拜托！中国与虐待动物有关的问题够多的了，不需要任何类似西班牙斗牛、日本鲸鱼肉和加拿大海豹制品之类的“外援”。如果又以老掉牙的“文化传统”来忽悠人那还是趁早歇了吧，将心比心，要不要我们把活熊取胆、吃猫吃狗的“传统”也输入到你们那疙瘩去试试？！我们需要引进的是与时俱进、真正造福于千秋万代、所有生命共同体共享的世界文明的优秀成果，而不是类似加拿大海豹
制品这样的血腥产品。
但凡需要被保护的注定都是境况堪忧的弱者。被爱称为“大眼睛的海洋精灵”的海洋哺乳动物“海豹分布在全球各处海域，也出现在神秘的贝加尔湖。它们在陆地上憨态可掬，在水中却优雅自如；它们和人类拥有相近的体温，却将极地的严寒视若等闲。尽管拥有强大的生存能力和惹人怜爱的外表，它们却不能幸免于全球变暖和海洋污染的威胁，更不能逃离人类逐利的棍棒和枪口。为了保护它们，人们把每年的3月1日定为‘国际海豹日’”。这是一段在介绍海豹及国际海豹日时经常被人引用的文字。
让我们看看猎杀海豹是怎样一个营生吧。目前，全世界共有五个国家允许商业海豹猎杀，它们分别是加拿大、格陵兰岛、纳米比亚、挪威和俄罗斯。每年商业捕杀约30万只海豹的加拿大居世界之首，该国政府支持这一捕杀行动。近三年，加拿大猎杀了近100万头海豹。动物保护组织称，这意味着每出生3头海豹就有至少1头被杀。一年一度的海豹捕杀场面极为血腥。为了完整地剥下海豹皮卖个好价钱，许多海豹被顶端带有尖钩的棍棒活活打死，接近一半的海豹仍在清醒状态即被扒皮。海豹们遭棒打或枪击后不会马上死亡，而是承受着巨大痛苦慢慢死去。如果被杀的是母海豹则当场开膛剥皮、剥剩的血肉弃于原地。如是公海豹则用铁钩穿过脑袋上的窟窿拖到渔船上送进加工厂加工。如果这还不够惨，那么还有一个更令人触目惊心的事实是，被残杀的海豹中有80%是处于12天至1岁的幼年海豹-那些混沌未开、还没来得对这个世界说声“你好！”的毛茸茸、大眼睛的小天使们。近年来那些“聪明的脑瓜”
针对东方市场又想出了从海豹身上赚钱的新门路，那就是所谓的海豹鞭市场。其猎取手段也更加残忍——活生生地将雄海豹的生殖器用斧头剁下然后弃之如敝履。
在物质严重匮乏的年代，海豹曾因“浑身是宝”而使猎杀海豹在该国东海岸地区成为一项“传统产业”。而今加拿大早已步入最发达国家之列，猎杀海豹所获得的收益不及主要猎杀区纽芬兰省财政总收入的1%、渔业总收入的1.2%（美国人道对待动物协会和国际爱护动物基金会2005年数据）。根据加拿大政府网站公布的数据，2009年的商业海豹猎杀所带来的经济效益不足100万欧元。绝大部分加拿大人对此持反对态度，2005年的民意调查结果显示，69%的加拿大人反对商业海豹猎杀，而77%的人反对政府资助海豹猎杀。“海豹捕猎的最大受益者是部分政客，他们利用海豹贸易来赢得加拿大东部（主要是指纽芬兰省）的选票。”
对于这一堪称“当今世界上对于海洋哺乳动物最大规模的血腥屠杀”，全球各地的反对之声一浪高过一浪。经过国际动物权益组织数年的呼吁，2009年5月5日，欧洲议会以压倒性多数通过了一项法案，在欧盟范围内全面禁止进口海豹制品，其中包括海豹毛皮、海豹油及其所有相关产品，并于去年8月正式对27个会员国执行禁令。此举使得全球各地的众多消费者也纷纷开始拒买海豹皮制品，导致该国出产的海豹皮制品滞销，价格也随之大跌。一张海豹皮的价格若干年前为100多美元，目前已跌至14美元。各界有识之士强烈呼吁在全球范围内关闭海豹制品的消费市场，“这样就可以从源头上结束海豹制品贸易。”
面对欧洲、美国和全球各地的抵制浪潮，加国主管部门垂死挣扎，想出各种馊招。2010年03月12日晚，央视“东方时空”播出了题为“加拿大抗议欧盟禁令 国会办‘海豹宴’”的新闻。其中一个长着“标准鞋拔子脸”的男政客将一块海豹肉塞进嘴里大嚼，还夸张地闭上眼睛作出“好吃极了”的手势，那副嘴脸着实令人作呕，难怪被用作该条新闻的题图照片。为了“维持加拿大海豹皮业的生机”，世界最大的毛皮产品生产国和出口国、世界裘革最具潜力的消费市场中国被该国联邦渔业部长舍雅(Gail Shea)锁定为救市出路，咱们中国何其“有幸”！
虽然有地方政府和企业的支持（项目的合作方是我们这个共和国首都的怀柔区），西班牙斗牛项目二度在国内外的反对声浪中告吹；日本人似乎也未能成功地向中国人推销据说是高蛋白低脂肪的鲸鱼肉。现在，轮到我们在海豹制品问题上作出取舍了。
拿什么拯救你，大眼睛的海中精灵-海豹？
没有买卖，就没有杀戮。
该是结束这一残忍而过时的产业的时候了。
