马克吐温著的短篇小说《百万英镑》是一部很好的作品。文章对“金钱就是一切”“金钱是万能的”的想法进行了讽刺,揭穿了资本主义社会的丑恶面容。
《百万英镑》是讲一个贫穷、诚实的人,也就是这个故事的主人公收到了一对兄弟的信,信里面送给了他一百万英镑。原来这对兄弟打了一个赌,赌如果一个贫穷、诚实的人收到天上掉下的一百万英镑,他会有怎样的结果?哥哥认为他会饿死,因为他无法证明这些钱是他自己的,会受到别人的怀疑,连银行都不会让他存钱。弟弟则认为他会过得很好,于是他们兄弟俩将一百万英镑的支票借给了这个贫穷的人,并出国呆了三十天。没想到在这段时间内,人们对这位突然暴富的罕见富翁,竟拼命地拉拢他,从免费吃饭,买衣服,到免费住宿,一个个像乞丐一样讨好他,并不断提高他的社会地位,一直到了除王室外最高的公爵之上!不光如此,他还得到了一位好妻子和三万英镑的银行利息,最后还从两兄弟那儿得到了一份很好的工作。过着非常非常幸福的生活。
看到这儿,我很羡慕这位如此“幸运”的主人公,但同时我又想:人们之所以讨好他,不就是因为当时人们太看重金钱了吗?拜金主义是可耻的,不劳而获更不应该!金钱不是万能的,世界上还有许多比金钱更重要的东西…… 篇二
百万英镑,这四个字听起来遥不可及,而且有些人非常渴望得到他。可读完这本书后,就不会有人这么想了。
故事发生在20世纪初的英国,一个叫亨利的来自美国的穷人收到了一张百万英镑的支票原来一对富豪兄弟正在打赌,一个穷困潦倒的人有了一张百万的支票后会怎样呢?
以前,亨利无论去吃饭、购买服装干什么都会因衣衫褴褛遭到人们的白眼。但当他拿出这张钞票时,人们不但向他大献殷勤,甚至连一些费用都可以减免,但是没有人可以给一张百万面值的钞票找零。
亨利欠下的债越来越多。渐渐地,要债的人挤满了饭店……好在一个月的期限终于到了,亚当如释重负地将支票还给了富豪兄弟,亨利早已厌倦了人们对金钱的追逐。尽管失去了金钱,但他却得到了许多。
文章读完,我和故事的主人公一样,对那些拜金主义者产生了厌恶。在他们眼里,钱是万能的。但他们却不明白,有很多东西是钱所买不到的:高尚的品质、自己的健康、家庭的幸福……
这个故事也揭露了那些拜金主义者的丑恶面孔,他们爱财胜命。在生活中,他们对待穷人和那些流浪在街头的乞丐,总显得不屑一顾,不加搭理;而对待那些有钱的人,他们总是像哈巴狗一样讨好奉承。似乎在他们眼里,只要有钱,就可以使黑的变成白的,丑的变成美的,错的变成对的,卑贱的变成尊贵的……
最后,我要提醒大家,不要被金钱的表面所迷惑,我们要最求的,是更高尚更美好的道德精神。

这本书是美国的马克吐温经典之作。书中讲述了一个矿山经纪人的办事员因开游艇开的太远,迷失方向,被一艘开往伦敦的双桅帆船救起,并以作为水手来作为路费。抵达伦敦后,他仍旧身无分文。这时,一位年长的绅士,把它叫去,并给他了一封信,便叫他走了。他来到一个小饭店,打开信,他被信里的东西几乎吓晕了!里面有一张一百万元英镑的钞票!就这样,一夜间,他成了家喻户晓的名人,在伦敦,谁都知道他。在一次晚宴上,他爱上了一位名叫波霞朗汉姆英国姑娘并和她结了婚,事后他才知道,那位给他钱的老绅士就是波霞的义父。在他和波霞的结婚典礼上,老绅士把那张一百万英镑的钞票作为礼物送给了他,他也找到了一份好工作。
这本书讽刺了某些人抵制不住金钱对人的诱惑,认为金钱是万能的,现实中我认为金钱绝对不是万能的,金钱万能论是非常错误的。金钱能买到床铺,却买不到睡眠;金钱能买到食物,却买不到口味;金钱可以买到书本,却买不到知识……金钱的确可以满足人们的虚荣心,但是这些都是虚假的,最真实的还是人坦荡的生活。就像亚当斯一样,他失去了金钱,但是他依然乐观的生活着。我们所要做的是用一颗坦然的心对待自己的生活,自己的生活要靠自己去争取,天下没有免费的午餐,只有勤劳的人才会有收获。即使你很有钱,也不见得你肯定得到你所想要的一切。
