英语翻译与实践有涉及传统的文学和文化翻译的，也有谈应用翻译的，包括经贸翻译、科技翻译、法律翻译、新闻翻译等等。尽管如此，这些文章有一个共同点，那就是都是围绕着翻译理论和实践中的一些问题展开的，所以也就不怕重复，名之曰“英语翻译理论与实践论文集”。
2012年下学期所选修的英语翻译与实践课程，内容主要为英译汉，并且如何将句子翻译到位，英汉文化差异对习语翻译的影响，英文电影的欣赏与点评，品牌名的翻译原则及翻译方法，科技英语翻译亦需“雅“，浅谈文化差异与英汉成语翻译，翻译中的文化差异与词义偏离。
从信、达、雅看翻译方法，这是老师在上课经常强调需要注意的地方。另外，论影视剧片名的翻译，注重文化差异，巧译英语习语，应用翻译研究——如何使英文译文更地道，也是值得特别关注的。
比如，老师在第一节课上讲的第一个句子：I`m up to my neck in you bullshit.这个句子就显得比较抽象，如果用直译的方法，就会显得比较生硬，而如何将它翻译得更贴切呢，这就得跟平常的习语联系起来，应翻译成“你把我害惨了！”。当然，这只是其中的一个例子而已，也就再次说明了翻译理论中的美，语义翻译与交际翻译的区别与应用，直译、意译与译者主体性。另外，在这门课程中，学到了不少陌生的英语单词与词组，增加了自己的词汇量。例如，“thorns”的中文意思为“荆棘”，“organic cotton”的中文意思为“有机棉”，“a senior citizen”的中文意思为“老人”，等等。对于英汉语言中颜色词的文化差异及翻译，这里也可以用一个例子来说明：“Do you see any green in my eye？”这里的“green”不应翻译成“绿色”，整个句子应翻译成“你觉得我好欺负吗？”语义翻译和交际翻译方法在实际中的应用也是不可忽视的，在与异国人对话过程中，将别人的话会错意是挺尴尬的事情，所以，英语翻译与实践这门课程起到了不可忽视的作用。
最适合读者的翻译法——根据译作的功能来决定，英语文化词语的翻译涉及创造性，而创造性在翻译中存在的必然性与价值是值得肯定的，翻译的标准不仅是我们衡量译文质量的尺度,也是我们从事翻译时要努力达到的目标。从事翻译必须广泛涉猎不同文化间的差异,还要注意语言环境的影响,把“忠实”放在第一位,同时要通顺、易懂。关键需要注意的是翻译标准;语言环境;文化差异。
翻译是一种创造性的语言艺术工作。鲁迅先生说过:凡是翻译,必须兼顾两面,一则当然力求其易解,一则是保存着原作的丰姿。从实质上来讲,就是要使原文的内容、风格、笔锋、韵味在译文中得以再现。翻译涉及原语(source language)与译语(target language)两种语言及其文化背景等各方面的知识,有时非常复杂。所以,译者要想收到理想的翻译效果,常常需要字斟句酌,反复推敲,仅仅懂得一些基本技巧知识是不够的,必须广泛涉猎不同文化间的差异,必须在两种语言上下工夫,乃至独具匠心。
简而言之，英语翻译与实践这门课程，让我更深层次地了解了翻译的技巧，中美文化的差异，领略到了翻译的乐趣，是很好的一次体验。
