在汉语中，词与短语的组合方式、结构类型基本相同，以致不少学生无法从外在形式上来辨别。

如： A B

A 组是词，B 组是短语，仅从形式上很难看出区别。但词与短语无论从意义还是用法上，都不尽相同，认识它很有必要。可从以下四个方面分辨：

一、从构成上来区别

1.看有没有非自由语素

短语的构成单位必须是词（即自由语素）。词的构成单位是语素。可以是自由语素，也可以是半自由或不自由语素。因此，若一个结构中有非自由语素的存在，则一般是词。如“骨头、钉子、人性、异化”等斜体语素是不自由语素。“感官、平素、慨叹、语言”等两个语素都不是自由语素，故可以肯定它们是词，不是短语。

2.看有没有轻声语素

普通话中有大量的轻声词，所以一个语法组合其最后一个语素为轻声语素（虚词除外），则该组合一般为词。如“胡同、相声”等均有轻声语素，一定是词。

需要注意的是：同一语法组合，轻重音还能区分词与短语：

如：买卖（m à i）为短语：买和卖；买卖（mai）为词：生意。

东西（x ī）为短语：指方向；东西（xi）为词：泛指各种具体的或抽象的事物。

兄弟（d ì）为短语：指哥哥和弟弟；兄弟（di）为词：指弟弟或别的年纪比自己小的男人。

二、从语音上来区别

词的内部各语素之间语音上一般是连接的，也就是说语素之间没有语音停顿。如：“艰”与“苦”、“卓”与“越”、“问”与“题”之间不能停顿；短语的内部成分之间在语音上大多是停顿的，如“水火”、“问路”、“头晕”等，中间都可以有一个短暂的停顿，所以是短语。再者，词有固定的语音形式，而短语没有固定的语音形式，如“动员”和“动心”。“动员”有固定的语音形式，第一个音节读重音，中间不能停顿，是词；“动心”则没有固定的语音形式，两个音节都读重音，中间可以停顿，是短语。不过，有少数语言单位，既可以是词又可以是短语，需要根据具体的语文环境来衡量。如“大学”、“教学”，表示“高等学校”这个意思的“大学”是词，表示“广泛而深入地学习”这个意思的“大学”是短语；指“学校的中心工作”这个意思的“教学”是词，表示“教和学两个方面”这个意思的“教学”是短语。

三、从意义上来区别

一般来说，词的意义有整体性，即它的意义不是它的语素意义的简单相加，如“白菜”，专指一种蔬菜，而不是“白”和“菜”的意义相加；可短语的意义就不同了，它一般是由组成短语的几个词的意义相加，如“白布”，泛指一切白颜色的布，其意思是“白”和“布”的相加。

四、从能否扩展情况上来区别

由于词具有整体意义和凝固性，故在结构上不可再插入其它成分，而短语的组合具有临时性，内部结构松散，当中可以插入其它成分。这种判断词与短语的方法叫扩展法，又叫插入法。如：“老虎”与“老人”，“老虎”插入结构助词“的”之后，意思改变了，因为老虎可以有小老虎、大老虎、不是指“老的虎”，所以“老虎”不能进行扩展，是“词”；“老人”可以插入“的”字成分，且插入之后，意思基本不变，所以“老人”是“短语”。有这样一则笑话：
一老师要学生用“难过”造句，一个学生是这样写的：“从我家到外婆家去，有一条河很难过。”

显然，老师要求学生用“难过”造句，是把它当一个词对待，取“难受”之意，而学生在句中却把“难过”误用成了一个短语，是“难得过”的意思。造成错误理解的原因是该学生不知道，在现代汉语中，同形的双音结构的语音单位，在有的语境中是一个词，在有的语境中可能是一个短语。
例：①我请你吃饭。(“吃饭”是短语，指吃某顿饭)
②共产党人不靠吓人吃饭。(“吃饭”是词，泛指生活或生存)
③你把要带的东西都收好。(“东西”指物品)
④第一次到北京，出了车站竟不辨东西。(“东西”是短语，指东方和西方，泛指方向)
要把二者区别开来，首先是在特定的语言里，分析它的语义，一般说来，短语的语义往往是组成它的几个词的意义简单相加，如“有电”就是“有”和“电”两个词义的简单相加。而合成词的语义，不一定是组成它的语素意义的简单相加，如“马路”不能说成“马的路”。同理，“听到他去世的消息，我心里很难过”，句中的“难过”是“难受、伤心”的意思，不是语素意义的简单相加，而“有条河很难过”中的“难过”的意义就是两个词义的相加。由此便分辨出了前者是词，后者是短语。
其次，从语法结构方面考虑，词的内部语素之间结构紧密，具有定型性和不可扩展性；短语内部词与词之间结构较松，可以拆开，可以扩展(即中间可以插入其它成分)。例①中“我请你吃饭”可以扩展成“我请你吃团圆饭”；而例②中则不能说成“共产党人不靠吓人吃早饭”。由此可见，运用扩展法是区别词和短语，特别是同音同形的词和短语的比较可靠的方法。

(三)合成词和短语(词组)1.词和短语的区别

(1)从意义上来看，词表达的概念是比较单纯的、凝固的，因为一个合成词的意义并不是各语素所表示的意义的简单的相加，而短语表示的，则是较为复杂的概念，因而一个短语的意义，一般是各个词的意义相加。例如，“骨肉”不等于“骨和肉”，是词，“血肉”却等于“血和肉”，是短语；“打场”不等于“打场地”，是词，“打虎”却等于“打老虎”，是短语。

(2)从结构关系上来看，合成词内部，语素之间结合紧密，一般不能插入其他语言成分，而短语内部，词与词之间的结合较松散，一般可以插入其他语言成分。例如，“心肺正常”可以说成“心和肺都正常”，“把我们的血肉筑成我们新的长城”可以说成“把我们的血和肉„„”，所以“心肺”、“血肉”是短语；而“他心肠很好”却不能说成“他心和肠都很好”，“骨肉关系”也不能说成“骨和肉的关系”，所以“心肠”“骨肉”都是词。

(3)从语音停顿上来看，合成词内部语素之间一般没有语音停顿，短语内部词与词之间可以有语音停顿。例如，“中华-人民-共和国”其间可以有语音停顿，是短语；“社会主义”“无产阶级”，其间没有语音停顿，是词。2.词和短语的关系

(1)有些短语可以简化或节缩为新词。

(2)有些合成词可以拆开，中间插入别的语言成分构成短语。3.词和名称

人和事物的名字就叫名称。名称都是由词或短语来充当的。有些名称是由一个词来充当的，如“太阳”“化合物”“《呐喊》”“奥斯特洛夫斯基”，有些名称是由两个或更多的词(即短语)来充当的，如“中国人民解放军”“《钢铁是怎样炼成的》”等。这种由几个词构成的名称，用起来像一个词一样，可以独立地作句子的一个成分，但我们不能说它是一个词。

“血”字有文白二读：一读xuè（文），用作书面语读音；一读xiě（白），用作口头语读音。但是，书面语和口头语有时候不大容易区分，要是按“血”字

用法来区分，就比较容易掌握了。

“血”用在合成词和成语中，属于书面语用法，应读成xuè。如：血液、血汗、血迹、血案、血本、血统、血亲、血色、血债、输血、贫血、心血、充血、热血、浴血、血小板、吸血鬼、混血儿、脑溢血、血海深仇、血流如注、头破血

流、狗血喷头、有血有肉。

“血”单独使用或用在短语（词组）中，属于口头语用法，应读成xiě。如：吐了一口血、血的教训、血的代价、像血一样红（以上属单用）、血脓、血块、血斑、鸡血、猪血、卖血、献血、验血、抽血（以上都是双音节短语，它们在普

通话中不列为词条）。

值得一提的是，汉语的合成词与短语之间的界限，语法学界至今尚未彻底解决。不过在通常情况下还是可以区分的，哪就是看它们的概念上的差异以及内部的结合关系紧密与否。合成词概念是单纯的、固定的，不是语素意义的简单相加，其内部的结合关系比较紧密；而短语所表在宾？概念缺乏专指性，是几个词的意义的总和，其内部的结合关系比较松驰。例如：“流血牺牲”、“流血事件”中的“流血”特指“牺牲生命或负伤”，因此是合成词，应该读xuè（词典上有）；而例1中的“流血过多”的“流血”，并非指“牺牲生命或负伤”，而是指“流出的血”，因此是短语，应该读xiě（词典上不收“流血xiě”）。短语的内部结构关系比较松驰，它可以插入一些别的词语。例如：“鸡血→鸡的血”、“献血→献了一次血”、“抽血→抽了血→抽一点血”、“流血→流了点血→流出了血”。而合成词的内部结构比较紧密，一般是不能插入别的词语的，如“血水”不可说成“血和水”、“血球”不可说成“血凝成的球”；只有少数动宾式的合成词内部可以插入别的词语，如“输血”可以说“输了一次血”、“输300CC血”，但它还是合成词，因为它是医学上的专门术语，不是语素意义的简单相加，不等于“输送血液”。

当然，特例也有。那就是几个口语词，如“吐血、咯（kǎ）血、便血、血糊糊、血淋淋”和成语“一针见血”中的“血”要读成xiě。笔者发现词典上含有“血”字的成语中，只有“一针见血”的“血”注音为xiě，其余都注音为xuè。究其原因，大概是“一针见血”这个成语来源于群众口语的缘故吧。记住了特例，其余场合的“血”字，只要掌握了它的用法，也就掌握了它的读音。如果还不放心，那么可以查《现代汉语词典》或《汉语成语词典》。
