i have a dream---martin luther king i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation.this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves, who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice.it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.it would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment.this sweltering summer of the negros legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality.nineteen sixty-three is not an end but a beginning.those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual.there will be neither rest nor tranquility in america until the negro is granted his citizenship rights.the whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.but there is something that i must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold, which leads into the palace of justice.in the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds.let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.we must ever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.we must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.i have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.i have a dream that one day on the red hills of georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.i have a dream that one day even the state of mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.i have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.i have a dream today!i have a dream that one day, down in alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification;one day right down in alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.i have a dream today!i have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.and so let freedom ring--from the prodigious hilltops of new hampshire.let freedom ring--from the mighty mountains of new york.let freedom ring--from the heightening alleghenies of pennsylvania.let freedom ring--from the snow-capped rockies of colorado.let freedom ring--from the curvaceous slopes of california.but not only that.let freedom ring--from stone mountain of georgia.let freedom ring--from lookout mountain of tennessee.let freedom ring--from every hill and molehill of mississippi, from every mountainside, let freedom ring!and when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of gods children, black men and white men, jews and gentiles, protestants and catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old negro spiritual, free at last, free at last.thank god almighty, we are free at last.inaugural address------john f.kennedy we observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom, symbolizing an end as well as a beginning, signifying renewal as well as change.for i have sworn before you and almighty god the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three-quarters ago.let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.this much we pledge--and more.to those old allies whose cultural and spiritual origins we share, we pledge the loyalty of faithful friends.united there is little we cannot do in a host of cooperative ventures.divided there is little we can do, for we dare not meet a powerful challenge at odds and split asunder.if a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.finally, to those nations who would make themselves our adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace--before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self-destruction.let us never negotiate out of fear.but let us never fear to negotiate.let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us.let both sides, for the first time, formulate serious and precise proposals for the inspection and control of arms, and bring the absolute power to destroy other nations under the absolute control of all nations.and if a beachhead of cooperation may push back the jungle of suspicion, let both sides join in creating a new endeavor--not a new balance of power, but a new world of law--where the strong are just, and the weak secure, and the peace preserved.all this will not be finished in the first one hundred days.nor will it be finished in the first one thousand days;nor in the life of this administration;nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet.but let us begin.in your hands, my fellow citizens, more than mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course.since this country was founded, each generation of americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty.the graves of young americans who answered the call to service surround the globe.can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, north and south, east and west, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? will you join in that historic effort? and so, my fellow americans, ask not what your country can do for you;ask what you can do for your country.my fellow citizens of the world, ask not what america will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.finally, whether you are citizens of america or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you.with a good conscience our only sure reward, withhistory the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking his blessing and his help, but knowing that here on earth gods work must truly be our own.mr.chief justice and friends: this is a day of national consecration.and i am certain that on this day my fellow americans expect that on my induction into the presidency i will address them with a candor and a decision which the present situation of our people impels.this is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly.nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today.this great nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper.so, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself--nameless, ueasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.in every dark hour of our national life, a leadership of frankness and a vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory.and i am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.true, they have tried.but their efforts have been cast in the pattern of an outworn tradition.faced by failure of credit, they have proposed only the lending of more money.stripped of the lure of profit by which to induce our people to follow their false leadership, they have resorted to exhortations, pleading tearfully for restored confidence.they only know the rules of a generation of self-seekers.they have no vision, and when there is no vision the people perish.yes, the money changers have fled from their high seats in the temple of our civilization.we may now restore that temple to the ancient truths.the measure of that restoration lies in the extent to which we apply social values more noble than mere monetary profit.happiness lies not in the mere possession of money;it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.the joy, the moral stimulation of work no longer must be forgotten in the mad chase of evanescent profits.these dark days, my friends, will be worth all they cost us if they teach us that our true destiny is not to be ministered unto but to minister to ourselves, to our fellow men.recognition of that falsity of material wealth as the standard of success goes hand in hand with the abandonment of the false belief that public office and high political position are to be valued only by the standards of pride of place and personal profit;and there must be an end to a conduct in banking and in business which too often has given to a sacred trust the likeness of callous and selfish wrongdoing.small篇二:精彩英语演讲开场白示例 精彩英语演讲开场白示例

My Hometown—Inner Mongolia

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, today, I would like to introduce my beloved hometown—Inner Mongolia to all of you.It has been 57 years since the birth of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on May 1st, 1947.Dominated by the Mongolian nationality, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located on the northern frontier of China. The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region occupies an area of 1.18 million square kilometers and has a population of about 20 million people who represent a score of different nationalities.Every time when people talk about Inner Mongolia, they’ll come down to the vast grassland.Yes, the Inner Mongolian prairie area makes up a quarter of the total grassland area of the country. On the boundless expanse of the Inner Mongolian prairie are living numerous sheep, Cattle and horses, on which our Mongolian have lived for generations. That is why the grassland is eulogized as ―cradle of life‖.There are two vast grasslands in my hometown—Hulun Buir Grasslands and Xilin Gol Grasslands which are both world-famous regions.People in Inner Mongolia are famous for their bravery, enthusiasm and hospitality. No mater where you are from, as long as you come to a herdsman’s house, you will be warmly entertained with roasted whole lamb and milk tea, and what’s more, you can also appreciate beautiful Mongolian songs and elegant dances. It is not exaggerating to say Mongolians are born singers and dancers. The moment you set your feet on the grassland areas you will discover it is indeed a real land of songs and dances.Today’s Inner Mongolia still maintains her ethnic characteristics and at the dame time, she tries to keep pace with the development of the modern world.Ordus is a worldwide well-known brand, Yili and Mengniu are both the famous dairy industries, which have greatly improved the living standard of our Mongolian people. And I’m sure, our Mongolian people will make great effort to contribute to our hometown. As a college student, I know quite clearly that my mission is to master solid knowledge and one day do good to my beloved hometown.

23 I can hadle it

I can hadle it

I can never forget the summer in 1996.I went through an extremity of despair due to my failure in the National College Entrance Examination. It seemed that my dream of being a university student would never come true. One evening my father came and told me the story of Steven Callahan, who was crossing the Atlantic alone in his sailboat when it struck something and sank.It was a miracle that he survived and was found 76 days later(the longest anyone has survived a shipwreck on a life raft alone).Later in his narrative he wrote these sentences ―I tell myself I can handle it.Compared to what others have been through I’m fortunate‖.Hearing these sentences I felt something important struck me.I belived my life would mot be that bad and it was proved to be true.Later during my study in the university I always told myself ―I can handle it‖ when my own goals seemed far off or when my problems seemed too overwhelming and every time I said it ,I always came back to my senses. Now I work as an English teacher in a middle school.Whenever my students complain about their difficulties in study or want to give up, I will tell the same story of Callahan to them.I just want to make them believe they can handle their difficulties because their circumstances are only bad compared to something better. But others have been through much worse. Then they will build up fortitude. So here, coming to us from the extreme edge of survival, are words that can give us strength.Whatever you’re going through, tell yourself you can handle it.Compared to what others have been through, you’re fortunate.Tell this to yourself over and over, and it will help you get through the rough spots with little more fortitude.

21 Me and my Fears

Me and my Fears

Honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:

It is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful Saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the English language.About a year and a half ago, I took part in my very first English Speech Contest. When I stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, I could hardly speak.I stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say.My fears had paralyzed me.While my passion for English has never changed, I lost my courage to speak in public. When my professor again encouraged me to take part in this Competition, I said ―no.‖ I couldn’t endure yet another painful experience. He looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart.I will never forget his words.―Look,‖ he said, ―We all have our fears, and you have yours. You could twist your ankle in a basketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again.Running away can never dispel your fears, but action will.A winner is not one who never fails, but one who never quits.‖

I spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind. Then I made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: I would face my fears – and take part in the competition!

As it turned out, my dear old professor was right. Now, here I am, once again standing before a microphone. My heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, I have faced my fears--and that makes all the difference!

Thank you.

Ladies and gentlemen,We engineering students take it for granted that technology is changing incredibly fast.We are thinking nervously and seriously whether our colleges are failing to provide a foundation in the skills currently needed in industry.Take my major telecommunications for example.Scientists say that 21st century is a biomedical time, not an electrical time. But without the help of electronic data processing and transformation, biomedical technology alone cannot go too far.Funny enough, the word biomedical itself is just a combination of two disciplines. So the interdisciplinary exploitation serves as the critical part for our electric and electronics world as well as any other fields to find new way of being. But the power of knowledge collaboration is certainly not restricted to science and engineering;it is in the full community of learning.Walking around campus I absorbed a reality that there is a seamless web between students from different professional backgrounds. The engineering students are discussing animatedly in a philosophy lecture, speaking passionately in the public speaking club, and looking for sparkling ideas from learning history and arts. How wonderful that is!That, ladies and gentleman, is just a significant step forward to be well-rounded because once we jump out of the circle we can see the bigger picture. My friends, I hope that you have already got what university is all about. Please let me end my speech with the Nobel Prize winner Li Zhengdao’s words: ―The realization of the perfect combination of science and engineering, science and arts, technology and humanity,is the greatest symbol of a university’s success.‖ Thank you.

The Future Is Now-The Choice is yours

The Future Is Now-The Choice is yours

As two men were about to be sent into prison, the warden let each of them make a demand. The American loved smoking, so he wanted three boxes of cigars;while the Jew said all he needed was a telephone to contact with people outside of the prison. Two years later, the first out was the American who still had many cigars in his hands and pockets but was crying: ―Give me some matches!‖ Then the Jew walked out, he shook hands with the warden and said: ―Thank you for the phone, it made my business increase by 200%.‖

What do you think of this story? Life today is what you’ve decided years ago, and so is the future: your decisions today will affect your destiny years later. Now I have two things to choose from: to go abroad, to find myself a decent job after graduation or to further my study as a postgraduate.I haven’t worked out an answer to this question yet, but I know that whatever I do will directly affect my future. An Indian once said life is just like a game of cards, the cards in your hand represent opportunities, while the way you play decides the result you’ll get.Looking back in history, during World War Ⅱ, Churchill who led the British people resolved to expect ―blood, toil, tears and sweat‖.They won the victory then.Today Shenzhou 5 took the first Chinese astronaut into space.I am sure that later there’ll be more spacecrafts, like Shenzhou 6,7 and 8 ……

So what does the future look like? No one can tell. But I know the choice is yours, the future is now.Make good use of everyday, a man can achieve greater successes, a country can gain prosperity and the whole world can be united, as it has never been before.

18 LIFE IS A CHOICE

LIFE IS A CHOICE

In our daily lives, we have many choices to make, such as what to eat for supper, what clothes to wear, or what to do on weekends. At certain times in our lives, we need to make even more critical choices, such as which school to attend, what job to take or who to choose as husband or wife.Yes, life is a matter of choice.Seemimgly, it means a choice of tangible things. But in essence, it means choosing a way of life.Life is to be lived, savored, and enjoyed, not to be wasted or complained about.Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the grave threat from the life-and-death disease--SARS.Yet, even during those dreadful times, some afflicted people remained optimistic.Instead of wearing neutral white masks, some people turned to colouful ones, and thus display a happy mood. And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean ”SMILE AND REMAIN SMILING.“ I was deeply touched by their optimisim, nearly forgetting that we're still in a battle.people who survive these kinds of circumstances,(at some point)decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the overwhelming odds.laid-off workers, typically regarded as the victims of economic advancement, are subject to desperation that being unmeployed has brought on them. But, encouragingly, we have witnessed some of them striving hard to rebuild confidence toward life and discover new opportunities for demonstrating their values.Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters and adversities, we do have the privilege to choose to live optimistcally,to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherish hopes.Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approach life that day.As for me, I choose to be cheerful.

Good afternoon, everybody.I just want to say a few words about the landmark vote that the House of Representatives is poised to(随时准备着)take today--a vote that can bring us one step closer to making real the promise of quality, affordable(支付得起)health care for the American people. For the better part of a year now, members of the House and the Senate have been working diligently(勤奋地)and constructively to craft legislation that will benefit millions of American families and millions of American businesses who urgently need it.For the first time ever, they've passed bills through every single committee responsible for reform. They've brought us closer than we have ever been to passing health insurance reform on behalf of the American people. Now is the time to finish the job.The bill that the House has produced will provide stability and security for Americans who have insurance;quality, affordable options for those who don't;and lower costs for American families and American businesses. And as I've insisted from the beginning, it is a bill that is fully paid for and will actually reduce our long-term federal deficit(赤字,不足).This bill is change that the American people urgently need.Don't just take my word for it.Consider the national groups who've come out in support of this bill on behalf of their members: The Consumers Union supports it because it will create--and I quote--”a more secure, affordable health care system for the American people."

The American Medical Association and the American Nurses Association support it on behalf of doctors and nurses and medical professionals who know firsthand what's broken in our current system, and who see what happens when their patients can't get the care they need because of insurance industry bureaucracies(官僚政治).The National Farmers Union supports this bill because it will control costs for farmers and ranchers(牧场主), and address the unique challenges rural Americans face when it comes to receiving quality care. And the AARP supports it because it will achieve the goal for which the AARP has been fighting for decades--reducing the cost of health care, expanding coverage for America's seniors, and strengthening Medicare for the long haul. Now, no bill can ever contain everything that everybody wants, or please every constituency(选区)and every district. That's an impossible task. But what is possible, what's in our grasp right now is the chance to prevent a future where every day 14,000 Americans continue to lose their health insurance, and every year 18,000 Americans die because they don't have it;a future where crushing costs keep small businesses from succeeding and big businesses from competing in the global economy;a future where countless dreams are deferred or scaled back because of a broken system we could have fixed when we had the chance. What we can do right now is choose a better future and pass a bill that brings us to the very cusp(尖头,尖端)of building what so many generations of Americans have sought to build--a better health care system for this country.Millions of Americans are watching right now.Their families and their businesses are counting on us.After all, this is why they sent us here, to finally confront the challenges that Washington had been putting off for decades--to make their lives better, to leave this country stronger than we found it.I just came from the Hill where I talked to the members of Congress there, and I reminded them that opportunities like this come around maybe once in a generation. Most public servants pass through their entire careers without a chance to make as important a difference in the lives of their constituents and the life of this country. This is their moment, this is our moment, to live up to the trust that the American people have placed in us--even when it's hard;especially when it's hard. This is our moment to deliver.I urge members of Congress to rise to this moment.Answer the call of history, and vote yes for health insurance reform for America.
