联络与催询

申请人按照学校规定提供各种材料以后，并不能就此静坐等待结果。在绝大多数情况下，还得与对方学校保持联络。所寄去的材料也未必完全符合对方的要求，如有这种情况，对方会来信要求更正、补充或处理。可能发生的问题很多，其中常见的包括：

1.不接受成绩单复印件；

2.TOEFL、GRE或其他考试成绩未收到—— 多数学校对这些成绩只承认ETS寄去的正本，而不接受申请人提供的成绩单。但ETS处理需时最少六星期，这种延迟常被对方认为未收到；

3.TOEFL成绩低于标准，要求重考—— TOEFL成绩最低标准470分到550不等；

4.拟修专业填写不详—— 许多申请人在填表时，未把拟修专业(Proposed major)填明，对方来信要求补充； 5.缺少自传、读书计划等材料； 6.尚未收到推荐信；

7.要求提供学位证明； 8.要求更改专业—— 拟修专业的课程已取消或每年只在秋季开课。

9.提出的财力证明数额不足或未经银行证明。

以上所说的问题常常发生，其原因或是由于申请人不熟悉申请程序，或是由于邮递的延误。但不论原因如何，申请人接信后应该尽快查明予以更正，并将处理情况函复对方。缺少的材料如已寄出很久，仍未到达，则很可能投递错误而遗失。申请人应该再寄一次。

另有一些学校，由于行政人员不足，不会主动与申请人联络，你不寄齐材料他就不审查你的申请，这是常事，故申请人在时隔一、二个月后未得到对方任何信息，便应该去信催询，请对方告知申请是否已完成，或是否已收到所需的一切材料。

不过主动联络必须适度。催询过频会使对方厌烦，申请人必须考虑对方处理所需的时间，不能期望每一询问函件都立即得到反应，一般而言，当材料寄出后，可去函告知，并询问材料是否收齐或是否还需补寄任何材料。

如果入学申请已被批准，通常对方会先以正式函件通知，然后再发Ⅰ－20表，也有些学校要申请者填写一张回执，说明是否接受，还有些学校要求先缴一笔定金(deposit)，然后才发Ⅰ－20表，这种定金通常在注册时可抵充学费。如果不止一个学校发来录取通知，那么，在慎重选择后应及早通知不去的学校，并退还Ⅰ－20表。

出国留学与爱国主义

我认为，留学与爱国主义不存在丝毫矛盾。这个问题只是某些人片面（甚至是偏执）看待事物的产物而已。

请问学英语是否代表不爱国？

请问购买外国商品是否代表不爱国？

请问出国旅游是否代表不爱国？

上述问题的答案是显而易见的。当今世界，“全球化”趋势已是必然。我们不可能再像二百年前那样一味沉醉于自我力量的“强大”，闭关锁国，不与外界沟通交流。而留学也正如其他诸多事物一样，是全球资源整合与共享的形式之一。故，把这一点单独拿出来讲是完全没有必要的。

再者说，我们每个人都清楚，我国还有很多地方是落后于很多发达国家的。既已落后，当然要学习以使自己进步。这样看来，留学就成了一种绝对必要的存在。学习他人先进之处以弥补自身缺陷，这又何错之有？

可能很多人会认为，留学生毕业之后不回国，这才是问题所在。对此，已经有很多例子为我们作了最精彩的回答。钱学森，邓稼先，还有许许多多其他前辈，他们无一不在祖国最需要他们的时候毅然回国，而他们在国外学到的先进知识也成了报效祖国的重要前提。“只要祖国需要，我们马上回去！”这是很多留学生的真实想法。而今，我国各行各业已经人才辈出，何以在每个留学生毕业之后都强迫他们回来呢？谁能保证他们每个人都能找到最适合自己的位置发挥才干？让他们寻找最能发挥自身价值的地方工作不是更好吗？还是那句话，“只要祖国需要，我们马上回去！”即使在国外工作，那颗随时准备为国出一份力的心也绝对不容置疑！

当然，在这个问题上，清华这一曾经的“留美预备学校”是绝对不能不提的。而历史早已告诉我们，出国留学，是为了更好地把知识带回来！即使每年出国人数最多，但清华“又红又专”的特点则从根本上说明：留学与爱国主义无丝毫矛盾！不然，“红色工程师的摇篮”这个称呼又从何而来？

综上所述，留学，与爱国主义毫无相悖之处。某种程度上，留学在外反而更能激发我们对祖国的热爱与强烈的归属感！
