第一篇：新托福阅读插入句子题详解
在新托福阅读的考查中，每篇文章必会出现一类题，叫做“insert text questions”，即插入句子题(简称插入题)。考试中，考生会遇到一句话，问该句插入文中哪里最合适。如下面例题：

按照ets官方指南上的解析，这类题型重点考查英文句子间的逻辑语义关系，即英文中句子与句子是如何衔接在一起的。所以，只要掌握了英语句子间的衔接手法(cohesive devices)，这种问题便可迎刃而解。
那么，英文句子有哪些衔接手法呢？
主要分为以下四种。
1.代词(pronouns)
具体包括人称代词、指示代词和关系代词等(personal, demonstrative, relative, etc)。在上下句的关联中，代词是最为紧密的一类词。当作者再次谈及上句相关话题时，为了避免重复，遵循语言学的最简单化原理，作者会用代词指代该话题词。例如，speaking a foreign language is an enormous asset in the modern world.this is why so many junior high schools are now offering language classes。
today's teachers are faced with a stark choice.they must decide whether to teach in a way that helps student pass standardized exams or teach in a way that actually helps students learn。
2.定冠词the + 名词(specific articles+nouns)
名词所指对象第一次出现时，用不定冠词a连接，当后句再次提及该名词对象时，为了表示它和前一句名词是同一关系，会用定冠词the引出。例如，a woman is walking into our classroom.the woman is our teacher。
3.重复话题词或同义近义改写(repetition, synonym, or slight
variation of a word)
上下句的衔接也可以通过重复话题词实现，或者是对该话题词进行相关改写。例如，to foster healthy relationships between children in a classroom, teachers should provide time for games and fun activities.having healthy relationships with their peers helps children gain confidence useful in other parts of their lives.(重复话题词)
before choosing a public or private school for their children,parents should take into account the cost.the price of a private school is usually much higher than that of a public school.(话题词同义改写)
4.过渡性词和词组(transitional phrases/transitional adverbs)
上面讲到的三种句间关系属于隐性关系。隐性关系通过上下句的语义关系体现。现在，我们要讲的是句子间的显性关系，即通过明显的逻辑连词或副词来体现句间关系。这些显性关系词包括以下类别。
4.1 时间关系
then, next, later, finally, etc。
4.2 因果关系
therefore, consequently, as a result, etc。
4.3 转折关系
however, but, yet, nevertheless, on the other hand, etc。
4.4 解释关系
that is, in other words, etc。
4.5 举例关系
for instance, for example
例如，peers and older siblings have a major influence on how school children behave.for instance, young children often repeat bad words they hear from their friends or brothers and sisters。

刘老师：顾名思义，它就是把整个长句变短，提取其中的一些关键信息能力，包括逻辑和语义这两块。在托福考试里面这个题算比较“友好”的，其它题型比如细节题有很多种用法，简化题永远只有一种。没上过课的人很可能就会把它的题目读完，但其实这个题目根本就不用读，它都是统一的问法。它问的就是以下那句可以最佳传达我们阴影部分的意思，也就是提取阴影句的一个关键信息。
举个例子，比如说津乐汇在打折，什么only在打折、什么布衣在打折等一系列的，我要去购物，在这里各品牌打折其实就是一个次要问题，学生就会觉得我就是冲着其中一个品牌打折去的，其实这是你的主观想法，在英文里你需要sample来说谁在打折，所以在简化的时候这部分信息就可以被省掉。
小编：句子简化题在所有托福阅读题型中比例占多少?
刘老师：比例的话现在的每篇肯定都会有一道，也就是3道题，这个题能占到1分，比例还是比较大的，不像词汇题2~3个才占1分。
小编：句子简化题属于什么难度?
刘老师：这个的难度完全取决于你对句子的理解怎么样，阅读20分以下的同学做起来可能比较吃力，我也经常见到25、27分的同学面对这种句子还是有问题，在做题的时候对句子的结构把握可能还会存在一定问题。主要看你语法这块句型掌握的怎么样，知道谁是次要谁是关键，所以难度根据你对语法句型的掌握可大可小。如果你对句子感觉比较好，包括我教的很多学生上完课还会坚持做10~15句的长句分析，这样长期下去肯定一眼看到长难句就很敏感。
小编：句子简化题的正确解题步骤是怎样的呢?
刘老师：第一步可以先去找句子的逻辑，因为逻辑就很像人体的脊椎一样，负责把整个人串起来，句子也一样。任何句子都会有一个大的框架，比如表示转折的but，but前面一部分but后面一部分，大句就是一个转折，然后在转折句之下就会有它的语义。一个句子就是从逻辑和语义去构建的，所以解题的第一步一定是先找逻辑。还有一个原因就是在这个2~3行甚至是4行的英文句子里，逻辑算是比较突出的，因为表逻辑这类的词but、however、eventhough等你不可能不认识，可能whereas这样的词不认识，但大多数还是没问题的，这些都有助于你把这道题的难度降低。

第二步在看完逻辑之后至少可以帮你排除掉1~2个选项，剩下的2个就会有一个很接近，可能会和原句超级像，但这种一般都是错的，它是用来迷惑你的嘛，这种时候就需要结合你自己对句子框架的理解，比如都是转折关系，就需要你去匹配转折前后的语义是否一一匹配。具体做的时候需要核对信息，一般错误选项里会去干扰你，正确选项可能会调整语序，但它的逻辑是对的。我们可以举一例：
[句子简化题~实例分析]
The extreme seriousness of desertification results from the vast areas of land and the tremendous numbers of people affected, as well as from the great difficulty of reversing or even slowing the process.Q：Which of the sentences below best expresses the essential information in the highlighted sentence in the passage? Incorrect choices change the meaning in important ways or leave out essential information.A：Desertification is a significant problem because it is so hard to reverse and affects large areas of land and great numbers of people.B：Slowing down the process of desertification is difficult because of population growth that has spread over large areas of land.C：The spread of deserts is considered a very serious problem that can be solved only if large numbers of people in various countries are involved in the effort.D ：Desertification is extremely hard to reverse unless the population is reduced in the vast areas affected.像这个句子可能很多学生都会有问题，它句子一长可能都会觉得这是一个复合句或并列句，但是我们判断一个句子到底是什么句型是根据动词判断，这个句子只有一个动词是result from，它表示原因，因果关系，再往下面就没有动词了。只有一个as well as，它是一个并列的关系，在遇见并列的时候我们要先去看的是后面，因为前面很可能有各种限定修饰给你隔开，后面是个from短语那前面一定是有from短语的。两个from并列，所以原因有2个，也就是这句话最主要的逻辑就是因果，然后看选项里面谁有因果。
第一个、第二个有，第三第四都没有，第三还有个极端词only if，而原文中没有极端词我一定不要选它，原文中没有的逻辑新出现了往往就是错的。答案只能在前2个，这样就排除掉2个选项。下面就是你要细读这句子的框架去核对，刚才分析出来有2个原因，所以2个原因都要说，此外前面有个结论，沙漠化很严重原因有2个，一个是大量人口一个是扭转难度大，那我们一一核对就可以。A是说沙漠化是个大问题，原文说很严重，意思变化不大，原因在于它很难扭转，很难扭转是第二原因里的，但这里是并列的，无所谓先说谁，除天道教育

非是那种先有第一个后有第二个的原因说法，所以答案就是它。如果你不确定还可以看B选项，看错在哪里，它说减缓沙漠化进程很难，slowing down在哪里出现，在第二原因里出现，等于说把原因放到结论的位置了，而且它后面有because of，把并列的2个原因放成因果了。
如果没有逻辑呢，其实考试中会遇到很多没有逻辑的，或逻辑比较乱的，这种学生往往会问题比较大的。这个时候我们应该根据句子的语义去判断，就要去看大的句子结构，如果是简单句我们直接看主系表;如果是复合句那就要以主句为主，除非是I believe that..这样的，主句是I believe就可以不被保留，因为它没有实际太大的意义，所以这时候要以从句为主。
小编：句子简化题中常考的逻辑关系有哪些?
刘老师：常考的有转折、因果、比较、条件，早些时候还有一些否定的，但否定主要是结合语义的，所以我们在讲的时候不再归到简化句子里面去。还有就是表转折的but、however完全可以在选项里被eventhough、although代替。
小编：也就是说其实句子简化题大家是能保证100%正确率的。
刘老师：是的，当然可以，它有3个，而且3个里面一定至少有一个是有逻辑的。
小编：老师在教天道的学员们时，大家常犯的错误都有哪些?如何克服?
刘老师：通常就是单词积累不够，当然这不算错误，可能会被一些错误选项迷惑影响，误以为我在简化地时候就是100%地重现信息，其实不是这样的，有一些细节完全可以被去掉比如such as或for example。还有就是在核对信息的时候，学生往往看到一种逻辑就很激动，比如but只有一个选项有就特别激动地去选了，根本不去思考对不对。大家在私底下做题的时候不太去分析错误选项，下次遇见的时候可能还会错，有时候不清楚正确选项，但大家可以用排除法去做。
