As far as I’m concerned, the benefits of ___________(主题)greatly outweigh its drawbacks. We should make better use of ____________(主题)and bypass its negative effects。

Teachers are grateful, but know it may be years before the district is solvent(有综合能力的).They feel really good about the parent support, but they realize it’s impossible for then to solve this problem. The 22,000-student district discovered the shortage last month.―It’s extraordinary.Nobody would have imagined something happening like this at this level,‖ said State Treasurer Mike Coffman.Coffman and district officials last week agreed on a state emergency plan freeing yp a $9.8 million loan that enabled the payroll(工资单)to be met for 2,700 teachers and staff in time for the holidays.District officials also took $1.7 million from student-activity accounts its 38 schools. At Coffman’s request, the District Attorney has begun investigating the district’s finances.Coffman says he wants to know whether district officials hid the budget shortage until after the November election, when voters approved a $212 million bond issue for schools. In Frederick, students’ parents are buying classroom supplies and offering to pay for groceries and utilities to keep first-year teachers and principals in their jobs. Some $36,000 has been raised in donations from Safeway.A Chevrolet dealership donated $10,000 and forgave the district’s $10,750 bill for renting the driver educating cars.IBM contributed 4,500 packs of paper.“We employ thousands of people in this community,‖ said Mitch Carson, a hospital chief executive, who helped raise funds.―We have children in the school, and we see how they could be affected.‖

ware of the complexities of saying sorry.A three-year-old might need help in understanding that other children feel pain just as he does, and that hitting a playmate over the head with a heavy toy requires an apology.A six-year-old might need reminding that spoiling other children’s expectations can require an apology.A 12-year-old might need to be shown that raiding the biscuit tin without asking permission is acceptable, but that borrowing a parent’s clothes without permission is not.36.If a mother adds ―but‖ to an apology, ________.A)she doesn’t feel that she should have apologized B)she does not realize that the child has been hurt C)the child may find the apology easier to accept D)the child may feel that he owes her an apology 37.According to the author, saying ―I’m sorry you’re upset‖ most probably means ―________‖.A)You have good reason to get upset B)I’m aware you’re upset, but I’m not to blame C)I apologize for hurting your feelings D)I’m at fault for making you upset
38.It is not advisable to use the general, all-covering apology because ________.A)it gets one into the habit of making empty promises B)it may make the other person feel guilty C)it is vague and ineffective D)it is hurtful and insulting 39.We learn from the last paragraph that in teaching children to say sorry ________.A)the complexities involved should be ignored B)their ages should be taken into account C)parents need to set them a good example D)parents should be patient and tolerant 40.It can be inferred from the passage that apologizing properly is ________.A)a social issue calling for immediate attention B)not necessary among family members C)a sign of social progress D)not as simple as it seems Part III Vocabulary(20 minutes)41.Some people believe that since oil is scarce, the ________ of the motor industry is uncertain.A)terminal B)benefit C)fate D)estimate 42.To speed up the ________ of letters, the Post Office introduced automatic sorting.A)treatment B)delivery C)transmission D)departure 43.These overseas students show great ________ for learning a new language.A)enthusiasm

Should the University Campus Be Open to tourism? Nowadays, many famous university campuses have become one of the popular tourist attraction. It has been shown on TV and on the radio that every year thousands and thousands of middle school students visit Tsing Hua University and Peking University and other famous universities in China. In the place far away from the capital city, the local students also visit the universities famous in their own province. So far as the present situation is concerned, is it a good or bad thing to open the university campus for tourists? Different people have different opinions. On one hand, some people argued that it is a good thing for the students to visit the famous university campus in that it can enable the middle students to get more information about the university and they can have enough time and opportunity to prepare themselves with the chance to get into the university. On the other hand, some people hold a negative view about this phenomenon. In their opinion, the public tourism will have negative effect on the universities because it will not only do harm to the environment but also to the intellectual atmosphere. In my opinion, the tourism to the universities is not a good thing. The campus is mainly a place for
study. With the increasing tourism on the campus, it will ruin the spiritual atmosphere in this learning field.

Passage one A new study reports the common drug aspirin greatly reduces life threatening problems after an operation to replace blocked blood vessels to the heart.More than 800,000 people around the world have this heart surgery each year. The doctors who carried out the study say giving aspirin to patients soon after the operation could save thousands of lives.People usually take aspirin to control pain and reduce high body temperature.Doctors also advise some people to take aspirin to help prevent heart attacks.About 10-15 percent of these heart operations end in death or damage to the heart or other organs. The new study shows that even a small amount of aspirin reduced such threats. The doctors said the chance of death for patients who took aspirin would fall by 67%.They claimed this was true if the aspirin was given within 48 hours of the operation. The doctors believe aspirin helps heart surgery patients because it can prevent blood from thickening and blood vessels from being blocked. However, the doctors warned that people who have stomach bleeding or other bad reactions from aspirin should not take it after heart surgery.Questions 11 to 13 are based on the passage you have just heard.11.What is the finding of the new study of aspirin? 12.In what way can aspirin help heart surgery patients according to the doctors? 13.What warning did the doctors give about the use of aspirin? Passage Two Were you the first or the last child in you family? Or were you a middle or an only child? Some people think it matters where you were born in you family. But there are different ideas about what birth order means. Some people say that oldest children are smart and strong-willed.They are very likely to be successful. The reason for this is simple.Parents have a lot of time for their first child;they give him or her a lot of attention. So this child is very likely to do well.An only child will succeed for the same reason. What happens to the other children in the family? Middle children don’t get so much attention, so they don’t feel that important. If a family has many children, the middle one sometimes gets lost in the crowd. The youngest child, though, often gets special treatment. He or she is the baby.Often this child grows up to be funny and charming.Do you believe these ideas of birth order too? A recent study saw things quite differently. The study found that first children believed in family rules. They didn’t take many chances in their lives. They usually followed orders.Rules didn’t mean as much to later children in the family. They went out and followed their own ideas. They took chances and they often did better in life.Questions 14 to 16 are based on the passage you have just heard.14.According to common belief, in what way are the first child and the only child alike? 15.What do people usually say about middle children? 16.What do we learn about later children in a family from a recent study of birth order? Passage Three When my interest shifted from space to the sea, I never expected it would cause such confusion among my friends, yet I can understand their feelings. As I have been writing and talking about space flight for the best part of 20 years, a sudden switch of interest to the depth of the sea doer seem peculiar. To explain, I’d like to share my reasons behind this unusual change of mind. The first excuse I give is an economic one.Underwater exploration is so much cheaper than space flight. The first round-trip ticket to the moon is going to cost at least 10 billion dollars if you include research and development.By the end of this century, the cost will be down to a few
million. On the other hand, the diving suit and a set of basic tools needed for skin-diving can be bought for 20 dollars. My second argument is more philosophical. The ocean, surprisingly enough, has many things in common with space. In their different ways, both sea and space are equally hostile. If we wish to survive in either for any length of time, we need to have mechanical aids. The diving suit helped the design of the space suit. The feelings and the emotions of a man beneath the sea will be much like those of a man beyond the atmosphere.Questions 17 to 20 are based on the passage you have just heard.17.How did the speaker’s friends respond to his change of interest?
18.What is one of the reasons for the speaker to switch his interest to underwater exploration? 19.In what way does the speaker think diving is similar to space travel? 20.What is the speaker’s purpose in giving this talk?

本文的主旨(whether well-noted campus should be opened to tourists探讨名校校园可否作为旅游景点开放)?

From many a pamphlet of travel agencies, campus of famous universities has been listed among tourist attraction.)
Discuss the topic from two aspects, including approval and opposition
With accumulated cultural atmosphere & high value of tourism, campus ought to be opened to travelers, which may brings negative impacts to the serene academic order of students.)
Put forward personal suggestions, reconciling both opinions
Well-known campus can be opened during summer & winter vacations, which caters to both sides.)
Nowadays a large number of campuses of well-known universities have been listed as tourist spots by many a travel agency, which attracts travelers home and abroad. However, there is no consensus among most people. Some hold the idea that time-honored universities with great prestige have definitely accumulated incredible culture and knowledge deposit and they can offer tourists an impressive experience or even help to realize people’s dreams to be enrolled into them.Whereas, others voice divergent opinion that well-noted colleges can not be opened to tourists, who will inevitably disturb the serene atmosphere for students more or less.As far as I am concerned, those opinions are actually reconcilable. As travelers want to pay a visit to certain institutions, we can schedule the tours during the interval of winter and summer vacations, which can both cater to travelers’ interest and maintain the academic tranquility for underclassmen.

How Should Parents Help Children to Be Independent?
It is nothing unusual to find overprotective parents who help their children in all aspects of life. The question is, are they sure their heart loaded with love will bring good to their children? Let’s look at the real situation of the second-rich generation. Some of them, rather than becoming the second-strong generation, becomes the defeated generation which is notorious for their life focused on consumption rather than creation.Because of the changes of education in history, most Chinese parents, though successfully accumulate wealth, don’t know much about the right value they should pass on to the new generation. They have tried all that they can to be good parents while neglecting the core value they should address, which is INDEPENDENCE.(2)2010年12月大学英语四级考试作文范文范文
How should parents help children to be independent?
They should give their children the freedom to make choices for themselves.Children cannot be happy if they don’t have control over their life, which in daily life, means they make choices for themselves, like, what to eat, what to wear, what career to do, what kind of spouse they are going to marry. Some parents may be open-minded enough to let their children to make these tiny decisions about food and clothes, but when it comes to the big ones, they are too anxious to let their children have a try. They used to be young and they made mistakes and now it is their sons and daughters’ turn to be young—the deep love and care is so intense that it becomes even suffocating--they are reluctant to give their children opportunities to start to be responsible for their own lives.2011年6月英语四级作文题目

Nowadays with the ever rapid development and increasing popularity of the information technology , shopping on the internet has been a fashion especially among the youngsters.Online shopping has made our daily life more convenient and comfortable. For example , shopping on the internet can save students a great deal of time on the way between home and store, so they would be able to concentrate more time and energy on their academic work. The internet has shorten the distance between manufacturers and consumers and thus we can even buy goods in other countries. On the other hand , lack of the face to face deal makes online shopping less reliable and trustworthy. What’ s more the delivery will increase the risk of items’ damage. In my opinion, shopping on the internet is a irreversible trend.More and more people will be accustomed to it.It will be much more popular in the near future. And at the same time we should take some measures to make it perfect.
Nowadays, with the rapid development of information technology, online shopping has gained great popularity among more and more web users. For example, it is fashionable for youngsters to purchase daily essentials, such as books, clothes, electrical equipment, on some famous website, like Taobao, EBay and Alibaba.Undoubtedly speaking, online shopping has many advantages.Firstly, compared with traditional shopping, it’s very convenient. What you need to do is just clicking your mouse and waiting instead of going out by foot or driving.Secondly, more choices than real store are another attraction to customers. However, in spite of convenience and more choices of online shopping, we cannot turn a blind eye to its disadvantages.Obviously, quality problem is its first disadvantage. It’s common that articles aren’t so good just as they are described online that customers always buy fake commodities. In addition, it’s troublesome and annoying for many customers to make a change when they are not satisfied with what they bought online. As a college student, I like online shopping but I expected that effective measures should be taken to make it better。Specifically speaking, government should work out strict regulations and rules to prevent unfaithful and unlawful activities of online shop owners.Only by this way can online shopping become really safe and attract an increasing number of customers.2011年12月英语四级作文题目
For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will by commenting on the humorous saying, “Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world.I've done it hundreds of times.” You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.范文
Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will
Sometimes, in our daily life, the easiest thing might be the most difficult thing, as in the case of some people trying to quit smoking for hundreds of times and still making endless efforts without any hope of success. The reason for their failure is their lack of a strong will。
In our modern world, nothing is simple and straightforward.Something might appear deceptively easy at first, but as we proceed on, we will find that it is actually extremely difficult. Therefore, we must take whatever we do seriously and be mentally prepared to make our utmost exertions. When we encounter obstacles and setbacks, we must apply our strong willpower and persevere until we finally succeed。
For us university students, in our academic studies or in our daily life on campus, we might not be faced with insurmountable challenges. But we need to get prepared, right now, to take things seriously, try to cultivate our strong will, and be ready to pursue our goals through persistence and indefatigable will.I believe it’s the only way we can achieve our success。
Nothing Succeeds Without a Strong Will
Success depends on many factors, both physical and spiritual. In my opinion, mental factors like a strong will are far more decisive in enabling us to achieve success. For example, despite our repeated efforts to quit smoking, our lack of a strong will would still cause us to end up in failure。
In any of our undertakings, we should first set a goal. Some goals are highly challenging.Without a strong will, people would give up in the middle and they fail to achieve their goals. For those people who do succeed, they succeed simply because they have that mental stamina which enables them to challenge even the most insurmountable difficulties。
We often say that ‘Impossible is Nothing’.To make the impossible possible, we must exercise our perseverance and strong willpower.Or, as an English proverb goes, ‘If there is a will, there is a way.’ Our world is becoming increasingly competitive and only by making strong-willed efforts can we maximize our full potential and gain competitive edges, and prevail over all obstacles that lie in our way to success。

On Excessive Packaging
In recent years, with the economy growing, all kinds of goods are flowing into our life. The packaging of goods becomes more and more attracting our eyes. However, the problem of excessive packaging has aroused people’s wide concern. This phenomenon exists for a number of reasons. For one thing, the business has seen through the mind of most consumers who are face-saving, for they thought that the more beautiful the packaging of goods is, the best people like. For another thing, excessive packaging can make the majority of merchants get high profit for the cheap commodity by improving price.Perhaps the primary reason lies that the form far outweighs the content. In my opinion, it is more advisable to focus on the quality of goods than to decorate its appearance. So, it is urgent that immediate measures should be taken to stop the situation.Only in this way can we reduce unnecessary waste and have a rational and pure shopping condition, making our money worthwhile.2012年12月英语四级作文题目

美国劳工部(united states department of labor)官网
Bureau of labor statistics
Education pays
Education Pays, published every three years, presents detailed evidence of the private and public benefits of higher education. It also sheds light on the distribution of these benefits by examining both the increases and the persistent disparities in college participation and completion. In the three years between the publication of Education Pays 2007 and Education Pays 2010, median earnings for four-year college graduates increased more rapidly than those of high school graduates and the gap between the unemployment rates of the two groups grew.In addition to earnings comparisons, the report documents differences in lifestyles, health, and other outcomes for people with and without college education.Differences in enrollment and completion patterns across demographic groups highlight the reality that gaps in educational attainment are explained by a combination of money and other factors.
From the bar chart given above, we can observe that it reflects the statistics of income among people of different educational background. Those who possess a doctoral degree earn 1,551dollars median weekly, ranking first among people of other education level. The median weekly earnings of people with associate degree and below can not reach the average of 797 dollars, ranking from 768 dollars to 451 dollars. As for the unemployment rate, 2.5 % of people with doctoral degree will suffer form unemployment. However, the unemployment rate of people with some college, no degree and lower degree surpass the mean value of7.6%, ranking from 8.7% to 14.1%.The bar chart of Education Pays reveals a phenomenon that there exits some difference in incomes and unemployment rate among people with different educational level.Quite a few reasons can account for this phenomenon: for one thing, with the advancement of technology and the adjustment of industrial structure, quite a few high-tech industries emerge overnight, which leads to a soar demand of workforces with high educational degree, thus, it is natural that graduates with bachelor’ and higher degree get a high pay-packet and enjoy a stable job.Additionally, those with educational background under associate degree are easily dismissed and paid by low salary. They can be replaced any time due to the fact that their jobs are easy and can be finished by average people.Definitely, the higher education degree you get, the more likely you are to enjoy a competitive edge in the employment market. Thus, the authorities should enforce some policies to ensure the equity of education.Only in this way can more people lead a stable and comfortable life.2013年6月英语四级作文题目

Directions:
For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay. You should start your essay with a brief description of the picture and then express your views on the importance of doing small things before undertaking something big.You should write at least 120 words but no more than 180 words.
图画的内容和构图不难:父亲和男孩子的对话,孩子说“ Dad,I am a bit worried about disposing ofnuclear weapon.(爸爸,我有点担心清除核武器这个问题)”,父亲则回答“ If you can empty the dustbin, you can doanything.(如果你能把垃圾桶倒掉,你就能坐好任何事情)”,说话间,手指着垃圾桶。
父亲问女儿:“ Hi, sweetie, how was your school today ?(嘿,小甜心,你在今天在学校过得怎么样?)”
这幅图画很容易看出主题,那就是做大事之前,要先做小事(一屋不扫,何以扫天下),而且题目中其实早就已经透露了主题了(express your views on the importance ofdoing small things before undertaking something big.)
We can see from the cartoon that there is a father talking with his son.Havingheard his son’s words that “ Dad, I am a bit worried about disposing of nuclearweapon.” The father replies that “ If you can empty the dustbin here, you cando anything” and points the garbage can beside him.Funny and common as the conversation sounds, it reflects that the father intends to advise his son to do small things beforeundertaking big.Definitely, doing small things is the first step of success and will lay root for doing something big.By doing something small, we are able to accumulate experience, master skills and train ourselves to be more patient. In other words, we can be well prepared for further challenges in the course of fulfilling small things.By contrast, those who desire to do something big at once will constantly be haunted by disappointment, frustrations or even failures, as with opportunities-“something big”-showing up , they can hardly seize them because of the lack of experience and confidence stems from doing small things.Taking the picture presented above as a case in point, how can the little boy succeed in disposing of nuclear weapons if he even doesn’t know how to empty the dustbin?
From my perspective, under no circumstances should we undervalue the power of doing small things.Instead, we should regard small things as the source of experience, skills and the prerequisite of success.“Great achievement only belongs to those who can do small things perfectly.” Aristotle also used to say.
As the drawing presents, there is a man walking across the street absorbedly focusing on his cell phone without noticing the surroundings. This sort of phenomenon is not uncommon and rare in some metropolis, especially among the youngsters. What the picture illustrates is the prevailing situation that has long existed in today's China. That is the mobile phone obsession. With the advent of information age, people are becoming increasingly fascinated on the electronic products, especially the cell phones. Not surprisingly, you could easily notice that most of us are obsessed in sending messages, playing online games with their mobile phones. It cannot be denied that this phenomenon may negatively impact the relationship among people, and therefore they will become estranged and isolated.Personally, in view of the overuse of mobile phones, I hold that we individuals should raise the necessary awareness that good relationship are reinforced by sincere and face-to-face communication.2014年6月英语四级作文题目:

The Most Beneficial Activity in My Campus
It is well known that university is greatly different from high school mainly due to that university will hold a large number of activities, which benefits college students a lot. From my perspective, the most beneficial one is “Long-distance Running for Love” organized by the Students Union when I am a freshman. The money collected by this activity is contributed to Project Hope.It is really my honor to participate the long running, because it benefits me greatly not only in body but also in mind.To begin with, the activity reminds me of the great importance of physical health. Before I go to college, I only focus on academic achievements while the physical health misses my attention. But, the long-running tells me in time that a sound mind lies in a sound body.Additionally, during my participation in this activity, I am informed well that there are still many children in rural areas who have to drop out of school because of impoverished families. Thus, for one thing, I fully realize the great importance of helping them fulfill their dreams. For another thing, I cherish the opportunity to study in university more, for when compared with those children in poverty-stricken areas, we should harbor a grateful heart.By and large, although I have taken part in many campus activities, I deem the long running for love most beneficial to me.And I am looking forward to that more wonderful and meaningful activities will be held in our campus.
