但是，有些人对动物是令人发指的。在过去的3年来竟然有6万头大象被屠杀！这是为什么呢？原来有些贪婪的人只是为大那对象牙！这们的屠杀让大象数量锐减，现在仅存约50万头。不仅如此，现在的老虎也在遭受着灭绝的厄运：目前被列入国家一级保护动物的华南虎，现在人们竟然无法找到它的活体！如果一直这们不断地砍杀下去，动物们就会对人类十分怀恨，人类与动物彼此之间更加陌生的，更加冷淡，地球就不会生机勃勃的，这将会是一个多么恐怖的悲剧啊！

读了《老猫》，我心中情不自禁地人类发出呼吁：亲爱的人类，动物是人类最好的朋友，如果缺少了这些可爱的生灵，地球将会多么冷清啊！请保护人类的好朋友--动物，珍惜彼此之间美好的友谊吧！

读季羡林老先生的《老猫》，仿佛一位年长的智者在娓娓地讲述他丰富的一生，虽是暮年，却听不到无奈和悔恨，听到的全然是一种豁达和智慧。

季老喜爱动物，酷爱养猫，对猫有一种特殊的感情。他写的《老猫》，幽默，细腻，感人。他对波斯猫的喜爱到了跟他们一起乐，一起悲，甚至跟它们住一起。晚上猫睡在自己的被窝上面，为了避免惊动小帽，他醒来硬是忍着不动一下。他把它们完全看作了自己的朋友。

跟怀有各种各样动机去爱宠物的一些人不同，他关心身边这些“伙伴”的命运，甚至为它们背着沉重的感情十字架，为一些孤苦、弱小生灵的命运伤感、悲苦。他经常为一些小动物、小花草惹起万斛闲愁，为一些小猫小狗流泪叹气。有一次，燕园中他平常最爱走的幽径上一棵古藤无故被人砍断，他看到藤萝上初绽的淡紫的一串串的花还没来得及知道厄运信息，还在绿叶丛中微笑，忍不住为它们伤感：“它们仿佛成了失掉母亲的.孤儿，不久就会微笑不下去，连痛哭都没有地方了。”

在《老猫》这本散文集中谈到最多的恐怕就是死亡了：老朋友的离去，心爱老猫的离去，自己的即将离去，但我读不出伤悲，最多是一种怀念，怀念中充满着一种达观，这种达观是很难学到的。

不过，我倒是读出了自己的危机。假如自己已是耄耋之年，自己会对一生作何感想？是悔恨遗憾，还是对后人的干瘪告诫？生命如此宝贵，但自己却好像在过别人的生命，挥霍起来毫无节制，真是可怕！我是不惮于想到死的，因为这样我会清醒一些。回避死亡会让平庸的生活淡漠了希望和思考，回避死亡会让机械的生活扼杀了激情和创造力。热爱生命，就要尊重死亡。

生命再长不过百年，生命不息，学习不止。季老就是如此。我们作为一代青年，难道不应该从中学习到很多东西吗，我们学习他的平凡、朴素，学习他待人诚恳、热情的精神。我们学习他淡泊明志，博爱的精神，学习他工作勤恳扎实的精神。我们应该学习更多……

在我们的生活中，每个人，每个动物，甚至每颗草，都有一个生老病死的过程。在暑假里，我读了季羡林的一本名叫《怀念母亲》的书中的一篇小故事《老猫》，我不禁深有感触，彻底明白了一个道理。

这个故事主要讲了季羡林先生和四只猫的动人故事。其中，老猫虎子和咪咪是他讲述的重点。虎子是一只爱憎感情非常强烈的猫，它只对主人温顺，但咪咪来到后，虎子像照顾儿女一样照顾它，并细心呵护咪咪的孩子。但是咪咪在八九岁的时候，渐渐地有了衰弱的迹象，甚至有了死亡的征兆。但它没有选择留在主人的家里，让认识它的人难过伤心，而是自己在一个谁也找不到的地方悄悄死去，把活着的美好时光留给主人回味。

在中国历史上赫赫有名的人物，秦皇、汉武，还有唐宗，想法设法，千方百计，想求得长生不老，到头来，仍然是竹篮子打水——一场空。季老认为，每个人到头来都是黄土一抔，何必要用尽心思求长生不老呢。一个人早死几天，多活几个小时，也是影响不了地球转动，影响不了社会的前进。

我想，就拿明朝皇帝嘉靖来说吧，他一直在追求长生不老，不问朝政，因此在他的领导下，大明帝国民不聊生，奸臣当道，当时盛传一句话叫：“嘉靖嘉靖家家净。”而他自己也并未获得长生不老，这不正说明嘉靖他所做的一切都是徒劳吗？

但是也有很多人活在当下，活出自己的风采，像身残志坚的霍金，虽然全身不能动，说话也只能用语言合成器，但是仍然发愤图强，写出了著作的《时间简史》。像今年奥运会上的“刀锋战士”，装着假肢，却不肯参加残奥会，他用自己的行动和毅力证明自己的能力，我认为他就是把握住当下，活出了自己的人生境界。

每个人都会死，那就要活好每分每秒，让自己的每一分钟都活的有意义，活的精彩。我想，也许我们无法改变生命的长度，但是只要我们活好当下，一定能增加生命的宽度。
