crossing the sea good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.the title of my speech today is crossing the sea.an english poet by the name of rudyard kipling once wrote in his poem we and they: all the people like us are we and everyone else is they we live over the sea while they live over the way we eat pork and beef with cowhorn-handled knives they who gobble their rice off a leaf are horrified out of their lives.when these lines first caught my eyes, i was shocked-how could two peoples remain so isolated and ignorant of each other in the past? todays society, of course, is an entirely different picture.those people who used to eat with cowhorn-handled knives might be very skillful in using chopsticks, and those people who used to gobble their rice might be as well have taken to fish and chips.indeed, just take china as an example: our modern life has been influenced by western style of living in so many ways that its no longer surprising to see teenagers going crazy about rock-and-roll, whole families dining out at mcdonalds and even rather elderly people dressed in apple jeans.however, these are only some expressions of the cultural changes taking place in our society today.what is really going on is a subtle but significant restructuring of the nations mentality.just look around.it is therefore evident that we as descendants of an ancient eastern civilization are already living under strong inf1uence of the western culture.but it is not only in china that we find the incorporation of the two cultures.take the chinese acupuncture as another example: this traditional treatment of diseases is finally finding its way to the west and hence the underlying notion that illness is resulted from the imbalance between yin and yang within the body--an idea which would strike any westerner as incredible in the past!ladies and gentlemen, we live in a great epoch when the global integration of economy and the information revolution have brought cultures of the world closer than ever before.we live in a particular era when countries, east and west, find themselves in need of readjusting their traditional values.we live, at the same time, at a critical juncture of our evolution because such problems as ethnic conflicts and regional unrest are increasingly posing a threat to the peace and happiness of the whole human race.to cope with such an era and to embrace an even brighter therefore, it is our sacred responsibility to promote the cultural exchanges and hence the mutual understanding between china and the rest of the world.it is my happiest dream that the new generation of chinese will not only grow up drinking coca-cola and watching hollywood, but also be blessed with the far-reaching benefits of multiple cultures;benefits that our forefathers had never, ever dreamed of.to end my speech, i would like to quote rudyard kipling again: all the people like us are we and everyone else is they but once you cross over the sea you will end by looking on we as only a sort of they thank you.
演讲稿:what would you do if you had only one day left to live? “what would you do if you had only one day left to live?” i asked this question to my young students when teaching english this winter.what were their answers? ten years ago, at their age, i had a different answer: i would spend the last day of my life gazing at the face of my dear grandmother until i inscribed every detail of it onto my mind.when grandmother was getting old and weak, my family bought her a telephone so i could save time and the trouble of traveling to her home by making phone calls instead.later we bought her a television so she could watch modern dramas by herself.then grandma must have been, we assumed, very contented and happy.even though i have a telephone, can she hear me now? even though i might be on television, can she see me now? with all these “tele”s, i was powerless.don’t people just love the word of “tele”, which means far away.indeed this is how modern technology has changed our world.but please don’t forget this other word with “tele”: telepathy: which refers to human beings’ inborn ability to connect to our loved ones.our minds are supposed to read each other’s minds;our hearts are supposed to feel each other’s hearts — and fulfill these without any forms of tool!but the moment i desperately struggled to remember grandmother’s face, the telepathy between her and me had shut down forever.with the help of modern technology, i killed our telepathy.this shall never happen again!the “tele”s are great inventions.but “telepathy” gives them the warmth of a human face.let’s harness the power of television to excite our kids to develop their telepathy with nature? so that they can read the secret language of flowers.let’s make the telephone lines provoke us to preserve our telepathy with each other, so we can connect in a warm and feeling way.let technology keep our “telepathy” alive!we need to wake up and make this happen.thank you very much!

Honorable judges and dear fellow students,Just as most people here, when I first saw the topic reform and opening-up policies,a voice came out, saying what a grand scale! Then those big events, such as China's accession to WTO,the launch of Shenzhou and the submersion of Jiaolong flashed through my mind. However,at this moment I stand on the stage as a member of Chinese youth,I'm not gonna draw a magnificent blueprint for you. What I exactly want is to find out the relation between Chinese youth and this era of reform and opening-up.It is known to all that in the past 40 years,China has captured the opportunity provided by globalization and grown rapidly from nobody to the second-largest economy in the world. In this context,it could be said that we young people have had better resources than ever before. To be more specific, let's pick up some daily life's fragments: for example, one Sunday morning, you don't feel like going outside,so you pull out your smartphone and quickly order a takeout on APP to comfort your empty stomach. In another case ,there's been a discount on Taobao. After struggling with your equipment and the net speed, you finally got your favorite goods at the best prize, because the most complete supply chain and logistic chain worldwide will solve the remaining work for you,so all you have to do is waiting. Not to mention the increasing number of people going abroad, with a Chinese passport, they are entitled to travel around the world and come back home safely. But now I wonder how many of you have realized that this convenience, this sense of security does't come out of air, surely we could regard it as the product of reform and opening-up policies, nevertheless,do you really understand what are behind those achievements? There is a saying, if you live at ease , that is because there are a great many people who are working for you in silence. They might be the politicians and entrepreneurs who climb into the raging flow to explore and promote the system construction of market economy, they might be the intellectuals who devote their lives to prompting the engine of development, and they might be every single person we have access to.In other words,we youth do not take it for granted, the more resources we possess means the more responsibility we will shoulder. When the 95s were claimed to be the new youth in China and the first millennial stepped into campus, baton of the era has also been approaching.Although China is moving firmly towards its goal of rejuvenation ,deficiencies and problems still exist. So in this sense,we youth ought to grow stronger to sustain the potentiality of development. With the baton in hands,do not afraid to embrace the mercurial society ,do not afraid to change the future. So that as the new youth we could feel more emboldened to say that facing the reform and opening-up policies we are not only the gainers but also the successors!Thank you!

Reform and Opening-up : Dare to embrace the world
Good afternoon everyone, my name is Jack. It’s my great privilege to stand here and share my own perspective about 40 years’ reform and opening-up.Through the long history of China, reform is easy to witness. Some reforms just shifted the rulers’ name yet had little influence on the society.Others, however, can be revolutionary and our reform and opening-up policy is one of them.Born in 21st century, it is hard to have the exact feeling about the life before 1978.Luckily, I can grasp some information from my parents and my grandparents. On a personal note, the most impressive change that has occurred during the 40 years is people’s concept of living, or to be specific, the concept of allocating their salary. For instance, Elder people like my grandparents always cut off their monthly budget and then save the surplus money into the bank account. While young adults are more likely to use the remaining salary to do some investment or with the loan if necessary.I did ask my grandparents why not follow suit, they told me it had risks that they didn’t want to take.Apparently, we stand in this period and all know that such kind of trade and investment is helpful to the economy ascent. Thanks to Mr.Deng’s policy, we can now dare to trade both domestically and internationally.Beside economy, swift development in other aspects is also prodigious. As you can see, Skyscrapers stand in the city and huts are no more.Cars take the main avenue and bikes step aside.Various travel modes are available for common civilians.Imagine, what kind of condition we may live in if the reform and opening-up policy is absent? Do you want to live in the condition that was similar to forty years ago.Ok, back to the point, when mentioning transportation, you all know what I am going to talk about is our high speed-rail whose both speed and technology top all over the world.Dating back to 40 years ago, it is nearly impossible for people to imagine such changes can literally take place.Due to the reform and opening-up, I can now jump out of the well and embrace the world.Flash as 40 years may be, we indeed witness and experience the happiness that the reform and opening-up has brought us.Therefore, as a freshman, it is my duty and also our duty to be explicit about our directions and master adequate professional knowledge which will be the basis of our contributions to the community and creating harmonious environment for the next generation.Do not be afraid that your contribution may not be considered as innovative as Deng Xiao Pin did, because it is the little parts that you have done that build up the world we live in today. In the end, I have to say that reform and opening-up is a great fortune for every Chinese.Owing to the window it opens for us, I can now embrace the world. That’s all.Thank you.

same opportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopeful world tomorrow.it is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to the challenges of the new century and to devote our sweat and blood, our wisdom and passion, to the historic cause of making this nation a greater and happier land for every one of us.we are not going to evade that responsibility.we are going to let people down.and people, far and near, will hear of us.frost will be brought to their backbones and tears to their eyes when our stories are told and retold, so let us go forth, my fellow members of this luckily chosen generation, and meet the new century in victory and glory.(转载于:21世纪杯全国大学生英语演讲比赛)21世纪杯全国大学生英语演讲稿英语演讲稿,英语美文欣赏,英语演讲,实用英语,学生英语演讲稿 im grateful that ive been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, i believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past 15 years.in my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.the teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me.but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, i always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.one day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, could you please explain this to me? i want very much to do better this time.i started explaining, and finished in a hurry.pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, i ran off quickly.nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam.and two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer.no one ever knew about the little task i failed to fulfill, but i couldnt forgive myself.i simply couldnt forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, why didnt you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? why didnt you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that i would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret? i was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for i began to understand the word responsibility and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.later in my life, i continued to experience many failures.but never again did i feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that i have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best i can.words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts.such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it.yet in the meantime, many problems still exist.we learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting.we hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who cant even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxury cars.we buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many people believe, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at the expense of morality and responsibility.such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems.history has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.standing here now, i think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinary student.probably ill be an ordinary man for the rest of my life.but this doesnt discourage me any, for i know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, its going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that i will be living.i cant ever forget that little girl in my class who couldnt had the same opportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopeful world tomorrow.it is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to the challenges of the new century and to devote our sweat and blood, our wisdom and passion, to the historic cause of making this nation a greater and happier land for every one of us.we are not going to evade that responsibility.we are going to let people down.and people, far and near, will hear of us.frost will be brought to their backbones and tears to their eyes when our stories are told and retold, so let us go forth, my fellow members of this luckily chosen generation, and meet the new century in victory and glory.

crossing the sea good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.the title of my speech today is crossing the sea.an english poet by the name of rudyard kipling once wrote in his poem we and they: all the people like us are we and everyone else is they we live over the sea while they live over the way we eat pork and beef with cowhorn-handled knives they who gobble their rice off a leaf are horrified out of their lives.when these lines first caught my eyes, i was shocked-how could two peoples remain so isolated and ignorant of each other in the past? todays society, of course, is an entirely different picture.those people who used to eat with cowhorn-handled knives might be very skillful in using chopsticks, and those people who used to gobble their rice might be as well have taken to fish and chips.indeed, just take china as an example: our modern life has been influenced by western style of living in so many ways that its no longer surprising to see teenagers going crazy about rock-and-roll, whole families dining out at mcdonalds and even rather elderly people dressed in apple jeans.however, these are only some expressions of the cultural changes taking place in our society today.what is really going on is a subtle but significant restructuring of the nations mentality.just look around.it is therefore evident that we as descendants of an ancient eastern civilization are already living under strong inf1uence of the western culture.but it is not only in china that we find the incorporation of the two cultures.take the chinese acupuncture as another example: this traditional treatment of diseases is finally finding its way to the west and hence the underlying notion that illness is resulted from the imbalance between yin and yang within the body--an idea which would strike any westerner as incredible in the past!ladies and gentlemen, we live in a great epoch when the global integration of economy and the information revolution have brought cultures of the world closer than ever before.we live in a particular era when countries, east and west, find themselves in need of readjusting their traditional values.we live, at the same time, at a critical juncture of our evolution because such problems as ethnic conflicts and regional unrest are increasingly posing a threat to the peace and happiness of the whole human race.to cope with such an era and to embrace an even brighter therefore, it is our sacred responsibility to promote the cultural exchanges and hence the mutual understanding between china and the rest of the world.it is my happiest dream that the new generation of chinese will not only grow up drinking coca-cola and watching hollywood, but also be blessed with the far-reaching benefits of multiple cultures;benefits that our forefathers had never, ever dreamed of.to end my speech, i would like to quote rudyard kipling again: all the people like us are we and everyone else is they but once you cross over the sea you will end by looking on we as only a sort of they thank you.

Prepared Speech
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. At present, my fellow students and I have before us great personal and educational opportunities. At the same time, we are running into a variety of challenges.Today's college education provides us with opportunities for bringing out the creativity and talent that we have within us.This is nurtured both by our learned professors, and by the growing dimension of knowledge sources, such as the World Wide Web and multimedia sources. Our educational experience is being transformed both within and beyond the traditional classroom. However, challenges still exist. At the end of every semester, students in my university are required to fill out a questionnaire as a review of the previous semester. The questions usually cover a broad range of college life, from curriculum adjustment to canteen service. And almost every time, the questionnaire includes one essential question, that is: As a college student, what are your major challenges? And almost every answer includes two aspects: studying and professional. These two challenges will remain our preoccupations as long as we live in such a competitive world.A series of challenges in our studies start from almost the beginning of our freshman year.We may wonder whether we've chosen the right major. We may wonder if the extracurricular activities add credits to our studies. We may work our heads off to get a glorious A, because B is already mediocre and C is almost unacceptable.Later on we may be competing with our hardworking, intelligent peers, including our best friends to get into an ideal graduate school. All of these sound so familiar and they have somehow made our college education so goal-obsessed that we sometimes fail to fully enjoy our educational experience.Apart from challenges in learning, there are also professional challenges. The competitive world today has also brought about the1
“Knowledge Economy,” which requires the effective use of knowledge for economic and social development, and also requires skilled and multi-oriented students with a marketable vocational sense. Therefore, sophisticated calculations upon the value of a university degree are being made.Graduate employability statistics are being scrutinized.Programs like resume writing and interview skills are seen as a must.Again as I've said above, when professional concern dominates our college education, we may lose the essence of our educational experience.Indeed, facing these two challenges, how can students manage to be what the employers seek and at the same time to enjoy a valuable, insightful and rewarding educational experience?
For me, the solution to the problem lies in what can be called an “Educational Synthesis”.I remember attending a lecture by Professor Tu Weiming, director of Harvard Yenching Institute. In his lecture, Professor Tu argued that the ideal state of college education is to arrive at a synthesis, a combination of specific knowledge, humanistic insight and sense of social responsibility.Admittedly, there is much to do to bridge the gap between our educational experience in college and the social employment in society.“Educational synthesis” can help us narrow the gap.Fortunately, today's college education provides us with such a diverse world. From this diverse world we may choose what we want to form our own educational synthesis.Ladies and gentlemen, as Charles Dickens once commented upon the time of the French Revolution, “It was the best of times;it was the worst of times.” And I'm afraid so it is with our time.I believe, once we achieve our own educational synthesis, we will be able to transform our challenges into opportunities. We will be able to see the best time of our life. And more importantly, we will be able to see the best time of our nation.Thank you.
