第一篇:IGE点燃教育—好玩的英语用语篇
1.die-hard fan铁杆粉丝
Time is running out for Oprah’s die-hard fans, and they were feeling the heat Tuesday as they waited in line outside Harpo Studios in the hopes of getting into one of the final shows.对奥普拉的铁杆粉丝们来说,能观看她脱口秀的时间不多了。上周二,粉丝们在哈波演播室外面排长队,期待能参与录制最后几期脱口秀。
文中的die-hard fan就是指“铁杆粉丝”,也可以用hardcore fan或者stan来形容。Die-hard和hardcore这里都用来形容顽固、疯狂、坚定的支持者,我们在中文里常形容这类粉丝“死忠”。“游戏发烧友”就可以称为hardcore player。Die-hard用作贬义时可以指顽固分子、抵抗到底的死硬派。某些旧观念“根深蒂固”,就可以用old habits and traditions die hard来表达。
奥普拉主持的脱口秀英文为talkshow,也可以称为chat show,指的是(电视或无线电广播的)访谈节目、清谈节目。最近talent show(达人秀)选秀节目非常流行。Show这个词形象地音译为“秀”,让人想起cool翻译为“酷”的用法。它的本意为“展示”,show house就是指供买房人参观的“样品房,样板间”。
2.baby shower迎婴聚会

维多利亚·贝克汉姆终于要喜得贵女了!她和小贝已经育有三个儿子,所以,当好友伊娃·朗格利亚、发型师肯·佩夫斯等人决定在母亲节前给她办个迎婴聚会时,她只有一个要求:礼物必须全是粉色!
文中的baby shower就是“迎婴聚会”,也称为baby shower party,是专为8到9个月的临产孕妇举办的派对。派对中,亲朋好友为了缓解临产孕妇的紧张情绪,送上祝福,送婴儿用品等礼物迎接新生命的到来。
Shower在这里指的是为新娘或即将分娩的妇女等举行的“送礼会”,比如:The neighbors held a shower for the girl.(邻居为姑娘举行了一个送礼会。)为某人举办一次迎婴聚会也可以用throw someone a baby shower来表示。为准新娘、新郎举办的婚前单身派对常称为:stag/hen night,或者bachelor party/bachelorette。
3.elope私奔
“To all friends and relatives, to all colleagues, I am giving up everything and eloping with Wang Qin,” venture capitalist Wang Gongquan, 50, announced at 11:21 pm on Monday onSina Weibo,China's equivalent to Twitter.现年50岁的风险投资人王功权于本周一晚11点21分在新浪微博更新道:“各位亲友,各位同事,我放弃一切,和王琴私奔了。”
从上文中,我们可以看到“私奔”的英文就是elope这个词,其英文解释为run away secretly with one's beloved(与自己所爱的人偷偷逃走)。“与某人私奔”可以用elope/run off with somebody来表示。Elope的名词形式为elopement,例如:They have been the town talk ever since their elopement.(他们自私奔以来就一直是人们闲谈的话题。)
在网络上,有不少网友被二人为爱而不顾一切的精神所打动,惊呼原来世上还有pure love(纯粹的爱),还做出各种rosy conjecture(美好的猜测)。不过,也有人表示两人的elopement(私奔)可能只是marketing hype(市场炒作),并不值得关注。
4.film panorama电影展映
The French Film Panoramais coming back toChina in April with an extended program and the largest ever artist delegation.法国电影展映将于四月份再度在中国举行,此次影展还会有其它形式的表演项目,到访的艺术家代表团也是有史以来规模最大的。
在上面的报道中,film panorama就是“电影展”或“电影展映”。Panorama在这里的意思是“(不断变化的)一系列景象”,电影本身就是不断变化的影像。例如:the panorama of city life(都市生活千变万化的景象)。Panorama还可以表示“全景画,全景,全貌”等意思。例如:a vast panorama of the valley lies before us(山谷宽阔的全景展现在我们眼前)。
本次法国影展参展的电影包括13部feature films(剧情片)和12部short films(短片)。其中包括comedy(喜剧片)和action film(动作片)。因此在四月份,人们除了关注blockbuster(大片)和top-grossing movie(票房冠军影片)之外,也可以感受一下法国文化。所有参加展映的电影都是in French with Chinese subtitles(法语配音,中文字幕),播放结束后还有Q&A sessions(问答环节)。
5.online funeral网上葬礼
Online funerals or burials would not retain the ashes, but set up an online cemetery and memorialize the deceased by posting an obituary and funeral messages.网上葬礼不会保留骨灰,而是建立一个网上墓地,通过发布讣闻和悼念信息来纪念死者。
在上面的报道中,online funeral即“网上葬礼”。现代人的生活节奏越来越快,再加上资源稀缺,连葬礼都推出了一切从简的网上版本。Funeral除了可以表示“葬礼”外,还可以表示“(事物)的终止”,在口语中还有“麻烦事,倒霉事”的意思。请看例子:plan the funeral of the opposition party(计划取缔反对党);If you get lost in the desert, that’s your funeral.(如果你在沙漠中迷路,那你可要倒霉了。)
如果实行了网上葬礼,那么就不再需要cremation urn(骨灰盒),mourning ceremony(哀悼仪式)也可以从简,取而代之的是online tribute(网上悼念)。现在的埋葬方式主要有三种,inhumation(土葬)、cremation(火葬)和 sea-burial(海葬)。比较特别的方式有boat-coffin burial(船棺葬)、tree burial(树葬)和celestial burial(天葬),一般多见于少数民族地区。
6.BMW people BMW族
In many western cities, the subway is called the “Metro”.Many people go to work by taking a bus to the
nearest Metro station.After they get off from the Metro, they walk a few blocks before arriving at their final destination, thus the sequence: Bus Metro Walk(BMW).Those who go to work by this BMW are called BMW people.在很多西方城市,地铁都叫做Metro。很多人出门上班时都是先乘坐公交车到达最近的地铁站,出了地铁以后再走一段才到达他们的目的地。这样的出行方式就叫做BMW(公车、地铁、步行),以此方式出行的人就叫做“BMW族”。

7.Man candy草包美男
Man candy is a man who is superficially attractive to look at or a man who has an attractive appearance but who may be vapid and lack substance.Man candy(草包美男)指外表很吸引人的男子;或者徒有迷人外表,但其实很无趣又没有内涵的男子。For example:
Ken is a sweet piece of man candy, Debbie has to be told that looks are not everything.肯就是个甜美的草包美男,我们应该提醒德比,告诉她外表并不能代表一切。
8.low-carbon economy低碳经济
The National Development and Reform Commission has confirmed the government will take concrete actions to develop a low-carbon economyafter it pledged to substantially reduce carbon intensity at last year's Copenhagen Conference.国家发展与改革委员会已证实政府将采取切实行动,发展低碳经济。在去年的哥本哈根大会上,我国政府已经承诺要大幅度降低碳浓度。
在上面的报道中,low-carbon economy就是“低碳经济”。所谓低碳经济,是指在可持续发展理念指导下,通过技术创新、制度创新、产业转型、新能源开发等多种手段,尽可能地减少煤炭石油等高碳能源消耗,减少温室气体排放,达到经济社会发展与生态环境保护双赢的一种经济发展形态。
随着环境形势日益严峻,和“低碳”有关的表达也逐渐走进了我们的生活。现在倡导发展low-carbon technology(低碳技术),流行low-carbon lifestyle(低碳生活方式),通过减少carbon emission(碳排放),降低carbon intensity(碳浓度),逐步建设low-carbon society(低碳社会)。
9.dwelling narrowness蜗居
“高房价”“住房难”受到社会关注,也牵动温家宝总理的心。2月27日与网民在线交流时,温家宝坦言,自己也知道所谓“蜗居”的滋味。
蜗居,即“居住在狭小的空间”,作名词用时则指“狭小的居住空间”。这个词在由小说改编的同名电视剧横扫2009年电视荧屏的同时也一夜窜红,变得人尽皆知。
蜗居的英文怎么表达呢,电视剧的名字翻译成“Dwelling narrowness”。在日常表达中可以说“dwelling in a narrow space”。
用作名词的时侯,蜗居译为“pigeonhole”似乎更贴切一些。
10.Domestic goddess家政女皇
Domestic goddessrefers to a female who excels at baking, cooking, cleaning-housework of all sorts.She loves to please and enjoys hearing compliments about her awesomeness around the house/kitchen.She may sew, knit, and have domestic hobbies that come out well.She doesn't have to have children to be considered a domestic goddess.家政女皇指在烘焙、烹饪以及整理家务等各个方面都很出众的女性。她喜欢听到别人称赞她在家里和厨房里的成就。她可能会缝纫、会编织,还喜欢做一些类似的家务活,而且都比较擅长。家政女皇也不一定要有孩子。

三、学员体验
第一次知道IGE就是Jessica敲着寝室门进来,用着快速的中文和流利的英文介绍自己和Francis,就被吸引住了,之后加了Jessica的微信,她大二就基本上修完了学分,还兼职赚了很多钱,每天忙到凌晨,但是她的语气里一点都没有疲惫和厌恶,反而精力充沛、带人热情,她的passion and enthusiasm简直要从手机屏里涌出来,将我拥抱。

下面说说ige的教学吧。专门的教材对日常生活很有针对性,定期的更新保持语言跟上时代,不是像学校的教材那样老旧!除了常规的课堂外,还有免费的福利课,来自不同国家的外教老师会将各种兴趣知识,只可惜这学期我在津南上课,下学期排除万难一定来河川,课下同学们组织学习小组,利用约饭和玩耍的时间练习英语,即复习课堂上学到的,又随便聊聊,我找到好几个聊得来的朋友!这就是理想的上英语课的感觉,课堂上就像老师在与我聊天一样,我们是在用英语这个工具交流,而不是生硬的毫无乐趣的讲授英语知识,在这样的课堂中才可以真正学习英语这门技能,了解文化,提高交流能力;课上与课下结合,理论课和练习课结合,有着科学的教学模式,极大的提高了教学的效率!
但是说真的其实不管报什么班,最终还是靠自己,如果自己不讲不练最后也不会的到什么效果,如果你还是像听众一样在下面听,上完课就把英语丢在一边,也不跟自己的study group交流,不用不说,就算再ige也不会对自己有更大帮助。
我在初中上过一对一的英语补习,虽然是考试向的,但是上课的时候也会练到口语,在高中时上过英孚的外教口语小班(实话说这个真的有点坑,因为老师基本不备课,就是找了给外国人来跟你聊天,见识了各种各样的外国人,有些挺无语的,有些时候也很有意思。)总之上了这么多,发现英语班最多是提供一个环境,最重要的还是自己的态度,想学的自学的也能成功,没有毅力的再好的班也不行,我上面都说的是ige的环境。
另外学校为在津南的同学专门安排了校车,可以统一到市里去,然后课后返校。缺了的课可以在其他时段免费补上,负责人的act会提醒大家复习,为大家整理复习题,如果认真学的话可以收获很多。
最后,很开心能遇到ige,能成为ige大家庭中的一员,希望通过在ige的学习我能在在英语上的取得进步,更希望成为像ige前辈一样的充满活力,乐于交流,享受生活的人。

Can you change this sentence into the Passive Voice? When we change Direct Speech into Indirect Speech, we should pay attention to the changes of the tense, the persons, adverbials of time and place.What part of speech is it? 它是什么词类?
Notice this word, it is a proper noun, so no article is needed.注意这个单词,它是一个物质名词,不用冠词。
This is an abstract noun, but it is used as a common noun here.这是一个抽象名词,在这里用做普通名词。
Is the article in this sentence used correctly? Who can correct the mistake? What article should be used here , “a” or “an”?
This noun is used in a general sense, we must put the indefinite article “a” before it.Could you tell me the plural form of this word? Generally, we should replace nouns with pronouns here.一般说来,这里我们用代词来代名词。
