李阳的命运之门，在大二訇然洞开。

偶然的发现
非常巧合的是因为李阳很难集中精力，所以就索性跑到校园的树林里，山头上，湖水边，烈士亭大喊英文！他惊讶地发现，在大声喊叫中，他的注意力变得特别集中。喊叫的时候，有一种爆发力，有一种神奇的征服力量。几个星期后，他去英语角，别人很奇怪地问他：“咦，李阳，你的英语怎么一下说得好了许多？”一语点醒李阳，他想，这个“喊”的方法是不是很有效？
立下军令状
于是他决心继续尝试，虽然充满了“肯定会失败”的恐惧。为了避免这次的决心再落得同样“半途而废”的下场（come to a disgraceful end），他约了班里最刻苦的同学（李阳所见过的唯一一个大学四年坚持周末上自习的人，现在美国作博士后研究工作），立下军令状，每天中午吃完午饭后，奔赴学校最美、最偏的地方烈士亭，大喊英语。而且谁如果先退下阵来，就会被对方任意处置，拳打脚踢、公开侮辱（insult）或是罚请客。改变中午午睡的习惯实在是困难，但只有这个时候，校园是最清静的。刚开始两三天，李阳充满激情，冲好咖啡，带上风油精，奔赴战场(battlefield)。
但没过几天，吃饱饭以后的懒惰，“从明天开始”的恶劣惯性使李阳向舒适的床上爬去。
“你去不去？”“实在太累了，明天再去吧！”“你记不记得你的诺言？”“ 我记得。但我还是不想去！”“那我可要开始侮辱你了。”“随你的便吧！” 见硬的不行，他就来软的。
“只要稍微坚持一下，你就可以创造奇迹。世界上人的智力都差不多，成功的人就是坚持的人。如果瞌睡，也到烈士亭去睡，做做样子也是需要的，因为一旦今天停下来，明天又会再找个理由不去。你将来会为今天的选择感到自豪的！” 就这样，李阳坚持了下来！对自己的挑战取得了第一次胜利！
无论是下雨还是刮风下雪，每天中午，两个身影在烈士亭准时出现。刚开始，一些过路人把他们当疯子（lunatic;a mad man）、神经病。后来，逐渐不断的有人从围观、犹豫、激动到放下脸皮加入进来。李阳自豪地回忆说：在冬天的大雪中喊英语，感觉棒极了。穿着军大衣和部队的大头皮鞋，在雪花中大声喊着，跳着，就像是武打影片中的报仇故事，苦练春夏秋冬，以雪国耻家仇。
整整四个月，从秋末到春天即将来临，他和同学们以顽强的毅力高声复述完了近十本各类原版英文书，涉及流行口语教材、美国历史、文化、总统演讲以及大量科普、经济金融管理方面的文章和书籍。
背诵这些文章，对于李阳来说是不可能的（背诵中文都是很难的），他所说的复述是指当时能够将文章里的句子复述出来，然后将“特别地道、特别常用”的句子收集到笔记本上（形成李阳引以为傲的“财富本”），重点攻击。这就产生了李阳疯狂英语突破法的核心(core)：句子中心论。大量的句子操练使单词和语法获得了反复巩固(consolidate;strengthen),并且成为最活单词、最活语法。三最口腔肌肉训练法的诞生
李阳在大喊英语中发现，英语讲不好主要是因为说惯了中文的嘴巴肌肉不适应英语的发音习惯，就像一个打惯了乒乓球的人非常不适应打羽毛球。中英文两种语言有些发音的习惯是一样的，但很多发音所用到的口腔肌肉部位是不同的。因为我们讲了十多年、几十年的中文，汉语部分的肌肉非常发达、完美，那些英语特殊发音所要用的肌肉就相对落后(underdeveloped)、僵硬(stiff/rigid)。通过最大声、最快速、最清晰的操练，强行锻炼口腔肌肉，很快一个“陌生拗口”的句子就能脱口而出。

他在北京故宫举行万人英语演说；他在上海外滩办起了盛况空前的英语互动课堂，他到革命老区遵义，领着成千上万的英语学子们疯狂呐喊英语。

所以，李阳十分感慨地说，我愿意把以后的精力放在两件事情上：一个教育自我，另外一个通过教育自我获得经验再传授给别人。读大学后他渴望突破性格的障碍，在英语中找到自信，所以取了“疯狂”这个词，取意为全身心的投入，超越极限。而如今，疯狂英语给大家的印象就是帮你把英语说出来，大家一听到疯狂英语就认为是能快速把英语讲好的一个方法，就像新东方最早的时候就是应试英语一样，一听到新东方就会马上反映到考上托福拿高分。
李阳说，疯狂英语应该诉求两点：一个是突破聋哑英语的一个很好的办法，另外一个是人生奋斗的精神。很多人讲它在精神上对人的鼓舞超过了方法，我则希望两者并重，如果只是个精神的东西那方法也太失败了，我希望它首先是个好方法，同时呢，也包括一些人生励志的主题，比如永远不要让祖国失望，学好英语就是爱国等等。应该说不止成百上千的方法都是要把英语说出来的，不止是疯狂英语，其实大家的目的是为了交流。那么“疯狂英语”跟他们的区别就在于：我们发起的时间比较早，1988年的时候，中国还没有什么口语的概念，我们的持续性比较强，影响力比较大，另外还有一个核心的人物，品牌的影响力要更大，我想的就是这些区别吧。
“李阳疯狂英语”的受众群体是所有去学英语的人，而且是全世界学习英语的人，所以他们在韩国的《评比周刊》中疯狂英语影响力名列第一，他们在日本的影响力、在亚洲的影响力也非常大，而且在德国、美国、加拿大这样的英语强势国家也有很大影响。
最初创造“疯狂英语”这种学习方法，也没有太多的想法，李阳回忆道，当时只是觉得自己比较喜欢教英语。
1988年在兰大读书的李阳，办起了第一期疯狂英语培训班，一人收八块钱，有几百人报名，那个时侯，二千多块钱，是一笔丰厚的收入了。一般人平均一个月的生活费也就是几十块钱，这是李阳的第一桶金。
受到鼓励的他，将这第一桶金全部用来继续印资料。不停地办班、办演讲。既没有商业的概念，也没有品牌的意识。赚到的钱马上把它印成“我的学习方法”，白天上课，晚上熬夜用手刻版，然后印好多好多份，只要有人请他去讲座，就人手一册免费发放，有时一万多人也照样发给他们，钱就这样用掉了。也是在这过程中品牌慢慢产生，莫明其妙的成了叫响的品牌。
自信，造就品牌
1990年李阳大学毕业被分配到西安西北电子设备研究所当了一年半助理工程师，从事军事和民用卫星地面站工作。这一年中他坚持每天清晨在单位九楼顶大喊英、法、德、日语，进一步实践和完善了“疯狂英语突破法”。
1992年，李阳因出色的英语水平被调入广州筹办的中国第一家省级英语电台—广东人民广播电台英文台，并担任新闻播音员。“TALKSHOW”(脱口秀)节目主持人，同时主持广州电视台的英语新闻节目，是广州地区最受欢迎的英语播音员。
李阳用其独创的方法练就了一口连美国人都难以分辨的地道美语，他配音的广告，在香港和东南亚电视台广泛播送。同时，他也是广州著名的独立口译员、双语主持人和美国总领事馆文化处、农业处和商务处的特邀翻译，被人誉为“万能翻译机”，圆满地完成了各种大型国际会议、谈判和外事访问的口译任务。例如在中美关系处于紧张状态的1993年底，李阳担任了美国众议院外交委员会首席顾问理查德.布什先生关于“克林顿当选总统以来美国对华政策的制订过程”重要演讲的现场口译，获得了中美双方的高度赞赏。
李阳独立完成的主要口译还有信息高速公路、移动通讯、知识产权保护、电脑软件保护、最惠国待遇问题、关贸总协定、国际环境保护、公司法和证券等等专题的演讲、国际研讨会和国际电视电话会议。
李阳纯正的美国英语引起不少外国记者的好奇，美国的ABC广播网、英国的BBC、香港电台(RTHK)、日本放送协会(NHK)、苏格兰国家电视一台以及加拿大国际广播电台等都曾采访过他。
这段时期，应该是李阳人生中比较辉煌的时期。谁也没有想到，这个在新闻界已经崭露头角的“英语第一嘴”会抽身下海，辞掉了公职。因为他有两个梦想:“让3亿中国人说一口流利的英语—让中国之声响彻全世界”、“让3亿外国人讲一口漂亮的汉语—21世纪将是中国人走向全世界，用中文„折磨‟外国人的世纪”。
这个宣言，真正是李阳式的疯狂。1994年，李阳下海组建了“李阳国际英语推广工作室”。即便在这个时候，“李阳疯狂英语”还只是有牌无品，没有统一的标志和系列产品的出笼。1996年李阳文化教育发展有限公司成立，那时虽然知道品牌对一个企业的发展有着至关重要作用，但是由于受到国人认知习惯的困扰，“李阳疯狂英语”这个品牌，一直令他犹豫不决。真正被接受还是2002年，李阳上了中央电视台的春节晚会，“李阳.疯狂英语”系列才算成为他心目中不再犹疑的品牌。
接下来的几年时间，“李阳.疯狂”系列，迅速开始全方位注册。从“克立兹国际网上英语学院”、“李阳疯狂英语”到“李阳疯狂皮具”，把几乎所有的行业，40多类全部注册。李阳希望“李阳疯狂英语”能成为英语教学行业中的第一品牌，全球化的一个品牌，因为只要有人在的地方都会有人学外语，包括像美国这样的移民大国。比如刚下台的加拿大总理，李阳说;因为他是法国人，英语一直有语法问题，所以他一直都在学习英语。我们希望疯狂英语就像麦当劳、肯得基那样，会像连锁店一样遍布世界，它的影响力，应该说想到学外语就想到疯狂英语，外国人很喜欢“疯狂英语”这个名字，亚洲人也喜欢，中国虽走过一段犹疑的路，但大家都习以为常了，尤其是年轻人非常喜欢这个名字。
“李阳·疯狂”演绎品牌
在更大范围普及“疯狂英语”的同时，“李阳·疯狂”系列品牌的合作也在紧锣密鼓地展开。强强联合，推动教育，民族事业支持民族企业。李阳把自己的追求纳入了振兴民族的时代大潮，通过自己的讲学去宣传帮助民族工业。2001年4月，李阳首次与知名企业合作，为步步高语言复读机提供疯狂英语解决方案；2001年10月与“金山软件公司”合作，共同开发“金山词霸”“金山快译”。并与金山公司共同承办了“金山--李阳英语疯狂夜”；国际著名企业美国宝洁公司在中国各大主要城市创办“飘柔自信学院”，李阳现身说法，坐堂第一课，等等。
2000年5月，李阳应邀出访日本、南韩进行讲学，“李阳疯狂英语”迅即风靡亚洲。日本国家电视台NHK用7分钟的新闻节目，向全日本报道了李阳疯狂英语;作为中国著名的英语口语教育家，李阳应邀与韩国著名企业合作，进行产品开发。韩国三星等大型企业纷纷邀请李阳前往讲学，并在韩国成立了“李阳疯狂英语亚洲研发中心”。2001年8月，“李阳疯狂英语”韩国版问世。
自此，“李阳疯狂英语”作为“李阳·疯狂”系列的核心品牌，真正地走出了国门，成为国际化品牌。
李阳现在忙着一个CEO该忙的事情，那就是如何将他称作“土包子”的品牌，变成真正健全的国际化品牌，把它变成永久的企业。所以，他们请来了咨询顾问公司、金融公司、各方面的律师事务所对“李阳疯狂英语”进行全面的整理，以后准备上市。
李阳打趣地说：目前它还是一个民间的东西，我要把它做成国际知名品牌。现在是个好时机，海归的人不少，很多留学的都回来了，职业经理人在慢慢地增加，我要为它物色一个出色的CEO。我对品牌体会不太多，因为我还是个搞学术的人，一天到晚研究的还是如何教英语，直到今天为止。别人都说，品牌是企业的一切，企业的生命，没有品牌就完了，我自己没有特别的感触，但我知道未来时代就是品牌时代，一切都是品牌，现在学校都讲究品牌，各行业都是品牌，品牌是多年积累的，我的品牌完全是我自己讲学讲出来的。
我的方法演绎已经形成了这个平台，进一步的演绎和完善，应该是下一任CEO的事情。我不能当CEO，CEO好辛苦，我应该在哪？游山玩水，遍访各地名家和各地高僧交流，为企业提供一些点子，就像架构师一样。那个时候我就真的可以像他们说的那样，做我这个领域里的比尔·盖茨了。
他说，最终他希望这个品牌和他没关系，因为以后有关系的话会有风险，如果个人出现什么问题，个人很多东西就会影响到这个品牌。慢慢地他出头的机会将越来越少，渐渐地淡化。这个名字，最后成为一个符号，然后全部的价值就附着在这个名字上面了。
以后肯定过五六年，我可能做什么事都没关系了！他很轻松地说：我可能会开个饭店，或到世界各地去转一转，流浪一下，没关系，真正按照一个品牌经营了，这是目前我们在努力做的一件事情。
我们疯狂英语出版业已经很大了，现在需要一些人生励志的东西去支撑。因为有很多人学了却坚持不下去，所以疯狂英语将会成为一种哲学思想，我们会发展一整套的教育思想，家教思想。归纳成我们的“疯狂哲学”，达到关注人的成长，提供人生的选择性的需要，比如说我们还有《疯狂健康》，《疯狂管理》等等。我目前在李嘉诚开办的“长江商学院”修习企业管理，等我修完后，再有几年的实践经验，我就做一本《疯狂管理》，《疯狂管理》肯定会让人把最大的潜质发挥出来，达到所有管理方式的最佳结局。一个人在工作的时候享受工作，并通过工作全面提升自我。疯狂英语只是我的语言品牌，但他是我的核心品牌，我要超越一步，现在我的这个品牌远远高于别人，我还要把这个品牌做到最好，能够引发大家的共鸣，感动大家，做好美誉度。然后在这个品牌上搭建起的其他东西，相信一定会有更大的魅力，一定会成功！
