New Discovery

A hillbilly was visiting the big city for the first time.Entering an office building, he saw a pudgy older woman step into a small room. The doors closed, lights flashed, and after a while the door slid open and a beautiful young model stepped off the elevator.Blinking in amazement, the hillbilly drawled, “I shouldhave brought my wife!”

A lady went to a hat shop to buy a hat.As she was very fussy, it took her a long time to pick on one.Already at the end of his patience the salesman was afraid that she might change her mind again so he tried to flatter her: “An excellent choice, madam. You look at least ten years younger with this hat on!” To his dismay, the lady took off her hat at once and said: “I don't want a hat that makes me look ten years older as soon as I take it off.Show me some more hats!”

She kindled a third match.Again shot up the flame; and now she was sitting under a most beautiful Christmas tree ,far larger, and far more prettily decked out, than the one she had seen last Christmas eve through the glass doors of the rich merchant's house.Hundreds of wax-tapers lighted up the green branches, and tiny painted figures, such as she had seen in the

shop-windows, looked down from the tree upon her.The child stretched out her hands towards

them in delight, and in that moment the lights of the match warm quenched; still, however, the

Christmas candles burned higher and higher,she beheld them beaming like stars in heaven;

one of them fell, the lights streaming behind it like a long, fiery tail.“Now some one is dying,” said the little girl, softly, for she had been told by her old

grandmother, the only person who had ever been kind to her, and who was now dead that

whenever a star falls an immortal spirit returns to the God who gave it.She struck yet another match against the wall; it flamed up, and surrounded by its light, appeared before her that same dear grandmother, gentle and loving as always, but bright and

happy as she had never looked during her lifetime.

But the teacher cried

The six-year-old John was terribly spoiled. His father knew it, but his grandma doted on him.He hardly left her side. And when he wanted anything, he either cried or threw a temper tantrum. Then came his first day of school, his first day away from his grandmother's loving arms. When he came home from school his grandma met him at the door.”Was school all right?“ she asked, ”Did you get along all right? did you cry?“

”Cry?“ John asked.”No, I didn't cry, but the teacher did!“

A Bet

Two pals are sitting in a pub watching the eleven-'clock news.A reporter comes on about a

man threatening to jump from the 20th floor of a downtown building. One friend turns to the

other and says,'I'll bet you ten bucks the guy doesn't jump.'

'It's a bet,' agrees his buddy.A few minutes later, the man on the ledge jumps,so the loser hands his pal a $10 bill.'I can't

take your money,'his friend admits.'I saw him jump earlier on the six-o'clock news.'

'Me,too,'says the other buddy.'But I didn't think he'd do it again.

Julie was saying her bedtime prayers.”Please God,“ she said, ”make Naples the capital of

Italy.Make Naples the capital of Italy.“

Her mother interrupted and said.”Julie, why do you want God to make Naples the capital of

Italy?“

And Julie replied, ”Because that's what I put in my geography exam!“

Nest and Hair

My sister, a primary school teacher, was informed by one of her pupils that a bird had built

its nest in the tree outside the classroom.”What kind of bird?“ my sister asked.”I didn't see the bird, ma' am, only the nest,“ replied the child.”Then, can you give us a description of the nest?“ my sister encouraged her.”Well, ma'am, it just resembles your hair.“

there were two high mountains between Jizhou in the south and Heyang in the north. One was

called Taihang Mountain and the other Wangwu Mountain. Both of the mountains were very

high.Just to the north of the mountains lived an old man called Yu Gong who was nearly 90 years

old. With the two high mountains just in front of his house, his family and he had to walk a long

way around the mountains whenever they had something to do on the other side of the

mountains.

One day, Yu Gong called all his family together to talk about how to move the two mountains

to other places. His wife said, ”An old man like you cannot even move a small hill, not to mention

the two high mountains.Even if you can, where can you throw so much earth and stone?“

”the Bohai Sea is big enough to contain all the earth and stone,“ Yu Gong said.So it was decided. His children started to dig the mountains, led by the old man Yu Gong.

A man named Zhi Sou saw them working and tried to stop them, saying, ”You are so silly!

You're so old and weak that you can't even take away the grass and trees. How can you move the

high mountains?“

”You're wrong,“ Yu Gong said with a sigh.”Look, my sons can continue my work after my

death. When my sons die, my grandchildren will continue. So generations after generations, there's no end.But the mountains can't grow higher.Do you still say I can’t move them away?"

Later the Heaven God, upon learning of Yu Gong’s story, was GREatly moved. He then ordered

another god to come down and take the two high mountains away.the story tells us that so long as one is determined and sticks to it long enough, anything can

be done, no matter how difficult it is.

Students, guests , teachers and Honorable Judges

Good morning!

my great pleasure to share my dream with you today.my dream is to become a teacher....As the whole world has its boundaries, limits and freedom coexist in our life.I don’t expect complete freedom, which is impossible.I simply have a dream that supports my life.I dream that one day, I could escape from the deep sea of thick schoolbooks and lead my own life. With my favorite fictions, I lie freely on the green grass, smelling the spring, listening to the wind singing, breathing the fresh and cool air and dissolve my soul in nature at last.Simple and short enjoyment can bring me great satisfaction.I dream that one day the adults could throw their prejudice of comic and cartoon away. They could keep alovely heart that can share sorrow and happiness with us while watching cartoon or doing personal things. That’s the real communication of heart to heart.I have the belief that my dreams should come true.I am looking forward to some day coming when I am like a proud eagle, which flies to the blue and vast sky.

Good morning!

Students, guests , teachers and Honorable Judges

Good morning!

my great pleasure to share my dream with you today.I have kept the dream in my mind for so long that whoever in the sun is able to live a happy life for ever.I think this dream is deeply rooted in the future. As we can see, we are now not far away from violence, poverty, diseases, environmental pollution and even wars. Most of people are in

need of what they have never enjoyed. However, I still can stick to my innermost dream, as I still can see the bright lights in our future.I believe, there will be a day when those from the rich counties are really willing to share what they have with those from the poor countries;there will be a day when we are surprised to find that the word poverty has long been out of our memories;there will be a day when we are together to share our dreams and we will all contribute to making our common dreams come true.I will not just wait but to take action to live in my dream.

A long time ago in China lived the Jade Emperor. It was his birthday. He wanted to measure time to know how old he was.All the animals arrived. The Emperor decided to have a race to give a name to each year of the Chinese Zodiac. The rat and the cat couldn't swim very well.“Can you take us across the river?” “Yes, jump and quick!”

They swam across the river. Then the rat pushed the cat into the water and jumped on to land.”Well done, Rat!The first year will be the Year of the Rat and the second will be the Year of the OX.“

”Look! Here's the tiger. He's very tired. The third year will be the Year of the Tiger.“

”The rabbit can't swim but he's very clever. The fourth year will be the Year of the Rabbit.“

”Why are you late, Dragon? You can fly!“ ”I had to make some rain for thirsty people to drink.“ ”Well done! The fifth year is the Year of the Dragon.“

”What's this? I can hear a horse.No, it's a snake.So the snake has the sixth year.“

”Well done!It is good to see you working together! The goat is eighth, the monkey is ninth and rooster is tenth.“

“Sorry I'm late. The water is clean and I needed a bath.” “ The eleventh is the Year of the Dog.”

These are some crazy and weird superstitions.Feel free to add some more, I know there are so many of them in this world。 It’s just a number.Yet, people tweak on Friday the 13th.Many airports don’t have a gate #13.(Like the folks at 12A won’t figure it out。)Many hotels don’t have a floor #13.

I was always told that the superstition is based on the idea that Judas, the bad disciple, was the 13th man to sit down to the table at The Last Supper.I think a more rational superstition would be to fear bad disciples。

02 An acorn at the window will keep lightning out。 That is some acorn.

03 Spit on a new bat before using it for the first time to make it lucky.

Gross.Gross.Gross.In the spring of 2009, in fear of the Swine Flu, high schools all over the country forbade their athletes from shaking hands after the game.Pretty sure “not spitting on the bat” was implied.

And speaking in terms of basic physics, having a lubricated bat makes for less friction, and therefore, slippery balls … okay, now I’m just out of control. 04 In order to write this article, I had to get a Ph.D.in butterflies…

The early appearance of butterflies indicates fair weather. If the first butterfly is yellow, it will be sunny weather. If the first butterfly is white, it will be rainy summer。 If the first butterfly is white, someone will die。 If the first butterfly is red, you will be healthy。

If a white butterfly comes, summer follows. If a white butterfly flies from the southwest, expect rain。

If butterflies are found hanging from the underside of rails or branches, it’s going to rain。 If they are on the top of small branches, it will not rain。

If the first butterfly is dark, it means thunderstorms。

If the first butterfly is yellow, someone is going to give birth。 If a white butterfly enters your house and flies around you, you will die. If a moth lands on the mother of a newborn, the baby will die.

If a butterfly flies into your house, someone you know will die。

If a butterfly flies into your house, someone will get married. If you capture a butterfly, you will be struck dead。

If you see a butterfly at night, you will die。 There!Simple, right? 05 A cat onboard a ship is considered to bring luck。

I used to live on a ship.A cat would have been a real drag. All of those spaces to hide in, poop in, pee in? All of that machinery to get torn to pieces in? And who exactly would have been in charge of cleaning the litter boxes? Litter boxes are never lucky。

06 If three people are photographed together, the one in the middle will die first。

I can’t rationalize it, but this one just gives me the shivers。

07 If you stick your hands in your pocket while walking past a graveyard, it will protect your parents。

Makes me wonder what happens if I turn my pockets inside out.Or, take off my pants and wave my arms around.

08 Never take a broom along when you move.It is bad luck.Throw it out and buy a new one。

Isn’t that common sense? A used broom is kind of a nasty thing to box up with the linens.Like packing up used trash cans.A new broom costs like two dollars。 09 If a candle blows out, evil spirits are nearby。 Or, there’s a draft. 10 It is bad luck to light three cigarettes with the same match. Yeah it is.And that bad luck is called cancer. 11 Evil spirits can’t harm you when you stand inside a circle.

Oh, that explains all those people walking up and down the street wearing hula hoops。 12 It’s bad luck to pick up a coin if it’s tails side up.Good luck comes if it’s heads up。 In this economy, a little bad luck is worth the nickel.第十三条:呃,我是不是该命名它为第12A条? 13 – oops, should I have called this one #12A?

A cricket in the house brings good luck. It will also bring cricket poop。

If the palm of your right hand itches, it means you will soon be getting money. If the palm of your left hand itches, it means you will soon be paying out money.

If the palm of either of your hands is itching, you might want to get that checked。 15 A knife as a gift from a lover means that the love will soon end。 Who gives their lover a knife for a gift? What happened to roses or chocolate? Creepy!

A knife placed under the bed during childbirth will ease the pain of labor.

If I were the impregnator, I would be very nervous。 16 Salty soup is a sign that the cook is in love。

Check the sodium content on any can in any grocery store and feel good about how much love there is in the world。

17 Three seagulls flying together, directly overhead, are a warning of death soon to come. Or poop on your head。

Place a hand in front of your mouth when sneezing so that your soul cannot escape。 Now they tell us to sneeze into our armpits.I’ve got to feel sorry for any soul that gets sneezed into an armpit。

The number of Xs in the palm of your right hand is the number of children you will have。 I counted.I will have 47 children。

20 A new bride must be carried over the threshold because it’s bad luck if she falls。 I always thought it was because she was hammered from the reception。

The Charcoal-Burner and the Fuller A Charcoal-Burner carried on his trade in his own house. One day he met a friend, a Fuller, and entreated him to come and live with him, saying that they should be far better neighbors and that their housekeeping expenses would be lessened. The Fuller replied, “The arrangement is impossible as far as I am concerned, for whatever I should whiten, you would immediately blacken again with your charcoal.”

Like will draw like.

A Miser, to make sure of his property, sold all that he had had converted it into a great lump of gold, which he hid in a hole in the ground, and went continually to visit and inspect it.This roused the curiosity of one of his workmen, who, suspecting that there was a treasure, when his master's back was turned went to the spot and stole it away. When the Miser returned and found the place empty, he wept and tore his hair. But a neighbor who saw him in this extravagant grief, and learned the cause of it, said: “Fret thyself no longer, but take a stone and put it in the same place, and think that it is your lump of gold;for, as you never meant to use it, the one will do you as much gold as the other.”
