all in the performance of most of his novels, the most representative of the Great Gatsby, it lays the author in the modern United States status of literature. The introduction to the story Story takes place in the modern United States social class on the white circle, and described by Cab Calloway.Cab Calloway was born in the United States Midwest and later to the United States in New York learning to run a stock business, and want to get rich.He lives on Long Island, and the story of Gatsby-o, and make friends with them.Gatsby was originally called the gates, and Cab Calloway as from the Midwest, he was born normal but ambitious, due to bootlegging and riches. He used to hold a Grand party at home, dayanbinke, to display its rich, objective is to attract the lovers Daisy five years ago and win back his heart.Five years ago, Gatsby's Daisy when military service was his lover, Gatsby overseas during the first world war, because of greed was born wealthy family married dudes surging economic strength, the spirit world was facing a huge crisis. On the ruins of the old morality, ideals, beliefs, the post-war United States youth slipped into the pursuit of consumption life to enjoy.Money is considered above all gods in the world.Challenges to traditional moral values, and the new value has not been formed. Thus, the Americans in the age of moral turpitude, spiritual emptiness.People dreaming of riches, the pursuit of material to meet and enjoy a social fashion The reasons I love the Great Gatsby There are many reason to love the Great Gatsby: like opening that his father's advice: when you comment on other people's, keep in mind that not all people are like you superior conditions.Like Gatsby, standing on the beach looking at Daisy's Dock Green, looked at him like “stretched out his arms in a strange way”, like the kind of surprise and keen;unknown like Gatsby's mansion on the night of lights, and wind from the garden to the music and laughter, sensual pleasures, horny.Gatsby hiding in this bustling behind the lonely and repressed desire.Love after the death of that human well-being, like looking at the car from another end of the world came to the door of the mansion, but have not found a better dinner had ended. Also like the book's language, metaphor and story-telling way, and delicate but rigorous structure.Only after repeated reading, you will find everyone in the book not only full, independent and invisible and taper up in an episode of the snare, becomes part of the plot. This conclusion, however, in front of the Great Gatsby back into an indefinable weak and dull.In the face of love, Gatsby is always waiting, he found Daisy at the end terminals of the shadows behind her the green light to start, he was caught in a strong pain and guarding, although this watch for seemingly smart people, in many cases, is simply stupid. When we encounter an eyeful only money but tenderness in front of you to say I love you girls how to respond? scarier is that she does not intend to, sincere look in her eyes and you can't shy away from you that nothing in your wallet when maybe we, in response to the speculation can only be embarrassed and silent. But Gatsby realized that she loved him, but he had no money. Thus, Gatsby's tragedy began.Fitzgerald is great that we have so many words to express but also had to shut his mouth, looked at Gatsby irreparable gradually fell to the later built his own love in the backyard garden.

When the ideal runs into the reality

-------the book review of the Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is a significant classic in America literature and Fitzgerald is also considered as a chronicler of the “Jazz Age”.The women characters play an important role in revealing the theme of the novel.Especially the figure Daisy and the contradictions in her has aroused my interests to think carefully about the reason why she would choose that when her ideal ran into the reality.Daisy was once a lovely, elegant and innocent girl when she was “Daisy Fay”.Though Gatsby was a penniless lower class young man, she fell in love with him crazily and happily. While she changed and showed her darker side gradually. She noticed the importance of wealth and position, so she chose to marry to Tom Buchanan though she did not love him as much as Gatsby at that time.Besides, Daisy considered her daughter as a doll and continued playing with those guys.Even until the end, her former lover Gatsby who was wealthy and renowned then came back to her.Considering Gatsby’s illegal sources of money and his inglorious past, Daisy refused to go with Gatsby finally. What annoyed me the most is the plot that Gatsby was murdered because of the misunderstanding of Wilson while Daisy did not attend his funeral. She may have many scruples when her ideal life was disturbed by the cruel reality.Actually everyone may become confused and perplexed when we face the confliction. Also everyone has his own choice. But the point is how much we can afford when confront the result that happened after our decision. The slang “Make friends with local tyrant” is very popular nowadays. We ought to think about the hidden reason for its popularity after we scoff at it.With the fast development of economy, more and more people are lost themselves just like the young generation after the World War Ⅰ.Their value has been or is going to be changed completely. They don’t know what exactly right is and what exactly they are supposed to do.Some students play online games in the dormitory rather than go to the classes. Some staff has become a workaholic in order to deal with the life pressure. Some married stars betrayed their families without remembering their oath.It seems that the whole society has ran out of the regular track. So it is high time that we calmed down and reflected ourselves. What exactly is our final ideal and how could we make it a reality?

Honestly speaking, nobody could live in the society without money. And obviously, almost everyone has been aware of the necessity of money. So no wonder people are struggling and fighting to get more money. But what if the life with plenty money is different from the life we used to dream of? As far as I’m thinking, it is definitely that life is more cruel that we thought and it is impossible that life goes as we designed. We can not own everything that we want to have. What we could do and what we could change is just ourselves. Our choices, our goals or our attitudes all have an impact on the final result. The change may be pretty small, but we ought to believe that the miracle will definitely show up as long as you stick to your ideal goal.So when your ideal is disturbed by the reality, don’t let your original step be disturbed as well.Just follow your heart and be yourself. And I believe that you will finally achieve your goal in the near future.

The disillusion of the American dream

-The Great Gatsby book review

The Great Gatsby is the representative work of American writer Francis Scott Fitzgerald. It is a true reflection of 1920s.The book is a classical novel and has profound meaning of the essence of the American dream’s illusory. The writer showed the American social after the World War I in the book.It uncovers the money worship and hedonism in the Jazz Age and people’s selfishness and indifference in that time. What the novel describes is a tragic story about the disillusion of the American dream. The story happened after the World War I.A young business man named Nick Carraway rent a house in the Long Island. In the opposite house there lives his cousin Daisy Buchanan and her husband Tom

Buchanan. In the villa next lives Jay Gatsby.Gatsby holds big party every weekend in his villa but there is few people has seen his face. After a while Nick knows that when Gatsby was a soldier, he fell in love with Daisy. However, Daisy finally married with a rich man Tom Buchanan. When the war is ended, Gatsby began to do illegal business and become a millionaire in high society. In order to draw Daisy’s attention, he bought a big house in opposite to Daisy’s and often holds big party.Gatsby and Daisy meet again in the help of Nick. When this is known by Tom, he is burst into anger and they have a quarrel. With extremely nervous, Daisy

drives the car and killed Tom’s mistress Myrtle accidentally. However, Tom suggests Myrtle’s husband Wilson that it is Gatsby who killed her wife.In extreme anger Wilson shoot Gatsby and suicide. In the end of the book, when Nick held a funeral for Gatsby, none of his old friends join.Nick is disappointed to the dark high society of New York so he leave the city and go back to his home in the American Midwest. The theme of the novel is to present the tragedy of the American dream’s disillusion by showing the story of Gatsby’s pursuing of dream. The so-called “American dream” means that in America everyone is equality of opportunity.People can realize their dream and achieve success just by themselves’ struggle. The American dream has always been an ideal that people are convinced of and pursue of.It is a kind of spiritual strength that promote America to developing and flourishing quickly. After the World War I, America has entered into an

unprecedented era of prosperity and the American dream becoming a crazy worship to money. The wind of money worship prevailing. So the American dream has been deteriorated as the social develop. In this novel, the short life of Gatsby has go through the process of dream from start to burst. It symbolize the rise and burst of the American dream at the same time. One side of his American Dream is the dream of money. He realize this dream by illegal business which made him from a poor boy to a millionaire. However, the other side of his dream is the

dream of love and it make him into a sad ending. In fact, his loving dream is another form of his money dream. At first when he fell in love with Daisy, he was attracted by her material life.He yearns for not so much Daisy’s love as Daisy’s high society life.Daisy is the combination of love and money which he’s longing for.She is the represent of a beautiful life. However, in real life, Daisy is far from what Gatsby imagine. She is a selfish, shallow and timid girl and all she wants is money and high society life. Finally Gatsby’s dream broken and it also symbolize the broken of the American dream. The essence of the tragedy of Gatsby is the tragedy of American idealism. But then again, although Gatsby’s effort did not pay off, his spirit of struggling to realize his dream and change the fate is moving and deserves our admiration and learning.

Pursuit for dreams

—after reading The Great Gatsby

I have heard of the famous novel The Great Gatsby for many years. However, until recently have I got the time and mood to read it.As soon as I finish reading, I find my previous unwarranted assumption of it totally wrong. This is a story about Gatsby and his pursuit for the ‘American dreams’.During the World War One, the poor soldier Gatsby fell in love with an upper class girl named Daisy. But due to the wide gap between them, Daisy decided to marry Tom, a man of her class, instead of Gatsby.Broken-hearted Gatsby then held the conviction that money was of the greatest importance. He strongly believed in the ‘American dreams’, which as we all know, advocates that one can achieve whatever he or she likes through continuous efforts. He strived for five years to become a millionaire and bought a villa near Daisy’s to attract her.He was too addicted to his fantasy to realize that Daisy was no longer the lovely girl she used to be.Eventually, he was killed because of her crime. After reading it, something reverberates in my heart.I can’t help thinking of the theme Fitzgerald trying to convey. One thing may be the lonely void of people’s spiritual world.I am deeply impressed by chapter 3, where a vivid description of a party is given. There were beautiful girls, drunk men, and boisterous crowds there, but none of them perceived the pointless of their lives and the barren of their minds. To see this phenomenon deeper, there were two circumstances underlying it.The first is the lack of dreams. Some people, especially the people of the upper class, lived an aimless life. They wasted their time and money and took an indifferent attitude towards life. They chased for temporary ecstasy but lost their identity in eternity, namely Daisy and Tom.The second is the misleading of dreams. Some others like Gatsby, bravely pursued their dreams, yet going to a diverged way unconsciously. They might mix up the concept of a richer life and a happier life, viewing a higher social state and a peaceful fulfilled life as equality.Unfortunately, when they were busy chasing their dreams, everything changed with time. When they were anxious about the to-gets, they ignored what they had already had and lost the alert to the constant changes. The excellent use of symbolization illustrates this idea perfectly. The imagery of ‘green light’ is the most important symble which occurred three times in the novel. The green-light’s obscure in the mist indicates the dim of Gatsby’s dreams. As far as I am concerned, this story can serve as a reminder for us.To live a meaningful life, we should carefully choose some dreams to pursue. And in the process of fulfilling our dreams, we

should always be concious about what we really desire.Anyhow, only by pursuing the proper dreams can we finally get to the deep springs of happiness.

The Great Gatsby

Reading experience:

I start to read the book about 3 weeks ago ,At first, I searched some information about the author from the Internet, then glanced the basic content of novel, When I read the several chapters ahead of the novel, I feel it was so boring , the complex relationship would kill me.When I nearly finished the novel, everything was suddenly enlightened.Information about this novel:

The novel is told us the story of Gatsby by Nick’s tone.Nick came to New York from his hometown the America Middle West, and he rent a small house nearby Gatsby’s luxurious mansion where hold a grand banquet every night. The story began with the meet between Nick and Gatsby. And Nick had an exploratory interest to Gatsby and understood that there was a lost love in Gatsby’s deep heart.Gatsby and Daisy loved each other when Gatsby was young, but because of Gatsby’s poor family they were broken up.Then G.joined the First World War.While Daisy was married to Tom who was a rich dandy, but her marriage was not happy because Tom had a mistress. Therefore, the material couldn’t satisfy her spiritual empty.Gatsby was very painful and he believed that Daisy betrayed the pure heart for the money, so he resolved to be a man of wealth and a few years later he managed it.What’s more, in the opposite direction of Daisy’s house Gatsby built a mansion. In order to attract Daisy and aroused the lost love, Gatsby spent money like water.Nick was moved by Gatsby’s passion of love, so he visited to his young female cousin Daisy and told her Gatsby’s mind. Then Gatsby made date with Daisy, often. Finally, Gatsby found Daisy’s vanity, vulgar and selfish.Gatsby’s pink dream finally broke up, but he still insisted it, still retained any illusion about Daisy, and even led to his tragedies. One day Daisy was in a drunken driving Gatsby’s car ran over and caused an accident that killed Tom’s mistress, and she planned a plot with Tom to put the crime to Gatsby. It led to the mistress’ husband shot Gatsby.Gatsby died, only his father and Nick attended the funeral.Nick witnessed the virtual mood of human reality. At the end, Nick backed to his hometown with a tragedy mood.Introduction of the author:

The Great Gatsby is written by F.Scott Fitzgerald, who was born in1896 and died in Hollywood in 1940, and grew up in St.Paul, Minnesota. He is the most important representative of the “Jazz Age”.He published the novel Tender is the Night, Paradise, the Last Tycoon and so on;and published over 160 short novels, for instance, Benjamin’s Fantasy Trip, Ice Palace, Winter Dream and so on.The twentieth century, the United States academic community selected 100 the best novels in the river of English literature. The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night are the list. And The Great Gatsby is second. He first published The Great Gatsby on April 10, 1925, a story set in Island’s North Shore and New York City during the summer of 1922.Impression on the novel:

After reading the novel, I was deeply shocked by Gatsby’s persistence, dream, and his miserable ending, and impressed more about the “Jazz Age”.In American history, maybe“ it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way”.The Gates ratio is the 20's models American youth,he was young and full of passion to realize all his dreams ,which could have been a perfect character in any times. However, he was poor, and this, which made him become a tragic character, also was the focus in that age-“Jazz Age”.Gates compares in order to pursue the black eyebrow coloring alizarin red to exhaust own sentiment and the ability and wisdom, finally ruined own life.“There was a faint, barely perceptible movement of the water as the fresh flow from one end urged its way toward the drain at the other. With little ripples that was hardly the shadows ofwaves ,the laden mattress moved irregularly down the pool.”A hopeless ending indicates that the most beautiful dream in that age was eventually

destroyed by the reality, the social. We can clearly know that Daisy did not choose Gatsby although he had become much more affluent than Tom ,but choose her previous life-living with Tom,it may be a bad choise, but it was really the decision made by Daisy herself,a selfish, disingenuous and vain girl, the girl which Gastby always loved and was willing to pay everything he has for ,even she betrayed more than once, and this can be inferred when Gastby showed his love and she hesitated.Shutting the book,I am deep in thought. The author tries to describe the social, the so-called up class ,the so-called prosperous country, and certainly the shattered“the American dream”.In my opinion, the author not only wants to attack the luxury and hypocrisy of the classes, but also to appeal to people to pursue true love, not the greed of money and

hypocrisy, although this book has a desperate ending.
