了解口试评分原则与方法
在口试过程中口试教师依照口试评分标准进行评分,而不对两名考生的口试情况作任何比较。口试教师依照口试各节的全部考查内容对考生进行口语评价,而且依照其中的某一部分独立评分。
口试时由两名口试教师对考生的口语能力进行评价。不参与交谈的教师根据评分标准中列出的四项内容分项给分。参与交谈的教师只给出一个综合分。
口试教师从以下四方面评价考生口语交际能力:
★语音语调
根据考生为完成口试任务所产出言语的可理解程度评分。其中包括单音的清晰度,连读、失去爆破、重音、节奏、语调是否运用的正确。只要不对理解造成影响,允许考生在英语表
达中带有母语口音。
★语法与词汇
根据考生使用语法和词汇的恰当性和准确性评分。要求考生能够运用准确的语法,其中包括时态、语态、主谓一致、单复数、句法结构等是否正确。词汇方面要求单词的恰当性和多样性。允许存在一些不影响理解的错误。
★话语运用
根据考生话语的条理性和连贯性评分。要求考生具有较强的语言运用能力,能够连贯地传递信息、阐述观点等,其讲话的方式是否自然、流畅。允许有个别的不连贯之处。★互动交际
根据考生相互交流和连续表达,完成交际任务的情况进行评分。要求考生能恰当地进行应答和导入话题,所谈内容是否切题,逻辑性强。在这一方面包括使用功能性语言和方法维持交流或进行交流补救,并能主动地进行讨论和展开话题。允许在交际中因组织思路和语言而出现个别停顿。/
1.有些比较随和,善解人意的口试教师会尽量帮助考生放松情绪,克服紧张心理。在请考生坐定后,他们问考生的第一个问题很可能不是我们所期待的:“what’s your name?”或 “where are you from?”之类的正式问题,而是一个似乎与考试无关的非正式的轻松话题。比如他/她会像接待来访客人一样轻松地来一句:“it’s a nice day today,isn’t it?”“your t-shirt looks beautiful!”“how did you come here today?”等等,跟你闲谈上一两句,待你放松之后,再进入正式的面试话题。而我们有些考生被这突如其来的生活话题搞得不知所措,有的竟然哑口无言,目瞪口呆,连一个善意的微笑都没有回应,心里怀疑自己是不是走错了房间。要记住:口语考试的目的是考查考生用英语与人交流的能力或者说口试教师看重的是你的“生存英文”(survival english)而不是你的“学术英文”(academic english)。所以这时考生的正确做法应该是顺其自然地与口试教师交谈,充分展现你与人顺畅自如的交流能力,既放松自己,又给口试教师留下一个良好的初步印象。
例如:
interlocutor: “how did you come here today?
candidate: “i came here by bus/taxi/bicycle.”
i: “it’s a nice day today,isn’t it?”
c: “yes,it is.it’s the best season of the year.”
i: “your t-shirt looks beautiful!”

当然,不要期待每个口试教师都会千篇一律地用这种方式开始面试,正像不要期待每个口试教师都用非常正式的问题开始提问一样,要准备迎接各种不同的面孔和问题,口试教师毕竟是人,不是机器。
2.口试教师的第二个目的,同时也是一个顺理成章的结果,是得到有关考生英语水平的初步印象。这一印象对于考生的最后得分至关重要。因为根据心理学测试的结果,一个有经验的面试官可以在口试开始后1-2分钟之内得出对考生评判的结论,而无需等到口试结束。在余下的时间里,口试教师多半都在按照自己初步结论的惯性思维,从考生的回答中有意无意地寻找符合自己所做结论的证据来进一步证实自己的结论是正确的。其实这种思维方式不仅体现在各种口试中,也普遍存在于社会生活的方方面面,我们对于一个人或任何事物在最初接触时形成的第一印象往往是很难改变的,除非发生什么戏剧性的情况,这种印象经常是占据主导地位的。
这就意味着我们应该特别注意对第一阶段最初几个问题的回答,尽管它们都是非常简单的问题,考生绝不能掉以轻心,忽视对这些简单问题的回答。有些考生在回答这些简单问题时甚至会犯一些低级错误,给口试教师留下不好的第一印象,也影响了自己后面的正常发挥。例如:
i: “what do you do?”
c: “i’m talking with you.”
上面两句中口试教师明明在问:“你是做什么的?”考生却回答:“我正在跟你谈话。”可以想像,这样的回答会对考生产生多么不利的第一印象。
口语考试不仅应该用口,还要用心回答每个问题。在回答任何问题时,不要慌慌张张地急于切入主题,大脑中迅速思考一下这个问题可能涉及到的后续问题,尽量把话题引到自己比较熟悉而口试教师又可能感兴趣的话题上,而不要匆忙中为自己设下一个陷阱。比如当口试教师问你曾经做过哪些职业或从事过哪些业余活动时,如果你的回答是“i like singing”就可能被问到更多有关singing的问题,如“who is your favourite singer?”“what is your favourite song?”“why do you like him/her/it?”等等。这就要求考生在考前要做好相应的准备,考试中才能应对自如,轻松过关。
三、听说一体促进提高口语水平
我们学习口语目的是为了与别人进行交流,所以英语口语中的几个要素的重要次序应为:流利—准确—恰当。也就是说,我们应更注重与人交流的能力而不是仅仅把重点放在语法的正确性上。
首先,我讲讲我们的学生在英语口语学习中主要存在的障碍:
①过于追求学习的捷径,争于求成,没有真正踏踏实实地去接触大量的英语材料。②套用中文思维方式去学英语,而不是采用英语思维方式。中国学生学习英语的常用方法是大量地记忆单词,或大量做题,却不进入英语本身的语言符号系统中去,而这正是“哑巴英语”产生的根源。
③把英语当成严密的科学来学,说话之前首先看是否符合语法,始终用语法来思维。在英语学习中,逻辑思维的运用是必要的,但更重要的是还要运用日常表达的习惯性思维。那么针对这些主要障碍,我提出以下几个相对有效的学习方法:
1.通过大量的听力练习,自觉培养英语思维习惯
语言输入的一个重要途径之一就是听。大家知道,口语学习的关键是要模仿地道的英语,如果你找不到老外或是练习口语的对象,你可以从听力材料中借力。听力材料需包括校园、社会、科普等话题,在进行听力练习的时候,从中总结口语表达的语言套路,并加以演练,这样你的口语听起来就会显得洋味十足。开始练习时速度可以慢一些,要逐步使自己跟上磁带的朗读速度。
具体步骤:先放录音磁带,听段落大意,理解整个故事的情节;再放录音,尽量听懂每一句话,实在听不懂再去看书,搞明白每一个单词的意思。然后,放一句,暂停,模仿录音读一句;然后,放下一句,暂停,再学一句,中间可以回放。当你对文章的发音、语调完全掌握之后,就要在放录音的同时同步跟读。争取让自己的声音与录音磁带完全重合。如果中间有结巴的地方也不要紧,继续读下去,然后再回来重读。最后,关掉录音机,朗诵课文。注意使用学到的语音语调。
2.复述练习:通过大量阅读,提高英语思维能力
了解英汉两种语言的思维差异需要在平时的阅读中不断地感受、体会、积累。由于受母语的影响,有些人讲英语往往是先在头脑中出现汉语,然后才是英语,因此就出现了不顾思维差异的“中式英语”现象。解决这一问题的方法就是加大英语阅读量,多读一些简易读物。要想提高口语表达水平,所读的语言材料能够朗朗上口。你可以试着把自己所读过的章节或
刚刚读过的小故事用英语复述出来。相信用这样的方法练习,一定会提高口语表达的流利程度,并逐步摆脱母语的影响,逐渐形成用英语思维的习惯。正是鉴于这一点,本书第三、四章的长难句及第五、六章的语义段落均选编自口语功能较强的英语国家原版期刊,考生必须对照磁带上英、美专家的朗读,加强自己的跟读练习。
3.坚持背诵和朗读英语,培养英语语感和英语思维能力
在学汉语时,我们知道“熟读唐诗三百首,不会作诗也会吟”,英语学习也是这样,可以这么说,如能熟背英语九百句,口语交流的基本障碍就会被扫除。在实际生活中,在各种不同的情景或场合、对不同的对象表达某一意念时常使用的习惯用语并不太多。这些用语大多具有固定的句型,往往不能用汉译英的方式直译出来。一个对口语句型掌握熟练的人,只要掌握2500~3000个常用词和短语,就能较自由地表达自己的思想。而朗读英语实际是在“磨牙”、练口腔肌肉,是纯粹的“体力活”。成年人英语讲不好很大程度上是因为讲英文时舌头不灵活,没有讲英文的习惯。找一些英文段落、绕口令或者典型句型,反复大声读,直到舌、齿灵活。我相信只要持之以恒,通过朗读发声训练完全可以提高“口齿”伶俐程度。同时,朗读会不断刺激大脑,强化英语语感和英语思维能力。
4.通过英汉口译练习,锻炼英语思维
首先要选择地道的汉英(或英汉)对照读物,选好材料后,先读汉语部分,然后逐句口译成英文,完成一小段后,再对照书上的英文部分并与自己的口译进行比较,就可以发现口译中的错误、不足以及一点一滴的进步。这种比较过程,就像一位高级教师在指导你,一些我们在学习英语课文时熟视无睹的地道的英语用法通过比较会被重新发现和认识。进行这种“back translation”练习,开始时要选择较简单的读物,而且应大量地做,只做一两篇效果是不明显的。这种练习在最初的时候可能进展缓慢,费时较多,但这是一个启动、加速的过程,只要坚持下去,练上一段时间后你的翻译速度就会大大加快。经过大量的练习,你会有这样的感觉:你的翻译水平大大加强了,你的口语表达能力大大提高了!你的口译(语)能力和英语思维能力同步增长!<本书的第三、四章所运用的英文语句,我们都基本上采用直译的方式译成汉语与其原文按对照方式排列,这样就是为了方便考生进行“back translation”的练习>
5.寻找学伴一起练习口语
英语角是个不错的地方,在那我们不但可以练习口语,还可以交流英语学习经验,开拓视野,提高英语学习兴趣。如果找不到学伴或参加英语角的机会很少,那么也没有关系,有很多种方法可以自己练习口语。比如通过自己对自己来创造英语环境。可以对自己描述所看到的景物,英语口述自己正在做的事情。
6.听译法—角色互换:三人一组,模拟翻译实战
一人说汉语,一人说英语,扮演老外,一人作翻译。练习一段时间后互换角色。这是一种非常好的翻译训练方法,也是很好的相互学习,取长补短的方法,而且可大大提高反应速度和能力。在这样的练习中要特别注意短语(词组)和小词的运用,中国式的英语尤其是口语,一个很大的缺点就是学生喜欢用大词,而真正地道的英语口语却是充满着短小、活泼、生动的短语,富有生气。而这些短语大部分有小词构成。
另外,如果可能我们也可以大声且快速朗读英文绕口令(就像相声演员练嘴),还可以同时口中含块糖以加大强化训练的力度。这样来强化我们的口腔肌肉迅速适应英文发音,使我们的口语相当流利、清晰,而且还有自信。
例如:
