When I was five years old I was aware that I had a mature kindergarten child.I love music and I had a DVD in my home ,this DVD named “One people one song”, I am next to listen again, instantly fell in love with “taoshengyijiu” and “September nine” the two songs, but my father think this two song singers are not very grade, he has been giving me a concept is: Song Zuying is my idol! And is very active in teaching me to sing “love my China”.I don't want to say that the name of Song
Zuying has a profound influence on me!When the primary school and the students to discuss pop music, people asked me who sang the song “waving wings of the girl” ? I answered: Song Zuying!By the way, when I was five years old I have learned to swim, since then every summer I go swimming in the river, so my skin is very dark, people call me Coal kid, I hate them!
When I was six years old and I was in primary school , the first thing is about to fight the needle, I have a classmate called Zhang Jie, he did not give an injection
began to cry, we laugh at him for a long time!In fact, I also cried, but the students did not find! The second thing is that one day when we are in class, there is a mad rush in our class and neck of the head of our class teacher! Our class teacher was frightened!Later we Dean came, he went up to a madman, but children is still suffering from the shock, I actually do not want to cry, really, but I cried, a little taste of the crowd. The second grade I am remember, the third grade and the second grade is similar, but
Wendy and Emma in my life, Emma was small, I always bullied her, Wendy does not love me, and I did too.So in fact, I and Wendy and Emma their friendship is not built from an early age, but later we become very good friends! When I was in the fourth grade, my classmates in our class Tom to bring a bunch of frog eggs, this pile of frog eggs is very good in our science teacher to help teaching us a lesson , the teacher was put into a Petri dish, then developed into tadpoles after the fountain, then around the pool in the classroom and it made us always hear the toad call, it was really evil!
What big deal in grade five? Oh!We have a grade outing, then put a piece of bamboo were burned, and then after school no longer had a spring outing!
My childhood was unforgettable. When I was five years old, I went to the
kindergarten every day.I had a lot of good time with my little friends. My parents took good care of me.I didn’t need to care about food and clothes and any other things.I was very happy in those days. But one day, my mother told me that she
wouldn't pick me up after school.I was afraid of going home alone, so I started to cry and I was angry with my mother.Although I insisted that she and my father should protect me safely, they still disagreed with me.They thought it was good for me to learn to be independent. The next day after class, I had to take a bus to go back home.I forgot to see the bus route when I got on.Therefore, when the bus was more and more far from my home, I felt anxious. Finally, I got the last stop, and then took the same bus back home. When I told my parents my story, they never thought it is a
mistake, on the contrary, they thought it is a useful experience. From then on, I don't let them meet me after school any more.In my childhood, filled with a lot of interesting young Fun, will not help laughing sometimes question that all of us should ask.One thing that made me worry about a new memory.I remember that during the last one year when Sunday morning, I was sitting comfortably on the sofa and watch television with relish.Inadvertently, I saw on television a chicken farm in the chicken, all kinds, colors, yellow, white, a very lovely.Small brain, the eyes turn round stop, coupled with the hairy body, especially elicit people like.I felt I needed to have an idea of buying a handful of chick-let.Mom in the kitchen cooking, I went to my mother around grinning, and said : “Mother, father to father, I have bought a few chicks!Overtime, it will give you time to buy, ah? ”I have a lot of pouting and said “ I really hate!”You know they collapsed on the sofa again, a second time to have passed.Suddenly, I scare up, the refrigerator is not the egg? I think about while talking to himself on, do it!Won two eggs through the refrigerator“ Hen hatching chicks depending on the temperature of the eggs were
hatched to, if I were to the hatching, eggs are being squeezed easily broken.Dad back, the storm will soon have to open their eyes, into a bedroom, opened quilts, sleeping only heard the father was not named soon, I immediately went past, and my father was out of paper shining his pants.I secretly smiled, and her mother came running over and down the back of the skull.Dad angry and said Hey you, is not a good thing you do? I will detail in the dark to tell the parents. We all I always dream about returning to the past.As many people say, childhood is the happiest and easiest time in one’s life.Children show you their true emotions. In their world, all real thoughts are presented. They may easily have different opinions with others, but they never understand what animosity is.They enjoy making friends but they never think about making social communication net.Every child talks from the bottom of his heart without evil plans hidden and never intrigues against each other.Only in children’s way can adults make our life simple, more real and more enjoyable.I wish everyone’s heart would keep as innocent and lovely as they ever did in their childhood. Then, the walls between our hearts can be broken down and the world would be a better place to live in.l laughed, and her mother rubbed my small brain, dumb children, no eggs were hatched chicks. It made me understand a Profound truth that people should not blindly do, but after careful thought, and action. How does someone rediscover their childhood? I have people who are only a
year older than me saying, “You’re so young”.“Enjoy your youth”, they lament, “I’m so old now.” I laugh and think to myself, “I had no idea aging one year could be so horrible.” Nonetheless, hearing them say this makes me reflect on my own life when I was a child.I end up surprising myself when I realize that something I remember so
vividly happened so long ago.“How is that possible?” I wonder.Where did my
childhood go? What does it mean to seek my childhood? The truth is I cannot answer this question until I know when my childhood has ended? Where and at what time? Was it when I turned 13 or 15 or 18? Did it end when I could go places by myself? Did my childhood end when I graduated from high school or will it end when I
graduate from university? Could it be when I start getting wrinkles and losing my hair? I think finding when my childhood was lost is impossible by these terms.I can’t simply say, “Ah, yes!I remember when my childhood ended. It was an unusually warm day in November at approximately quarter past 5 in the evening.I asked my mother for tea afterward.”
If I were a girl again, I would practice perseverance more often, and never give up a thing because it was or inconvenient. If we want light, we must conquer darkness.Perseverance can sometimes equal genius in its results.“There are only two creatures,” as a proverb, “who can surmount the pyramids—the eagle and the snail.” If I were a girl again, I would school myself into a habit of attention;I would let nothing come between me and the subject in hand.I would remember that a good skater never tries to skate in two directions at once. The habit of attention becomes part of our life, if we early enough.I often hear grown up people say “ I could not fix my attention on the sermon or book, although I wished to do so” , and the reason is, the habit was not formed in youth. If I were to live my life over again, I would pay more attention to the cultivation of the memory.I would strengthen that faculty by every possible means, and on every possible occasion. It takes a little hard work at first to remember things accurately;but memory soon helps itself, and gives very little trouble. It only needs early cultivation to become a power.

Youthful Times.Time flies when we are having fun is an old expression. We know, as we reminisce of our past, time flies regardless. As we grow beyond our teenage. We remember the times of fun we had when we were young, when we were in primary school. We had little concern, little responsibilities. We all remember chasing our friends in catch, sneaking around in hide-and-seek and the fun in the playground. As we grow with time, our lives become filled with stress and worries. It is in these times we remember what we had, what we took for granted. As we do so, we look forward to what we can achieve and what we will see of ourselves years down the tracks.

1Chinese Women Volleyball Team
It all began in June, 1976, when the new China National Women's Volleyball Team was formed. It wasn't easy, as the world of volleyball was dominated either by the Western teams which were characterized by their power and height, or by the more versatile Eastern teams(e.g.Japan)which are know for their speed and skill. But the new team had two features that became important for their later success: Hope and a good coach.Yue Wai Man, 37 at that time, was named the head coach of the team. His unique vision made him realize to be one of the best, you have to learn what makes them the best. Therefore, a unique style combining speed, height, power and skill was developed.Being the best of Asia was only the first step. Our beloved Chinese ladies knew full well what has been waiting for them next.I really hope our Chinese Women Volleyball Team can win the gold again.
2We all know that the Chinese women volleyball team beat the Serbia to claim the gold medal of the women's volleyball tournament at Rio 2016 Olympic Game. This news has convinced us and reassured us that the Spirit of China Woman Volleyball does exist. It seemed to win the match was not possible for the Chinese team, but the girls were very strong and insistented to fight for the last minute.Even they lost the first game, they never gave up.As the saying goes,”Never give up.” What it implies is that in order to achieve our goals,we should never give up,even when we are in adversity. There is a silver lining and be positive and hopeful in times of darkness. Here I can think of no better illustration of the proverb than the stories of some famous people, such as the story of the famous inventor Edison, who argued that genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. As we all know,Edison invented the light bulb. All things are difficult before they become easy.So it follows that whatever we do,we will inevitably encounter difficulties and frustration, even setbacks. What’s more,in time of this inevitable darkness,it is fruitless to curse or complain;rather be positive and to get ready for the sunshine.Positive thinking will let us do everything better than negative thinking do.When light comes with opportunity,a positive attitude is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results. In conclusion,I think we should always keep the three words “Never Give Up” in mind, keep a positive thinking and silver lining will be the best assurance all though. We should try our best to pursue our dreams.

I first heard this story a few years ago from a girl I had met in New York's Greenwich Village. Probably the story is one of those mysterious bits of folklore that reappear every few years, to be told a new in one form or another. However, I still like to think that it really did happen, somewhere, sometime.
They were going to Fort Lauderdalethree boys and three girls and when they boarded the bus, they were carrying sandwiches and wine in paper bags, dreaming of golden beaches as the gray cold of New York vanished behind them.
As the bus passed through New Jersey, they began to notice Vingo. He sat in front of them, dressed in a plain, ill-fitting suit, never moving, his dusty face masking his age. He kept chewing the inside of his lip a lot, frozen into some personal cocoon of silence.
Deep into the night, outside Washington, the bus pulled into Howard Johnson's, and everybody got off except Vingo. He sat rooted in his seat, and the young people began to wonder about him, trying to imagine his life: perhaps he was a sea captain, a runaway from his wife, an old soldier going home. When they went back to the bus, one of the girls sat beside him and introduced herself.
“We're going to Florida,” she said brightly.“ I hear it's really beautiful.”
“我们都是去佛罗里达的,”那个女孩轻快地说。“我听说那里很美。”
“It is, ” he said quietly, as if remembering something he had tried to forget.
“是的,”他静静地回答道,他似乎记起了过去曾试图忘却的往事。
“Want some wine?” she said. He smiled and took a swig. He thanked her and retreated again into his silence. After a while, she went back to the others, and Vingo nodded in sleep.
“来点葡萄酒吧?”那个女孩说。他微笑着喝了一大口,说声谢谢后又回到他的沉默中。后来她回到那班人中,温格则低着头睡着了。
In the morning, they awoke outside another Howard Johnson's,and this time Vingo went in. The girl insisted that he join them. He seemed very shy, and ordered black coffee and smoked nervously as the young people chattered about sleeping on beaches. When they returned to the bus, the girl sat with Vingo again, and after a while, slowly and painfully, he told his story. He had been in jail in New York for the past four years, and now he was going home.
“Are you married?”
“你结婚了吗?”
“I don't know.”
“我不知道。”
“You don't know?” she said.
“你不知道?”那女孩很奇怪。
“Well, when I was in jail I wrote to my wife,” he said. “ I told her that I was going to be away a long time, and that if she couldn't stand it, if the kids kept asking questions, if it hurt too much, well, she could just forget me, I'd understand. Get a new guy, I saidshe‘s a wonderful woman, really somethingand forget about me. I told her she didn't have to write me for nothing. And she didn‘t. Not for three and a half years.”
“是这样,我在狱中时曾给我妻子写过一封信”他说,“告诉她我要离开很长一段时间,如果她忍受不了,如果孩子不断追问,如果这使她非常痛苦,那么她可以忘了我,我会理解的。我叫她重新嫁人,我知道她是个很不错的女人,真的不一般。我让她忘了我,我让她别给我写回信,因为这没有用,她也真没回信,我已有三年半没有她的音信了。”
“And you're going home now, not knowing?”
“那么你就这样盲目地回家去?”
“Yeah,” he said shyly. “ Well, last week, when I was sure the parole was coming through, I wrote her again. We used to live in Brunswick, just before Jacksonville, and there's a big oak tree just as you come into town. I told her that if she'd take me back, she should put a yellow handkerchief on the tree, and I'd get off and come home. If she didn't want me, forget itno handkerchief, and I'd go on through.”
“也不是,”他略带腼腆地说:“上周当我确知假释得到批准时,我又给她写过一封信。过去我们住在布伦斯威克,就在杰克逊维尔前面,在进城去的路上有一棵高大的橡树。我告诉她,如果她愿意我回来就在树上挂一方黄手帕,我就下车回家。如果她不要我就忘掉这件事,看不见手帕,我也就不下车了。”
“Wow,” the girl exclaimed. “Wow.”
“噢,是吗?”那个女孩惊讶极了。
She told the others, and soon all of them were in it, caught up in the approach of Brunswick, looking at the pictures Vingo showed them of his wife and three children. The woman was handsome in a plain way, the children still unformed in the much-handled snapshots.
Now they were 20 miles from Brunswick, and the young people took over window seats on the right side, waiting for the approach of the great oak tree. The bus acquired a dark, hushed mood, full of the silence of absence and lost years. Vingo stopped looking, tightening his face into the ex-con's mask, as if fortifying himself against still another disappointment.
Then Brunswick was ten miles, and then five. Then, suddenly, all of the young people were up out of their seats, screaming and shouting and crying, doing small dances of joy. All except Vingo.
Vingo sat there stunned, looking at the oak tree. It was covered with yellow handkerchiefs20 of them, 30 of them, maybe hundreds, a tree that stood like a banner of welcome billowing in the wind. As the young people shouted, the old con rose and made his way to the front of the bus to go home.
Catch the star that holds your destiny, the one that forever twinkles within your heart. Take advantage of precious opportunities while they still sparkle before you. Always believe that your ultimate goal is attainable as long as you commit yourself to it.
Though barriers may sometimes stand in the way of your dreams, remember that your destiny is hiding behind them. Accept the fact that not everyone is going to approve of the choices you've made, have faith in your judgment, catch the star that twinkles in your heart, and it will lead you to your destiny's path. Follow that pathway and uncover the sweet sunrises that await you.
Take pride in your accomplishments, as they are stepping stones to your dreams. Understand that you may make mistakes, but don't let them discourage you. Value your capabilities and talents for they are what make you truly unique. The greatest gifts in life are not purchased, but acquired through hard work and determination.
And what shall I do with this last precious day which remains in my keeping? First, I will seal up its container of life so that not one drop spills itself upon the sand. I will waste not a moment mourning yesterday's misfortunes, yesterday's defeats, yesterday's aches of the heart, for why should I throw good after bad?
Can sand flow upward in the hour glass? Will the sun rise where it sets and set where it rises? Can I relive the errors of yesterday and right them? Can I call back yesterday's wounds and make them whole? Can I become younger than yesterday? Can I take back the evil that was spoken, the blows that were struck, the pain that was caused? No. Yesterday is buried forever and I will think of it no more.
And what then shall I do? Forgetting yesterday neither will I think of tomorrow. Why should I throw note after maybe? Can tomorrow's sand flow through the glass before today's? Will the sun rise twice this morning? Can I perform tomorrow's deeds while standing in today's path? Can I place tomorrow's gold in today's purse? Can tomorrow's child be born today? Can tomorrow's death cast its shadow backward and darken today's joy? Should I concern myself over events which l may never witness? Should I torment myself with problems that may never come to pass? No! Tomorrow lies buried with yesterday, and I will think of it no more.
I will live this day as if it is my last.
This day is all I have and these hours are now my eternity. I greet this sunrise with cries of joy as a prisoner who is reprieved from death. I lift mine arms with thanks for this priceless gift of a new day. So too, I will beat upon my heart with gratitude as I consider all who greeted yesterday's sunrise who are no longer with the living today. I am indeed a fortunate man and today's hours are but a bonus, undeserved. Why have I been allowed to live this extra day when others, far better than I, have departed? Is it that they have accomplished their purpose while mine is yet to be achieved? Is this another opportunity for me to become the man I know I can be? Is there a purpose in nature? Is this my day to excel?
I will live this day as if it is my last.
I have but one life and life is naught but a measurement of time. When I waste one I destroy the other. If I waste today I destroy the last page of my life. Therefore, each hour of this day will I cherish for it can never return. It cannot be banked today to be withdrawn on the morrow, for who can trap the wind? Each minute of this day will I grasp with both hands and fondle with love for its value is beyond price. What dying man can purchase another breath though he willingly give all his gold? What price dare I place on the hours ahead? I will make them priceless!
I will live this day as if it is my last.
I will avoid with fury the killers of time. Procrastination I will destroy with action; doubt I will bury under faith; fear I will dismember with confidence. Where there are idle mouths I will listen not; where there are idle hands I will linger not; where there are idle bodies I will visit not. Henceforth I know that to court idleness is to steal food, clothing, and warmth from those I love. I am not a thief. I am a man of love and today is my last chance to prove my love and my greatness.
I will live this day as if it is my last.
The duties of today I shall fu1fill today. Today I shall fondle my children while they are young; tomorrow they will be gone, and so will I. Today I shall embrace my woman with sweet kisses; tomorrow she will be gone, and so will I. Today I shall lift up a friend in need; tomorrow he will no longer cry for help, nor will I hear his cries. Today I shall give myself in sacrifice and work; tomorrow I will have nothing to give, and there will be none to receive.
I will live this day as if it is my last.
And if it is my last, it will be my greatest monument. This day I will make the best day of my life. This day I will drink every minute to its full. I will savor its taste and give thanks. I will make the every hour count and each minute I will trade only for something of value. I will labor harder than ever before and push my muscles until they cry for relief, and then I will continue. I will make more calls than ever before. I will sell more goods than ever before. I will earn more gold than ever before. Each minute of today will be more fruitful than hours of yesterday. My last must be my best.
I will live this day as if it is my last. And if it is not, I shall fall to my knees and give thanks.

Looking into the sunset I can't help but notice
that despite her beauty,
a sense of struggle and hopeless surround the sky .
Deep inside you realize that this day is gone,
and everything that It had brought is lost forever.
Every thought,every action,every dream,every hope,
every sight,every sound is gone.
There is no chance of every being returned the same,
exactly the same.
For every moment has a limit to what it can capture,
Every memory has a limit to what it had retrieve.
And the colours in the sky try to entertain us.
one last act with painted smiles,
for they too know that nothing can be done to save the day.
So futile their attempt to comfort our fear of the night.
our horror as we try to find our way,
like children who wanderinto a forest and never return.
I am ingratiatedby the sunset because of
her sensitivity as she tries to push the darkness
back for just a moment more.
But like so many times before....to no avail!
Nearly everybody has a creek in his or her past, a secret waterway where one spent the spring of one’s youth.
An old man’s voice weakens as he talks of a boyhood creek in Louisian where he swam and fished. A woman feels suddenly at home again as she remembers catching fish in the creek behind her parents’ house.
My creek wound between Grandfather’s garden and a neighbor’s hillside pasture. Its banks were shaded by cottonwood3 and redwood trees. On hot summer days the clear and cold water flowed over the little beaches where I fished.
Nothing historic ever happened in these creeks, but they are deep in memory. These creeks are bigger than they seem. They are a part of our hearts and minds more than powerful rivers.
While rivers are heavy, creeks are clear, innocent, lively and full of dreams and promise.duanwenw.com A child can paddle across them without a parent’s warnings. You can go to it alone, catch fish in it and swing from the ropes along its banks. Creeks belong to childhood, drawing you into a wider world, teaching you the curve of the earth.
Poet Robert Frost once wrote: It flows between us, over us and with us. And it is time, strength, tone, light, life and love.
We all know that the Chinese women volleyball team beat the Serbia to claim the gold medal of the women's volleyball tournament at Rio 2016 Olympic Game. This news has convinced us and reassured us that the Spirit of China Woman Volleyball does exist.
It seemed to win the match was not possible for the Chinese team, but the girls were very strong and insistented to fight for the last minute. Even they lost the first game, they never gave up.
As the saying goes,”Never give up.” What it implies is that in order to achieve our goals,we should never give up,even when we are in adversity.
It is not difficult to imagine a world short of ambition. It would probably be a kinder world: with out demands, without abrasions, without disappointments. People would have time for reflection. Such work as they did would not be for themselves but for the collectivity. Competition would never enter in. conflict would be eliminated, tension become a thing of the past. The stress of creation would be at an end. Art would no longer be troubling, but purely celebratory in its functions. Longevity would be increased, for fewer people would die of heart attack or stroke caused by tumultuous endeavor. Anxiety would be extinct. Time would stretch on and on, with ambition long departed from the human heart.
Ah, how unrelieved boring life would be!
There is a strong view that holds that success is a myth, and ambition therefore a sham. Does this mean that success does not really exist? That achievement is at bottom empty? That the efforts of men and women are of no significance alongside the force of movements and events now not all success, obviously, is worth esteeming, nor all ambition worth cultivating. Which are and which are not is something one soon enough learns on one’s own. But even the most cynical secretly admit that success exists; that achievement counts for a great deal; and that the true myth is that the actions of men and women are useless. To believe otherwise is to take on a point of view that is likely to be deranging. It is, in its implications, to remove all motives for competence, interest in attainment, and regard for posterity.
We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: courageously or in cowardice, honorably or dishonorably, with purpose or in drift. We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose, so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about.
A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps; for there is a companionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the best company, whether it be of books or of men.
A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness; amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting and consoling us in age.
Men often discover their affinity to each other by the mutual love they have for a book just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is an old proverb, ‘Love me, love my dog.” But there is more wisdom in this:” Love me, love my book.” The book is a truer and higher bond of union. Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them.
A good book is often the best urn of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for the world of a man’s life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, become our constant companions and comforters.
Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues decay, but books survive. Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author’s minds, ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effect of time have been to sift out the bad products; for nothing in literature can long survive e but what is really good.
Books introduce us into the best society; they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did; we see the as if they were really alive; we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were in a measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe.
The great and good do not die, even in this world. Embalmed in books, their spirits walk abroad. The book is a living voice. It is an intellect to which on still listens.

To make a public declaration of their love and commitment, a man and woman jumped over a broom into matrimony, to the beat of drums. The broom has long held significant meaning for the various Africans, symbolizing, the start of home - making for the newlywed couple. In Southern Africa, the day after the wedding, the bride assisted the other women in the family in sweeping the courtyard, indicating her dutiful willing ness to help her in-laws with housework till the newlyweds could move to their new home. Some African-American couples today are choosing to include this symbolic rite in their wedding ceremony.

An ancient Hebrew text says,“ Love is as strong as death.” It seems that not everyone experiences this kind of strong love. The increase in poverty, crime and war tells us that the world is in desperate need of true love. But what is true love?Love is something we all need but how do we know when we've experienced it? True love is best seen as devotion and action, not an emotion. Love is not exclusively based on how we feel. Certainly our emotions are involved, but they cannot be our only criteria for love.

I choose for my subject faith wrought into life, apart from creed or dogma.By faith I mean a vision of good one cherishes and the enthusiasm that pushes one to seek its fulfillment regardless of obstacles.Faith is a dynamic power that breaks the chain of routine and gives a new, fine turn to old commonplaces.Faith reinvigorates the will, enriches the affections and awakens a sense of creativeness.
Active faith knows no fear, and it is a safeguard to me against cynicism and despair. After all, faith is not one thing or two or three things;it is an indivisible totality of beliefs that inspire me.Belief in God as infinite good will and all-seeing Wisdom whose everlasting arms sustain me walking on the sea of life.Trust in my fellow men, wonder at their fundamental goodness and confidence that after this night of sorrow and oppression they will rise up strong and beautiful in the glory of morning.Reverence for the beauty an preciousness of the earth, and a sense of responsibility to do what I can to make it a habitation of health and plenty for all men.Faith in immortality because it renders less bitter the separation from those I have loved and lost, and because it will free me from unnatural limitations and unfold still more faculties I have in joyous activity.Even if my vital spark should be blown out, I believe that I should behave with courageous dignity in the presence of fate and strive to be a worthy companion of the beautiful, the good, and the True. But fate has its master in the faith of those who surmount it, and limitation has its limits for those who, thought disillusioned, live greatly.True faith is not a fruit of security, it is the ability to blend mortal fragility with the inner strength of the spirit. It does not shift with the changing shades of one's thought.
It was a terrible blow to my faith when I learned that millions of my fellow creatures must labor all their days for food and shelter, bear the most crushing burdens and die without having known the joy of living. My security vanished forever, and I have never regained the radiant belief of my young years that earth is a happy home and hearth for the majority of mankind. But faith is a state of mind. The believer is not soon disheartened. If he is turned out of his shelter, he builds up a house that the winds of the earth cannot destroy.
When I think of the suffering and famine, and the continued slaughter of men, my spirit bleeds, but the thought comes to me that, like the little deaf, dumb and blind child I once was, mankind is growing out of the darkness of ignorance and hate into the light of a brighter day.
International Business and Cross-cultural Communication The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication.Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts.Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. It often appears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal purveyor of information and cash.In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator.Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals.Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator.
