Book Review on Crime and Punishment

Should it be verified as legal to kill those people who deserve it? The controversial issue, on which had been argued for decades, was

eventually displayed vividly in the form of a fiction called Crime and Punishment.In effect, the author, Feodor Dostoevsky, called the most insightful writer among all the Russian writers, adapted part of his real experiences for the thought-provoking masterpiece.By the time that he finished this classic, Dostoevsky had already reached his literature peak where his profound expressions overwhelmed any picky critics.It is apparently a story-telling fiction which combines the hero’s

paradoxical mind with his seemingly absurd behaviors.Roughly speaking, the whole story, as the title indicates, can be divided into two parts--the crime and the punishment, though entangled with each other occasionally.The classic started with the poor university student’s crime of killing the outrageous old loan shark and her sister, which boded ill for the boy living under the poverty line.The rest section served as the depiction of the boy’s anguish and guilt, indeed punishments more severe than death sentences.Fortunately endowed with a happy ending, the story ended up with the hero and the heroine’s awaking from their crimes and devoting to a new life.Listed as one of the greatest writers who were proficient in describing

mental details, Dostoevsky spared no effort to successfully portray

Raskolnikov as an upright, but desperate, somewhat neurotic boy, as if we kept no distance with the hero and could read his mind without difficulty.Whereas some rigorous still point out that the so-called torturous boy shouldn’t get away with capital punishments, exactly where the story was out of accordance with our laws and morals.For all the praises and criticisms, the unprecedented masterpiece, more often than not, is comparable with The Red and the Black to some extent, especially the characteristic of the heroes.With both positive and negative personality existing meanwhile, the main character lingered over some issues which determined their fates more or less.In view of the social atmosphere then, we can safely arrive at the

conclusion that it was the hideous society that was to blame, and that was the hidden criminal to make for so many miserable cases, even

Raskolnikov’s homicide case included.Therefore, it is not simply a novel od crime, or a novel of love, or that of punishment, but a perfect

combination of all these themes which readers who have a preference for detailed psychological descriptions will gain access to savor to their heart’s contents.All things considered, Crime and Punishment surely lives up to its high ranking state amongst all the literary works and really worths reading.

善良无法逃脱道德的牢

——《罪与罚》读书报告

陀思妥耶夫斯基是俄国杰出的现实主义大师。其巨著《罪与罚》以19世纪60年代沙俄京城的黑暗、赤贫、绝望、污浊的社会现实为背景，冷峻地描画了大学生拉斯柯尔尼科夫被穷困潦倒的生活逼迫而杀人犯罪，能够逃脱法律的制裁却没法忍受良心的折磨而自首的故事。现实主义作家对于沙俄社会现实的不满，转化为创作中的严酷生活的刻画，深刻揭露了日趋尖锐的社会矛盾，满腔激愤地表达了作家对底层人民的真切同情，从而产生了针砭时弊，振聋发聩的社会影响。

一、没有活路的困境

拉斯柯尔尼科夫是个心地善良、乐于助人，充满正义感的青年。可是他交不起房租，交不起学费，老太婆房东放高利贷催逼，遇到的马尔美拉陀夫因为失业而酗酒，他女儿索尼娅不得不做娼妓维持生活。这一切的一切都让拉斯柯尔尼科夫感到恐惧和厌恶，平凡人的生活就只能这样吗？

对于拉斯柯尔尼科夫来说，如果甘愿做逆来顺受的“平凡的人”，那么等待他的是马尔美拉陀夫的悲惨结局，如果去做一个不顾一切道德准则的“人类主宰者”，那就会与为非作歹的卑鄙之徒卢仁和斯维德里加伊洛夫同流合污。

无论哪种选择，都不是他想接受的，生活已经不给他活路。

二、无可逃避的痛苦

小说中，拉斯柯尔尼科夫对索尼娅说：“投水自尽，一下子结束这一切，倒更正确些，正确一千倍，也明智一千倍！”索尼娅对他的话一点儿也不感到惊讶，而只是问了一声：“那他们（卡捷琳娜·伊万诺芙娜和三个孤儿）呢？”

死亡是普通人处理这种两难困境最直接的方式。可是对于拉斯柯尔尼科夫和索尼娅来说，死亡也是极大的放纵和奢侈。他们对亲人还负有责任，死亡也难以逃避良心的谴责。犯罪的原因与其说主人公忍受不了艰苦贫困，不如说他无法承受的是没有希望、没有未来和身边的丑恶。

拉斯柯尔尼科夫犯罪的想法基于房东阿廖娜是个纯粹的恶人，社会的渣宰，“她是个毫无用处、毫无价值、愚蠢凶恶而且有病的老太婆。”在他杀人之前和军官的谈话里，他说：“我真想把这个该死的老太婆杀了，抢走她的钱，请你相信，我一点儿也不会感到良心的谴责。”他甚至觉得杀了阿廖娜，就可以把她的钱分给千千万万个穷人，改善他们的生活。这种极富空想社会主义的想法毫无疑问是不合理的。

即使那老太婆是个彻头彻尾的恶棍，可她并没有违反当时社会的法律。拉斯柯尔尼科夫只是一个普通人，也没有审判和裁决他人命运的权力。更何况，拉斯柯尔尼科夫心中还有强烈的道德观念。杀害阿廖娜，既不合情，也不合理。这些因素导致了拉斯柯尔尼科夫杀人之后，始终承受着良心的谴责。在其他人承认了杀害阿廖娜的罪行之后，拉斯柯尔尼科夫更加难以忍受道德的折磨，最终选择了自首。

三、道德的牢笼

道德，是迫使他承认罪行的核心因素。

在西方历史里，文明起源于犯罪；在西方现行的经济制度里，认为人都是自私的。西方向来缺少崇高的道德榜样。人类相互残杀建立起一个不允许相互残杀的社会，却把当年杀了

无数人的人奉为领袖。这种想法让拉斯柯尔尼科夫难以接受。

人类历史的道德本质是什么？更是个难以回答的问题。

而在19世纪60年代的沙俄社会，整个社会处于病态的不公平和不道德之中，没有合理的制度调节社会的运行，也没有合理的政策保障利益，社会风气糜烂。在这样的社会里，想要做一个好人是很困难的。

社会同化的力量是强大的。无论在什么样的社会，如果一个人没法和身边的人做同样的事，有相同的价值观念，就很难生存下去。在一个善良人生活在恶意人之中时，这种特征尤为明显。主人公力量的渺小，使他解决这种两难的局面变成了不可能。主人公甚至无法逃离这种生活，最终无法承受的痛苦和不切实际的幻想让他杀掉了房东。

我觉得很荒唐的是，主人公从来没有抛弃过良心和道德，可他却能狠下心来杀人。而杀人之后，又没法忍受自己良心的谴责，只能服从对自己的罪行审判，去西伯利亚服刑，遇到索尼娅之后，俩人虔诚的信奉基督，从宗教中寻求精神的救赎。

然而，作为邪恶代言人出现的阿廖娜其实只是当时社会大多数人的代表。拉斯柯尔尼科夫因为一个不切实际的想法杀了阿廖娜，甚至还杀掉了并不怎么邪恶的莉扎薇塔。

我觉得，拉斯柯尔尼科夫才是个真正的幻想狂，他只是因为

人物的思想的矛盾和冲突在杀人前后的内心痛苦中表现得淋漓尽致。主人公被生活扭曲的人性，在逃亡中，良心的不断谴责下逐渐回归。而索尼娅的出现像是一面无比清晰的镜子，让主人公发现了自己良知的影子。

犯罪的原因：

一、内心的矛盾冲突

二、毫无道理的谋杀

三、道德的牢笼

四、自杀是放纵

当时的俄国是个严重不公平的非道德性社会，小人物生活在社会的底层，无力改变人生和命运。即使是大学生，在面对扭曲残酷，缺乏机会的社会现实时，也只能屈服于社会的现实，在贫困的生活中苦苦挣扎。

主人公拉斯柯尔尼科夫不甘心受命运的摆布，不想变成马尔美拉陀夫那样的可怜人。其实在当时的社会，卑劣谋生的手段仍然不少，但是主人公没法放弃内心的善良和正直，因而只能在生活的苦海中煎熬。

The main character of the novel Crime and Punishment by Feodor Dostoevsky, Raskolnikov, is in reality two totally contradicting personalities.One part of him is the the intellectual.He is cold, unfeeling and inhumane.He exibits tremendous self-will.It is this side that enables him to commit the most terrible crime imaginablewhat is it to me? At one time Raskolnikov is both caring and concerned and yet he is able to push aside the whole affair by being totally indifferent.The goal of the novel is to make Raskolnikov into one character.Sonya helps bring Raskolnikov back into his emotional, humane side.Through her suffering, she shows him that it is important to have a love for all humanity and that no person should ever be able to exist like a parasite off of another person.Porifery, the official investigating the crime, acts as the intellectual who shows Roskolnikov that all intellect must be used for the good of mankind.

B:Year,I read it before.It should be a social novel.A: 恩，是的。我还记得小说场景：草市场上眼睛被打得发青的妓女，污浊的河水中挣扎着的投河自尽的女工，被马车撞倒在街头的穷困潦倒的小公务员，带着孩子沿街乞讨的发疯女人。高利贷老太婆凶狠的眼睛，满身铜臭的市侩，荒淫无度的贵族地主。

C: 确实是一部典型的social novel。那些震撼人心的悲惨画面深深印在人们心中。连绵的悬念，跌宕的情节和急促的文字，使小说始终具有紧张感、压抑感，具有震撼人心的艺术力量。B：en, description of reality of this novel is really good.But I have something opposite to the author.A:我也有这种感觉。比如那个索尼娅。作者把她写得如此高尚，把她看作人类苦难的象征，甚至让她最终将主人公唤回上帝的怀抱。我觉得不恰当。统治者一边压迫人民，一边用宗教告诉他们要忍。那个索尼娅就是愚民工具的产物。

Friendship

Recently, I read a book named „Shuang Leng Chang He‟which is written by Yu Qiuyu.There are some essays about philosophic theory of human life in this book.However, I was attractive by the essay of friendship for I was told the essence of friendship and learnt how to make friends with others.Friendship is an eternal theme we examine and explore.But what is friendship? What is the real meaning of friendship? As we know, friendship is a life-long treasure.With friends, we share our joys and tears.Friendship is not a commodity with a price, nor should we alienate our friends by questioning or judging their virtues.In traditional culture of China, most of the literary men admire the friendship between Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi.They hold the point that mountain stream with a knowing ear is the luckiest thing and looking forward to this kind of friendship in their whole life.However, a bosom friend is not easy to find in the real world.It usually comes that the person is your friend today, and tomorrow would be your enemy.Even more, when a person was deceived or betrayed by his friends, he would never trust any friends.Usually, people will try their best to help their friends, even their lives when needed.However they find it hard to forgive the friend who betrayed them.Hence, how to establish friendly relationship is very important and necessary for human beings.There is a Chinese saying goes, you depend on your parents when you stay at home, and you depend on your friends when you go out.This kind of saying indicates that the importance of friends, at the same time it means the value of friends is for dependence.Therefore, will you make friends with a person who has no use for you? Even though you are unwilling to cheat in the exam, you still promise to offer help and endure the suffering yourself from treating.Every man alone is sincere.At the entrance of a second person, hypocrisy begins.Emerson said “A friend is a person with whom I may be sincere.I do not wish to treat friendship daintily, but with roughest courage.” From these words, we know that friendship is built on sincerity, and sincerity is based on equality of personality.Without sincerity and equality of personality, people will not trust others and make friends with others in heart.In addition to this, Aristotle also said that wishing to be friends is quick work, but friendship is a slow-ripening fruit.Maybe it only takes one second time to be friends, but you will spend more time to establish friendly relationships.Pure friendship without judgment can enrich our life.We have our own judgments on our friends according to their virtues.Though you find virtues in your friends, he was your friend before you found them.If you choose your friends on the ground that you are virtues and want virtuous company, you are no nearer to true friendship than of choosing them for commercial reasons.Though you may choose the virtuous to be your friends, they may not choose you as a friend.Nevertheless, without judgment does not mean that you should ignore what is right and wrong to support you friends without condition.Unquestioning support will bring disaster finally.From this article, people may feel that it is not easy to find a real friend.In fact the problem is we require too much from friendship, such as the sense of belonging, obligation and other virtues.If we get rid of this kind of demand and fetter, we will understand the friendship clearly and enjoy it completely.Friendship is just like a seed which we should look after carefully.Cherish is a virtue.A friend is a friend;you should cherish the relationship maintain it with hearts.What‟s more, we should
