在一个社会中，道德的力量是很强大、很重要的，因为它可以从内在去约束人们的行为，使人们按照公认的标准处事，从而有助于社会的稳定、和谐，它与制度相辅相成，是相互推进的关系。但用道德去治理社会，却存在着明显缺陷，特别是道德对权力的约束是无力的；反过来，权力往往借助制定道德规矩来扩张自身的权势。假设道德能够严厉约束一些人的行为，象陈希同、成克杰、***这样的蛀虫就不会产生。因此，道德与制度相比，道德的作用就会显得苍白无力，如果没有一个好的制度，光靠道德约束很难持久，尤其是对一个握有权力的人来讲，在今天这个“金钱至上，物欲横流”的时代，个人的道德是靠不住的，这是由人的自私、贪欲的本性所决定的，不建立一个相互制约的制度来约束，单靠当权者道德自律是根本靠不住的。

由题可观之，寒门子弟指的就是在其所生活的地方仅能够满足温饱甚至连温饱都难以满足的家庭中的学龄人。而拥有平等的机会则是指拥有相同的选择接受高等教育的权利。即就是家境贫寒的学子与非寒门学子是同样拥有选择接受高等教育的权利的。为何我方这样说，其原因有三点：

首先，从个人而言，每个人都是相同的，我们每个人的存在都是平等的，我们拥有平等的人权，拥有平等的时间，拥有平等接受万物的感知。这正是我们个人的平等

同时，从国家而言，我国的普通高等学校招生全国统一考试，即我们通称的高考正是由国家提出并且坚决贯彻的一项为所有希望接受高等教育的人提供机会的政策，这对每个人都是平等的，它的报名、评卷均与你的家庭无关，这样的机会难道还不算是平等的机会吗？是的，它当然是个平等的机会。而高等教育对个人的选拔本身就是平等的，它不因为你的家境，背景而对你另眼相看，他看重的是你的能力。正所谓有能者居之，正是现在高等教育所遵从的人才选拔方式。这就是我们国家为我们提供的平等环境。
