互联网(Internet)发展现状:

1995年以来，互联网用户数量呈指数增长趋势，平均每半年翻一番。截止到2002年5月，全球已经有5亿8千多万用户。其中，北美1.82亿，亚太1.68亿。截止到2001年7月，全球连接的计算机数量约1.26亿台。互联网还在以超过摩尔定律的速度发展。有人预计，全球互联网的用户数量2005年将达到13亿，2010年将达到22亿。

1995年10月24日，“联合网络委员会”通过了一项有关决议：将“互联网”定义为全球性的信息系统——

1.通过全球性的唯一的地址逻辑地链接在一起。这个地址是建立在互联网协议(IP)或今后其他协议基础之上的。

2.可以通过传输控制协议和互联协议(TCP/IP)，或者今后其他接替的协议或与互联协议(IP)兼容的协议来进行通信。

3.可以让公共用户或者私人用户使用高水平的服务。这种服务是建立在上述通信及相关的基础设施之上的。

实际上由于互联网是划时代的，它不是为某一种需求设计的，而是一种可以接受任何新的需求的总的基础结构。你也可以从社会、政治、文化、经济、军事等各个层面去解释理解其意义和价值。

或者说Internet是一项正在向纵深发展的技术，是人类进入网络文明阶段或信息社会的标志。对Internet将来的发展给以准确的描述是十分困难的。但目前的情形使互联网早已突破了技术的范畴，正在成为人类向信息文明迈进的纽带和载体。

总之Internet是我们今后生存和发展的基础设施，它直接影响着我们的生活方式。互联网的业务经营模式和种类很多，但相对来说形成比较完整的业务价值链主要有以下几个：传统业务的接入服务，它由电信运营商提供业务；网络游戏，由网络游戏服务提供商、游戏运营商、电信运营商一连串的服务商形成价值链；短信业务，通过ICP、服务提供商和网络运营商包括移动服务提供商、即时通信、网络广告、网络搜索等业务形成了比较完整的价值链。同时我们看到还有其它一些业务尽管开展得如火如荼、热火朝天，但是因为价值链不完整，或者因为在价值链形成过程当中市场的价值观念有很大的二异性，导致这些业务没有形成对网络产业自身的强有力的支撑，还没有为网络的从业者带来很大的利益。
