The world has so many lessons to teach you.I consider the world, this Earth, to be like a school and our life the classrooms. And sometimes here in this Planet Earth school the lessons often come dressed up as detours or roadblocks. And sometimes as full-blown crises. And the secret I've learned to getting ahead is being open to the lessons, lessons from the grandest university of all, that is, the universe itself. It's being able to walk through life eager and open to self-improvement and that which is going to best help you evolve, because that's really why we're here, to evolve as human beings. To grow into more of ourselves, always moving to the next level of understanding, the next level of compassion and growth.

And beyond that, on behalf of your mother and sisters, I pledge that we, your blood family, will do all we can to continue the imaginative way in which you were steering these two exceptional young men so that their souls are not simply immersed by duty and tradition but can sing openly as you planned.
Walk clean around the hill
NOW THAT I can look back across the years from the so-called vantage point of experience in two World Wars, travel throughout a large part of the world, and contact with many of the outstanding personalities of our time,it gives me a great deal of real reassurance each day to know that way down deep I learned some fundamental values when I was a boy in a small town in Nebraska.I have found one thing to be so very trueit has been a way of life for me.I mean not only loyalty to my friends and family, but to the honest values on which our country was founded. And to me, this guidepost of loyalty of necessity means loyalty to one's own self. When I was growing up, I rebelled against so many things, and fought against so many of the basic ideas of lifewhether I am in London, Paris, Rome,Cairo,Now York,Hollwood or Wahoo,Nebraska-are always the same.I am grateful for those old-fashioned virtues that I learned as a boy in Nebraska. And I hope I will have enough humility always to be thankful I was born in a country that give me this chance at life.

When Love Beckons You
When love beckons to you, follow him, though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden. For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you.Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, so shall he descend to our roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth. But if, in your fear, you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor, into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.Love gives naught but it self and takes naught but from itself.Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and must have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.To know the pain of too much tenderness.To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a payer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
被自己对爱理解所伤害;
在黎明带着轻快心醒来并感谢又一个有家日子;
在黄昏怀着感恩之心回家;

Be Happy!
“The days that make us happy make us wise.”----John Masefield
when I first read this line by England’s Poet Laureate, it startled me.What did Masefield mean? Without thinking about it much, I had always assumed that the opposite was true. But his sober assurance was arresting.I could not forget it.Finally, I seemed to grasp his meaning and realized that here was a profound observation. The wisdom that happiness makes possible lies in clear perception, not fogged by anxiety nor dimmed by despair and boredom, and without the blind spots caused by fear.Active happiness---not mere satisfaction or contentment---often comes suddenly, like an April shower or the unfolding of a bud. Then you discover what kind of wisdom has accompanied it.The grass is greener;bird songs are sweeter;the shortcomings of your friends are more understandable and more forgivable.Happiness is like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your spiritual vision.Nor are the insights of happiness limited to what is near around you.Unhappy, with your thoughts turned in upon your emotional woes, your vision is cut short as though by a wall.Happy, the wall crumbles. The long vista is there for the seeing. The ground at your feet, the world about you----people, thoughts, emotions, pressures---are now fitted into the larger scene.Everything assumes a fairer proportion. And here is the beginning of wisdom.“快乐日子使人睿智。”

The Goodness of Life
Though there is much to be concerned about, there is far, far more for which to be thankful.Though life’s goodness can at times be overshadowed, it is never outweighed. For every single act that is senselessly destructive, there are thousands more small, quiet acts of love, kindness and compassion. For every person who seeks to hurt, there are many, many more who devote their lives to helping and to healing. There is goodness to life that cannot be denied. In the most magnificent vistas and in the smallest details, look closely, for that goodness always comes shining through. There si no limit to the goodness of life.It grows more abundant with each new encounter. The more you experience and appreciate the goodness of life, the more there is to be lived.Even when the cold winds blow and the world seems to be cov ered in foggy shadows, the goodness of life lives on.Open your eyes, open your heart, and you will see that goodness is everywhere.Though the goodness of life seems at times to suffer setbacks, it always endures. For in the darkest moment it becomes vividly clear that life is a priceless treasure. And so the goodness of life is made even stronger by the very things that would oppose it.Time and time again when you feared it was gone forever you found that the goodness of life was really only a moment away.Around the next corner, inside every moment, the goodness of life is there to surprise and delight you.Take a moment to let the goodness of life touch your spirit and calm your thoughts. Then, share your good fortune with another. For the goodness of life grows more and more magnificent each time it is given away.Though the problems constantly scream for attention and the conflicts appear to rage ever stronger, the goodness of life grows stronger still, quietly, peacefully, with more purpose and meaning than ever before.

On the new year's day, I met a long lost sister in school near school.I met my sister in student work. She gave me a lot of advice and help when I first entered school, and I have always been grateful to her.The accounting profession of Xue Jie Xue, graduated this year.If she hadn't seen me greeting me first, two of me must have missed it.I was still like that for a year, so she could recognize me at a glance. But the school sister changed greatly, the most obvious is to cut off the University for four years of long hair, and changed a well-trained hair and short hair. The old spectacles were not worn, but they did not know to wear stealth or to do the operation...Two of us found a coffee shop and chatted, and I laughed at my sister's road to the female elite in the workplace.Do not know why, though far more beautiful and more obvious temperament, more life experience, but I felt that her face was a weariness.Through the window of the coffee shop, the school sister saw that the restaurant on the opposite side of the Yellow braised chicken was closed in the daytime. It was obviously surprised.I explained, “that's not.The boss has been transferring the shop recently, and the other day he was looking at it with the intent.” My sister's expression is somewhat sentimental: “I like the braised chicken of this family most of the time, almost once a week, now...”
I don't know how to say, people will always be nostalgic at the appropriate time, so I hope that after many years of time now, has always maintained the original appearance, keep engraved in my heart. But when time goes on, a lot of things will change.Even this change will make a long silent runner feel very sad.I know that she is now an intern in an accounting firm, and ask her whether she can work well, whether she is ready to stay there, whether she works very hard every day and whether she is being bullied by others. In a word, I asked myself for the shallow cognition of my workplace. She laughed at me: “you suddenly ask so much, let me answer which good. How to say, a good job, not too much competition, because a firm began to tell us a few new interns no idea, so we just recently, practice and practice. After all, the office is quite famous in the industry. After the end of the internship, it has enriched the work experience and is quite helpful for us.We drank coffee and then said: ”you know what is the most let me out of the office, get to work at half past eight every morning, take charge of the predecessors to me, told me to come at ten does not matter, anyway, will not stay here, but you know I have very high standards for myself will certainly go on time. Therefore, I am still from the firm near relatively cheap rented house.Interns do not pay, working meals to pay their own money, so I am now living very hard to learn sister. The school sister intentionally made a bitter tone to ease the atmosphere, but I really could realize that she was not easy.Getting up early every day, but no longer can be as neat and neat as before, dressing up, eating roadside stalls, crowded buses, and busy day by day, are all consuming the energy of this tiny girl.I think that people who have experienced these things have a grumbling in their heart, and the resentment is not a matter of one person, but in the deepest heart. But from meeting to separating, my sister didn't complain to me about the difficulty of life and the danger of society. She taught me to enjoy the moment just in time in university must also make adequate preparations for the day after.Walking through the braised chicken restaurant on foot, the school sister looked at the heavy shackles on the glass door, reached out and touched it, and sighed. When I looked down, my sister cried, and I followed her eyes, and there was a white unknown flower on the fracture of the cement floor tile in front of the glass door. This discovery let the school sister suddenly become full of vitality, it is not necessary to pull me in front of a small shop self portraits, saying that it is to leave a memorial...There is a question that many netizens think about: how do you refute the reality that this society is like this? The most popular reply is: what you are and what your world is like.In my opinion, this reply is not chicken soup at all.It is this, you want to make the world a better place, only to make yourself better. This is good, a lot of the time, people can feel the danger and misery, confusion and yibingding mouth uncertain, and you can see a rise in front of flowers everywhere, waiting for you.
The time is short, but still passed away;although the spring and Autumn period is long, it is also in a hurry. In this long and short time, we should make full use of it, not to get lost in it.Life is a smoke-free war that life has launched for us.However, the battlefield is a thick white mist, there is no smoke, but had a Olga fog, there is no warriors, but empty lonely and lonely. There is no direction, no marks, no commanders, some only their own perseverance, and have their own strength. At that time, when I was just studying, I had no idea, I was very confused about my future life, I couldn't speak my favorite things and I couldn't talk about the job I wanted. The family asked, my life seemed to be in the mist, fog is overlapped around the side, no direction, no roads, no light, there is only a hazy mist, just bleak wind, just silent lonely and helpless, but more confused.Such a life, no one can bring me light, and no one can break the fog for me to illuminate the direction. If I want to be lost, I must rely on myself to rush out of the fog and rush to the top of life.Otherwise, it will always be immersed in the fog and can't escape.I wandered for a long time in this hazy fog, and I had been confused for a few years, and I could not give up, but I had no direction.I tried hard to find out all kinds of ideals to rush out of the fog, but life had brought me a lot of jokes and was broken by reality.I have hoped countless times in the night sky above my forehead to have a blinking star to light up for me, and a shining star can break it.How I wish I could have a goal, a yearning to rush out of the fog and change my life, but I was surrounded by a cruel reality.Don't let confusion lose myself. It's my firm belief that I can do it without knowing it.With it, I saw the light outside the fog.In the days to come, although my words are not perfect, but I see the hope, they will go for one time.People find their ideal in the confusion, the real number is not easy.Wish us to be strong on the road of our own life, not to be lost and lost in the direction of self.
1.Thrift
Thrift is the foundation of all greatness. It is applied not only to money matters, but to everything else in life—the wise use of one's time, ability, and energy. In short, thrift is the scientific management of one's money, of one's time, of one's affairs, and of one's self.Thrift is the best word for us.It makes fortune. It uplifts character. It improves the quality of the individual. The exercise of thrift has a very healthful reaction upon all the other faculties. The habit of thrift denotes self-control.It is a proof that a man is not a hopeless victim of his weakness. It is a proof that he is the master of himself as well as of his finances.Thrift is an educator.A thrifty man thinks and plans. He has a program. He has a certain amount of independence. If you have cultivated thrift, it means that you have the ability to control your desires and that you are developing some of the grandest human qualities—self-reliance, independence, prudence, and foresight. We know that all great nations are founded on thrift. The ancient Roman Empire degenerated and came to an end when it ceased to be thrifty.Yet thrift does not require superior courage. It needs no fervent resolution, but only a little patient self-denial.And BEGIN is its device!

Remember, my son, you have to work.Whether you handle a pick or a pen, a wheel-barrow or a set of books, digging ditches or editing a paper, ringing an
auction bell or writing funny things, you must work.If you look around you will see the men who are the most able to live the rest of their days without work are the men who work the hardest.Don't be afraid of killing yourself with overwork. It is beyond your power to do that on the sunny side of thirty. They die sometimes, but it is because they quit work at six in the evening, and do not go home until two in the morning. It’s the interval that kills, my son.The work gives you an appetite for your meals;it lends solidity to your slumbers, it gives you a perfect and grateful appreciation of a holiday. There are young men who do not work, but the world is not proud of them.It does not know their names, even it simply speaks of them as “old So-and-So’s boy”.Nobody likes them;the great, busy world doesn’t know that they are there. So find out what you want to be and do, and take off your coat and make a dust in the world. The busier you are, the less harm you will be apt to get into, the sweeter will be your sleep, the brighter and happier your holidays, and the better satisfied will the world be with you.[注释]

3.Books(选择任意两段背诵)
A man may usually be known by the books he reads, as well as by the company
for there is a companionship of books as well as of men;and one should always live in the best company, whether it be of books or of men.A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness;amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting and consoling us in age.Men often discover their affinity to each other by the mutual love they have for a book—just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is an old proverb, “Love me, love my dog.” But there is more wisdom in this: “Love me, love my book.” The book is a truer and higher bond of union.Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them.A good book is often the best urn of a life, enshrining the best thoughts of which that life was capable;for the world of a man's life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words and golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, become our abiding companions and comforters.“They are never alone,” said Sir Philip Sidney, “that are accompanied by noble thoughts.” The good and true thought may in time of temptation be as an angel of mercy purifying and guarding the soul.It also enshrines the germs of action, for good words almost invariably inspire to good works.company: 陪伴 adversity: 不幸, 逆境
console : vt.

4.Jane Eyre
‘I tell you I must go!’ I retorted, roused to something like passion.‘Do you think I can stay to become nothing to you? Do you think I am an automaton?I have as much soul as you,it is my spirit that addresses your spirit;just as if both had passed through the grave, and we stood at God's feet, equal, ecstasy so great that I would often have sacrificed all the rest of life for a few hours of this joy.I have sought it, next, because it relieves loneliness--that terrible loneliness in which one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world into the cold
unfathomable lifeless abyss.I have sought it finally, because in the union of love I have seen, in a mystic miniature, the prefiguring vision of the heaven that saints and poets have imagined. This is what I sought, and though it might seem too good for human life, this is what--at last--I have found. With equal passion I have sought knowledge.I have wished to understand the hearts of men.I have wished to know why the stars shine. And I have tried to apprehend the Pythagorean power by which number holds sway above the flux.A little of this, but not much, I have achieved.Love and knowledge, so far as they were possible, led upward toward the heavens. But always pity brought me back to earth.Echoes of cries of pain reverberate in my heart.Children in famine, victims tortured by oppressors, helpless old people a burden to their sons, and the whole world of loneliness, poverty, and pain make a mockery of what human life should be.I long to alleviate this evil, but I cannot, and I too suffer. This has been my life.I have found it worth living, and would gladly live it again if the chance were offered me.
9.The Four Freedoms
In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression―everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way―everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want―which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peace time life for its inhabitants―everywhere in the world. The forth is freedom from fear which, translated into world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor--anywhere in the world.
10.Youth
by Samuel Ullman(选择任意两段背诵)
Youth is not just a stage of life;it is a state of mind.It is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees;it is a matter of the will, a quality of imagination, a vigor of the emotions. It is the freshness of the deep spring of life.Youth means the predominance of courage over timidity, of adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty.Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair---these bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust.Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human being's heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement of the stars and the star like things, the undoubted challenge of events, the unfailing childlike appetite for what-next and the joy of the game of living. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt, as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear, as young as your hope, as old as your despair.
11.Of Studies
by Francis Bacon Studies serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability.Their chief use for delight,is in privateness and retiring;for ornament, is in discourse;and for ability, is in the judgment and disposition of business.// For expert men can execute, and perhaps judge of particulars, one by one;but the general counsels, and the plots and marshalling of affairs, come best from those that are learned.//To spend too much time in studies is sloth;to use them too much for ornament, is affectation;to make judgment wholly by their rules, is the humor of a scholar.// They perfect
nature, and are perfected by experience: for natural abilities are like natural plants, that need pruning by study;and studies themselves do give forth directions too much at large, except they be bounded in by experience.
12.The Joy of Life
Wise men of ancient times and successful men of today have told us that labor is sweet. Its reward is not material gain but what one becomes by it.Work does much more for us than just giving us a living. The real joys of life come from doing something and doing it well. All of us hope for success, but it is illusive and hard to keep.It nearly always slips away from one like sand through the fingers, like water through a leaky pail, unless it is held tight by hard work, day by day, night by night, year in year out.Everyone who fears failure should work harder and harder with a faithful heart as long as he lasts.13.True Nobility
by Ernest Hemingway
(选取任意两段背诵)In a calm sea every man is a pilot. But all sunshine without shade, all pleasure without pain, is not life at all.Take the lot of the happiest----it is a tangled yarn.Bereavements and blessings, one following another, make us sad and blessed by turns.Even death itself makes life more loving.Men come closest to their true selves in the sober moments of life, under the shadows of sorrow and loss.In the affairs of life or of business, it is not intellect that tells so much as character, not brains so much as heart, not genius so much as self-control, patience, and discipline, regulated by judgment.I have always believed that the man who has begun to live more seriously within begins to live more simply without. In an age of extravagance and waste, I wish I could show to the world how few the real wants of humanity are.To regret one's errors to the point of not repeating them is true repentance. There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.
14.I have a dream(节选,选取任意三小段背诵)
I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident;that all men are created equal.”
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.I have a dream today.I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.
15.City
The city as a center where ,any day in any year, there may be a fresh encounter with a new talents, a keen mind or a gifted specialist---this is essential to the life of a country. To play this role in our lives a city must have a soul---a university, a great art or music school, a cathedral or a great mosque or temple, a great laboratory or scientific center, as well as the libraries and museums and galleries that bring past and present together, a city must be a place where groups of women and men are seeking and developing the highest things they know.By Margaret Mead: World Enough 城市
1、Many people believe that they will be happy once they arrive at some specific goal they set for themselves. However, more often than not, once you arrive “ there” you will still feel dissatisfied, and move your “ there” vision to yet another point in the future.By always chasing after another “there,” you are never really appreciating what you already have right “here.” It is important for human beings to keep soberminded about the age-old drive to look beyond the place where you now stand. On one hand, your life is enhanced by your dreams and aspirations. On the other hand, these drives can pull you farther and farther from your enjoyment of your life right now.By learning the lessons of gratitude and abundance, you can bring yourself closer to fulfilling the challenge of living in the present.
2、Alan and Linda always dreamed of living “the good life.” Both from poor working-class families, they married young and set out to fulfill their mutual goal of becoming wealthy. They both worked very hard for years, amassing a small fortune, so they could move from their two-bedroom home to a palatial seven-bedroom home in the most upscale neighborhood. They focused their energies on accumulating all the things they believed signified abundance: membership in the local exclusive country club, luxury cars, designer clothing, and high-class society friends. No matter how much they accumulated, however, it never seemed to be enough. They were unable to erase the deep fear of scarcity both had acquired in childhood. They needed to learn the lesson of abundance. Then the stock market crashed in 1987, and Alan and Linda lost a considerable amount of money.A bizarre but costly lawsuit depleted another huge portion of their savings. One thing led to another, and they found themselves in a financial disaster.Assets needed to be sold, and eventually they lost the country club membership, the cars, and the house. It took several years and much hard work for Alan and Linda to land on their feet, and though they now live a life far from extravagant, they have taken stock of their lives and feel quite blessed.Only now, as they assess what they have left--a solid, loving marriage, their health, a dependable income, and good friends--do they realize that true abundance comes not from amassing, but rather from appreciating.
3、Once learning stops, vegetation sets in.It is a common fallacy to regard school as the only workshop for the acquisition of knowledge. On the contrary, learning should be a never-ending process, from the cradle to the grave. With the world ever changing so fast, the cease from learning for just a few days will make a person lag behind. What's worse, the animalistic instinct dormant deep in our subconsciousness will come to life, weakening our will to pursue our noble ideal, sapping our determination to sweep away obstacles to our success and strangling our desire for the refinement of our character.Lack of learning will inevitably lead to the stagnation of the mind, or even worse, its fossilization, Therefore, to stay mentally young, we have to take learning as a lifelong career.
4、A MODEL STUDENT
Do you mind being called a bad student? Of course not.So far as I know, everybody intends to be(become)a model student. However, to be a model student is by no means an easy thing.First, he must do his best to obtain knowledge.A man without sufficient knowledge will not succeed.Secondly, he must remember to improve his health.Only a strong man can do great tasks.Thirdly, he should receive moral education. If his conduct is not good, no one will consider making friends with him.

As is well known, books teach us to learn life, truth, science and many other useful things. They increase our knowledge, broaden our minds and strengthen our character. In other words, they are our good teachers and wise friends. This is the reason why our parents always encourage us to read more books.Reading is a good thing, but we must pay great attention to the choice of books. It is true that we can derive benefits from good books. However, bad books will do us more harm than good.
7、THE VALUE OF TIME 爱惜时光
An English proverb says that time is money.I consider it(this)wrong. Why? Because we all know that we can earn money be work but can not in any way get back time(in anyway). For this reason, we may(can)say that time is more valuable than money. Many people do not know the value of time. It(this)is indeed a great pity.We must bear(keep)in mind that wasting time is equal to wasting your life.

10、Not long after an old Chinese woman came back to China from her visit to her daughter in the States, she went to a city bank to deposit the US dollars her daughter gave her.At the bank counter, the clerk checked each note carefully to see if the money was real.It made the old lady out of patience. At last she could not hold any more, uttering.“Trust me, Sir, and trust the money. They are real US dollars. They are directly from America.”
11、She kindled a third match.Again shot up the flame; and now she was sitting under a most beautiful Christmas tree ,far larger, and far more prettily decked out, than the one she had seen last Christmas eve through the glass doors of the rich merchant's house.Hundreds of wax-tapers lighted up the green branches, and tiny painted figures, such as she had seen in the shop-windows, looked down from the tree upon her.The child stretched out her hands towards them in delight, and in that moment the lights of the match warm quenched; still, however, the Christmas candles burned higher and higher, she beheld them beaming like stars in heaven; one of them fell, the lights streaming behind it like a long, fiery tail.‚Now some one is dying,‛ said the little girl, softly, for she had been told by her old grandmother, the only person who had ever been kind to her, and who was now dead that whenever a star falls an immortal spirit returns to the God who gave it.She struck yet another match against the wall; it flamed up, and surrounded by its light, appeared before her that same dear grandmother, gentle and loving as always, but bright and happy as she had never looked during her lifetime.
