对于求职者来说,一份好的简历如同叩开外企大门的“敲门砖”,其重要性不言而喻。但是,仅凭简历就想获得面试机会也并非易事,因为简历通常只是列表式地罗列求职者的相关信息,内容常常显得单薄或缺乏生气,不够吸引人。为了弥补简历的这一不足之处,求职者可以在投递简历的同时,附上一封声情并茂的cover letter(求职信),这样不仅能增强求职者的竞争力,还能显示出求职者应聘的诚意与认真的态度。本期笔者就具体介绍一下cover letter的撰写框架和注意事项,并提供几篇范例,供求职者参考。撰写框架

Cover letter通常包括四个部分,求职者可在这四个部分中分别介绍如下内容。

第一部分:求职者应开门见山地说明自己要应聘的职位,同时简述自己是如何获得这一招聘信息的。第二部分:在这一部分,首先,求职者应强调自己对应聘职位充满浓厚兴趣,渴望获得这一职位;其次,求职者应说明自己符合该应聘职位的要求;最后,求职者可简要介绍自己与应聘职位相关的学历水平、经历、成就等,说明自己能够为公司作出贡献、创造价值。

第三部分:在这一部分,求职者应着重强调自己具备应聘职位所需的专业知识、技能和工作经验。为增强说服力,求职者也可列举实例说明。例如,在表述自己具备会议组织能力时,求职者可简要介绍一下自己曾组织过何种大型会议等。

第四部分:求职者应表述自己希望获得面试机会的热切心情。同时,求职者还应说明自己何时方便参加面试,并表明自己愿意在面试时提供更多相关信息。

注意事项

对求职者来说,cover letter不同于其他普通信函,它可能直接关系到求职者能否最终获得面试机会。所以,求职者在写cover letter时一定要小心、谨慎,需特别注意以下五个方面。

1.礼貌得体。在写cover letter时,求职者可首先通过致电招聘公司等方式,尽可能地获得将来读cover letter的人的姓名,这样在信的开头,便可用“Dear +名字”的形式称呼对方。若实在无法了解到对方姓名,也要尽可能地询问到对方的商务头衔,用“Dear +头衔”的方式称呼对方,例如“Dear Recruitment Manager”或“Dear Human Resources Manager”等,这些称呼要比“Dear Sir”或“Dear Madam”更恰当。

2.态度诚恳。求职者应针对应聘公司的特点和职位要求有针对性地写cover letter,信的字里行间要透露出你想为应聘公司服务的意愿,多表述自己能为公司做什么,少讲述自己通过该应聘职位能获得什么好处。求职者在写信的过程中,一定要杜绝出现错字连篇的现象,否则不但会给人轻率和缺乏诚意的印象,还会使对方对求职者的能力产生怀疑。

3.实事求是、恰如其分地介绍自己的能力和特长。适度的谦虚是美德,但过分的谦虚是缺乏自信的表现,只会让自己错失良机。因此,求职者在写cover letter时,应对自己的能力有个准确的估量,然后实事求是地予以陈述。只有自己树立了信心,才能获得别人的认同和赞赏。但同时,求职者也要注意,信中切忌出现过分吹嘘的话,例如“我能适应各种工作”“听说贵公司最近效益不太好,我完全有能力改变这种状况”以及“我做过几项课题,贵公司遇到的此类技术问题,我一定能够解决”等。刚出校门的大学生尤其要注意这一点,虽然大学生有一定的理论基础,但尚缺乏实践经验,所以在cover letter中要尽量避免使用“一定” “肯定” “第一”“绝对”“完全可以”“保证能做到”等大话。

4.篇幅适当。如果cover letter太短的话,可能无法清晰表达出求职者的想法,也会使求职者显得诚意不足;但如果cover letter过长,又会有冗繁之嫌,可能引起读信者的反感。一般来说,cover letter以A4纸的半页至一页篇幅为宜。如果求职者确实有重要的内容需要详加阐述,也不宜超过两页。

5.切忌一信多投。“一信多投”是cover letter的大忌。求职者要针对不同的应聘公司和职位要求写不同内容的cover letter。如果求职者抱着“以不变应万变”的态度,将一封cover letter重复地投递到不同公司,可能会让招聘公司认为你偷懒且诚心不够,极易被拒。

1、我们为什么要聘用你(测试你的沉静与自信)给一个简短、有礼貌的回答:“我能做好我要做的事情”、“我相信自己,我想得到这份工作”。

2、为什么你想到这里来工作(这应该是你喜爱的题目)因为你在此前进行了大量的准备,你了解这家公司。组织几个原因,最好是简短而切合实际的。

3、这个职位最吸引你的是什么(这是一个表现你对这个公司、这份工作看法的机会)回答应使考官确认你具备他要求的素质。

到外企面试的“八项注意”

面试是每一个现代人找工作时都必须迈过的一道坎。如今,有不少人想去外企求职,但又苦于不清楚面试时应该注意哪些问题,而不敢成行。本文特意细数了外企面试官的八大忌讳,希望对大家有所帮助。

一忌迟到失约

迟到和失约是面试中的大忌。这不但会表现出求职者没有时间观念和责任感,更会令面试官觉得求职者对这份工作没有热忱,印象分自然大减。守时不但是美德,更是面试时必须做到的事。因此,应提前10至15分钟或准时到达。如因有要事迟到或缺席,一定要尽早打电话通知该公司,并预约另一个面试时间。另外,匆匆忙忙到公司,心情还未平静便要进行面试,自然表现也会大失水准。

二忌数落别人

切勿在面试时当着面试官数落现任或前任雇主和同事的不是。这样做,不但得不到同情,只会令人觉得你记仇、不念旧情和不懂得与别人相处,反而更会招来面试官的反感。三忌说谎邀功

面试时说谎,伪造“历史”,或将不属于自己的功劳“据为己有”,后果可大可小。即使现在能瞒天过海,也难保谎言将来有被揭穿的一日。因此,面试时应实话实说,虽可扬长避短,却也不能以谎话代替事实。

四忌准备不足

七忌过多谈论前任工作

有的应聘者,在遇到这样的问题时,总是显得很焦急,颇有想一蹴而就的欲望,在回答问题,侃侃而谈什么“贵单位是我的理想所在”、“这个单位条件好,有发展前途”、“这是个举世闻名的企业”等,可要知道,你现在去应聘的单位再好也未必适合你于此谋生择业。因此,一味地赞颂是不明智的,只会使对方产生反感,认为你花拳秀腿没有真本事,溜须拍马阿谀奉承却未见有实实在在的内容。其实,无论你此前对该单位是否有所了解,客观地说一说你的观感和印象,是有益的;而当你要说到对方的弊端或缺陷时,不要一味否定,而后缀以“若在××方面再加以注意也许会有较大的改善”会让人觉得你有观察力,又有宽宏大量的气度和改善面貌的欲望和能力,这是会受欢迎的。

你如何看待你所应聘的岗位?

通常,各个岗位在责任、权利、利益、分工、合作、技能、技巧等方面,都有明显的要求,而这往往是区别于其他岗位的,每个岗位都有其对员工的特殊性,在专业化日益增强的今天,“万金油”式的人越来越不被看好。所以,你切不可说“我能干这也能干那”,而应明晰在管理的半径、层面、空间上是有着很大差别的。有人往往在此时急求事功,在未详细了解岗位的具体要求情况下仓促应允,以为自己什么都干得了,这不明智,而且容易招致面试方反感。该岗位需要的所有内容,正是面试者想从你这里听到的,你也只需照此行事即可。你如何证明自己是最优秀的?

这是一个不大好回答的问题,你说自己是最优秀的,会被认为是夜郎自大,而你说自己不是最优秀的,又会被认为是缺乏自信心,你回避不答,则可能被认为是没有考虑或是对面试方不够尊重。这时,你最好回答“以我的职业素养,所受过的良好教育,以及此前在××行业、××企业从事××工作的经验的背景,能够胜任此工作,并能在不久后脱颖而出,为单位的发展尽力”,来应对此问题,显示你的应变能力和良好的谈判(或谈话)技巧。你有何业余爱好?

如果一个人下班后就知道柴米油盐,那么他应该是个家务型的人,在如今的紧张生活中,大概被看做是缺乏情趣和格调的人,也是个与众格格不入难以沟通的人。这种人不大重视情操的培养与陶冶,习惯于单位—家庭的线性生活方式,可过于倾慕在业余生活上的人,也会有太爱吃喝玩乐不务正业的嫌疑。设想,如果你看足球比赛时经常向场内投掷酒瓶子,可能没有人会说你是个社会安全因素。因此,在回答这类问题时,应该不温不火,既要显示自己的情调与修养,又能展现自己的事业心,以此为原则说明实际的情况。

你的住处离单位距离如何?

这也许是在看你对待上班时间以及需要加班时的想法。如果这真是你理想中的单位,而你的住处离此单位又较远,应该在回答上体现出遵守单位规定的作息时间,按时上下班,如需要经常加班则可以想办法住得近些,不会影响工作也不会给单位增添麻烦。

在外企面试中,主考官除了就应聘者目前的工作、所应聘的职位、应聘者的职业规划、薪水期望、个性特征、专业技能、业务能力、团队合作等方面提出问题以外,还可能问及一些令人措手不及、意想不到的问题,譬如:“How many years do you need to earn RMB100,000?”“Don’t you think you are overqualified?”等。主考官问这类问题的目的不仅是要考察应聘者的临场反应能力和灵活应变的思维方式,更重要的是对应聘者的各方面素质和性格特征有一个尽可能全面和深层次的了解,以进一步确定应聘者是否符合公司需求。由于这类问题很难预测,而且不易回答,故笔者称之为“面试刁钻难题”。主考官通常会从应聘者的信心(Confidence)、雄心(Ambition)、忠心(Loyalty)、细心(Carefulness)、用心(Dedication)等五方面提出相关的刁钻难题,在此笔者将就这几方面常见的难题进行剖析,并提供应答思路和参考回答。

应聘者的信心(Confidence)

① As we have many candidates for this position, we will consider your application after you’ve worked a three-month unpaid trial period.What do you think?

② If this were your first annual review with our company, what would I be telling you right now?

这两个问题是为了考察应聘者的自信心而设置的。经笔者调查发现,针对第一个问题“你能否不带薪水为公司工作三个月?”,多数应届毕业生给出的回答是肯定的,即接受主考官的要求。显然,这一回答不够妥善。根据合同法,公司应当给员工的劳动提供报酬,否则违反法律。当然在面试时,不必这样生硬作答。应聘者应当自信地指出自己的劳动会给公司创造价值,获得报酬也是理所当然的。第二个问题谈到如果面试考官要对你进行第一次年终评估,你希望他会对你说些什么。对于这种自我评价式的问题,应聘者也应当以自信、积极的方式如实说明自己所做出的成就以及应得到的奖赏,不必过分谦逊。

① I’m afraid I can’t work unpaid for that long.If you give me a chance to work for you, I’m sure that my work and experience would bring benefit to your company.If I could contribute to the company, then I should naturally be compensated for my work.② You’d be thanking me for a job well done and would say that you look forward to continuing to see good work from me.Moreover, I would anticipate that you would explain how you really appreciated my spending extra time on some key projects.应聘者的雄心(Ambition)

② Why did you stay in your last job so long?

公司在招聘职员时,尤其是招聘销售人员时,有时会问及以上刁钻难题来了解应聘者是否具有雄心壮志。在回答这类问题时,应聘者切忌过于谦虚。例如,针对第一个问题“挣十万元钱,你需要多少年的时间?”,应聘者首先应当为自己设置一个较高的目标,然后为实现目标制定一个计划,接着通过执行计划来实现目标。应聘者应该向主考官充分展示自己的远大抱负、胆识和魄力。在回答第二个问题时,应聘者应当说明自己多年未更换工作的原因并非是安于现状,不愿意接受新事物或学习新知识,而是因为这些年一直都在学习、进步,并一直在承担新的、具有挑战性的工作。应该着重强调自己积极上进,善于学习,并且具有雄心壮志。① I think I can make this money within one year.If you offer me this job, first I will set a relatively high sales target, based on which I will make a sales plan.Then I will apply

myself to the plan so that I can achieve or even exceed my sales target.With the annual profit, I will also be rewarded with a certain amount of money, which I think won’t be less than RMB100,000.② I was in my last job over seven years.During that time, I completed an advanced technical degree and was assigned to other departments twice in six months.As a result, I learned additional skills that are normally not related to that particular job.应聘者的忠心(Loyalty)

① Why have you changed jobs so frequently?

② Don’t you think you are overqualified?

③ What would you do if one of our competitors offered you a position?

④ How long would you plan to stay with our company?

⑤ What do you think you can learn from this job?

绝大多数公司都希望自己招聘的员工能够效忠于公司,能够长久地为公司服务,除非员工由于自身原因无法胜任工作。因此,主考官有时会通过问及以上这类问题来了解应聘者对公司的忠心程度。对于第一个问题“为何频繁换工作?”,应聘者应当尽可能说明自己频繁跳槽是客观因素引起的,而不是为了寻求更高的薪水、更好的待遇。对于第二和第三个问题,应聘者要突出自己对所应聘的职位和公司的浓厚兴趣,说明自己绝非朝三暮

四、频繁跳槽之辈。对于第四和第五个问题,应聘者应当强调自己在工作期间能够持续为公司带来利益、创造价值,同时也可以提及自己能够学习到新的知识和技能。

① My frequent job changes over the last five years have been due to the rapid changes in my profession.My jobs have been based on government contracts, and over the past few years there have been changes in the government policies, which caused some companies’ contracts to be canceled.Because of this, I had to quit several times.Because your business is based mostly on consumer products, and not on government contracts, I welcome the opportunity to work in a stable setting like yours.② Quite frankly, I can do this job.If the fear is that I am going to be bored, be assured I am dedicated and I don’t start a project that I don’t complete.Besides, I am the kind of person who is able to multitask.You’ll get more than your money’s worth.③ I’d say no.I’m not interested in other players in this industry.I like your brand of shoes a lot because of their superior quality and unique design.Actually, I won a number of races wearing them in college.Because of my positive experience with your products, I know I’d be good at selling them to customers.④ Well, that’s hard to answer.If I got this position, I’d say I would stay in this company as long as my work and effort are still valuable to the company and improving to myself.⑤ My own personal measure of growth in a job is new skills and knowledge learned and new understanding about the industry gained.As long as I can see this type of growth, I consider myself valuable to your company.应聘者的细心(Carefulness)

How careful are you?

像这类看似简单但又具描述性的问题,往往出乎应聘者的意料。多数人的回答往往简单笼统,无法让主考官信服。例如,笔者有一位朋友的职位是外企财务主管,他在招聘一名财务助理时,对参加应聘的二十多人提了以上问题。绝大多数人的回答如出一辙,除了再三强调自己的认真,似乎别无可说。只有一名应聘者以具有说服力的例子说明自己是如何细心。由于其

与众不同的回答,最终他从众多竞争者中脱颖而出,获得这一职位。后来据笔者的朋友透露,这名员工在工作当中确实很细心,很少出错。通过以上例子,这一问题的回答思路不言而喻。I’m very careful and detail-oriented.I’d like to give you an example.Once, I spent a whole night checking a sixty-slide PPT for a very important school project.I read it again and again until I couldn’t find any typos and grammar mistakes in it.Later I found that I had read it at least twenty times.The PPT was flawless, which helped the school win the project.应聘者的用心(Dedication)

① Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?

② Do you plan to have children?

③ Do you have any children?

涉及个人隐私的问题也是面试里的一个雷区。虽然专业的HR人员不会过问应聘者的私人生活,但是雇主总是希望更多地了解应聘者。如果不回答这类问题也不必直接拒绝,那样或许会失去一个机会。其实,面对这类敏感问题,应聘者可以尽量把问题转移到自己对工作的重视和热情上来,强调自己会用心工作,以打消雇主的顾虑。

① Yes, I do.But my work is very important to me, so I make sure nothing interferes with it.I put 100% of my effort into my work, so my relationship won’t affect my work performance.② Currently I don’t have a plan for that.But if I do decide to have children, I wouldn’t let it affect my work.Becoming a parent is important, but my career is certainly very important to me, too.I plan on putting all of my effort into this job and this company.③ Yes, I do.But I keep my family life separate from my work life so that I can put all my effort into my job.I’m flexible when it comes to travel and late hours.以上问题的应答思路和回答仅供参考。应聘者在面试过程中倘若碰到此类问题,应保持沉着、冷静,思路清晰。回答问题时,应聘者应尽可能在了解主考官问题意图的基础上来组织自己的观点,表达的理由要充分、流畅,合情合理。
