摘 要:随着国际交流的普及,人们需要进行商务英语写作。本文从商务英语写作的特点、语用原则和写作方法三方面进行了探讨,最后总结了结论。

一、引言

世界经济全球化的发展,我国加入世贸组织后,对外开放的程度不断深入,外经外贸业务活动日益频繁,要求我们对商务用途英语写作进行研究。商务英语写作目的是用英语进行商务沟通和交流,是写作学、语言学、逻辑学和经济学等学科交叉形成的一个新的边缘学科,如今得到广泛的研究和发展。商务英语是介于特定商务技术语言和普通大众语言间的“中介性语言”。

商务英语写作是以英语这种特定的语言作为表达手段来反映经济生活和经济活动的商务写作,它首先应符合一般英语写作的基本要求和商务写作的基本要求,除此以外,它还应具备自身的写作特点、写作要求和写作方法。本文将从商务英语写作的特点、语用原则和写作方法三方面进行探讨,最后总结结论。

二、商务英语写作特点

商务英语写作在语言上的基本特点就在于简洁,它是商务英语写作的灵魂所在。在商务写作中,每一词、每一句均实词实意,都应当字斟句酌。为此,其所写句子,简洁者较冗长者更为有力,直言者较隐晦者更为达意。商务英语写作具体的语言特点和要求应包含以下三个方面。

(1)简明扼要。商务英语写作与一般的记叙式和描写式文章不同,它不需要大量的修辞来增强其写作效果,相反,毫无意义的堆砌词藻或运用许多修辞只能给商务文函带来负面效果。商务英语写作中的用词应当力求简练明了,应删除一切冗词废话。

(2)准确具体。商务英语写作非同一般,如果一个词或一句话的意义不明确,就有可能给公司或企业带来损失。因此,商务英语写作的用词一般要求准确、具体,语言的含义应清楚,词语的内涵和外延应明确,意义笼统甚至模糊不清的词语以及似是而非的象征和隐喻往往会引起误解甚至误导,在写作中应删除。

(3)行文果断。商务英语写作要求坦率直言,态度明确。因此,在写作时不应出现意义模糊的词,不应使用态度不明确甚至胆怯、畏缩的用语,这样的词句不但造成意义上的不明确,而且影响行文的力度和效果。

三、商务英语写作的语用原则

语言学家认为,应用语言至少有两套规则:一是结构规则,即语音、词汇、语法等;二是使用规则,即决定使用语言是否得体的诸因素。一句完全合乎语法的话,用于不恰当的场合,不符合说话者的身份,或者违反当时当地的社会风俗习惯,就达不到交际的目的,有时甚至造成意想不到的后果。因此,合作原则、礼貌原则和关联原则以及经济原则是商务英语写作的重要语用原则。

四、商务英语写作方法

商务英语写作的形式较多,标准的如业务往来信函、简洁的报告、商品的描述、经济评论、短小的通知和备忘录等的写作。但是较为常见的主要有便笺(note)、备忘录(memo)、商务书信(business letter)和商务报告(business report)四种形式。其中便笺和备忘录属于较短的商务英语写作形式,书信和报告属于较长的商务英语写作形式。以下就这四种形式及写作方法分别进行阐述。(1)便笺(note):便笺即留言条,其使用范围较广,多用于亲朋好友及熟悉的同事之间。其书写格式、措词、称呼以及语气均比较随便、简单,用词多为口语常用词汇,句子结构一般不太复杂,只要把事情交待清楚即可。(2)备忘录(memo):备忘录是一种“录以备忘”的公文,它仅限于企业或公司内部各部门之间使用,而不能用于公司或企业之间的交流。其目的主要在于传递信息、通知决定、说明工作程序等。它所涉及的一般都是一些需要迅速处理的事情,因此属于随时用随时写的文件,是一种非正式的文函。行文要求清楚明白、简练客观,语气必须坚定,不必在结尾签名,只需要把事情交待清楚即可。(3)商务书信(business letter):商务书信是商务英语写作中最常见的一种形式。就其基本格式而言,商务书信与一般的英文书信基本相同。它也是由信头(heading)、封内地址(inside address)、称呼(salutation)、正文(body)、信尾祝词(complimentary close)和签名(signature)几部分构成。(4)商务报告(business report):商务报告也是商务活动和商务往来中的一种重要的交流方式,它主要用于向上级机关汇报工作、反映情况和提出建议等,它使得人们有机会在较短的时间内获得大量的信息。常见的商务报告主要包括工作报告、情况报告、建议报告、回答问题报告、报送文件和物件报告。

五、结论

在商务英语写作中,应按照商务英语写作的一般规律和特点、写作常识、方法和技巧进行。商务英语写作要求语言简练、用语准确、态度坚定、表达清晰,应针对不同的人、不同的场合、不同的目的运用不同的语言和语气,写不同的文章。这些对于从事商务活动、学习商务知识的人来说都具有十分重要的意义。
