英语课堂提问在口语教学中的应用
众所皆知,在课堂上,每一个学生都希望引起教师的关注、尊重和赏识。如果教师能够了解每个学生的特点以及学习习惯、学习能力、学习成绩等,对学生形成恰如其分的期望,保持积极的态度,就可能产生良好的自我实现的预期效应。课堂提问在教学过程中则是一个很重要的环节,在初中口语教学中,运用恰当的课堂设疑,既能起到反馈课堂教学信息的作用,又能揭示教材的内在联系,促进知识的迁移,还能激发学生的学习兴趣,活跃课堂气氛,集中学生注意力,起到良好的教学效果。英语口语在课堂上的教学模式不仅能优化教育方式,而且还有利于培养学生的综合语言运用能力。本文阐述了英语口语的教学特点和问题,并指出初中英语口语教学还不完善,需要我们在实践中不断探索、完善。
一、初中英语口语教学模式具有的优势和特点分析
英语口语教学就是在教学中就某个语言环境设定一个具体任务,让学生在完成任务的过程中实际使用语言进行交际,通过语言的实践来学习语言。英语口语教学重点关注的是学习的过程,而不是学习的结果。英语口语活动的主要关注点是语言的意义,强调交际与有意义的活动和任务,任务的完成常常有一个非语言的结果。与在教学方式和学习方式上有所不同,传统教学方法是封闭式的学习方式,是以教师为中心的课堂,依靠有结构的、固定的问题和确定的结果;而英语口语教学倡导开放、参与式的学习方式,答案往往是开放、不确定的。在英语口语教学中,学生和教师的角色都有所转变,学生是学习的主动“参与者”、自我学习的“监控者”,以及不怕犯错的“探险者”;而教师也不再是唯一的权威,开放性的任务使得教学相得益彰,共同进步。
初中英语口语教学模式不是一种机械的语言练习,而是以“任务”为途径、动力、刺激、目标、手段和内容,学生在实践中不断应用、检验和体验已有的知识,同时激发和获取新知识,学习新技能。任务有一个非语言的结果,而语言练习只有语言结果。在学生完成任务时,他们是“语言使用者”的角色,而在做“练习”活动时,则主要是“学习者”的角色。但当学生集中完成任务时,除了传递信息,他们有时也会关注选择何种语言的形式,这时他们的角色又转化为“学习者”。
初中英语口语教学实施中对学生和教师都有较高的要求,在英语口语活动中,不仅要求学生积极参与课堂活动,真正进入语境,创造性地发挥和积极操练。同时要求学生具有一定的语言能力,还要求他们具备其他的能力,如使用信息技术的能力、与人沟通的能力等。英语口语教学活动对教师而言,难度和问题更大。在英语口语教学中,教师充当的角色应该是组织者、合作人、仲裁人、调节人、记录者、调查员等。教师的课程任务设计要充分,组织课堂要有序。实施各项活动要耐心。在任务完成之后,教师对学生和任务都要做出客观理性的评价和评估。因此,英语口语教学的课堂上教师需要充当数种角色,这对教师的专业知识素养和职业素质是个综合考验。并且,从任务设计到结果评价,整个英语口语教学活动都需要教师花费更多的时间与精力,这无疑加重了教师的负担,对他们来说是很大的挑战。
二、初中英语口语教学模式实施过程中容易出现的错误倾向
英语口语教学理论是在我国还属比较新颖的教学理论,《教学大纲》和教材并没有有效跟进,与之相适应。因此,在教学中只能不断摸索,课堂教学效果体现不够充分,应注意选用能真正体现英语口语教学理论内涵与特色的教材。然而,在许多老师的英语口语教学设计中,只追求任务设计形式,使得学生的任务负担过重,一节课可能要完成好几个任务,一味向学生提供任务而忽视其他问题。一些老师只是追求活动,不重视语言知识,于是就想方设法地设计活动,让课堂活动起来,结果让学生的能力成了无源之水,逐渐枯竭。因此,在实际操作过程中,如果教师忽视任务前的准备工作,即对语言知识的讲解,学生连基本的语言都不会,更不可能去运用语言了,任务完成的质量就有一定的问题。在英语口语语言教学课堂实施中容易产生如下一些问题,应尽量避免:
第一,初中英语口语学习是以学生为主体的语言习得活动,但是在教学中有时学生的主体地位却没有得到实现。
第二,初中英语口语教学在课堂实施中会受到客观环境条件的限制,首先是时间的问题,是一项十分耗时的教学活动。此外,在英语口语教学中,常常需要学生利用现代信息技术等,这就要求有一定的硬件设施,这也不是很多家庭和学校能马上解决的。
三、对于改进和加强英语口语语言教学模式的思考和建议
首先,实施英语口语活动的同时,不能忽略对语言知识的讲解和语言能力的培养,它们是运用语言完成交际任务的基础和前提。否则,英语口语教学将失去意义,可能造成学生“学了很久,还只会那么几句”的现象。
其次,要恰当地使用英语口语活动,避免过度使用和过于频繁的、不适当使用。要加深对英语口语教学的理解,不是完全抛弃传统教学法,而是用英语口语教学的优势弥补它的不足。
最后,评价考核要多元化、多层次、多种形式,如教师建立评价考核表,教师要清晰明确考核内容、考核目的、考核输入物、考核任务的组织和考核测试,等等;学生和学生间评价,师生互评等。要对学生在任务活动中情感因素和非情感因素诸方面进行评价。
综上,初中英语口语教学法是基于认知、动机和功能理论基础,有广阔的潜力和前景。但是目前它的应用还处于摸索阶段,而且对它还有不同的理解,实践中也有各自不同的做法。课堂教学中,教师要紧密结合教学内容和学生实际,抓住学生心理的共性和个性,因材施教、因势利导,调动起每一个学生的积极性,让他们在轻松愉快的心态下学习知识、发展智力、培养能力。总之,在课堂上要善于洞察学生心理的变化,采取恰当、有效的方法,消除不健康的心理障碍,培养良好的心理素质,提高学生的学习成绩。
