make the boy in the village to work for him and also give him their own possessions. He was a real find. Many miserable leaned around Tom’ life, he even thought of death. How a little boy who should have no troubles living in the world had such pains in growth.Poor little Tom!With his whole heart, Tom wished to go.Leave this world full of troubles. But at that moment, he found his real love, a new little girl whose father was a judge in the village. The judge was a serious man but respected by all the people. In Sunday school, the little girl and her father came to reward child who had enough tickets given for learning Bible verses.Tom stepped out and gave them that bought from others to his teacher. As he had the honor to obtain the Bible from the judge, he was asked some questions about the Bible. As far as we all know, he must become a laugh stock of all the children. Then a slapstick was on in church, The big black bug Tom carried with him took a painful hold of a dog.The dog jumped and cried. At last one man threw the dog out of the window. Now you can hear laughers of people.Church became a pleasure to all the people.Tom lost his heart, now we the power of love, which encourage Tom asked Becky engage to him.Childish as they were, western style of show one’s love is so open.Know the name of Huckle Berry, another character of Mark Twain is story. In this book he is good friend of Tom Sawyer. At the midnight in graves, Tom and his friend Huckle Berry did something in secret, but saw a murder by chance. He and Huckle Berry vowed not tell the truth to police because of Indian Joe who is the murder was a real Deli. After all people mistook Potter as the murder, Tom suffered everyday from the truth.Something even worse happened on after one, now he lost Becky.Tom with other two boys in the village who also had been driven out of their homes started their new life departure the villages with hope of new life. After getting on a land, the land, they wanted to be as pirates. It seemed wonderful to be eating in that wild, free manner in the forest, far from the people. The important theme developed in the novel is imagination. The story describes mostly a boy, whose life is composed of fantasies of heroic adventures and narrow escapes.A large part of Tom's behavior is due to his inexhaustible imagination, which is sometimes used to escape the difficulties of his world. We can notice his ability of persuasion at the beginning of the book, where he is punished for playing hooky, by being made to whitewash a fence, but ingeniously leads his friends to do the job for him by pretending it is a privilege. After applying his 'reverse psychology' method to a couple of boys, “He had discovered a great law of human action, without knowing it-namely, that in order to make a man or a boy covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to attain.”(p.13)His vivid imagination repeats itself when he decides to become a pirate, robber or soldier. An example of this can be found on page 16 in an extract from the “military” conflict: “Tom's army won a great victory, after a long and hard-fought battle. Then the dead were counted, prisoners exchanged, the terms of the next disagreement agreed upon, and the day for the necessary battle appointed;after which the armies fell into line and marched away, and Tom turned homeward alone.” As Tom, Huck and Joe hide on nearby Jackson's Island, imagination strikes again as they associate their names with those of fictional characters from various literature. They liked to be known as Tom Sawyer, The Black Avenger of the Spanish Main, Huck Finn the Red-Handed and Joe Harper the Terror of the Seas.Comments: The story took place against a background of a town nearby the Mississippi, Tom Sawyer and his friend who were fed up with the dull and inflexible lifestyle in the town asked for risk and adventure. Most plots in the story are the experience of Mark Twain as he was sailor at the sea.He also had other occupations when he was young that offered him with full stuff and enough fantasy to write one excellent novel after another. It became the best seller of that time. And now it is still popular with teenagers, it can be called the classics.Twain, mark, pseudonym of samuel langhorne clemens(1835-1910), american writer and humorist, whose best work is characterized by broad, often irreverent humor or biting social satire.Twain’s writing is also known for realism of place and language, memorable characters, and hatred of hypocrisy and oppression. What makes this story great is that Tom Sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. The book is filled with Tom's adventures playing pirates and war with his friend Joe Harper.Tom has a trusted friend, Huck Finn, who few of the adults approve of.The book is filled with ideas of how the world works, such as how pirates and robbers work, that are so innocent, they could only come from a child. It is a story filled with action, adventure, ingenious ideas, love, and schoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication of what people did or wish they did during their childhood. The book is a little difficult to read at first.Personally, it takes me a little while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the book.Other than referring to persons of African decent in derogatory terms(which I'm sure uses terms even young children already know), the book would be an enjoyable read for people of all ages.I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to feel young again, if just for a few hundred pages.
