《麦田里的守望者》虽然篇幅不大,只十几万字,却在美国社会和文学界产生了巨大的影响。从第二次世界大战结束到今天的当代美国文学中,有两部小说经过三十多年时间的考验,已被认为是“现代经典”:一部是黑人作家拉尔夫·艾里森(Ralph Elli,1914—)的《无形人》(The Invisible Man,1952),一部就是杰罗姆·大卫·塞林格(J.D.Salinger)(1919/1/1——2010/1/27)的《麦田里的守望者》。1951年,这部小说一问世,立即引起轰动。主人公的经历和思想在青少年中引起强烈共鸣,受到读者,特别是大中学生的热烈欢迎。校园里到处都模仿小说主人公霍尔顿——他们在大冬天身穿风衣,倒戴着红色鸭舌帽,讲着“霍尔顿式”的语言,因为这部小说道出了他们的心声,反映了他们的理想、苦闷和愿望。甚至在六十年代初期,外国学者只要跟美国学生一谈到文学,他们就马上提出了《麦田里的守望者》

小说主角——霍尔顿·考菲尔德出生于一个富裕的中产阶级家庭,在一所私立的贵族高中上学。理论上来说,他不该有什么抱怨,优渥的物质生活是不该被抱怨的。然而这个16岁的少年却不然,他看什么都不顺眼。他讨厌同学,讨厌学校,讨厌父母,甚至会讨厌那些说“祝你好运”的人,以及那些说“很高兴认识你”的人,以及在钢琴演奏中瞎鼓掌的人。他讨厌数学、物理、地理、历史以及写作之外的一切学科。他不像别人能在学习中找到乐趣。他用一种鸡毛蒜皮的方式讨厌着那些鸡毛蒜皮的事情,于是他的生活只剩下烦人的抱怨

也许在很多人眼里,因为青春,这样的一种抱怨,这样的一种唧唧歪歪都可以被宽容。然而,这真的只是无辜少年反抗压抑的社会秩序发出的声音吗?我们总是喜欢借着青春的名义去宽容一切叛逆。披着青春的外皮,颓废变成了个性,懒惰变成了反抗,空虚变成了性感,霍尔顿变成了“酷”的代名词。《麦田里的守望者》一书出版后,轰动一时。霍尔顿这个深恶痛绝虚伪的瘦长少年形象成了千万青少年读者眼中的“新英雄”。我看到不少地方将《麦田里的守望者》定义为青春小说,也有人认为这是一部关于一个人在看透人生之注定失败后如何说服自己去耐心地完成这个失败的小说。不管世人评价好坏,这部作品影响了一代美国人,如今被奉为现代文学十大经典之一,美国文学史上的青春读本,自然是有其独到之处的。

小说中,霍尔顿也曾思考过:自己好好学习,将来好好工作,按照父母的期望买到一辆凯迪拉克。可这之后呢?买辆凯迪拉克又是为了什么?照着多数人既定的人生计划规规矩矩地融入这个社会,变成它低俗却不可缺少的一部分?在学校里的时候,霍尔顿感到四周的人都是一副虚伪的丑恶嘴脸,谈着酒与性,这让他没办法集中心思学习。霍尔顿迷茫了。他也可以有自己的追求:知识,文学,音乐,和心爱的人静坐谈天,思考中央公园里的鸭子冬天上哪儿去了。可他做不到,年轻的心里塞满了愤怒。若是用愤怒感知自己,那也就罢了。可是身边的人,老师,室友,女友都不是什么穷凶极恶之徒,他们都是一些普通人。而这些世俗里的普通人用他们的说不清好坏,让霍尔顿连愤怒也做不到。霍尔顿迷茫,痛苦,他厌恶周围虚伪的一切。而他又是怯懦的,于是他想到了逃离。他想做一个守望者,守护孩子,让他们不要坠下悬崖。或许这种想法是异想天开,是天马行空,可事实上我们是能在现实中找到对应的。

我们不能说霍尔顿完全厌弃这个世界,他也有自己喜欢和珍视的任何事。他喜欢弟弟艾里,喜欢进入好莱坞之前的那个哥哥D.B.,喜欢邻家女孩琴,但这简单的喜欢,单薄的亲情还不足以完全支撑起他完整的精神世界。我们不得不思索一个问题,如果霍尔顿进一步挖掘这些他不排斥的闪光点,进一步善待因为迷茫而迷失方向停在手心的一寸光阴,那么他的人生会不会是另一番光景?小说的结局会不会更圆满些?

最后,霍尔顿住进了疗养院。人们说是当时二战后混乱的社会,资本主义空洞的精神文明酿造了这一出悲剧。但我想说对于霍尔顿而言,使他崩溃的因素还有很多。我们不能单方面地指责外部环境的恶劣,霍尔顿本身的问题也是不能我们所忽略的。

青春不该一昧逃离,也无需用堕落去叛逆。现实再残酷,需要面对的时候,我们还是该勇敢面对。正因为青春,我们充满力量,勇往直前。正因为勇敢地承认现状,我们才不会在幻想中迷失自己,在落差中一样能够笑对人生。

近段时间再度翻开《麦田里的守望者》,静下心读,就像是翻阅自己曾有的体验,一切支离破碎的过往,所有疯狂和苦涩,彷徨和迷惘,穿越时空的荒漠重现,真实地在这一刻扎根。霍尔顿渴望做一个终生的“麦田守望者”。他希望自己做一个麦田的守望者,实际上是希望在他冲向那悬崖的一刹那,会有那么一位守望者从不知名的地方冲出来,截住他。书中的霍尔顿是一个需要被守望的人,是一个四处奔跑不知方向的孩子。他希望在现实的世界中寻找一丝慰藉,又希望在虚幻的成人世界寻找纯洁与真诚。现实与理想的差距,他无法跨越。他在这两者之间是一个矛盾体,而这种矛盾最终让他彻底崩溃,躺在精神病院里。然而有谁可以做他的守望者呢?在他快掉入悬崖的时候,及时的抓住他的双手。没有这样的人存在。

回想我们未管所里监管的犯人,或多或少的在他们身上都有着霍尔顿的影子。稚嫩的心因迷惘而恐惧,当他们走向犯罪的悬崖时,没有守望者把他们拉回来。现在他们在监狱里用宝贵的青春来偿还曾经过错,我想到了身为未管所监狱人民警察,是否应具备一种守望者的特性的呢。答案是肯定的。我想每个人心中都会有一片麦田吧!就像有家一样的感觉。在金灿灿的麦穗尽情的嬉闹边有孩子嬉闹,也有你自己满足的微笑!在面对一个个“霍尔顿”的时候,我们不会因为“霍尔顿”的稚嫩,愤世嫉俗,特性独立而疏远抛弃。守望者的规劝是青少年迷途中的一束曙光,青春路上的行动指南。霍尔顿们的迷茫与失落永是成长中人们的迷茫与失落,帮助霍尔顿们纠正行程中的偏差,快速步上人生正轨,是守望者们应尽之责。

《麦田里的守望者》是美国作家杰罗姆〃大卫〃塞林格唯一的一部长篇小说,塞林格将故事的起止局限于16岁的中学生霍尔顿〃考尔菲德从离开学校到纽约游荡的三天时间内,并借鉴了意识流天马行空的写作方法,充分探索了一个十几岁少年的内心世界。愤怒与焦虑是此书的两大主题,主人公的经历和思想在青少年中引起强烈共鸣,受到读者的热烈欢迎。《纽约时报》的书评写道:在美国,阅读《麦田里的守望者》就像毕业要获得导师的首肯一样重要。其后,《麦田里的守望者》直接影响了这一类小说的创作。

1.在麦田里守望,垮掉一代的简单理想。

美国的五十年代是一个相当混乱的时期,二战的阴云尚未散去,冷战硝烟又起。一方面科技发展迅速,而另一方面,人们缺乏理想,意志消沉,在自己无力改变的社会大背景下,过着混混噩噩的生活。于是,“垮掉的一代”出现了,霍尔顿就是其中的一员。他抽烟酗酒,不求上进,但是,他还不至于沦落到吸毒、群居的地步。因为在他心底,一直还存有美丽而遥远的理想——做一个“麦田里的守望者”。

霍尔顿说,有那么一群小孩子在一大块麦田里做游戏。几千几万个小孩子,附近没有一个人--没有一个大人,我是说--除了我。我的职务是在那儿守望,要是有哪个孩子往悬崖边奔来,我就把他捉住。我整天就干这样的事。我只想当个麦田里的守望者。

成长的烦恼、生活的矛盾不仅仅是那个时代特有的。现在的孩子们的压力和负担一点也不比那个时代的孩子少,也许并没有像主人公那么极端的,但在内心深处却也都聚集了很多的无奈和急需发泄的情绪。那么,作为教师、家长、学校和社会上其它人,我们要怎么做呢?

作为教师,我们需要给学生们一些空间,让他们张扬个性,自主创新,更多的引导而非强制,但是也不是一味的包容,要找到底线——比如说悬崖,这时就必须干涉。我们要像守望者一样呵护他们的成长,及时给予疏导和关怀。我们要集中精神看准我们的前方,让那些早已习惯了困惑和孤独的孩子们,不要走向悬崖。

看得出,霍尔顿那时的心境是渴望自己做个麦田里的守望者,好挽救那些不小心的孩子,但同时他又是多么渴望有个麦田里的守望者能挽救他。作为教师,我也想像他那样成为学生们的守望者。

我想,“守望”应该是一种习惯、一种智慧,同时也更应该是一种境界,一种态度。为了孩子的健康成长,社会还需要更多的“麦田守望者”。这个麦田当然可以小到一个家庭、大到一所学校甚至是一个社会。每个人,都应该为他人追求美好生活的理想守望并在守望中成就单纯而又美好的生活。
