旅游英语是高职高专旅游专业学生的必修课程,要求学生在掌握专业知识的基础上, 具备一定的英语听说能力、表达能力及与人沟通的能力。但是, 由于受传统教学观念的影响,中国的应试教育模式已经使我们的学生习惯了“哑巴英语”的学习方式。现状是:一部分学生不愿开口说;一部分学生不敢开口说;也有一部分学生不会开口说;真正主动说英语者只有少数。在调查中发现,他们不主动开口说英语主要是以下原因:(1)怕说出来的英语有很多语法错误;(2)向来都不怎么主动开口说,感觉开口很别扭;(3)一开口就会紧张,就会想不出要用的词或句式;(4)基本上不知道该说什么或该怎么表达自己的想法。
另外,部分高职院校使用的是普通本科院校的教材,缺乏针对性强的旅游英语口语教材,而且部分院校教材更换过于频繁,教师疲于了解熟悉新教材,而无力把握教材讲解和语言的实践运用的有效结合,这使得英语教学与实践运用脱节。而且,由于受到应试教育体制的影响和片面就业观的影响,教师在英语教学中普遍存在知识传授比重较大,生搬硬套教材,上课满堂灌,教学方法单
一、枯燥,语言实践不足的倾向。而部分学生只注重考试的卷面分数,有的对英语根本不感兴趣。加之,三年制的课程学习过程中许多学生不仅要顾及英语过级考试还要花大力气在专业课程上,只得减少用于口语练习的时间,有的甚至放弃口语练习。
目前旅游英语教学的现状使得旅游专业的毕业生不能适应旅游业的发展需求,无法满足旅游业对高素质旅游外语人才的需求。所以,如何切实提高旅游英语教学质量显得十分迫切。
二、改进旅游英语口语教学的探讨
1.树立学生的学习信心,激发学生的学习兴趣
兴趣是最好的老师,激发学生兴趣要从第一节课开始。教学中, 第一堂课非常关键。学生对第一堂课的印象往往会影响到他今后学习的信心和积极性。第一堂课主要是要鼓舞士气, 可以列举一些通过努力自学克服英语障碍的成功范例,如李阳、教师自身,以及以前教过的学生的英语学习的经历等,证明只要有信心、肯努力就会有回报。李阳“我的誓言”内容激情洋溢,切中学生心理,能够引发学习热情,让学生将该誓言抄在笔记本扉页,在学习疲惫时激发斗志。
另外,针对学生怕开口易紧张的实际情况,教师在教学中应该注重与学生的情感交流来消除学生这些胆怯、紧张心理。前苏联着名教育家苏霍姆林斯基认为“: 情绪的力量往往是构成教学过程中最微妙最有意义的因素。”教师在课堂上创设一种积极而轻松的语言氛围,能在很大程度上消除学生的紧张心理,增进师生情感。在课堂上,教师要能抓住契机,及时地对学生的进步给予充分的肯定,这对学生自信心的增强会起到有很大的效果。课后,教师可多与学生交流。比如,谈谈学习英语尤其是旅游英语的心得、聊聊其他的话题,这些都能拉近师生距离、增进师生情感,帮助学生轻松地面对教师,进而轻松地面对教师所传授的旅游英语知识和相关口语操练任务。
2.创设模拟的语言环境,使课堂教学更真实化
Richards 和Rodgers(1986)曾提出,只有让学生使用对他们有意义的语言去完成真实交流的语用任务,才能促进其语言的学习。因此,在旅游英语口语教学中,教师也要为学生创造真实(authentic)语言环境,帮助学生把旅游英语口语带到工作情景中,使该课程的教学更加真实化。教师可以利用多媒体提供背景画面,或利用桌、椅、杯子、书等教室里一切实际存在的物品,为学生创造一个模拟宾馆、模拟餐厅、模拟景点,模拟机场等情境,使学生犹如身临其境。
同时,在这种创设的真实的语言环境中,引导学生扮演各种角色,如游客、酒店员工、导游、旅行社员工等。角色表演可活跃课堂气氛,增加学生参与的互动性,增强文化差异的洞察力。学生通过角色扮演尽情发挥他们的想象力,运用所学的词汇、句型进行练习,有利于口语的提高。在课堂操练(尤其是对话操练)时,教师应要求学生在使用信息时尽可能真实化。例如,在操练演绎前台英语方面的预定房间对话情景时,作为“客人”的学生应用自己的真实姓名,而作为“服务员”的学生所提供的相关信息应符合相关酒店或宾馆的实际。
3.开展形式多样的课堂教学活动,激发学生的学习热情
形式多样的教学活动的设置,会激发学生的好奇心及乐于开口说英语的学习热情。笔者在教学中采用以下的几种教学活动取得了很好的教学效果。
(1)Self presentation.课前5 分钟的duty report 给每个学生提供了自我展示的机会。每学期初,安排学生每天轮流做5 分钟的主题演讲。学生们可以选择任何他们喜欢的话题,故事、音乐、体育、奥运、服装、英美习俗和新闻等,此外,还要结合自己的主题给同学们抛出讨论的话题。大家可以围绕该话题展开讨论,从而给出自己的见解。该环节可以锻炼学生公开演讲能力、表达自己观点的能力,这对旅游专业学生来讲非常重要,另一方面,通过该环节授课教师可以对每个学生的口语水平、表达能力、语法基础有一个直观的了解。

三、课程教学的基本要求
本课程的教学环节包括:课堂讲授、课外练习、小组表演。通过本课程各个教学环节的教学,重点培养学生的英语口语方面的能力。
(一)课堂讲授
主要教学方法:
采用先听后说的复述式教学方法,以利于调动学生的课堂气氛和学习的主观能动性。
原则性教学建议:
1.多播放教学录像片并且就录像多开展讨论;
2.加强口语能力的培养;
3.鼓励学生尽可能课内外多讲。
(三)考试环节
学生成绩评定:平时成绩20%+期末考试80%。
平时成绩包括:出勤率、课堂参与性、小组表演等。
期末考试主要采用考察形式,题型主要分为:看图编故事、观点性论述、补全故事情节、复述故事等。
