Good morning, everyone. My name is XXX.Today, I’d like to talk about the Christmas Day.What we can do on the Christmas Day?
Christmas is a holiday celebrated every year on December 25.As we know Christmas is a Christian holiday. But Christmas is also a social and family holiday. It is a festival of goodwill, a time for family, friends, food, and gift-giving.During the Christmas season friends get together and go from house to house singing Christmas songs. They do this for fun and to bring the spirit of Christmas to the people in each house. Then on Christmas Eve-the night before Christmas Day-children put stockings at the end their beds before they go to sleep.Their parents usually tell them that Father Christmas will come during the night. Some people even put up stockings for their pets as well.Christmas Day always begins before breakfast.Children wake up very early, and can’t wait to open the presents in their stockings and under the tree. They wake up the other family members, calling,”Merry Christmas!” After all the presents are opened, the family will usually have a delicious breakfast. They spend the day playing with the new toys and visiting their
relatives and friends. They greet each other with a hug and say, “Merry Christmas!”
The origin of Christmas Day
Do you know why we celebrate the Christmas Day? Once upon a time, a man told people of the coming of a boy.He said that this boy would save his people.Every year, parents would tell their children about the boy who would save his people. They were waiting for the boy, but he didn’t come. Finally, years later, the boy’s story began. There was a man named Joseph and his wife named Mary. It’s said that one night an angel came to Mary and told her she was to have this special boy.The angel also came to Joseph and told him the same thing. At that time, everyone had to go back to their own hometown to be counted.Mary and Joseph had to travel before the baby was born.It was a long journey. They didn’t arrive until very late one night. They looked for a place to stay, but all the places were full. They didn’t know where to go.At last, the owner of a house said they could stay in the barn. That night Mary gave birth to this very special boy.Soon after the baby was born, angels appeared to some shepherds in a field near the town. They said they had
something to tell them. The special boy had been born. The shepherds went to see the special boy that same night. They asked Mary and Joseph what to call the boy.Joseph said the name of the boy was Jesus.People called him Jesus Christ because Christ means to save.Years later, people still celebrate Jesus’ birthday. They call it Christmas, which comes from the name Christ. The different Christmas customs in different country
The Ornamental of Christmas
Westerners use red;green;white these three colors for the Christmas colors. When Christmas comes each household will be used to decorate the Christmas colors.Christmas flowers and Christmas candles are red.Green is the Christmas tree.It is one of the main Christmas ornaments. And the tree is made by redwood or cypress tree which is pyramid and evergreen. The tree is decorated with colorful lanterns, gifts and paper flowers. It also lights the Christmas candles.Exist side by side is the red and white Santa Claus. He is the most popular Christmas activity characters.Western children go to bed on Christmas Eve prior to the fireplace or put a pillow next to the socks, waiting for Santa Claus to fall asleep after they put on the socks in a gift.In
the West, to play Santa Claus is also a custom. The Food of Christmas
Christmas is also Europe and the United States who focus on the family sat around the Christmas tree, the festive meal together. The custom of eating turkey Christmas dinner began in 1620.This custom is popularly in the U.S.But the British Christmas dinner is roast goose, not turkey.Austrian Italian people like to droves to the restaurant to eat a big meal with their families on Christmas Eve.The Christmas dinner has many foods like turkeys, wax chicken, leg of pork meat and schnitzel. When they eat dinner they also drink wine. They all have a good time at that time.Who is the Father Christmas?
Every year the parents will tell the children Father Christmas will come in the night and give them the Christmas gifts. And the children all believe it.But in fact the gifts are given by their parents.Father Christmas is a very kind-hearted man.He lands on top of each house all over the world and climbs down the chimney. He then fills the stockings with Christmas presents. But who is Father Christmas? Can a man really climb down the
chimney of every house in the world in a single night? Of course not.Father Christmas is based on a real person in history. In Turkey, there once was a man named Saint Nicholas. He was a very shy person. He wanted to give money to the poor. But he did not want them to know that the money came from him.He didn’t know what to do.It is said that one day he climbed to the top of a house and dropped some money down a chimney. It went into a stocking that a little girl had hung by the fireplace to dry!Even though Father Christmas is no longer living, his spirit of generosity lives on today.Think of Christmas Day.Christmas Day is one of the most popular festivals. It is not only celebrated in western countries. In many Asian countries, such as India, Japan and Korea, which are made this their international festival. Our Chinese also celebrates this holiday. On Christmas Eve we will send apples as a gift to each other. The apples mean safety. And in the Christmas Day we also make many difference ways to celebrate it.For example we will make some programs as singing and dancing in the class meeting. At the same time some of our traditional festival is forgot by us.In my opinion, I think as we celebrate Christmas Day we should not forget our traditional festival. And the government also notes this.During these days the government should take some measures to make us celebrate the traditional festivals. That borings us to the end of our presentation

Introduction
Christmas is short for 'Christ's Mass'.A Mass is a kind of Church service.Christmas, like our Spring Festival, has a meaning in itself.Christmas Day, which is on December 25, is the birthday of Jesus Christ--the son of God.That's why it is called Christmas.Christmas is a religious festival and is the greatest holiday in Christianity world. On that day, Christians would get together with their families to commemorates the birthday of Jesus. But nowadays, the religious meaning of Christmas has become less emphasized. To many families, it is just a time of family reunion and the ever-exciting present-giving.Traditions Of Christmas 1.Preparation for the Christmas cake: This was an English tradition which started centuries ago.On Christmas eve, plum porridge was served to the people. As years passed, various other things like dry fruits, honey and spices were used.Soon this porridge got replaced with the Christmas cake.Christmas cakes are made using eggs, butter, confections, fruits, etc.Today a Christmas cake is an integral part of a Christmas menu.2.Sending gifts to loved ones: This tradition comes from the story of the three wise men who got gifts for baby Jesus on Christmas.Every Christmas, gifts are exchanged among loved ones, especially children. The story of Santa Claus also comes from this tradition.3.Decorating the Christmas tree: Christmas tree is one of the most famous traditions.Ordinarily, people put some evergreens such as a pine tree in or out of the house and decorate it with Christmas lights or colorful decorations, often they will put an angel or a big star on the top of the tree.4.Lighting up the Christmas candle: This refers to the tradition of placing a lighted candle outside houses during the Christmas season.A candle signifies hope as it brings light even to the darkest room.In the earlier times, when Christians were persecuted, they were not allowed to practice prayers.Hence, a single candle used to be placed outside the house as a sign that Christian prayers were being conducted inside.5.Singing Christmas carols: It refers to the age-old custom of enchanting a number of traditional Christmas songs during the Christmas season. It adds to the joy and fun to the atmosphere.Different Christmas hymns or carols like The First Noel, Jingle Bells, Joy to the world, etc are sung every Christmas as a part of the Christmas celebration.6.Making of Cribs: This is yet another age-old tradition of Christmas.A crib refers to the Nativity Scene that is prepared using small statues. The first crib ever was made outside a church of St.Francis of Assisi for children to show them how the Nativity scene was like.Since then, this tradition became very popular.7.Distributing Christmas candies: This is one of the most wonderful traditions of all.Christmas candies are distributed to neighbors during the Yuletide season. On the day of Christmas, all misunderstandings and grudges are forgotten and the community comes together to celebrate the birth of Christ. These traditions have been carried out for decades, yet they are celebrated with more and more exuberance each year. The level of excitement has never gone down.It just keeps getting better and better with time.8.Christmas color Red, green and white are Christmas colors, when Christmas comes, every family will use the color to decorate their houses, The Christmas flower and Christmas candle are red, while the Christmas tree is green, and the Christmas tree is the main decoration.9.Santa Claus Santa Claus is most popular in Christmas activities. In western countries, on Christmas Eve, before children go to bed, they will put a sock in front of the fireplace or pillow side waiting for Santa Claus to put the gifts into it.And in western countries Play Santa Claus is also a custom.10.Christmas stocking Long time ago, Christmas stocking was a pair of red socks.Since the Christmas stocking is used to hold gifts, the kids like it very much, they will hang their socks beside their beds, expecting their gifts the following day.The social impacts of Christmas
1.Influence on emotion Christmas in the west has always emphasized the ethical relationship and on Christmas day people will get together as a family unit to share the family happiness. In the Western country ,Christmas day is also regarded as a family reunification and jubilation's holiday. And People usually will arrange a Christmas tree at home.Night of the Christmas, people will gather round the Christmas tree to sing and dance amusedly. This provides them with a good chance to stay with the families and friends. On Christmas, various recreational activities, the exchange of gifts and Christmas greetings can maintain and consolidate the family affection ,friendship and love. For example, parents will buy their child Christmas toy, which can promote the affection and communication between parents and children.Besides, for individuals, it is a good chance to relax physically and mentally.2.Impact on economy Christmas has positive impetus to the economy especially in the period of economic downturn.Usually, for countries which celebrate Christmas, Christmas is the biggest annual economic stimulus. And Christmas has become a major event for many retailers.Almost in all retail areas, sales will increase dramatically as people will purchase Christmas presents ,glittering decorations and buy food for the Christmas dinner.Stores will take the opportunity to launch new products at a high price and consumers will make use of this time to buy some bargains. In the United States, the Christmas shopping period extends to the beginning of Thanksgiving Day.Selling the products at a discount during Christmas ,The stores can sell their overstocked commodities and the economic impact of this phenomenon will continue after the holiday.Besides, in the north American,Christmas holidays is also a movie season and television production companies tend to launch the year's most anticipated films to win a good box office and Oscar entry ticket during the holiday, through which the company can make a big sum of money.3.Impact on culture Religion Globalization Christmas, the original religious holiday, has developed into a global festival. The religious meanings of Christmas have integrated with diversified cultural all over the world gradually. Some of them developed on the base of religious culture and became a more rich and colorful Christmas religious culture.Others has become secularized, commercialized, and even politicalized step by step.Single diversity Religious mystery of Christmas gradually fade, which is related to the scientific development and commodity economy.under the condition of market economy , merchants regard the Christmas as a big chance to make great profit, and they will use various promotions to attract consumers to purchase goods.Christmas makes people receive more reasons for holiday consumption ,at the same time, it provides more topics for holiday chat– the consumer culture. The pluralistic orientation of Christmas culture makes the world more wonderful. The spread in Asia These two years, Christmas has enjoyed a great popularity in many Asian countries. The Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Christmas carol have received much attention in Asia imperceptibly. This western traditional religious festival has changed into a fashion which lots of young people praise highly in Asia.Behind the Christmas, there are strong influence of western culture as well as the push of commercial interests. As regard to China, more and more young people are keen on celebrating the Christmas.Over the past 20 years, the Christmas in china has been into the streets and the stores, encouraging hundreds of millions of Chinese young people to take Christmas as a carnival and consume crazily.Actually, the popularity of Christmas in Asia arouse a fierce debate ,especially in India.“The popularity of foreign festival more or less weakens a Nation's centripetal force ,”One expert said.An Chinese scholar also said , “As far as I am concerned, I'm not against Christmas. But from the point of view of scholars, it is sad that Christmas day is so hot in China , which reflects that the Chinese traditional culture is facing a great challenge. And in a way ,this will weaken the identity of the Chinese nation, make Chinese don't like Chinese increasingly and naturally weaken national centripetal force.” As for me ,I do not oppose the Christmas. Our Chinese people celebrating Christmas does not mean that we suddenly have a religious faith and adore western culture. We simply want to contact our friends and stay with family members and relax ourselves through this holiday. This festival is only our excuse to get together, an excuse for us to relax.Besides, our Chinese have our own special ways to celebrate the holiday. For example, we Chinese send apples to friends and families on Christmas Eve.In fact ,our Chinese people love Christmas just because it is fun and interesting and is full of fairy tale. So, don't crusade against Christmas in the cultural level, just enjoy the lively atmosphere. Conclusion
From what have mentioned above, we can understand that Christmas itself has special meanings and there are many interesting Christmas traditions.Besides, the Christmas has a great impact on emotion , economy and culture. And with its popularity in Asia, many people fear that this will weaken the national centripetal force. However, we must know that Christmas is just a happy festival and it just a process of intercultural communication. So we should view the Christmas soberly, objectively and profoundly.Reference

1.圣诞节的由来
The origin of Christmas Day.
2.平安夜(Christmas Eue)
December 24th.
