youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind;it is not rosy cheeks , red lips and supple knees, it is a matter of the emotions : it is the freshness;it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite , for adventure over the love of ease.this often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20.nobody grows old merely by a number of years.we grow old by deserting our ideals.years wrinkle the skin , but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.worry , fear , self –distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.en369.cnwhether 60 of 16 , there is in every human being ‘s heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living.in the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young.when the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.thank you!

a lot of measures have been taken.planting trees helps improve and beautify the environment.besides, laws concerning environmental protection have been put into effect and achieved good results.however, the problem of environmental protection remains far from being solved.on the one hand, the environment pollution and

hiding power of a smile笑容的隐藏力量

i started my journey in california with a uc berkley 30-year longitudinal study that examined the photos of students in an old yearbook and tried to measure their success and well-being throughout their life.by measuring their student smiles, researchers were able to predict how fulfilling and long-lasting a subjects marriage will be, how well she would score on standardized tests of well-being and how inspiring she would be to others.in another yearbook, i stumbled upon barry obamas picture.when i first saw his picture, i thought that these superpowers came from his super collar.but now i know it was all in his smile. another aha!moment came from a 2010 wayne state university research project that looked into pre-1950s baseball cards of major league players.the researchers found that the span of a players smile could actually predict the span of his life.players who didnt smile in their pictures lived an average of only 72.9 years, where players with beaming smiles lived an average of almost 80 years. the good news is that were actually born smiling.using 3d ultrasound technology, we can now see that developing babies appear to smile, even in the womb.when theyre born, babies continue to smile--initially, mostly in their sleep.and even blind babies smile to the sound of the human voice.smiling is one of the most basic, biologically-uniform expressions of all humans. how many people here in this room smile more than 20 times per day? raise your hand if you do.oh, wow.outside of this room, more than a third of us smile more than 20 times per day, whereas less than 14 percent of us smile less than five.in fact, those with the most amazing superpowers are actually children who smile as many as 400 times per day.

have you ever wondered why being around children who smile so frequently makes you smile very often? a recent study at uppsala university in sweden found that its very difficult to frown when looking at someone who smiles.you ask, why? because smiling is evolutionarily contagious, and it suppresses the control we usually have on our facial muscles.mimicking a smile and experiencing it physically help us understand whether our smile is fake or real, so we can understand the emotional state of the smiler. in a recent mimicking study at the university of clermont-ferrand in france, subjects were asked to determine whether a smile was real or fake while holding a pencil in their mouth to repress smiling muscles.without the pencil, subjects were excellent judges, but with the pencil in their mouth, when they could not mimic the smile they saw, their judgment was impaired. in addition to theorizing on evolution in the origin of species, charles darwin also wrote the facial feedback response theory.his theory states that the act of smiling itself actually makes us feel better--rather than smiling being merely a result of feeling good.in his study, darwin actually cited a french neurologist, guillaume duchenne, who used electric jolts to facial muscles to induce and stimulate smiles.please, dont try this at home.

in a related german study, researchers used fmri imaging to measure brain activity before and after injecting botox to suppress smiling muscles.the finding supported darwins theory by showing that facial feedback modifies the neural processing of emotional content in the brain in a way that helps us feel better when we smile.smiling stimulates our brain reward mechanism in a way that even chocolate--a well-regarded pleasure inducer--cannot match.

british researchers found that one smile can generate the same level of brain stimulation as up to 2,000 bars of chocolate.(laughter)wait.the same study found that smiling is as stimulating as receiving up to 16,000 pounds sterling in cash.thats like 25 grand a smile.its not bad.and think about it this way: 25,000 times 400--quite a few kids out there feel like mark zuckerberg every day.

and, unlike lots of chocolate, lots of smiling can actu ally make you healthier.smiling can help reduce the level of stress-enhancing hormones like cortisol, adrenaline and dopamine, increase the level of mood-enhancing hormones like endorphin and reduce overall blood pressure.

what fear can teach us恐惧可以教会我们什么

one day in 1819, 3,000 miles off the coast of chile, in one of the most remote regions of the pacific ocean, 20 american sailors watched their ship flood with seawater.1819年的某一天,在距离智利海岸3000英里的地方,有一个太平洋上的最偏远的水域,20名美国船员目睹了他们的船只进水的场面。

theyd been struck by a sperm whale, which had ripped a catastrophic hole in the ships hull.as their ship began to sink beneath the swells, the men huddled together in three small whaleboats.

these men were 10,000 miles from home, more than 1,000 miles from the nearest scrap of land.in their small boats, they carried only rudimentary navigational equipment and limited supplies of food and water. these were the men of the whaleship essex, whose story would later inspire parts of moby dick. even in todays world, their situation would be really dire, but think about how much worse it would have been then.

we know how fear feels, but im not sure we spend enough time thinking about what our fears mean. as we grow up, were often encouraged to think of fear as a weakness, just another childish thing to discard like baby teeth or roller skates. and i think its no accident that we think this way.neuroscientists have actually shown that human beings are hard-wired to be optimists.

so maybe thats why we think of fear, sometimes, as a danger in and of itself.dont worry, we like to say to one another.dont panic.in english, fear is something we conquer.its something we fight.

如果我们把恐惧当做是想象力的一个惊人成果,是和我们讲故事一样 精妙而有见地的东西,又会如何呢? its easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid. when i was a child, i lived in california, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, california could also be a little scary.

i remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and i sometimes couldnt sleep at night, terrified that the big one might strike while we were sleeping.

and what we say about kids who have fears like that is that they have a vivid imagination.but at a certain point, most of us learn to leave these kinds of visions behind and grow up.

we learn that there are no monsters hiding under the bed, and not every earthquake brings buildings down.but maybe its no coincidence that some of our most creative minds fail to leave these kinds of fears behind as adults.

Where There Is A Will, There Is A Way Hello,Everyone! It is my great honor to stand here and giving the speech on the title of: Where there is a will, there is a way.I believe that a lot of people have a dream in the heart,so do I.But many people don't realize their dreams.People always say that there are a lot of difficulties to stop them. But actually they don’t have a strong will.In fact, everything doesn’t always sail with the wind.Looking at the world, behind which a successful no hard sweat, one of which is not full of success for the difficult? In the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Chinese athletes have got very good achievement. But behind a lot of heavy medals, they paid much unimaginable pain.Such as Sun Yang,an outstanding Chinese athlete, has won a great number of prizes of swimming in different international competitions. With the love of swimming,he trained before at 6:00 every morningeven he was hurt. But he's got the same reward, and with his indomitable spirit, he achieved.I’m going to be a writer when I grow up.For that reason, I usually read books every day.I always remind myself that I must go on.Never give up.I know I should do it to succeed. If a man wants to succeed, he must go through all kinds of hardships, he can really succeed. No one's success is easy to get,so learn to make his will more powerful and firmer, never give up halfway and decid to achieve your ambitions. From what I have mentioned above, we can see that one of the most important factors of success is to have a strong will.Maybe on the wayto success, you will meet many more difficulties than you think, even those difficulties are impossible to conquer your past. Here goes the saying: Where there is a will, there is a way.A man will strong will, he will defeat all difficulties, and make this road full of thorns into a flat road. That’s all, thank you!

Ecotourism

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.Today I would like to begin with a story. There was once a physical therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a census about mountain gorillas. These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world;this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into the zoo.She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs.Dian Fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go.It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur--natural scenes aren't natural anymore.Deforestation to heat lodges is devastating Nepal.Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica.Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks. All these appalling facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been eroding our resources.Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made 2002 the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our ecoenvironmen. Now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection organizations are receiving donations--big notes, small notes or even coins--from housewives, plumbers, ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and invalids. Some of them can not afford to send the money but they do.These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care.Because they still want their Mother Nature back.Because they know it still belongs to them. This kind of feeling that I have, ladies1

and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it, it's all coming from a scene to remember, a scene to recall and to cherish. The other night, as I saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs.I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seem to have been except the deer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's time for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.Once again, I have come to think of Mrs.Dian Fossey because it's with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our ecoenvironment that we are taking our next step into the world. And no matter who we are, what we do and where we go, in our mind, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it.Thanks, contestant number18.The topic for your impromptu speech is: Which is more important for you, knowledge from books or personal experience?

I remember, on my very first day of my beloved university, one of my professors said to me, “From now on, you'll be on a journey between who you think you are and who you can be.The key is to allow yourself to continue the journey in the ocean of the books.”

And I do learn a lot from books, I know the geometry of Euclid, logic of Aristotle, fable of Aesop known to children around the world.Well, no offense to all those great authors of the books, but during my three years at my university, I do realize that personal experience through practice means more to me.As we are in this global information age where both economic growth and individual opportunity are based on ideas, a commitment to providing all human beings the golden opportunity to develop themselves is so vital, not only to the people here, but all around. As we are in this transformational age where communications and commerce are global, investments are mobile, technology is almost magical, and the ambition for a better life is now universal, and I think this is why we are here today. We want to earn our personal experience through practicing our oral English, sharing our opinions of tourism and ecology with all the judges and audience here. And I think we are so lucky to be alive at this moment of the history.Never before have our nation enjoyed so much prosperity and so much social progress with so little internal crises. And never before have our young people had so much great opportunity to practice ourselves and, therefore, have a profound obligation to build a more perfect nation of our ancestor's dream. And I think our government had provided us young people with the tools and condition to build the future of our dreams.Even if we know some rules, some regulations, or experiences from our books, we still simply cannot graft it onto today's busier, more impersonal, complicated world.Instead our challenges is to arrive at a consensus values and common vision of what we can do today individually and collectively to build a strong family and strong community, and above all, make the world a better place for us to live.Contestant number 18, in your speech, you talked about ecotourism.Could you explain to us the difference between ordinary tourism and e-tourism, or ecotourists?

And I think the key issue is the differences between our awareness. For example, if you want to go to a place to have a trip, enjoy your trip. And I think before you get on board, get on the bus, you can have the awareness that “I'm not a polluter, but an environment keeper.”

We're not go to all those scenic spots to destroy all those beautiful scenes but we to appreciate the Mother Nature giving us so much things.Contestant number 18, now that information technology is becoming more and more accessible to people in China, do you think books will become less and less important?

Well, I think, maybe, I don't think that all those technologies can replace the importance of books. We're in our modern village where so many new industries--IT industries, tourism industries--crop up every day and this brave new world seem a little bit dehumanizing and inhospitable to a lot of people. The world can no longer be defined as a place on a map or list or people in organizations, but I think the true value, the essence of our village remains the same.It is the network of values relationship that support our lives and we can learn those things from our books, because books is the very first beginning stage of what we learn.I'd like to ask you a question about your prepared speech, please. You mention that the UN has declared the year 2002, I think it was, “The year of Ecotourism.” Do you think that such gestures really serve a purpose?

And I think, one of my teachers said to me, when I prepared my prepared speech, and he tells me that if we pay more attention to something like environmental protection or ecotourism, it is more, it is better for us to bear in mind we should learn something in our awareness about how to pay more respect to our environment, not to talk about something orally but to bear something in our hearts.Follow our hearts, our environment can be better.

yes, yes, yes, its a new day, its a different day, and its a bright day!and most importantly, it is a new beginning for your life, a beginning where you are going to make new desicisions, take new actions, make new friends, and take your life to a totally unprecedented level!in your minds eye, you can see clearly the things you want to have, the paces you intend to go, the relationships you desire to develop, and the positions you aspire to reach.you can hear your laughters of joy and happineon the day when everything happens as you dream.you can see the smiles on the people around you when the magic moment strikes.you can feel your face is getting red, your heart is beating fast, and your blood is rushing all over your body, to every single corner of your being!篇二:英语演讲小短文 smiling i think smiling is as important as sunshine.smiling is like sunshine because it can make people happy and have a good day.if you aren?t happy, you can smile, and then you will feel happy.someone may say, “but i don?t feel happy.” then i would say, “please smile as you do when you are happy or play with your friends happily.you will really be happy again.”

smiling can let you have more friends.so i say, smiling is like a flower.it will give you happiness.

how to get happiness

there is no doubt that happiness is the most precious thing in the world.without it, life will be empty and meaningless.if you wish to know how to get happiness, you must pay attention to the following two points.first, health is the secret of happiness(the key to happiness).only a strong man can enjoy the pleasure of life.secondly, happiness consists in contentment.a man who is dissatisfied with his present condition is always in distress. industry(diligence)勤勉

it is a matter of course that industry will bring us success, wealth and good luck.i am sure that a hard-working person can always succeed in the work which he wants to do.this is unchangeable truth.idleness is the opposite of industry.it is the source of all evil.an idle man only enjoys playing and making pleasures.that he is doomed to failure is of no doubt.we should not follow his example. whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human beings heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of whats next and the joy of the game of living.in the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long are you young.

a true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.

theres always going to be people that hurt you, so what you have to do is keep on trusting and just be more careful about who you trust next time around. make yourself a better person and know who you are before you try and know someone else and expect them to know you. remember: whatever happens, happens for a reason.

how many people actually have 8 true friends? hardly anyone i know.but some of us have all right friends and good friends. love your life 热爱生活

篇三:英语演讲小短文 the life i desired 我所追求的生活

Good morning , ladies and Gentlemen

Today it is my great honor to be here and make a speech about my view on computer games.I would like to begin with a story. It is about my elder cousin. He is 24 now. What a great and beautiful age ,full of hope, dream , and success. But all these beautiful things are so far away him , a murderer who has been kept him in prison for two years. He used to be a top student in senior high school. But since he fell in love with computer gemes,he spent all of his time sitting in front of the screen , crazily playing those computer games day and night. As a result , his school records turned out to be a mess. What’s more , one day he had a quarrel with his partner. My cousin grabbed an cap and hit heavily on his partner’head. That was the tragedy, for both of them.So my view is strong , definite , and clear.Down with computer games!

Nowadays children are spending far too much time on computer games. They don’t realize that computer games are in fact nothing but a great waste of time , money and energy. They don’t realize how harmful the computer games are to their physical and mental growth.First of all ,many children are so much appeal to computer games that they even forget food and sleep. It is very bad for their phsical health. For example , children desert the football ground as they all sit at home around the computer plauing the games which are noisy , and will damage their eyes and ears.As a result , children cannot be physically fit and strong.Secondly , computer games distract children’s attention form their studies. They finish their homework in a hurry , or even copy their classmates’, in order to squeeze time to play games.Thirdy ,some computer games are filled with violence and sex.Children are too young to tell right from wrong. They may blindly imitate the bad behavior.Computer gamesare realy extremely harmful to their mental growth. Therefore ,down with computer games! They are just fantasy.Young people should be encouraged to do more meaningful and museums. They should be encouraged to set a real goal in life and pursue their great ideals All in all , down with computer games!.
