2.1切合主题、易于表达
演讲中所使用的一切技巧都是为了演讲的主题所服务的，偏离了主题的幽默，只会让听众备感迷茫，因此，在选择幽默的素材时，一定要确定幽默与主题之间联系是否紧密，并且对素材进行适当改写，使得自己想要突出的主题更加明晰，增加演讲的可听性与带入性。2.2通俗易懂，新鲜地道 演讲就是为了让听众能够理解演讲者所想要表达的，并且能够附和演讲者的观点，选择幽默素材时，自然要以此准则进行选择。过于生涩难懂的幽默固然内涵深刻，可是却不能引起听众的共鸣，尤其是在英语演讲中，对词汇的选择也要有所考虑，过多的非必要高级词汇的使用，很可能大部分听众并不能听懂，更不要说引起共鸣了。适当的对所选幽默素材进行改编，用常见词汇来表达其含义，能得到更好的效果。我们做英语演讲，不仅仅只是用英语来进行演讲，不是对演讲稿进行翻译在说出来而已。而是要think in american way，因此要对英美文化有一定了解，要懂得在英美文化里的“笑点”在于哪里，才能让演讲变得幽默而地道。

举例的幽默精髓在于贴切。如何将幽默与论点联系起来呢？类推法就是一种能够有效的方法。类推法通过举例另一件事，展现它与论点之间的联系。建立这种联系是创造的核心，可以确保幽默运用得当。有个通货监理官在关于调控工具如何用于提升健全的银行系统的演讲中运用了这样一个幽默：“我的一个朋友在20世纪80年代的上半期强烈渴望有一部汽车电话，最终，他说服自己那并不奢侈，而是一个必需品，因此他买了一部。在买到电话的那一天，他从车上打电话告诉我这个消息，然后大约有一个月的时间我再见过他。最后，我在大街上看到他，他好像很沮丧的样子，我问他怎么了，他说是汽车电话的事。“怎么了？”我问道，“你所做的任何事都比不上你想要那部电话。”他回答说：“是的，但是每次它一响我就要去修车厂，我已经筋疲力尽了。”调控如同电话一样是工具，既可以有效使用，也可能误用。演讲者利用电话预调控的相通点，将幽默与论点紧密的联系起来。3.2表情的幽默
表情的幽默的精髓在于用面部表情将情感与观点最鲜明、最恰当的显示出来，演讲者通过自己的面部表情变化对听众施加心理影响，搭建起演讲者与听众交流思想情感的桥梁。美国前总统罗斯福就是一个善于用表情的幽默来丰富演讲内容的人。有人在回忆罗斯福演讲时说20分钟的时间里，罗斯福先生的脸上表现出诧异、好奇，故作吃惊、真正的兴趣、焦虑、同情、幽默、尊严和无比的魅力，但是他几乎没有说出什么东西。分析罗斯福的演讲的专家认为，他的演讲往往更注重面部表情，有时说得很少，他的表情已经传达了更多的准确的有效地信息。
3.3语音语调的幽默
语音语调的幽默精髓在于发声时的情感。在一个ted演讲中，一位经济学家分析当前全球经济形势下各国不同态度时，模仿了两个不同的女人就财务管理方法吵架的情形，他以尖细 而挑剔的语调模仿态度激进的女人的说话声音，以憨厚而坚持的语调模仿态度保守的女人的说话声音，不时穿插自己的原声，使得演讲一下生动起来，让听众在了解了双方不同的心理活动后，能够跟随着演讲者的思维，以一种客观的态度来分析问题，最终演讲获得了满堂喝彩。将情感带入语音语调中，才能使幽默的内容变得绘声绘色，才能更清楚的体现出演讲者的观点与态度，才能使幽默的效果达到最优。
