Show me the way to go home
Unexpected numbers of young adults are living with their
parents
By Anastasia Toufexis
First Maggie, then 20, asked Stepmom and Dad if she could store a few boxes with them in Washington while she looked for another place to live. Then Maggie said she would like to move in to be with her boxes until her boyfriend Joe bought a condominium.Next Maggie asked whether Joe could move in “temporarily” until the condo deal was closed. When Lucy and Pablo Sanchez returned home from vacation last Christmas, they found their small living room crammed with his boxes and a second welcome mat next to their own on the front porch.Lucy Sanchez immediately did what any loving but put-upon parent would do: “ I had a migraine,” she says.Such tales are becoming abundantly familiar as American parents are forced to make room for their adult children.“ There is a naive notion that children grow up and leave home when they are 18, and the truth is far more that,” says Sociologist Larry Bumpass of the University of Wisconsin in Madison.Today, according to the U.S.Census Bureau, 59% of men and 47% of women between 18 to 24 depend on their parents for housing, some living in college
dorms but most at home.In 1970 the figures were 54% and 41%.Also, 14% of men and 8% of women ages 25 to 34 are dependent on their parents for housing, in contrast to 9.5% and 6.6% in 1970.“ This is part of a major shift in the middle class,” declares Sociologist Allan Schnaiberg of Northwestern University. He should know: Schnaiberg's stepson, 19, moved back in after an absence of eight months.Analysts cite a variety of reasons for this return to the nest. The marriage age is rising, a condition that makes home and its amenities particularly attractive to young people, say experts.A high divorce rate and a declining remarriage rate are sending economically pressed and emotionally battered survivors back to parental shelters. For some, the expense of an away-from-home college education has become so exorbitant that many students now attend local schools.Even after graduation, young people find their wings clipped by skyrocketing housing costs.Notes Sociologist Carlfred Broderick of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, who has a son, 31, and a daughter, 27, in residence: “ They are finding that the good life is not spontaneously generated out there.”
Sallie Knighton, 26, moved back to her parents' suburban Atlanta home to save enough money to buy a car.Her job as a
teacher provided only enough money to cover car payments and an additional loan she had taken out.Once the loan was paid off, she decided to take a crack at a modeling career.Living at home, says Knighton, continues to give her security and moral support.“ If I had lived away,” she says, “ I would be miserable still teaching.” Her mother concurs, “ It is ridiculous for the kids to pay all that money for rent.It makes sense for kids to stay at home.” Bradley Kulat, 25, makes about $20,000 a year as an equipment technician in a hospital. That is enough to support a modest household, but he chooses to live at his parents’ split-level ranch house outside Chicago, as does his sister Pamela, 20, who commutes to a nearby college. He admits to expensive tastes. He recently bought an $8,000 car and owns an $800 stereo system, a $300 ten-speed bike and an elegant wardrobe.Says his mother Evelyn: “ It keeps you thinking younger, trying to keep up with them.”
Sharing the family home requires adjustments for all. There are the hassles over bathrooms, telephones and privacy. Some families, however, manage the delicate balancing act.At 34, Esther Rodriguez dreaded returning to her parents’ Denver home after three years of law school forced her $20,000 into debt.“ I thought it was going to be a restriction on my independence,” she recalls.Instead, she was touched when her father installed a desk and phone in the basement so she would have a private study. The Sanchez family too has made a success of the arrangement.Says Lucy Sanchez: “ Family is family, and we believe and act on that.” But for others, the setup proves too difficult.Michelle Del Turco, 24, of Englewood, Colo., a Denver suburb, has been home three times---and left three times.“ What I considered a social drink, my dad considered an alcohol problem,” she explains.“ He never liked anyone I dated, so I either had to sneak around or meet them at friends’ houses.Just how long should adult children live with their parents before moving on? Lucille Carlini of Brooklyn returned home with her two daughters after a divorce. That was almost twelve years ago.She is now 37 and her daughters 18 and 16.They still live with Carlini’s mother Edie, who has welcomed having three generations in the same house.Still, most psychologists feel lengthy homecomings are a mistake.Offspring, struggling to establish separate identities, can wind up with “ a sense of inadequency, defeat and failure,” says Kristine Kratz, a counselor with the Personal Development Institute in Los Angeles. And aging parents, who should be enjoying some financial and personal freedom, find themselves bogged down with responsibilities.Says Debra
Umberson, a researcher at the University of Michigan: “ Living with children of any age involves compromise and obligation, factors that can be detrimental to some aspects of well being. All children, even adult children, require accommodation and create stress.”
Brief visits, however, can work beneficially.Five years ago Ellen Rancilio returned to the Detroit area to live with her father after her marriage broke up.She stayed only seven months, but “ it made us much closer,” she says.Indeed, the experience was so positive that she would not hesitate to put out the welcome mat when her own three sons are grown.Declares she: “ If they needed help like I did, yes.”

International Business and Cross-cultural Communication The increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication.Americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts.Negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. It involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation. In many international business negotiations abroad, Americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. It often appears to the foreign negotiator that the American represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. The American negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal purveyor of information and cash.In studies of American negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. Two traits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the American negotiator.Furthermore, American negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals.Foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long-term benefits. In order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator.

I choose for my subject faith wrought into life, apart from creed or dogma.By faith I mean a vision of good one cherishes and the enthusiasm that pushes one to seek its fulfillment regardless of obstacles.Faith is a dynamic power that breaks the chain of routine and gives a new, fine turn to old commonplaces.Faith reinvigorates the will, enriches the affections and awakens a sense of creativeness.
Active faith knows no fear, and it is a safeguard to me against cynicism and despair. After all, faith is not one thing or two or three things;it is an indivisible totality of beliefs that inspire me.Belief in God as infinite good will and all-seeing Wisdom whose everlasting arms sustain me walking on the sea of life.Trust in my fellow men, wonder at their fundamental goodness and confidence that after this night of sorrow and oppression they will rise up strong and beautiful in the glory of morning.Reverence for the beauty an preciousness of the earth, and a sense of responsibility to do what I can to make it a habitation of health and plenty for all men.Faith in immortality because it renders less bitter the separation from those I have loved and lost, and because it will free me from unnatural limitations and unfold still more faculties I have in joyous activity.Even if my vital spark should be blown out, I believe that I should behave with courageous dignity in the presence of fate and strive to be a worthy companion of the beautiful, the good, and the True. But fate has its master in the faith of those who surmount it, and limitation has its limits for those who, thought disillusioned, live greatly.True faith is not a fruit of security, it is the ability to blend mortal fragility with the inner strength of the spirit. It does not shift with the changing shades of one's thought.
It was a terrible blow to my faith when I learned that millions of my fellow creatures must labor all their days for food and shelter, bear the most crushing burdens and die without having known the joy of living. My security vanished forever, and I have never regained the radiant belief of my young years that earth is a happy home and hearth for the majority of mankind. But faith is a state of mind. The believer is not soon disheartened. If he is turned out of his shelter, he builds up a house that the winds of the earth cannot destroy.
When I think of the suffering and famine, and the continued slaughter of men, my spirit bleeds, but the thought comes to me that, like the little deaf, dumb and blind child I once was, mankind is growing out of the darkness of ignorance and hate into the light of a brighter day.

Life is a boundless sea, a person is a small boat on the sea.The sea is not calm, so people are always happy and sad. When the trouble of nameless comes, frustrated and confused burning each nerve. But, my friend, don't forget to keep a quiet heart. The pain will no longer be there. In front of everyone, there is a road to the distance, rugged but full of hope. Not everyone can go far away, because there are always people who are tired of leaving their shoes in the sand. Therefore, the feeling of the master is not the pleasure and the pain itself, but the mood. When the troubles of life come, please drop the load, look up to the bright, blue sky, let the gentle blue into the heart.Just as I was tired of playing in my childhood, I lay down on a soft green grass and let the sun dance on my face and let the breeze brush the unwrinkled heart. When surrounded by layers of frustrated, please open the window and let the breath of fresh air came in, and in the earthy scent of sweet looking for a quiet, like a child, pick up the dandelion of fine beard, summoned the cheeks are blown open a and a small umbrella, with a surprise close your eyes, make a wish. Therefore, the heart has a lot of comfort and joy. When the helpless melancholy comes, please shine your eyes, watch the sunset, listen to the birds chirping.Like a childhood in a small courtyard to listen to the song of cricket cricket, the rise of a number of stars twinkling in the sky.So, all the annoying noises gradually disappear, and have a quiet heart.Hold on to a peaceful heart, you will sincerely sigh: even if I am not happy, do not frown deeply, life is short, why should we cultivate bitterness?
Hold on to a quiet heart, you will understand that big can dilute worry, quiet can dispel confusion.Yes, no one knows how far away it is, but open the window of the soul, let the sunshine and the moonlight come in, and there is a song of joy that never dies.By holding on to a peaceful heart, you can constantly transcend and challenge yourself constantly.Even if the distance is forever, there will be something--a miracle. From youth digest

1Chinese Women Volleyball Team
It all began in June, 1976, when the new China National Women's Volleyball Team was formed. It wasn't easy, as the world of volleyball was dominated either by the Western teams which were characterized by their power and height, or by the more versatile Eastern teams(e.g.Japan)which are know for their speed and skill. But the new team had two features that became important for their later success: Hope and a good coach.Yue Wai Man, 37 at that time, was named the head coach of the team. His unique vision made him realize to be one of the best, you have to learn what makes them the best. Therefore, a unique style combining speed, height, power and skill was developed.Being the best of Asia was only the first step. Our beloved Chinese ladies knew full well what has been waiting for them next.I really hope our Chinese Women Volleyball Team can win the gold again.
2We all know that the Chinese women volleyball team beat the Serbia to claim the gold medal of the women's volleyball tournament at Rio 2016 Olympic Game. This news has convinced us and reassured us that the Spirit of China Woman Volleyball does exist. It seemed to win the match was not possible for the Chinese team, but the girls were very strong and insistented to fight for the last minute.Even they lost the first game, they never gave up.As the saying goes,”Never give up.” What it implies is that in order to achieve our goals,we should never give up,even when we are in adversity. There is a silver lining and be positive and hopeful in times of darkness. Here I can think of no better illustration of the proverb than the stories of some famous people, such as the story of the famous inventor Edison, who argued that genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration. As we all know,Edison invented the light bulb. All things are difficult before they become easy.So it follows that whatever we do,we will inevitably encounter difficulties and frustration, even setbacks. What’s more,in time of this inevitable darkness,it is fruitless to curse or complain;rather be positive and to get ready for the sunshine.Positive thinking will let us do everything better than negative thinking do.When light comes with opportunity,a positive attitude is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results. In conclusion,I think we should always keep the three words “Never Give Up” in mind, keep a positive thinking and silver lining will be the best assurance all though. We should try our best to pursue our dreams.

for babies to grow up healthily and for people to live longer. With improved living conditions, particularly in the countryside, people tend to have larger families. As a result, the world population has increased so rapidly that it has now exceeded 5 billion. But the overgrowth of population presents a threat to the existence of human society.A large population demands a great deal of food supply and shelter space. However, the limited productivity and scarce natural resources can hardly meet the needs of the ever-Increasing population. Thus in the long run, the overgrowth of the world population will only harm mankind.

5Nearly everybody has a creek in his or her past, a secret waterway where one spent the spring of one’s youth.
