一次，仪山禅师洗澡。

水太热了点，仪山让弟子打来冷水，到进澡盆。

听师傅说，水的温度已经刚好，看见桶里还剩有冷水，做弟子的随手到掉了。正在澡盆里的师傅眼看弟子到掉剩水，不禁语重心长地说：“世界上的任何东西，不管是大是小，是多是少，是贵是贱，都各有各的用处，不要随便就浪费了。你刚才随手到掉的剩水，不就可以用来浇灌花草树木吗？这样水得其用，花草树木也眉开眼笑，一举两得，又何乐而不为呢？”
