I had to wonder: why does the development of embryos need to go through such a complex process，rather than discarding previous forms and directly developing mammalian characteristics?

“Biology,” I answered instinctively when asked to choose my major.I was intrigued by biological phenomena as a child, and the seemingly mystical precision of it filled me with questions.Why do pandas and rabbits, similar as juveniles, grow into two very different organisms? 第五篇：说说个人陈述(PS)那点事儿[定稿]

刚刚在校内和新浪微博发了一个状态：“每年到了留学申请的时候，总有人让我给看PS，而且总说“你就花5分钟看看给个评价就行”。殊不知，PS这种东西，是不能让一个不了解你的人看的，否则，给出任何的评价都是不负责任的。要想得到满意的评价和合理的建议，首先得让看的人了解你，这又岂是5分钟可以搞定的 呢？”没想到大家的回复超出了我的预期，最让我没有想到的是，居然有很多人给出“教授也不了解申请者，就不能做判断了么？”这样的反对意见。这让我很吃 惊，同时也更加理解了GRE作文考试中为什么大多数人的ARGUMENT分数很低。这个问题实际上很好解释，“教授”和“修改ps的人”是两个目的完全不 同的主体，教授通过PS来客观了解一个申请者，那么，教授得到的信息完全是PS中所传递出来的，教授仅仅是根据这个信息做出一个判断而已。而修改ps的 人，需要做的是给申请者提供有效的建议，让他能在ps中更好地传递出信息，从而让读者（也就是教授）能更好地了解申请者，这就要求修改ps的人必须要相当 了解申请者，才能告诉他如何写作是更加有效的。打个比方来说，帮忙修改情书的人和被追求的对象是完全不同的，看通缉犯画像的人和帮助警察修改画像的目击证 人也是完全不同的。

我今年帮两个朋友修改过PS，当然，申请结果现在还不知道，但是我大概统计了一下，平均我和每一个人面谈了3次，充分了解了他们的各种背景以后才开始看他 们的PS，结果是两个人的PS都重写了2-3次，才达到“可修改”的状态。可以说，干这活儿要是不想糊弄人的话，是极其劳神费力的，如果不是像专业文书写 作机构或者咨询公司这样为了赚钱，或者像我这样实在推脱不掉地给朋友义务帮忙的话。仔细想了想，实际上写PS也没有那么困难，我就简单地写一些我个人的感 受和建议好了。

首先，写ps一定不能上来就动手写，想到什么写什么，这样写出来的基本是浮云。每个人在写ps之前，先要搞清楚自己到底有哪些事儿可写，毕竟，大学四年所 做的事情，不是简单回忆就能出来的。我的建议是，先用列表把大学四年干过的，你能回忆起来的，牛逼或不牛逼的各种事情罗列出来，并且简单分类（学习、科 研、社会工作、实习、情感、其他）。这里的罗列可以不用特别具体，写清楚是什么时间，做了什么事儿，跟谁有关，能体现自己的什么特性就可以了。比如：

（1）2007年，模拟电路设计实验，想了一个特别的设计思路，做了一个和同学都不一样的电路板，失败了，跟张老师讨论，改进，成功了。体现了我的创新精神。

（2）2008年，在中关村卖电脑，早出晚归，赚钱，请同学喝酒，high了，领导林先生表扬我吃苦耐劳。

事情不论大小，能回忆起来的都写上，每件事情分类后再写上要表现的自己的优点，比如创新精神、团队精神、领导力、坚韧不拔等等。然后，从里面选出一些（数量根据自己的情况来定）作为候选素材。

第二步，用中文或者英文（取决于你的英文表达水平）勾勒PS的提纲，确定文章的结构。这里我建议大家不要去一味模仿网上所谓的“流行结构”，比如一开始讲 个故事，然

后开始引入内容等等，一定要根据自己的实际情况来决定如何搭建自己的ps结构。总的原则是：一定要在2页A4纸的范围内，把自己的特点突出出 来，并且，最好有一个渐进的过程，而在每一个渐进过程中，都有一些具体的故事来表达自己的某一些特征。在设计结构的时候，需要考虑到一些可能会在推荐信中 被放大的事实，这些事实最终会和推荐信相互呼应。比如，ps中写了在某次课程设计中，自己和老师之间的一些交流，自己做了什么事儿。那么，推荐信就可以找 这个老师来写，其中就可以从老师的角度来对你进行肯定。

第三步，把提纲进行反复修改，直到重点已经在结构中突出，并且自己很清楚地知道每个部分要反映自己的什么特点，以及和推荐信的呼应如何实现。这个时候，才 可以开始动手写ps。如果英文水平不够好，可以先写中文，再翻译成英文。在写作的时候需要注意的问题是：尽量减少对自己评价性的文字，比如“我觉得我在这 件事情中表现得非常勇猛”之类的，因为所有的评价都应该交给读者去做，而自己需要做的，仅仅是把故事讲清楚就行了，比如“我在某天晚上，一人徒手干掉了4 个歹徒。”读者可以通过文字直接得出“勇猛”的评价。

最后，把文章交给一个非常了解你的朋友，或者是家人来读，让他们发表自己的看法。如果他们最后的看法是：“这是你么？”那说明你吹的有点过。如果他们看完 了说：”嗯，这是你。写的挺真实的。”这说明你写的不够吸引人。如果看完了说：“靠，这是你么？嗯，还真是你。”恭喜你，你的ps可以用了。你自己看完了 觉得不是自己，别人看完了觉得是你，这是ps的最佳状态。至于英文的表达，没有必要追求“炫”，只要写清楚，让别人读起来没有障碍就好了。如果有条件，可 以在内容修改确定以后找一些英文写作水平比较好的人（无论中国人还是外国人都行）来给你做一些简单的修改。

基于以上的一些简单建议，我想给出这么几点附加的信息：

（1）不要依赖任何中介机构帮你写ps，他们真的做不到，而且做的不会好。优秀的中介或教育咨询机构应该是教会你如何写ps，然后不断地指导你把ps修改到最佳的状态。

（2）不要找一个不了解你的人给你修改ps，他们真的做不到。一个不了解你的人看过以后，给出的任何建议都可能是错的，因为他不了解你。除非，你先跟他聊上几次，把你的情况说清楚，当然，前提是他有时间。

（3）ps的内容永远比文字表达重要，不要认为native speaker就可以帮你搞定ps

（4）有一些学校的ps是有具体要求的，一定要看清楚再写。

（5）尽量少看别人写的ps，因为你不是他，不需要在内容上“求同”。

（6）ps不是万能的，但是没有ps是万万不能的。
